Podcast and Host Introductions

00:00:50
Speaker
Hello and welcome to Eberron Renewed, a D&D 5th edition actual play podcast set in the Eberron campaign setting. I'm your dungeon master, Eric. And I'm Philip. I'm Jeff. And we are sadly without Randy. Once again, he is feeling under the weather and it is the week of Thanksgiving. And so our schedules are understandably tight. And so we apologize for that. Booyah will be incognito and show up if needed.
00:01:16
Speaker
under my control. We also apologize for any coughing that I do into the mic as once again our schedules are really tight so we couldn't wait for my voice to come all the way back. And I just apologize for something I'm sure to do at some point. I apologize for the fact that we are starting recording shortly before 8 p.m. so it's gonna get as silly as last week's reviewed episode.

Recap of Previous Episode

00:01:36
Speaker
How did the Critical Role people do this every week?
00:01:39
Speaker
I'm already too tired to play. I mean I'm convinced there's boos in their cups. Well that's also in LA time so it's not quite as late as when we watch it. It's seven p.m. LA time. Very start at seven. They're not concurrent. The time sounds are progressive.
00:01:58
Speaker
Anyway, so yeah, gentlemen, what happened last time? Go for it, Jeff. Okay, there's good news and bad news. There's good news and really awful news. We started the fight with Lucan and we fought with Lucan and in the course of it, Paolo was killed.
00:02:19
Speaker
and but we did manage to kill Lucan and he is gone forever and the episode ended with us watching Lucan fade down the creek and not having even begun to deal with the fact that Paolo was dead so look out for a real good fun episode uh yeah this time

Post-Battle Reflections

00:02:41
Speaker
OK, so as soon as exactly where the last episode ended, once Lucan's body is dissolved and going down the creek that you all laid him in, Booyah turns and just begins walking back towards the ship. So he just takes off. So what are you all going to do?
00:03:07
Speaker
Barak stands up. He leaves Erebus sticking in the ground and walks back to the end. Okay. After a minute, Erebus will just disappear. Right. I think Dex
00:03:24
Speaker
is going to, tell me where, did you follow Barrick? No, Dracure is still, I actually think Dracure is dragging all of Lucan's clothes out and sifting through them. Okay. Dex is going to actually go to Dracure and while this conversation is going on, I'm going to look and see if anything shiny is at the bottom of the creek and also root through the clothes. Just because the clothes happened to be there, I actually want to talk to Dracure.
00:03:53
Speaker
Okay. Um, so, um, you said that, like, Lucan's flesh all dissolved. Dracure would like to keep his skull. Okay. Of course he would. I'd make a mug out of it. Gross. His debts would like to judge Dracure's choices.
00:04:15
Speaker
So, um, real quick, just to address this, um, jerk here, uh, you it, um, it's simple clothing that Lucan was wearing, um, a bit fancy, but, um, nothing particularly valuable, a couple of bobbles, necklace, a ring, um, and no weapons. Nothing magical at all.
00:04:47
Speaker
Before I can detect. You can detect. Eric forgot that I was also looking through things. He will keep the ring in the event that it has some kind of signet on it or anything like that. That is smart. And I guess something on him would also probably be Drow, General Drow history. Will you hand me it? Possibly, yeah. Which would be of interest? Yeah.
00:05:13
Speaker
OK, you trick here looking at the ring, it has some fine markings on it. You would guess in the proper channels and decks. You also kind of help inform this through the proper channels. This ring would probably be worth about 750 gold pieces just given the material and how old it is.

Dealing with Grief and Loss

00:05:37
Speaker
um, probably to a collector, it would be worth quite a bit of money. Um, and you also find in a small, uh, bag on Lukens, what was Lukens belt, um, a potion of Supreme healing. All right. Oh,
00:05:59
Speaker
Nothing. Okay. Let's get to what the people came to hear. Uh, so, uh, barracks headed back to the tavern deck. Strick here at the river. Hey man. Uh, listen, uh, I'm, I'm, I'm assuming how, how evident is it that Barrick and Paulo are together? Is that Jeff asking?
00:06:25
Speaker
Does Jeff asking Philip here would actually even need to say, Hey, you know that I think it's probably fairly evident. Okay. Uh, then in that case, he leads with, uh, man, we just got him back. We just got back the barrack that before all the terrible things happened, he looked hopeful again. What?
00:06:57
Speaker
What are we going to how? I know this is not your, um, your forte. This is not exactly your Bailey wick, but we are going to have to work together to bring him through this in a functional way. This, I don't know if in his head, this is worse or better than being pulled back from the lure, but.
00:07:22
Speaker
It ain't good. And I mean, I'm also, I'm gonna have to work through my own loss to make sure that we, cause she was part of the crew. I don't know where you stand on that, but I'm gonna set mine aside and try to do what I can for Barrick. I need you on board with that for me. There's this sort of pop as the skull comes free. You'll know him much better than I do.
00:07:52
Speaker
Sure. What do you do on the surface for this? I'll be real honest. This is a case that I've never had to deal with before. Uh, Eric is an emotionally complicated person. Uh, I think it is complicated man. No one understands. Nope.
00:08:23
Speaker
Uh, I think it's going to have to be a play by ear thing, follow his lead thing. But what we can't do is let him start dwelling in the darkness again, the metaphorical whatnot, your kind of darkness. Um, we can't let him start falling back into where he was basically the second time you saw him when he was at his worst. Hmm.
00:08:56
Speaker
Apparently, and I don't know why I say apparently, because it's not like I'm informed by other things. The main problem the first time was that I wasn't interested in talking to him about his feelings and experiences. And so we found companionship at the bottom of a bottle. So I'm going to give that a shot this time a little bit.
00:09:16
Speaker
drinking no no not drinking I'm not gonna try drinking I'm gonna try to keep him from seeking out them that self medication as an alternative to so it's a good time to point out that the body of the woman is in a bar that you do make a good point a bar in which he has his own glass
00:09:40
Speaker
Well, I don't need to stand by this Creek anymore. Um, as this conversation is wrapping up, uh, cut to Barrett, you are reaching the outskirts of miss Marsh. You see a lot more commotion than what was present when you all initially arrived in town.
00:09:59
Speaker
Oh, good. You see a a small crowd has begun to gather in the street in front of the Red Wolf Inn. Perfect. As Gregor is standing out in front of the door and you see him gesticulating wildly. And his voice is loud enough to where you can hear that he is speaking verbosely, but can't make out the words. But

Attempted Resurrection and Its Consequences

00:10:23
Speaker
you occasionally hear a from the crowd and things like that. So Berwick makes straight for the door of the inn.
00:10:29
Speaker
Once you get close enough, Gregor points, it's like, see, I told you they were back. It's Berwick. And everybody turns and sees you and you see at the front of the crowd a very young Julian and Farah look at you wide eyed. And yeah, it's just kind of commotion. I make directly for the door of the end.
00:10:54
Speaker
You enter and you see two figures already in the end. Albin and Jacob are in the end looking around and Albin's looking around the bar, looking at damage and Jacob's kind of kneeled over Paolo's body. Crass is still there.
00:11:15
Speaker
Crass went with you all down to the river. Oh no, you told me to stay. I left Crass with the body. So yeah, Crass is in there as well. Okay. And he's quietly explaining what happened. Barrick walks over, he kneels down, he gathers up the body, he picks it up, he walks back out of the end. Barrick. And Jacob kind of stands up and looks at you. Do you? I do not respond.
00:11:38
Speaker
Okay. So you exit back through the bar and you hear your name being called by multiple figures in the crowd, people trying to speak to you. I do not respond. I walked down the street towards Graham's house. Okay.
00:11:54
Speaker
I like to think I would have made it to the point where at least I could see him walking down the street. No, I can't talk to him. I haven't caught up to him. Yeah. But I see him take the left instead of a right or what have you. Yeah. And you also see everything that I just described. Right. Once I get up there is here with decks. Yes. Okay. Um, I guess Rickard is with you guys too.
00:12:17
Speaker
We didn't explain. I didn't really record. We, last time I recall was record at the bar, but Crass is the one we gave instructions to. We gave Rickard the agency to follow each day. But will you tell us what Rickard did? Rickard went back to the ship with Booyah. Booyah seemed like he needed somebody to talk to. Rickard's thinking about setting down roots and mist marching, getting the heck out of this situation. Um, I think
00:12:50
Speaker
think that
00:12:53
Speaker
despite what he just said, seeing... Dex has the wherewithal to realize where he is probably heading with this body, right? He knows where Graham's house is. He still knows who Barrick is. Yeah, I mean, it would not be difficult to follow him if that's your aim. No, my thought is if you were to roll inside to see if I would get this, if he's going to Graham's, despite everything he just said, Dex is gonna give him a moment with the former speaker of the flame.
00:13:23
Speaker
before he barges in. Given the distance, by the time you get into Miss March proper, he's already going to be at the house. I mean, Main Street at Miss March is not that long. OK, so. So I guess I would go to the bar right this moment. As you and presumably your care begin to approach the bar, you see Jacob Albin and Krast exit out the door and stand behind Gregor and everybody.
00:13:53
Speaker
The scene that I described to Barrick as he entered town is no longer the case. Everybody's just kind of staring after Barrick silently. So do you knock? Do you tap with your foot? Yeah, I think that's probably what it has to be. Who is it? It's Barrick Rowan. Oh, hold on.
00:14:27
Speaker
Some heavy footfalls, Graham. She wears big boots. There's much there's much emotional weight to be a speaker of the blame. The door swings open and she regards you and sees. Oh, some speakers to go. Better come in. I do. She closes the door behind you and
00:14:58
Speaker
Would you have anything to drink? Can you do anything? Give me a moment and she walks into her kitchen. Um.
00:15:19
Speaker
And she began, you hear ruffling, shuffling, things like that. Bear plays Paolo on the floor. Can I ask, cause I don't, I don't know. And I'm trying to picture like everybody else. Is there a physical change to Lady Omeran when this happened? Or is she, does she just look like a dead person right now? Like, um, I guess that's all flavor up to the DM.
00:15:50
Speaker
It's I mean, it's not like a zombie like green skin. Right. Sure. But she does not look the way that she looked. She looks kind of like how Beric looked after a couple of resurrections, like the sallow, sallow, a little bit decayed, but not. But she doesn't look ghoulish or anything. No.
00:16:18
Speaker
Graham stops for a moment. You hear the shuffling and the moving things around stop. And she comes back around the corner and looks at you with concerned eyes and says, I may be able to do something, but I need the locket from Jacob.
00:16:42
Speaker
Barrick leaves Paola there and goes back out and walks back towards the end, seeking Jacob. Dex sees him coming without the body and, you know, does the push the shoulders aside thing to be the first one to meet him as he gets to the group. Okay. And I just say,
00:17:11
Speaker
I need to find Jacob. What do you need? All right. He's right here standing right behind Greg. That's I go, Jacob, come here. Jacob, I need to lock it. What? I mean, Crams lock it. Okay. Um, and he grabs it and holds it out to you and Barak takes it turns on his heel, heads back to Crams.
00:17:37
Speaker
Um, I follow, but when we get to the door, I say, I'll be right here. Okay. What's trickier doing? There's a lot of people and it's funny. None of this is trickier's jam. Um, no, it's following Dex around.
00:18:07
Speaker
Okay. Let's not pretend that a lot of people were really itching to talk to Drake here though. No, no, I understand that with his skull hand. I mean, everybody was staring at Drake here. So, um, most of these people.
00:18:22
Speaker
Oh, all of these people have never seen a drought. Right. Um, regardless, whatever time of day it is, unless it's exactly noon, there's a shadow of Graham's house. You can stand in somewhere. Um, so, um, Barry, you reenter Graham's house and she's sitting on a small stool, um, looking over the body. Um, my hands are locked.
00:18:47
Speaker
She takes it and thanks you and opens it and regards the gem with the light emitting from it. Hand me that small chest on my desk.
00:19:03
Speaker
There it does. And she opens it and pulls out there's a small flask of what appears to be some kind of oil that she moves to cover Palos forehead in. And she also covers the sword wound in her chest. She begins
00:19:29
Speaker
muttering words in a language that you don't understand and some incantation that you never learned. She takes the locket in her left hand, open palmed, and then as she closes her hand, you hear cracking
00:19:57
Speaker
And as she reopens it, you see the light that was once contained in the gym float in front of her as she begins tracing her fingers in and out, writing some ancient script. Give me a perception check real quick as you sit there watching her. Natural one.
00:20:24
Speaker
So after you kneel there as she continues to manipulate the light of the silver flame floating in front of her for an hour,
00:20:40
Speaker
And you hear her voice getting more raspy as this amount of talking and activity is not something she's been accustomed to for the past few decades. And finally,
00:20:58
Speaker
she makes one last gesture and kind of collapses a bit, doesn't fall on the ground or anything. And the light shoots into Paolo's mouth and up her nostrils. And it seems like it goes in her. And you see the light emitting through her skin as it goes down her body into her chest. You see the sword wound close. And then
00:21:26
Speaker
Almost like it just stops abruptly. And then you see the light shoot back up and go back up her throat and come out of her mouth and nostrils. Give me another perception check. I should have come in.
00:21:51
Speaker
17 You you would swear on anything that as the light came out of palos mouth you heard a
00:22:11
Speaker
Her body has been restored to the way that she looked in life before the spell was cast on her and before you ended her suffering. But she is still she is not awoken. She's not breathing. What happened? Hi. I don't know. I mean.
00:22:37
Speaker
I don't and I've never seen anything like that before. This is this is a spell designed to raise the dead and she's not been dead long enough for it to not be effective.
00:22:57
Speaker
And Graham opens a small notebook that was also in the chest and begins flipping through it and begins silently reading to herself some pages, but she's internally studying what she may have done wrong.
00:23:27
Speaker
I don't have any idea what to do here.

Journey Plans to Flame Keep

00:23:34
Speaker
I think Eric, for the moment, waits. See if Graham can figure it out because he doesn't know how to cast this spell, so. He doesn't know what sort of thing can go wrong with it. I.
00:23:53
Speaker
I performed the incantation correctly. I performed the gestures.
00:24:01
Speaker
a piece of the light of the silver flame. And it's at this point that you notice when, as she grabbed the book and obviously needed both her hands free, you see the casing of the locket is bent and the gem has been cracked and splintered and is in a thousand pieces on the ground. It should have, the light of the silver flame is what
00:24:30
Speaker
drives, it should have worked. I failed. I... What can cause it to fail? Well, it seemed as though the light was rejected.
00:24:54
Speaker
It seems as though the light went in, restored her body to its natural state as a living, breathing creature. But when it came time for her soul to reenter her body, it didn't. I could prevent that.
00:25:20
Speaker
I am reluctant to say nothing because obviously something has, but I have brought back beings from every ailment during the war. It is common for people to still be under the effects of something that may have killed them if they were cursed or some kind of disease. It's totally expectant that that may carry over, but
00:25:51
Speaker
They always come back.
00:26:07
Speaker
She she wasn't. I noticed the chest wound, she wasn't missing any internal organs. She no, she was she was slain by a spell that briefly reanimated her body. As long as the initial point of death was less than a fortnight, then it should have still worked. It hasn't been an hour. Well, it's been an hour, but
00:26:42
Speaker
I know. Did Dex see the lights from through a window or something?
00:26:53
Speaker
Give me a perception check. Yeah, sure. I mean, I expect it to happen. Twenty seven. OK, so yeah, you were you found just that point where the curtains in the window were parted just enough to where you could focus in. And you you were able to to see in that case, as soon as the lights quit, Dex started counting seconds. Something happened. Now it's quiet. And I think it may have been enough time now that Dex is ready to knock on the door. OK, so.
00:27:22
Speaker
Do you mind, Beric? Of course. One moment.
00:27:32
Speaker
And Dex has played this game before, so he walks in. No, I'm just kidding. No, Graham is there in a couple seconds. Like, she moves in. She just opens the door enough for her face and says, oh, Dex. Hey, Graham. It may be a sensitive time. What can I do for you? I'm here to see Beric. I'm here to see if whatever he needed done with Paolo worked or not, and if not,
00:28:01
Speaker
I need to be in the room now. Oh, oh, okay. Um, and she says, just one moment. Um, Beric, uh, Dex is asking to come in is. Char. And Graham looks at you and opens the door and gestures are free to enter. So I do. What does Drake here do? Drake here remains outside. Okay.
00:28:31
Speaker
And I survey the room and I see a palos on a, on a what? On a, on the floor. She's on the floor. Okay. Palos on the floor. Clearly not moving, but I assume I also noticed that she looks better than she did. Even though I didn't see a whole lot of her in her second state, but all right. What, um,
00:28:56
Speaker
I mean, I assume whatever was tried here was pretty heavy duty stuff. Do we have an alternative now? Is there a next step for this? What can we do to find out what happened? Who can we ask? Who can we commune with? What can we do to find out what happened?
00:29:24
Speaker
Um, I, there are scholars of the flame that might know I, the, the speaker may be able to commune with the flame itself, but short of that, I don't know of any, unless it was the work of the keeper, I, I don't know.
00:29:54
Speaker
Like I said, this has never happened before. Unless they were missing a heart or a head, they always came back. Unless I did something wrong. Okay, does Barak know the spell speak with dead exists? Um,
00:30:25
Speaker
Let me answer that question. I mean, I can take this one if you need me to, Eric. I'm afraid he doesn't. No, I'm sorry.
00:30:56
Speaker
I'll say, yeah, you've you've heard talk of this spell. I'm going to say I went to seminary. I know some clerics can communicate with souls on the other side. Can we is that something we can do to to find out what's happened?
00:31:25
Speaker
It's something that it is something that can be done, but it's a very specific type of cleric that performs that spell. It's
00:31:41
Speaker
It's not within my purview. I'm a student of life. I'm a student of curing and nourishing, not that of, it's more of a, for people that seek knowledge and use that to better the world, they obviously would seek to do that.
00:32:08
Speaker
I had always relied on speaking to them once they were alive. So she's gone. There is no magic that I possess that can bring her back, it seems.
00:32:40
Speaker
You begin to hear a faint whistle in the background as Graham gets up and begins walking back to the kitchen. Hey, listen, man. First, I'm sorry. Second, I'm willing to go where you need to go or try what you need to try to see if we can reverse this.
00:33:10
Speaker
But if you don't want to take that route, then let's take her back to the boat, give her the respect that she deserves and see what's next for us. I don't, I don't know what else to do. I don't know what, I don't know what could be doing this. I don't know what.
00:33:45
Speaker
Graham says as soon as she can't do, I don't know who the next person to ask is. I don't know. I wish this was anything that I'm even partly versed in that I could give an idea or some comfort or a suggestion.
00:34:15
Speaker
But unfortunately, this has never been anything inside of my realm of, uh, interest. I know nothing. As you all speak, Graham silently comes and on in tables next to each of you sets down a cup of tea with a saucer. And then she exits the room into an adjoining room to the general space.
00:34:47
Speaker
She destroyed that gem for nothing. It was worth it. It was worth the chance. I'm sure she feels that way and I'm sure Jacob will too. We needed it.
00:35:28
Speaker
We'll figure something out. I mean, that's not something needs dwelling on right this second. Do you want a minute? She's gone. I
00:36:09
Speaker
She's gonna have to tell Orianna Do you Feel like you need to tell Orianna I'd be happy to do it if you don't I mean not happy you understand
00:36:39
Speaker
She and I aren't close, but if you're not ready to do that sort of talking, I don't think you need to put yourself through it. Graham reenters the room and grabs the small chest that she had been using and puts everything back into it and then exits into the side room with the chest, carries it out.
00:37:25
Speaker
Think Dex at this point says to Beric, I'm going to give you a minute. I'll be right outside the door. Are we in an interior room?
00:37:45
Speaker
Is there a room, but like a foyer between, I didn't know what sort of digs grain was living in. Not, not those, not, not, not the kind with a foyer. Sorry. An entryway, a room between the room and the door. Okay. In that case, I say I'll be right outside the door. Just, uh,
00:38:09
Speaker
I mean, if you're, if you're ready now, we can walk out together. And if you want to, want to say something, do something, take care of something, we give you a little space to do that. And that's what Dex does. Unless Derek, Derek Stopsman is like, Derek doesn't stop it. Yeah. Um, Rick here looks up and you come out.
00:38:32
Speaker
Why is he taking the body into house? All right, I don't know what you know, ever at any point. Are you familiar with the silver flame?
00:38:45
Speaker
Uh, from, from Barrick. Okay. The woman that lives in that house is a former did to my understanding. While this conversation is happening, Barrick, probably the amount of time that has passed since Dex left the house, Graham exits the side room, um, and has a moderately sized carrying case next to her. And she walks past you and.
00:39:11
Speaker
As you say, the woman that lives here, the front door opens and Graham walks outside the house carrying a small bag and she shuts the door behind her. I do. I need to roll to see if I notice that. Well, no, I just described. I noticed it. I'm the one that told you. I say, hey, hang on a second. Hey, Graham. She stops and regards you. Yes, I feel so regarded.
00:39:41
Speaker
What, what you doing? She, she still, she regards you, but it's still, it's still walking. Um, I am many things and I've been many things in this life, but a bad cleric is not one of them. I am going down to the train station and I'm going to go figure out what is going on. Uh, don't get me wrong. I appreciate your gumption. Uh, but let me ask you this.
00:40:08
Speaker
At this point, you're kind of having to like not chase after her. There's no way I'm struggling to keep up with Graham. But you're having to fully break away from your conversation with Drakir to like she is not. All right. I'd say hang on. The information you seek is pending. And I. Wait, Barry, do you just.
00:40:30
Speaker
Uh, so I think Verik has, has just been, it's been background noise that she's been moving around the house. And then here's the door close and looks up. And I think it's this sort of looking between the body and the door and the body and the door and the body.
00:41:01
Speaker
I'm good for nothing. That's your one new metal reference for this episode. That's the one new metal reference I have. And that's Crazy Town is new metal. Sorry, what happened?
00:41:16
Speaker
I think he stays put. Okay. I just wanted to. As you were, as I was running alongside Graham, getting my job and, um, Hey, all right. All right. I appreciate, I appreciate your thirst for knowledge. Uh, fortunately we should never give up despite advanced years. Now, my question is, is this the sort of thing that you think I should tell Barrick? Hey, we can't, you know,
00:41:47
Speaker
Don't, let's not have the same sort of funeral we've had for the last few with this one. Do we need to preserve this body? Do you think we can solve this? She finally stops and turns full face to you and looks you in the eye and says, Dex, for years before you arrived in this town, I have lived here in peace and quiet.
00:42:15
Speaker
with no intention of seeing anybody from the outside world ever again. I am leaving this town and going back to a place that I was more than happy to leave to seek out the knowledge that I need. I do not know if they will have an answer. If they do, there might be hope for that young woman currently in my home.
00:42:39
Speaker
But after what I just experienced and the look that I saw in that young man's eye who is still in my home, I am not interested in giving any form of hope until I have more knowledge. That's fair. How about this? Because I don't because Dex. Huh? Where is she going? I'm getting there.
00:43:06
Speaker
And she continues. Yeah, she's still walking. We're not near a train. I'm OK. I can keep up with her for a while. There's a conversation happening. I get it. I will assume she does not stop. Well, I told you I know. So I'm informing you. She has resumed her movement. All right. I trip her her movement of five feet per round. Yeah. No. So I say, OK, now.
00:43:33
Speaker
Graham played by Maggie Smith. I was thinking of Angela Lansbury. Oh, okay. Alright, then tell me this.
00:43:46
Speaker
How long do we have with her that something could be possible? Or alternatively, is there something we can do to prolong that window? A corpse put in the presence of the flame itself could be brought back regardless of age. So that's a question that I do not have an answer for. But what I am capable of doing in my current state, we have less than a fortnight.
00:44:16
Speaker
Alright.
00:44:20
Speaker
Okay. Uh, Graham, thank you for what you tried. I'm sorry that this has been an off-putting experience for you. We're not really feeling great about it either.

Logistics of the Journey

00:44:30
Speaker
Um, I, you all are now passing the, the crowd that had begun to disperse in front of the red wolf and accept their dispersion stopped in his tracks as they are all just slowly following Graham's movement. Yeah.
00:44:48
Speaker
She has a suitcase and people are kind of confused. I say, we're fine. Everything's fine. Graham's going on a trip. Everything is definitely not fine. I don't know why you're saying that everything's fine because nothing is fine. I'm saying it because I'm a practiced liar now. What's the crap? Just reacts to that exchange. They didn't necessarily hear me say that to her. I lowered my voice. What?
00:45:19
Speaker
All right, Graham, listen. How can, how can we contact you? How can you contact us? This is the sort of thing that, uh, if you say, you know something, we will, we got a flying boat. We'll post haste to wherever you are. Where are you going anyway? I'm going to flame keep. All right. I kind of speak with my successor. Wow.
00:45:46
Speaker
I mean, I guess that's just the sort of way you can throw around when you're the former speaker of the plane. Huh? Yes. Congratulations. Here. Okay. Come down, Graham. Uh, I don't know what you're congratulating us for. Our friend is dead on your floor. High means to life. That's right. I had any who I was in Fiddler. I know that. Well, this is going nowhere. Uh, all right. Well, again,
00:46:17
Speaker
I assume the place that you are, there's going to be some magical means by which you can contact us. Do you need something? If you, if you crack this egg, we want to, we want to get our flying boat to play and come back to mismatch as quickly as possible. I intend to arrive, gain my audience with the speaker, speak, and then come home.
00:46:45
Speaker
I have no idea. For the audio people, Phil is making wild hand gestures at this table that Jeff has not deciphered. The gesture I think he's making is what I was about to say. Have a little bit of faith. After the last arc, after your last field trip I should have faith.
00:47:09
Speaker
Graham, Graham, Graham, slow down, please, please, please. And then I, and then to emphasize that I turn around and I walked backwards in front of her to just make sure she's, I say, would you like a ride to the flame? Keep a pretty quick way to get there. Well,
00:47:36
Speaker
I suppose, although the last time that we spoke before you returned to my home, you left in quite a huff because the papers had some not so great things to say about you. Yeah. Oh, okay. Listen, your ability to get into Flame Keep is concerning.
00:48:02
Speaker
Am I mistaken? The flame keep is not in Breeland, is it? No. It's in Thrain. But are we wanted in Thrain? I mean, it's one of those things, like you, you all are wanted for a certain light treason. So some light treason. There's a certain level of extradition. Okay. Okay. Unless it were active war time, then we'll just fly over it. Slap a Fanny fall pack. Fanny fall pack.
00:48:34
Speaker
Put granny in a feather fall pack and it came out put a fanny fall pack You know what there's no coming back from it. You guys enjoy the rest of your show For the listeners he is actually carrying the gag far enough to have left the room Oh and he's back
00:49:01
Speaker
I mean, if you're offering me a ride, it'll save me the cost of a lightning rail ticket. So, yeah, sure. Yeah, it'll save you a lot of time. Why don't you come back to your house? I want to go now. Well, I mean, the train's not here. The boat's not here. The boat will get here more quickly. We go back to your home.
00:49:30
Speaker
Grab Drew Kieran-Barrack and Lady Omeran. Get on the boat. Sorry, the family out here, the boat is here. All we got to do is go back to your house, collect the other three. We'll all go to the boat together and we will skedaddle on to where you need to be. We'll save you time. We'll save you money. We'll get you back to your house more quickly.
00:49:55
Speaker
Alternatively, I will point you at the direction of the boat, go back and get my friends and we'll catch up with you. I don't know. I'm awfully fast. Yes, you are. And she kind of snickers and turns and like turns around to your side and reaches up and grabs you by the tricep and lead the way.
00:50:23
Speaker
to back to her home. All right. We about face. We start. We go back to the house. I say, all right, here, here's the deal. I'm going to tell you everything that's happening on the boat, on the way to rain. You do notice on the walk back, the crowd has properly dispersed. Now people are going back to their homes, that kind of thing. Good.
00:50:53
Speaker
I say, hey buddy, it's great to see all y'all again. Why am I going to Thrain? I bet you don't have to go anywhere. I just offered to give her a ride to Thrain because it might save Lady Omerin's life.
00:51:09
Speaker
once I tell him that I have a strong feeling, is going to be willing to take the trip with us. Booyah goes where we ask because he is just down for anything. I assume once we say it might bring Lady Oren back to life, everyone else on the boat's gonna be down for it. So, that's why we're going to three.
00:51:36
Speaker
I see if you would like to join us. We'd love to still have you the goal here. That's in my mind is Apparently she just wants a conversation an audience with the okay, so the speaker I'm sure he's told you about the speaker of the flame. I could explain this better than you go. Yeah
00:51:54
Speaker
You could, you absolutely could. But you're not me and I love to talk. My name is Graham. Who are you? I'm Drakir Dvren. Out of deference to the elderly, Drakir very, very slowly tucks the skull under his, under his clothes. He's got a weird bulge. You know, I say, would you mind while you explain to him if I go and explain to Eric what we're about to do?
00:52:22
Speaker
Anyone. So you see, I came from a place. Hey, did you notice her leave? Yes. You want to know where she's going?
00:52:46
Speaker
Sure. She's going to the flame. Keep it's just flame. Keep it. It's not the flame. Keep it's just flame. Keep, you know, it's the name of the city. It says something about bear growing that in the midst, in the midst of his misery, he'll take a moment to correct his best friend in the world.
00:53:16
Speaker
Hey, Barrett, get on the boat. Barrett, she, she, she was going to flame keep to have audience with the speaker to figure out what this is and why her thing didn't work and what we can do to make it work. And I offered her a ride. Would you like to get on the boat with us and make that trip?
00:53:43
Speaker
You were looking for a next step and I can't imagine a better place to look for one. What about dollar? That was my thing. Uh, what are we talking about time wise? Um, I mean, it's, it's going to take a few days to get to flame keep. Is it that far? Yeah. Okay.
00:54:14
Speaker
Yeah, that sucks. The speaker would be potentially immensely helpful in what we're trying to do. If the conflagration and the flame are the same thing. These gems we've been carrying need to be infused with the power of the flame.
00:54:45
Speaker
What if... Okay, I would know this. How long would the trip be from... How long is the trip from Miss Marsh to Sharn by lightning rail? Rote. By lightning rail? We're not going to Sharn, it's in Rote. Oh, sorry, Rote. What do we say? I thought like a day.
00:55:14
Speaker
I think when, when we were going from new car to Sean, it was three days. So let's say a day and a half to get from Ms. Marsha Roak. Oh, I think we're talking, are we not talking on the ship anymore? I'm saying you said like, I'm saying here's, here's, here's my, here's my proposal. I just wanted to know, cause I would know that timeline if it made sense. What if we take lady Oren to the ship?
00:55:45
Speaker
interest, her care, as well as the gyms to Krast and Orianna and Charlie and Gerald. You major care Booyah, jump on a train and get to ROAT and solve that problem. We can stay in communication with the boat, know what's going on.
00:56:15
Speaker
They can get our gyms infused. We can potentially save a life and you and me and trickier and Booyock get down to business. I know you don't want to leave lady Omeran's body to the whims of other people, but I can't imagine people who would take better care and try harder outside of our, that's out of you and me than them, especially Oriana, especially Charlie.
00:56:48
Speaker
Crass is there to keep everybody safe and we get our job done. It's a hard decision for you, I'm sure, but at the impasse that we're at, it's the best option that I can put on the table. I'm willing to listen to counters. We're unlikely to ever have the opportunity to speak to the speaker of the flame again, to the keeper again.
00:57:21
Speaker
This is the most powerful wielder of this power on the planet. And this is the power, if I understand right, this has something, the conflagration is in some part a part of the silver flame.
00:57:54
Speaker
her knowledge the flame gives her the power the flame gives her the other option I guess would be we go to flame keep let record and crashed or trigger ragtag bunch of former citadel members to try to free commander bala
00:58:27
Speaker
You could go to Flame Keep, it means you're Kieran Booyock, go wreck shopping, row it. I... Two things need to happen and there's six people to do them. Oi. Oh, and Boran is also around.
00:58:58
Speaker
Yeah, I feel like that deals with the wanted problem. Yeah, that would have a lot to do with it. Oh yeah, once we're out of Breeland with the King of Breeland by our side, we have a bit of a pass to places. Hopefully. We got a 50-50 shot.
00:59:20
Speaker
That bass is going to come with a lot of questions though of, Hey, why are you here? I do. I do need to clarify something now, but based on what I heard you say, um, I don't know that we are going to have the opportunity to speak with the speaker or keeper. I apologize. I've been saying speaker. It's actually keeper. All right. With the speak speaker speaker. I'm now acknowledging my fault. Okay. Here on out, it will be keeper of the flame.
00:59:49
Speaker
Well good, that'll go great for me. I don't remember that. Listen, I can't promise that we are going to get a chance to speak with or even see or be in the same room as the Keeper. Graham gets to do that because of who she is. I just wanted to make sure that that was clear, that I'm not telling you we're going to have a conversation with her as you decide where you're going next.
01:00:17
Speaker
Cause it is also important to remember that Crass and Rickard and Cornell and Gerald are not under our employee and get to decide where they're going to go and what they're going to do as much as you or I do. Yeah. And that wildcard half brother of yours could just run away, right? He might not even be out there.

Emotional Tensions and Group Dynamics

01:00:40
Speaker
I left him with Graham.
01:00:51
Speaker
I don't know what to do. Uh, let's go back to the ship and see what everyone has to say. Yeah, fair. All right. Um, I, I started to talk to Drake here and then I started breaking deals with Graham. So I don't know if he's willing to go with it or not, but we'll find out. And we walk out the door. Oh, we take her. Yes.
01:01:18
Speaker
I assume you were wanting to carry her. I hold the door. So then it was time for me to give up my, um, I don't want to say power cause that seems a little grabby, but my ability to this six year old that seemingly been able to speak to the flame instead of me, my power diminished. And so you see, so then I came to missed Marsh and set up in this little home. And now I intend to go back to all that.
01:01:48
Speaker
And we don't acknowledge Drakir and Graham. We- guys, who- Barrick just starts walking to the ship. And as we walk past, I go behind Graham where Drakir can see me in my mouth. I'm so sorry. And I go, we're gonna be on the ship. Graham notices you while walking, of course she does. I'm making jokes. Some- some people like them. I hear.
01:02:14
Speaker
So yeah, Graham begins following in barracks wake. I said, come on, Graham, you're gonna love this boat. Drake here. Since nobody else is gonna ask, I guess the DM will. I assume he'll come if he's coming. Drake here, do you wanna be part of this? We'll come hear what this is. Yeah, there actually are two decisions.
01:02:42
Speaker
Well, there's one decision with two options. Those are three options for you because you can't just go, come on, secure follows for the moment. Dex just because he needs to know what in the world is happening. Dex offers to carry Graham's back for her. I was a Dex takes Graham's back, but that's not how it would work at all. You all see as you're walking down the street, um,
01:03:03
Speaker
near the sheriff station, which is also near the lightning rail station. The skiff that you all have been using is parked and Krast is loading a couple things up into it. What are these couple of things? What has Krast purchased? Did he get studded leather armor from Trant? Because I tried for weeks.
01:03:28
Speaker
It's weird, he just gave it to me. No, it's foodstuffs. It's clearly like the typical Charlie shipment that he figured, well, I don't have anything to do right now, so I guess I'll take care of this. Thank God there are some responsible people on this boat or we would have died from starvation. Yeah, because eating has been such a thing for us so far. OK, so I mean, he's. Can we all get in one?
01:03:58
Speaker
Oh, we did bring both, didn't we? But presumably Booyah and Rickard had to take one back up, but they fit six each. I think you all were taking seven people. So that was the problem. So, all right. So with crass, Graham, me, trickier, Eric, the body of lady Omer and storage dense and I mean, the story dry goods implied. So, okay. I mean, then we're all in. Yeah.
01:04:27
Speaker
And we, and I crashed since he's right here. Crass regards the elderly woman. All right. Uh, grass. He did. He's speaking. He's silver flame, right? Yeah. So the record.
01:04:43
Speaker
Oh, Rickard's already gone. Oh, Rickard's gone. So, Kras might be about to pee his pants. Let's see what happens. I go, Kras, this is Graham. Ma'am. She's going to come with us. You might know her better as a speaker keeper. I did this to you. I accept no responsibility. It's my fault. You might know her better as a keeper Tagore. I remembered the Tagore.
01:05:13
Speaker
Krast was kind of finalizing like strapping stuff down and as you say that he stops and kind of glances over his shoulder back at her and then cinches up the rope and climbs into the skiff. She would like a ride to the flame keep and we're considered fine. She would like a ride to flame keep
01:05:38
Speaker
Hey, some cities have definite articles. This one doesn't. The Hague. The Woodlands. Las Vegas. Stop making Philip laugh. It hurts him. That was good. El Paso. El Paso. Las Cruces.
01:06:10
Speaker
So you say she wants a ride to flame keep. Yeah. Crass just shrugs and says, are we going back to the ship? Well, yeah. Okay.
01:06:25
Speaker
And he takes over the ill-defined mechanism that we've established that powers a skiff back up to borrowed time. It's happy thoughts, isn't it? Yes. It's believing, but you got to clap. So yeah, the skiff docks next to the other skiff that Booyah and Rickard brought up.
01:06:50
Speaker
in the cargo hold and Krast hops out and begins untying the ropes of the dried goods. Krast, get everyone on deck. We need to have a meeting. I'll go if you want to keep, I'll go get them. Either way.
01:07:16
Speaker
I go find Booyah and Rickard and I assume Charlie and Cassie and an Orianna family meeting on the deck. And I just kind of walk through the hall saying, Hey everybody, I go find Orianna. Fair enough. You don't need to do that. Go to the cockpit and use the new speaker system. You could just know it's linked to your speaking. Does it work now? I don't trust technology.
01:08:02
Speaker
It's fingerprint based. You have access. Username is admin. Password is password. You have to change it the first time you log in. One special character. So, everyone. I go find Orianna. Yeah. All right. Yeah. So everybody that you spoke to begins making their way to the deck. You find Orianna in the room that her and Paolo were sharing.
01:08:12
Speaker
I forgot that we had it.
01:08:32
Speaker
We should be we should be clear we didn't Where did we place lady Omeran's body? She's not just laying on the deck when people walk up there. No when Charlie and Cassian She in the hold where we were the moment in the hold where we flew into okay? Wait, I know something went wrong when we were down there What what do you mean what there was a fight
01:09:03
Speaker
I started a fight with a creature that I mistook as having some concept of honor as it turns out he was more or less a thug and
01:09:33
Speaker
and extremely confident that we couldn't kill him. In an effort to... In an effort to just cause harm on his way out. He killed Paolo. What? What? We're gonna get her back. What? What do you mean he...
01:10:05
Speaker
I don't know what the spell was that he used, but he used a spell that killed her for the life of her. We're going to get her back.
01:10:38
Speaker
Well, she struggles to find words
01:11:05
Speaker
And she looks up and locks eyes with you. Give me an insight roll. Eight. You just see a intensity in her gaze and
01:11:37
Speaker
without breaking her gaze on you. Where is she? She's in the hold. Orianna gets up and walks past you out of the room. Barrick falls her.
01:12:05
Speaker
I'm going to get back to the hold. Listen to me. This happened because of things that I did. We are going to get her back.
01:12:37
Speaker
Pretty sure that did this is dead. I need you to stay here so she won't be alone. I'll come back down in a minute. Oh, we need to have a talk on the deck about how we're going to get her back. Orianna just slowly approaches the body and
01:13:10
Speaker
She just stands there, staring at the body, silent. Barak walks back over to the skiff and reaches over the railing and takes out, from where it was stowed, Paola's sword.
01:13:37
Speaker
and walks back over and he just pushes it into Ori on his hands. You hold onto this, you give it back when we have her back. And then he heads up on deck. Once you're, give me a perception check as you head up to deck.
01:14:07
Speaker
What's your passive? What's your passive? 16. Once you're about 15 to 20 feet out of the hold, you begin to hear a very intense breakdown from within the hold. I stopped.
01:14:41
Speaker
I'm going to touch my sending stone. Dex, you know what the options are. Yeah. I kind of thought this might happen. I can take care of it. Yeah. I'll let you know who's going where you'd be, where you need to be. Um, very just goes back in. As soon as you get back in, um, Orianna turns her head looking at you out of her periphery and says, please get out.
01:15:14
Speaker
Barrick sits down on a box and doesn't get any closer and just sits down on a box. Says I've done a lot of things, a lot of stupid things since you met me. I think walking out of that door was one of the higher ones.
01:15:44
Speaker
So I'll be right here. We don't have to talk. Oriana. Composers just help for a moment and stares and stands stands up and stares directly at you. And says. What makes you think that anything about what's happening right now has anything to do with what you're doing?
01:16:16
Speaker
And she drops the sword on the ground and walks past you. What I mean. Is this a bad time to be alone?
01:16:53
Speaker
She meant more to you than I do. She was always there. I took her down there, talked her into it, asked her to come, and I started the fight that got her killed. That's why this is my fault.
01:17:22
Speaker
Your feeling. That's you. That's her. That's her death. That's my fault. It's not about who means more. I loved her. I love you.
01:17:48
Speaker
I understand that you're feeling an immense amount of guilt over what happened down there. And I don't know exactly what happened, but based on your account, your guilt may be justified. But you don't want to be alone right now. And that's fine. But I need to be.
01:18:17
Speaker
I need to mourn one of the people that I knew would look out for me no matter what, because she's gone. When you all found me, nobody was looking out for me. I had to look out for my siblings and they're gone.
01:18:48
Speaker
And now she's gone. And I'm sorry, but I don't want to have a conversation or listen to how anyone else is feeling right now. I just want to acknowledge the fact that the closest thing I will ever be able to call a sister is now gone.
01:19:19
Speaker
And I think I have the right to do that in the way that I need to. And she turns and walks out.
01:19:55
Speaker
Meanwhile, I think it's done by that point, actually, not me. Not me. When I go and say we need to have a meeting on deck, the first thing I asked Abou Yaw or Rickard, whomever I saw first, is if they've told Charlie, Cassie, and hopefully, I assume they didn't tell Orianna since we just found out that she didn't know, but if they had told Gerald, Charlie, or Cassie, so I didn't have to sell them.
01:20:24
Speaker
You find Rickard first and Rickard says on the ride back up, Booyad did say that there was... I'm trying to remember, Booyad never met Graham. No, no, sorry. Just said if Lady Omeran died. No. Okay, okay, sorry.
01:20:52
Speaker
On the ride back up to the boat, Booyah, one of the few things he said to me was that you all have dealt with death in the past and that it typically wasn't a permanent thing. And so

Setting Up Future Adventures

01:21:10
Speaker
there wasn't any reason to upset people if you all came back with Lady Omerin alive.
01:21:18
Speaker
You know, that fair dinkum for Booyah, actually. Okay, so everybody's assembled on the deck. Yep. I say, oh, I'm sorry. Not Booyah. Booyah won't come up. You, you approached Booyah's door. It had been locked and all the only response you heard was Booyah sleep. All right.
01:21:50
Speaker
And I say, well, then Booyah, we're going to have a vote. Do I get your proxy? Booyah sleep. Cool. Deck's walk. Back on deck. It sounds like Booyah's so callous. It's just Randy's sick. All right. Uh, first off.
01:22:14
Speaker
Um, Cassie and Charlie Gerald. I'm sorry to tell you guys that, uh, we were in a fight down there with a very powerful enemy and, uh, lady Omeran was killed. Uh, she's laying in state in the hole right now. Um, but here's the thing.
01:22:44
Speaker
And I know you probably have questions and we'll deal with them in a minute, but we need to make some decisions. Um, and Gerald, unfortunately we're kind of making one for you. I hope you understand by the time I get done talking to you, this woman is Graham. Graham is a former keeper of the flame and
01:23:13
Speaker
She's going to flame keep to see in a roundabout way. She's got a personal reason, but if there's a way we can bring lady Omer and back, this is at, uh, serendipitous purposes with our need to eventually get to flame keep, to infuse these stones we've been collecting with the essence of the flame.
01:23:42
Speaker
So Gerald, if you're willing, we would like to give her a ride to flame Keaton. Having said that, there's a friend and an ally wrongfully sentenced to death in row it right now. We don't have time for all of us to do, to take care of both things.
01:24:08
Speaker
So my proposal is that we make a decision. Some of us go to Flame Keep, do what we can to save Lady Omerun's life, and get this next step in our ultimate goal fulfilled. And some of us get on a train, go to Row It,
01:24:35
Speaker
and we free commander bala from her wrongful imprisonment and then at some point god willing pardon me silver flame willing there's lots i know sovereigns willing dark six willing traveler willing i know there's a lot of them tex would really dig the traveler
01:24:57
Speaker
Uh, when I was building decks, the travelers where I was thinking I was going to go until I realized that not really particularly religious people on Zarlona. So, which is a bold move in a world where gods demonstrably exist. Um, that's from another show. I don't know what it is, but yeah. Uh, any who, um, so I think we just all need to decide who's going where.
01:25:30
Speaker
Eric is not up here. My assumption is, I don't know. I'm not going to listen. He didn't tell me that. So I'm not going to speak for him. I don't know what he wants to do. Crashed interrupts and just says, I'll go to row at thank you. Crashed. We got one for row at here. Are you coming with us at all?
01:26:02
Speaker
My people are waiting on me to return with this orb. Our plans cannot be set in motion until we have it. He thinks of laughing maniacally after he says that and then decides, decides not to. The moment's not right. Tricure reads the room.
01:26:27
Speaker
Our vengeance cannot be exacted on you. You know what? Never mind. We cannot suffuse this surface with the doom that it... No, wait. Anyway. But... My half-brother will not want to leave the woman.
