Gypsy soul, I'm a rebel and rogue and I'm always on the run. With a fire inside, I ain't ever gonna die, I'm a locked and loaded gun. When the mads is striking, the gasoline lies, it's only just begun.
00:00:27
Speaker
One thing I learned is you can watch it all burn, but the flame ain't ever done.
Welcome and Guest Introduction

Some call me a renegade, the enemy Throw your hands if you feel the same Oh, living life at the end Just say what you wanna say, or walk away I stand tall when there's hell to pay Aim your power higher, we're the outlaws and outsiders
00:01:21
Speaker
Welcome ladies and gentlemen to another edition of Speedway Stories. I hope you guys like the ah intro for tonight. My guest actually made that and everything else. Let's bring him up. Morgan.
00:01:34
Speaker
Hello, hello. Good evening, evening, buddy. How are you? Good. Hey, what's up? pat Speaking of what's happening, them Pat? Hey, what's up, Pat?
00:01:47
Speaker
Mark and Pam, how are you guys doing? Yes. Guys, welcome to another edition of Speedway Stories with your host, Wally. I'm sure Johnny will be in here later on. He had some stuff to probably take care of and everything.
00:02:00
Speaker
But I want to welcome Morgan to the show and everything else.
Morgan's Journey in Motorsports
00:02:06
Speaker
MC Productions, Andy also is affiliated with Matt Motorsports. They deal with the monster trucks and pro-tuff trucks out in in Oklahoma. um I am honored to have this gentleman up here.
00:02:19
Speaker
We got some First for me and the first for him. And we also got some surprises for you guys here later on in the show tonight. Morgan, the floor is yours, sir.
00:02:31
Speaker
Thank you for the great introduction. You're welcome, man. I guess we'll start with how I got started. So two years ago, I had reached out to John Dardell with Matt Motorsports.
00:02:46
Speaker
He has done everything on the planet for me to give me the opportunity. to get a name for myself. I reached out to him. I was like, hey, do you need any help with anything with your show in Miami coming up?
00:02:59
Speaker
I know you got a lot on your plate. He was like, do you know how to make graphics? I said yes. I load up Canva and I start making graphics for him.
00:03:11
Speaker
I did not know what the hell a removed background was or anything like that. But and behold, I start whipping up graphics for him. So I come out to the show that year and I hang out with him in the pits. I'm getting like a behind the scenes look of everything, which that was pretty cool for me because I was sitting in the pits watching everything happen as opposed to being a fan in the crowd.
00:03:33
Speaker
That'd be awesome. Pit side for that experience? Pit And then so fast forward about six months later, come October, I'm like, hey, would you be interested in hiring me as like your full time graphic designer, video editor, things like that? We got the ball rolling with that.
00:03:53
Speaker
So I started my first official's full season last year doing video editing, graphic design, things like that. And my Emma rolls around last year. i come out and I'm helping set up and all that.
00:04:07
Speaker
I'm getting a behind the scenes look. I'm meeting people I've never got the luxury to meet before. Some of the nicest people I've ever met. And then we so we roll through, we do that show. And then I started doing graphics for Springfield and all of that.
00:04:27
Speaker
And then now this year we did Springfield, Missouri, the indoor show about two months ago. End of February, I started doing videography and stuff like that, getting my own footage, things like that alongside Danny Mass and Jen Bay, who does photography.
Collaborations and Industry Impact
00:04:45
Speaker
ah Some big names there in the game. is. it's kind of just turned into a whole thing now. I'm like his go-to guy when it comes to graphics and things like that. And, I mean, I'm working with some of the best people I've ever met in my life. So it's pretty great.
00:05:02
Speaker
Well, now you now, too, like we were talking backstage, man you're part of one of the biggest shows in the country. You're part of history now that you really get to be a part of because of doing what you're doing.
00:05:15
Speaker
I am. My Emma is what many consider a bucket list independent monster truck show outside of World Finals on top of possibly being the biggest independent monster jam or monster truck event on the planet.
00:05:32
Speaker
Oh, yeah. ah We get people every year. i got people, couple of them are probably watching. They'll come out from like Ohio, places like that, just to come out to this show. Because got some of the biggest names in the industry to come out to it and throw down for all the fans that buy a ticket to come in and watch. I've caught some of the like clips and stuff on Facebook of them in the past and YouTube videos.
00:05:56
Speaker
That is definitely a bucket list monster truck show to go see. Well, not only that, and I love how your boss and everybody is entitling us, the promark the pro ah tough trucks, giving the guys a platform to perform on along with the monster trucks and all these big names. And these guys, some of these guys I've seen,
00:06:20
Speaker
through coming to the Jamborees and stuff like that, going to india Indianapolis or something for the Jamboree and everything. But they shine better there in Oklahoma during this show. This is where you get to see them all, all those guys out there.
00:06:36
Speaker
Put it on the line, basically. mean, it's cool to see that stuff. Oh, absolutely. We do shows. So we go to Odessa, Texas. You'll see monster trucks and tough trucks there. Then we go to Springfield two or three times a year, plus Miami, plus Wheatland. So they get multiple opportunities to show up and have a good time about six times a year.
00:07:00
Speaker
And some of the guys that run these tough trucks, they're some of the absolute most down to earth people you will ever meet.
00:07:08
Speaker
Yeah, you're fortunate like I am. I've got I've got ah got a good connection in the and the Tough Truck community, and you couldn't ask for some of the better people actually in motorsports and some of the people I've met through going to monster truck shows. I mean, the drivers themselves are are awesome people. i mean But, yeah, you get to live the basically besides in person. You get to live through your camera and everything else and get to see the behind-the-scenes stuff, which is awesome.
00:07:39
Speaker
Absolutely. it's It's a blast.
00:07:44
Speaker
Your biggest goal. I'm going to hit you with this now and get it out of the way. Your biggest goal in your career. What are you striving for for yourself on the motorsports side of what you do?
Career Aspirations and Milestones
00:08:00
Speaker
I want to turn this into a full time thing. Like monster trucks, tough trucks, stuff like this. that It's something I have grown up around since I was a little kid. I was five years old when my parents took me to my first monster truck show here in Miami.
00:08:17
Speaker
God bless them. They've done everything for me, supported me the whole way through everything. I love them to death. They have led me to be the person I am today and to be able to turn something that started as a child into being a full-blown thing where I can go out each and every weekend and bring new fans into the industry. That is the ultimate goal here.
00:08:39
Speaker
Yeah. i And i I'm awesome. And from seeing your work and just from talking to you, messenger and backstage today, well, you got You got a new fan and hopefully a long distance friend.
00:08:54
Speaker
I'm honored, honestly, like I said, man, to be your first podcast for you to come on and everything else to share your experiences, especially with basically the granddaddy of a mob monster truck show there in Oklahoma and everything else actually in the country. And for you to share your experience, it's an honor.
00:09:18
Speaker
to have you here on the network man absolutely it's a pleasure to be here
00:09:25
Speaker
Adam, some of you are, oh, go ahead, sorry. No, go ahead, you're good. Nope, i well I'll get to later. I forgot what I was going to say anyways. I was going ramble. So the fun thing about this show that is coming up here in about six weeks from now is it is our 45th anniversary of doing Matt Motorsports events in Miami, Oklahoma.
00:09:45
Speaker
We have 14 of the top monster truck drivers on the planet, plus the pro and stock tough truck drivers. For the first time since 2014, we will have a purpose-built backflip ramp that will be used both Friday and Saturday night on top of 14 of the top trucks on the planet.
00:10:05
Speaker
We have the defending king of Miami, Zach Garner, coming back. He's going to try to defend his ground. He's got to compete against his father, Jamie Garner, plus a man who just clinched his arena tour in Monster Jam, being John Zimmer Jr. in Terminal Velocity.
00:10:22
Speaker
And we have some new faces like Chucky Park in the third with Haymaker, Kylie Kidd. We have the Robbins brothers. We have Preston Perez and Preston Collins from Team Throttle Monster. And then we have the returning guys like Tim Jones, Tripp Jones, Alec White's coming back.
00:10:39
Speaker
a Devin will be here. He's got a special thing going on. Stay tuned to our Facebook page to learn more about that as we get closer to the show. And then we have John Zimmer Sr. coming out as well with the uproar.
00:10:55
Speaker
Oh, my goodness. That's a hell of a lineup, man. Those are some heavy hitters. And especially they have the defending arena champ coming to play with these guys. Back to back. Yeah. That is badass, man.
00:11:12
Speaker
And not only that, but both him and Zach Garner. I've had the luxury of watching them to start their careers with us at Matt Motorsports. That's the first time they did competition. And to see them where they are today, competing. I mean, Zach just won a world title like two years ago in racing. And then Zimmer went out last year and threw down in freestyle.
Legacy and Future of Motorsports
00:11:35
Speaker
To see them two coming out, now they're competing in the world finals, winning arena tours, winning stadium freestyles and racing and all that.
00:11:43
Speaker
It's an absolute honor to know that I've got to watch them grow up and progress. And it's same way with all the young guys. I mean, you got guys like Tripp Jones. I reckon here in five or six years, we'll see him competing in Monster Camelot inside these guys.
00:11:58
Speaker
All the young talent we have in the industry nowadays is going to carry this place so far. and that's what we And that's what we need is the younger generation to keep keep it a lot.
00:12:11
Speaker
I mean, I've talked about it on a lot of my shows. If you can't get the younger generation involved, all it's going to do is kill it off. But, yeah, the up-and-coming drivers โ at these at Not only Matt Motorsports, Full Throttle, J&M Productions, anybody that puts on these shows, gives these young guns the talent to come out and show and prove. You've seen it yourself, and you said it yourself.
00:12:37
Speaker
They've made it to the big, big stage of Monster Jam, and they're out there kicking kicking ass, and it's awesome to see this. Absolutely. And the way they have to adapt each and every week, like, so you got CP3 and Kylie Kent. The only thing they've done prior to this year was independent shows. They're hitting crash cars, things like that.
00:12:58
Speaker
And then this year they get thrown into arenas and monster jam. That's a whole different ball game for being outdoors at a fairground venue or a speedway or something like that. to Now you're indoors where you got to be controlled and all of that.
00:13:11
Speaker
And to see their transformation and the way they adapt to each track, it's amazing. the This young talent and this group of young core drivers we've got, the they're great.
00:13:23
Speaker
yeah and And some of it is โ some of that, for them to adapt that quickly, especially doing like you said, that speaks volumes about their ability to learn and understand what they're doing with these these machines. I mean, it's it's phenomenal to see it.
00:13:47
Speaker
Absolutely. Because guys like CP3, so his father is Charlie Pocken, World Finals freestyle champion, absolute legend in the industry. Yep. We probably wouldn't be here today without some of his contributions.
00:14:00
Speaker
So CP3 gets to learn from him. Zimmer Jr. gets to learn from his dad, who's been a former grave digger driver, things like that. then Tripp gets to learn from his dad. Zach gets to learn from Jamie. So the fact that we have all these father-son duos coming in and like the sons are learning from their fathers on top of gaining knowledge that they just learned themselves, it's going to help this industry grow a lot more in the next five to ten years.
00:14:27
Speaker
Oh, yeah. Well, and it's amazing you bring that up. Dennis Anderson and himself, you see the drivers that he's nobody's ever heard of And he gets them, his family gets them trained.
00:14:41
Speaker
And like, here, you're gonna you're driving the world-famous gravedigger body, whatever number they're on when they go to the shows. And they're making a name for themselves from learning from one of the best. And like you said, too, the father-son combos, you're seeing it more and more in the monster truck world. Now, at the fairs the local fair shows and everything else, it's they're passing the torch down. And it's it's it's great.
00:15:08
Speaker
Absolutely. And the lineage runs on forever with some of these families. Like with Tim Jones, you got his son, Trip. Trenton's going to probably pick it up. is Karsten's going to pick it up.
00:15:21
Speaker
Tim's girlfriend drives. I think she's driving this weekend down in Woodward, Oklahoma. Like you get entire families involved that want to be wrapped up in driving. And then it just turns into a whole operation.
00:15:33
Speaker
And you get that with Jamie and Zach too. Jamie and Zach, I'm sure at some point, like they'll have kids like Zach will have kids that want to drive and things like that. Like I'm sure Jamie's kid's going to want to drive at some point.
00:15:46
Speaker
So we're we're in good hands when it comes to the future of this sport for sure. Yeah, that's exciting. Absolutely. So um outside the monster trucks, what is you what is your personal opinion about Besides monster trucks, now getting to see the pro mod, basically what we call here in Ohio, the modified, which are the pro, pro tough trucks that you guys have out there.
00:16:12
Speaker
What do you think of those compared to, to the monster truck side that in a mega truck? So I like them all.
00:16:23
Speaker
I've done show. I've watched shows. I haven't done shows with them, but I've watched shows here in Miami where we've had mega trucks, monster trucks, all of it. and I like them all.
00:16:34
Speaker
Pro-class tough trucks that we get here, they're some of the most competitive people I've ever seen in my life. I mean, yeah you'll see them here later tonight. Pat Pooley's coming on here.
00:16:45
Speaker
That dude wants to win every time he steps foot in that truck and he buckles in. That dude is all smiles when you're walking around in the pits and whatnot. And then the second you see him in his truck, it's a get the hell out of my way type of scenario.
00:16:59
Speaker
And it's the same way with the Megatruck, guys. I've had the fortune of watching Scott Betts with Too Sexy and Weston Anderson do a freestyle competition together. And them two absolutely threw down. I got to watch Weston Anderson jump over a monster truck in Miami.
00:17:17
Speaker
I've also seen Weston was at the long jump world record at Mid-America Outdoors. And then that turned into one of the craziest freestyles I've ever seen in a Megatruck. So just like their competitive natures alone set them to be where they are now.
00:17:34
Speaker
Yeah. and And you have it in every and every one of those classes. Um, yeah, like I said, here, here in Ohio, our big thing, we got the monster truck shows, you know, they come in and do, but yeah, the tough truck class come fair time, especially in my hometown.
00:17:52
Speaker
Um, and it's the We call it the Super Bowl of Tough Trucks in Ohio because we we basically started the Tough Truck thing here, and we've actually got the last two defending ah Jamboree champs that are here that when they were doing Tough Truck series before it ended and then started back up again. So, I mean, I had a guest on last last week. Well, you were in. or before Yeah, last week when I had my panel going on
00:18:24
Speaker
I'd like to get my modified guys, what you guys call the pro class guys. I would love some way to get West Coast, East Coast, and the Midwest together to find out actually who has the baddest pro modified rough truck in the country.
00:18:43
Speaker
it'd be neat to find the way to get them the It'd be neat to find a way to get them together because you got Larry McCormick out in California, out West with his crew. I follow him, talk with him on Facebook.
00:18:54
Speaker
Got your guys, Pat and all them, they're in Oklahoma and stuff and in Missouri. Got my guys here in Ohio. The list can go on for them.
00:19:05
Speaker
And then you got the Pennsylvania guys and some of the North Carolina guys and stuff. It would be sweet if there was a way to meet in the middle somewhere to get them together for for a weekend to find out who who it is. We were talking about it a week ago, and it's like that would be neat to actually find out who actually had the best. See, and I want to up the stakes on that. If that can become a thing, it should be three wide racing somehow. You have ah East, West, and Midwest, and they're all running three lanes all at once. Do like a bracket style thing.
00:19:41
Speaker
That would be sick. If you could do that, yes, that would be awesome. i like that idea. That is cool. us The fun thing with us, and I don't know if this is a thing there in Ohio, is we'll do stock class. So we'll have guys come out and like geometros or farm trucks, things like that, and they're racing them. So I think we have them. like Pro racing bracket and then a stock racing bracket.
00:20:05
Speaker
i yeah we have entertain Yeah, we have we have the stock class and stuff and there's a couple of our fairs they have They'll do a cheater stock which what they classified cheater stock is you got a cutter break inside your Inside your vehicle they consider that cheater class, but normally it's just the stock and the modified classes is all we run here in Ohio But yeah have that that would be cool as hell to have something like that get to do and see who ah who could have the most fun, but also be i'd be a hell of a competitive field.
Memorable Personalities and Events
00:20:40
Speaker
Oh, absolutely, 100%.
00:20:44
Speaker
so Some of the wildest tough truck racing I've ever seen came from Johnny Jungblatt. That man. saying He's insane. We were in Springfield about two months ago, and I watched that dude hit a barricade Friday night going probably at least 40 plus miles an hour. He comes over the final jump, goes straight into a barricade, sheds the entire front end of the truck out, and he still gets out of the truck and pounds his chest like a gorilla.
00:21:15
Speaker
I've seen the i seen the video. I've seen the video of actually him. when he hit the barrier. i thought he seriously hurt himself and then see him climb out doing like you said, just just celebrate. there was Yeah, every video I've ever watched that man run in, he is balls to the wall. It does not matter. He's on the edge every time he steps in that truck.
00:21:39
Speaker
He is indestructible. I have watched him jump car stacks in his tough truck. I've watched him tease jumping over a bus. I think one year he came over an ambulance stack we had out in Miami.
00:21:51
Speaker
Oh my God. That dude is crazy. And I go through the autograph line and I'm like, how's your back, buddy? And he's like, fuck, I shouldn't have done that.
00:22:02
Speaker
And it's like, I already did it, buddy. What now? i bet I bet his chiropractor loves him after race weekend or something. Oh, That is the most electric man I have ever seen in my life. Oh, yeah. he I've watched constant โ like I said, I watch videos and I follow him and everything else.
00:22:22
Speaker
And every time he straps in โ what's What's he going to pull off this time? Is he going to cartwheel it? Is he going to flip it end over end? What's he jumping this time? or you know gonna Like you said, he's not afraid to put that truck in himself to put on for the fans. and Yeah, he's nuts. He's nuts. I couldn't do half the shit he's done.
00:22:44
Speaker
And when he's going against the competition that we bring in, he's going against guys like Bradley Forrester, Dylan Hand with Hot Pursuit, guys like that. So he's going against the best of the best. So it's like your your gas pedal is to the floor. Whatever happens, it happens. I'm either going out in spectacular fashion or I'm winning the whole damn show.
00:23:05
Speaker
It doesn't matter. It doesn't matter how it ends. I'm going to be a highlight reel either way. Yeah, that is that is definitely what you see ah on his Facebook page of him. Oh, yeah.
00:23:17
Speaker
He's crazy. Well, and that's another thing. He's one of those ones going from outdoors to indoors. He's the same no matter what. It does not matter if it's outdoors or indoors. He's not like all the other guys where, okay, we're we're on a little looser dirt, whatever. he's He's to the floor, and he don't care. He holds on and he wins or whatever, he goes.
00:23:42
Speaker
ah oh Exactly. And that's how it was. So my MO last year, we got unfortunate luck with Mother Nature, but he was still peddled to the floor through the mud. And then we get into Springfield a couple months ago. That plays faster. Guys are running super fast laps. And he comes in, and he's still peddled to the floor, throwing down sub-13s, things like that.
00:24:06
Speaker
have we quite possibly John has one of the fastest tough trucks I've ever seen. Oh yeah. ill vo I'll vouch for it. Like I said, really the only, only way to find out would would be to find out like we were just talking about, man, as if we can could find a way to get everybody together in one location, bring the best of the West coast and the East coast together and the Midwest and find out,
00:24:34
Speaker
Who is, who's the deal? Because he'd met, I got a guy here that I'm good friends with that John and him would be one hell of a race because he's not scared of the lap pedal either. He don't care. He puts it to the wood too. So, but I don't think he'd do half the stuff that John does when it comes to racing. So i know they go it'd be a good race.
00:24:59
Speaker
Absolutely. I don't think you're going to find many tough truck drivers who are willing to jump their pro truck over a bus stack or an ambulance or something like that anyway. so no No, I had, we had one guy do it one time and it was up at a, I think it was a month. It was one of the monster truck shows.
00:25:17
Speaker
He, his, he had a Ranger built kind of like a pro four Ranger and he jumped, jumped the stack of buses and, He regretted it afterwards, but he's the only one I've ever known here in Ohio to actually do what he did. I mean, he went way out there. and He looked like he cleared like 60 foot in the air when he jumped it. He had a safe heart.
00:25:42
Speaker
That's the funny thing about Johnny is I have yet to see him jump over anything big since he jumped. I think it was an ambulance. I'm 90% certain it was an ambulance stack.
00:25:53
Speaker
Since he jumped that, I have yet to see him like lift more than 15 feet off the ground. so I'm beginning to think he might have regretted that, but the roar of the crowd that I heard that night was insane.
00:26:08
Speaker
yeah Oh, yeah. On... On the intro you did for me that everybody saw, that is some of the work that Morgan does for Motorsports.
00:26:21
Speaker
That is actually their entrance to their YouTube channel, if I'm not correct. ah So that is actually an entrance I specifically threw together for this show. Oh, okay.
00:26:32
Speaker
It is specific to this show to highlight some of our stuff and some of the stuff that I can do. And it also highlights some of our big crashes over the last few years that we've had.
00:26:44
Speaker
well i appreciate that. we I got i got ah one of a kind artwork that I'm i'm glad i I have saved and everything else that as a memory for this and and an exclusive for our network. I appreciate it.
00:26:58
Speaker
But yes, he does that. That is the kind of stuff folks that he does for Max is, you know, throws the videos together and everything. And, Films and stuff and does everything like he was saying in the beginning of the show.
00:27:11
Speaker
And I would like to point out to some of the other things I do. John, if you're watching, I am a professional frisbee thrower to the crowd, especially in arenas.
00:27:22
Speaker
I hope you can sense some sarcasm there. I might be the fucking worst. um john when i watching I told you I was going to bring it up. How I am the best.
00:27:36
Speaker
If he comments, he will say, i am the worst.
00:27:42
Speaker
Oh, boy. But, yeah. It's all part of the fan interaction. That's right. You got to keep the fans entertained and everything else um during the show and in between the show and after the show. So, I mean, absolutely that's the best part of it all. So.
00:28:01
Speaker
Even if that means taking a Frisbee and throwing it up to a second deck and missing everybody by 20 feet, you're still entertaining somebody somehow. ye Yep. You get to be a butt of a joke for for about 30 seconds or if not for the night because of something like that. I get it. I've been there, done that on some other occasions, so I understand. and Oh, absolutely.
00:28:23
Speaker
It happened a few weeks ago. We were in Springfield and halftime comes up. They hand me a stack of Frisbees. And I got to throw them up. And so Springfield is a no lower section seating. Everything is upper level.
00:28:38
Speaker
Oh, boy. So I look up and I'm like, damn, that's a long ass throw. The first frisbee I throw, it goes up. And I'm like, okay, this is going to be easy. And the next thing I know, it's coming back right at me.
00:28:53
Speaker
Oh, you're playing catch with yourself. I have probably 15 or 20 of them Frisbees in my hand, and I made probably four of them to the crowd that night. And then Saturday night rolls around, and we do the same thing again.
00:29:07
Speaker
So I'm like, okay, F this. I'm going up top, and I'm just going hand them out. You were pretty entertaining with the Frisbee.
00:29:18
Speaker
Hey, thank you, Lee. So I get up there and I'm like, okay, this is going to be more easy. I'm just going to hand them to all these kids and all that and make some people's day. I get up there and our announcer, Ross Bonar, absolutely amazing guy.
00:29:35
Speaker
He says, who wants to win some free merchandise? Next thing I know, I'm waving a Frisbee in my hand and about 40 kids come charging at me. I'm like, oh shit, this was a bad idea.
00:29:50
Speaker
Because next thing I know, I'm surrounded by kids just trying to walk through to make it all the way down to the other end of the section of seating. I can't make it all the way down to the other section of seating when I'm surrounded trying to bulldoze my way through.
00:30:06
Speaker
So I ended up giving those Frisbees back. I come back down. I'm sweating my ass off and all that. And then i look over because I have one of my buddies, Nathan, there, and he's sitting there like chuckling at me.
00:30:22
Speaker
But at the end of the day, I'm like, you know, I would rather go up there and get surrounded by 40 kids than throw about 40 of them 100 yards the opposite direction and nobody get one.
00:30:38
Speaker
Hopefully Miami isn't souped so I can see just how good you are with a frisbee. I mean, either way, you're going to see how good I am with a frisbee. The good thing about Miami, though, is it's straight shot seating. It's not everybody's elevated, so we're fine. Right.
00:30:53
Speaker
Yeah, that that makes it difficult on anything. I mean, even if you're not only Frisbees or you got like the little collectible footballs or trying to throw banded up T-shirt or something if you don't have one of those T-shirt guns.
00:31:06
Speaker
It makes it hard because you got all that space in between you and and the people and it's like, okay, here we go. We're going to do the best I can. Absolutely. That's all I could do.
00:31:19
Speaker
I bet you made those kids nights though. I bet you made those kids night, man. At the end of the day, seeing the smile on the kids faces when I handed them a frisbee and all that and seeing their parents say, thank you. That's all that matters. You're making somebody's night.
00:31:35
Speaker
Oh yeah. Yeah. Especially at the the shows like that and stuff when you're inside and everything you get, they get, it's not only they get the show, but because of what you did there, they're getting that. It's a core memory. Be like, Hey,
00:31:48
Speaker
the fri The guy with the Frisbee personally handed it to me while I was bombarding him. But it's something else that it's something else that they get. It's something else that they can remember and look back on from their childhood and be like, and they'll have kids that will go to events that somebody is doing the same thing you do and be like, I was that kid one time.
00:32:11
Speaker
I mean, awesome to see that. I used to be that way. I would sit front row and hope somebody shot me in the chest with the t-shirt cannon. It never happened, but I wish it would have. I've been fortunate with the Frisbee frisbee game and stuff, but yeah the t-shirt cannon deal, no, I haven't been been that lucky. But the Frisbees and the little football kind of thing, yeah, I've got i still got a few of them. but It's core memories like that that are worth keeping.
00:32:38
Speaker
Oh, yeah. Yep, sure is.
00:32:45
Speaker
So let's talk a little bit about our more about our upcoming show in Miami.
Upcoming Shows and Innovations
00:32:51
Speaker
Bring it on. I'm ready to hear some exciting news for this. So for the first time since 2014, we have a purpose-built backflip ramp, of course, that will be used both nights.
00:33:03
Speaker
We will have pro and stock class tough trucks. But to chop it all off, Devin Jones... Miami, Oklahoma town hero.
00:33:15
Speaker
He lives five minutes from the fairgrounds. Everybody in this town knows him. He will be debuting a brand new 20th anniversary barbarian monster truck body.
00:33:27
Speaker
Really? Most people are used seeing him with like Crusheroo, things like that. But for this year and this year only, because it is an anniversary, he will have a 20th anniversary edition custom body.
00:33:44
Speaker
We're still working out some details with that and waiting on full confirmation. But if things go as planned, that Thursday, the week of the show, there will be a reveal of the body on the Matt Motorsports Facebook page.
00:34:00
Speaker
I'm not 100% certain of that happening yet. I've pitched the idea. But that is something we're looking to make happen is reveal that body live on Facebook.
00:34:12
Speaker
Devin is snotic now absolutely and with Devin Jones you never know what he's going to come up with that dude is one of the craziest people I've ever met when it comes to driving at that fairgrounds so you never know what he is going to do absolutely down-to-earth guy though but if everything goes to plan fans will be able to tune in that Thursday the week of the show to see the body get revealed
00:34:43
Speaker
Hi, Johnny. like ah Hello. my pardon yes Hopefully everything's okay. cool and i apologize You're good, man.
00:34:54
Speaker
I would like to point out about that show as well. We will be starting at 7 o'clock this year instead of 7.30. That is 30 minutes earlier than usual. And this is 14 trucks. It is the most trucks we have ever had at the front routes in one show.
00:35:11
Speaker
Holy shit. And that's for both. That's for the whole weekend. Yes, it is a Friday and Saturday event. Nice.
00:35:22
Speaker
Sounds like a road trip to Oklahoma. Hey, come on out. It'll be a good time. 14 trucks, stock class tough trucks, pro class tough trucks. You can ride the Mighty Monster Bus.
00:35:34
Speaker
ah We have a kids night going on Friday night. So the first 400 kids that show up Friday night will receive a free toy monster truck. i Yeah, that's awesome. Plus, we have a kids gravedigger monster truck challenge yeah where kids can enter in a contest. And i think it is four lucky winners get a chance to be a part of the show racing little kids toy monster trucks.
00:35:59
Speaker
So that's always a fun thing for the kids to do because then you get to watch their parents and all that react to their kid being out there. And on top of that, it's all around like Miami is just a great time.
00:36:13
Speaker
But it's not even just Miami. Every show we do you're going to have a good time no matter what. The guys that run for us, they do the absolute best they possibly can. I've never seen some people drive harder than they do for us. It is absolutely amazing.
00:36:32
Speaker
Yeah, I can vouch for that from watching YouTube videos of Wheatland and They're Maima and i mean everything else, man. that It's been posted on YouTube watching not only just the Tough Truck stuff, but, yeah, the Monster Truck guys, they're just as hardcore, especially there at this upcoming show. This is, like like I said, the granddaddy of them all of the independent Monster Truck things, like you even said.
00:36:59
Speaker
They come and let it hang, it's awesome. And absolutely. And this year it's our 45th anniversary. So you never know what's going to happen.
00:37:09
Speaker
Especially when you're pulling guys like Tim Jones and Jamie and all of them out here. Yeah. Like you never know what they're going to do. How, how you guys may end up with surprises. You don't know about until the week, the week of two, possibly yeah the way it sounds for being a, being a 45 year anniversary of that show.
00:37:29
Speaker
Maybe. our Our lineup's pretty set. It'll probably stay at 14. But the fun thing the fans get to look forward to is what kind of track we're going to bring to them.
00:37:41
Speaker
Because Miami is a big track for us. That's always a fun thing to bring. Well, and like you said, bringing that backflip back since 2014, that really is going to be something to be playing along with how you guys set up the track. yeah but Absolutely. Absolutely.
00:37:59
Speaker
That will make for an interesting weekend. and wonder I wonder if any of the pro tough truck guys will give it a shot freestyle-wise.
00:38:12
Speaker
I doubt it. Well, I don't know. Maybe we'll ask Pat when he's on here later. Yeah, we'll see. We'll see.
00:38:22
Speaker
but All around, we're it's going to be a good year for us. into The weekend after Miami, we go down to Springfield Raceway. so for Really? So this is actually going to be a first for me as a person as a whole.
00:38:39
Speaker
So we have seven monster trucks and then dirt racing, which is being put on by Jerry, the guy that runs the raceway. So we're in charge of the monster truck portion of that. He's doing dirt racing, and that's all going to be a one night.
00:38:55
Speaker
I've never been to a dirt racing event, but I am absolutely ecstatic to see dirt racing for the first time ever. You'll love it. You'll love it, man. I'll tell you what. If you like you like what you're doing now, dirt track racing, I'll take it any day over any asphalt racing, NASCAR or anything. Give me dirt track racing all day long.
00:39:16
Speaker
For sure. Absolutely. And, I mean, I grew up, I was playing all the World of Outlaws games and all that. oh yeah. I like dirt racing, so. to be able You'll enjoy yourself.
00:39:28
Speaker
Absolutely. And to be able to say that I watched my first dirt racing event with some of my favorite people on this entire planet, that's just going to make it 10 times better. Oh, yeah. That's going to help 10 times. That's 100 times better, not 10. We're going to make it even bigger.
00:39:45
Speaker
But, yeah, that'll be awesome to get to do that. And that's cool combination, man. Having some dirt track racing with some monster trucks. i That's a nice combination right there.
00:39:56
Speaker
Very much so. Absolutely. And it's the, so i could be wrong and I'll get told I'm wrong in the comments if I'm wrong. I believe this will be the first time we do a show where there is monster trucks and then dirt racing in between.
00:40:13
Speaker
I could be wrong. I don't think I'm wrong, but I could be. but You heard him here first before giving him any shit in the comments.
00:40:23
Speaker
He said he thinks. He's not quoting it and everything else. He's letting it be known. Yeah. He's letting it be known. I'm not going to give it out false info, but I am 90% certain and that is the first time we will do an event like that.
00:40:40
Speaker
I'm looking forward to some some of your โ Videos and stuff if you if you're not overly excited by watching after the monster truck shows done of you some of the Dirt Track racing and stuff man o Yes, Lee said it is is it the first time That's what I thought Lee. Thank you for giving me confirmation There you go. So you were you were actually 100% right. So no more second guessing yourself. That's a rare sight to be 100% right on my end.
00:41:15
Speaker
so We're all guilty of it. So it's all good. Welcome to the club. I'm a part of that club more than I want to be. I'm going to be honest.
00:41:28
Speaker
ah But yeah, that'll be ah that'll be an awesome experience for having a first time for monster trucks and dirt track together and for you to get to actually see dirt track racing in person, that's going to be a hell of a night. That's going to be a fun night.
00:41:47
Speaker
Oh, yeah. I'm looking forward to it. And then after that, we have the Ozark Empire Fair at Springfield, August 1st. I believe that'll be five or six trucks plus tough trucks.
00:42:02
Speaker
It's a one-night-only event. Okay. And then following that, we have the big other big one in Wheatland, Missouri. That is august or October 24, 2026. So that kind of rounds out. That's another big one.
00:42:18
Speaker
Yeah. that um many i comment on How many monsters do you guys usually get for the the October show? So it started out with eight and then I believe now we are up to 10. Damn, that's quite a year the year before. That's a lot of monster trucks for one show.
00:42:42
Speaker
Absolutely. And plus with Wheatland, the fun thing is, is we get the backflip ramp again. o thank We always get the backflip. It's the biggest track we do. I mean, we've done over under racing there. We've done a J hook, everything. so Nice, man. that's what That's one of them shows. Like it's the end of our year. So we go out for it.
00:43:06
Speaker
Good luck. And plus it's on Halloween week. So you get all the kids, they dress up in costumes, things like that. They come out, they're doing like monster truck trunk or treating type of situation and things like that. That's that's all around just a good time.
00:43:23
Speaker
Oh, yeah. um like I like what you guys are doing with the the fan interactions, man. I mean, it is it as cool as hell. yeah um especially with the kids. Do you guys at your shows do the pit parties and stuff too, like some of these other other shows that are around the country and everything?
00:43:44
Speaker
So the way we do pit parties is we do one in Odessa. We'll do one in Springfield. And then Miami is kind of like, so we have pit access, but it's not necessarily like a full-on pit party because that's one of them shows like we're still watering the track and things like that come showtime. So we don't necessarily do like a full-on pit party for it.
00:44:10
Speaker
But after the shows, fans can come out to the concessions area and they can meet the drivers, take pictures, get autographs, talk, things like that. Oh, that's cool. Hey, well, you got figure too, as big as that show is and everything else that is, it's honestly, it is, you can correct me if I'm wrong, but it's a mini monster jam for independent monster truck racing for you guys.
00:44:36
Speaker
I mean, that is like the, the big, the big stage for, for your drivers when they come to your guys' a show there. Absolutely. And it's the same way with Wheatland. So Wheatland, we get a pit party. Kids come out in Halloween costumes and all that.
00:44:52
Speaker
okay And then the fair show, they get that. And then this year at the way raceway show, with it being our first time, there will also be a pit party. And it'll be both nights from 530 to 630.
00:45:06
Speaker
Fans can come in, take pictures with the trucks, get autographs, things like that. So pit parties are amazing because you get see all the smiles on the kids' faces, things like that. Like they get to interact with some of their people they watch on TV.
00:45:20
Speaker
So it's all they around just a good time. Yeah. Yeah, that's like around here with the the two the two promoters I talked about with theirs. They do like you guys do.
00:45:32
Speaker
And to see the interactions, the drivers and the kids, that is like always puts a big smile on my face. um Oh, absolutely.
00:45:42
Speaker
It's all around. Just a great time. ah Springfield, Missouri, that pit party was pretty good. We had the autograph car setting out and everything like that. and Fans were having a good time signing the autograph car and all of that. so Without the fans, we would not be where we are today.
00:46:00
Speaker
all right All right, folks. We're going to take about couple-minute break here real quick and everything else. Me and Johnny will sit here. I'm going to catch Johnny up on stuff.
00:46:11
Speaker
And everything Morgan will be right back. He's got to go handle some business real quick and stuff. um We Morgan will be back with us in a second. Me and Johnny will be here. Go ahead, Morgan. And I'll go ahead and just mute your mic for you, buddy. And I'll see you when you get back here in a few seconds.
00:46:30
Speaker
Yeah. Mr. Part timer. Dude, it's been awesome. You're good, dude. You don't have to explain nothing. Next time though, at least message me. Cause you had me worried.
00:46:41
Speaker
I'm going to say it right here. but But yeah, we bro the the catching up on stuff, man, it's yeah he it is all.
00:46:52
Speaker
This show coming up that we're talking about Miami, Oklahoma, that 45-year deal, there's YouTube videos and everything else. Look up Matt Motorsports. That's the company works it's for right there on the back of his chair.
00:47:07
Speaker
um He does his His thing is is called MC Productions. It's on Facebook. I'll send you the link to it of his videos and pictures, man.
00:47:17
Speaker
He does some amazing stuff, dude.
Evolution of Matt Motorsports
00:47:21
Speaker
And for he's he's he's another one that's getting to live his dream out, dude. Hell yeah.
00:47:28
Speaker
So, I mean, it's โ and to be honest with you โ I thought it โ
00:47:40
Speaker
Well, was the first thing that came up too. Yeah. Yeah. Pat, a lot of seedings in the pits too. Damn. up Well, from Pat, what I seen in the videos and stuff, let's see. Sam says, Oh yeah. Monster truck show, Sam, you're you're a hundred percent right. They are.
00:47:58
Speaker
It is always usually a good time. um Sometimes I'm like, like Morgan was talking to earlier in the show. it Mother Nature tries to put a damper sometimes on these outdoor shows, but you get those drivers out there and stuff, man. They do pretty damn good for what it is in the mud and stuff. so but yeah it's But, yeah, man, you get a chance. Check that stuff out, Johnny. There's some โ gets you more in-depth.
00:48:27
Speaker
Yeah. And one of the people that are coming to the show that's coming up, Is a Monster Jam, just recently won the Monster Jam Arena Championship.
00:48:40
Speaker
It's actually going to be one of the 14 monster trucks that's come in the race at this race. Oh, yeah, he's got a lot of big, they got a lot of big name guys coming in.
00:48:51
Speaker
Dude, it the list is amazing. um It'd be cool if it wasn't so far away and everything else, be able to go to something like that.
00:49:01
Speaker
And then, of course you get the of course, then you get the tough truck stuff on the side and everything else too. so Hell, yeah.
00:49:11
Speaker
But, yeah. I got Johnny on all your โ the Matt Motorsports social medias and your MC production social medias for you too and caught him up on some of the stuff that he he missed a little bit and everything. I told him about some of the drivers you're going to have.
00:49:26
Speaker
that are Monster Jam drivers and everything else, and then the father-son duos that are coming that are big-name people too. Like he said earlier, this this show there, and and like Pat said, with the seating, the fans show up.
00:49:44
Speaker
it is And that's why it's been going on for 45 years. I mean, dude, that says a lot about a a Monster Truck show. If it's been going on for 45 years... And that's, so the thing is, is like the whole 45 years, it's been like, so it started out truck and tractor pulls. Then they brought in a couple of monster trucks to do an exhibition. And then it turned into doing like the old school monster trucks, drag racing over the car stacks, things like that.
00:50:15
Speaker
I mean, guys like Pablo Huffaker, when he was starting out, Dennis Anderson, guys like that have competed there. And then it turned into being a full blown show and what you see nowadays. Yeah. So the way that show has grown from ah Neil Darnell running it to passing it on to John Darnell and then him taking over. That
00:50:39
Speaker
yeah that show has grown a lot. Yeah. Potential, man. It does well with the people and people have a good time.
00:50:51
Speaker
Absolutely. The people here, they are amazing. We get people from all around the country that come in. They're cheering their asses off, having a blast. That's how much to win Pro Class Tough Trucks at Miami.
00:51:04
Speaker
Pro Class payout is first place gets, I believe, $400. Second is $300. And third and fourth is $200. And then fifth through eighth gets $100. That could be changing. i' am not 100% certain that is what we have listed today.
00:51:17
Speaker
On our website right now. So I am basing that information off the website. I have not been told to update it yet. So I'm assuming that is correct info.
00:51:29
Speaker
There you go, Dan. Got your answer, buddy. yeah
00:51:37
Speaker
I will say if you are coming from out of state, come give these boys a run for their money.
00:51:45
Speaker
we welcome anybody and everybody with tough trucks especially stock class i have never watched a stock class tough truck competition where you have a brand new ram trx coming in directly off a dealership lot to come race in a stock class tough truck race we i had it i had a dole One year at my local fair, 30-day tags on it. Four-door extended cab, 3,500 Dodge.
00:52:22
Speaker
He came in and and ran the damn thing at the fair. i was like So we both had something we both had something for our first thought stuff.
00:52:43
Speaker
What happened to his mic?
00:52:46
Speaker
don't know. Whoops. I hit the button that I wasn't supposed to hit. You're fired. My bad. You're fired. So what what was the last thing you heard me say?
00:52:59
Speaker
About the TRX coming in right off the showroom floor. And I was telling you about the brand new four-door Dodge Dually. and our We had our first of Right off showroom floor trucks running tough trucks.
00:53:13
Speaker
Okay, so you didn't miss it anyway. So we have had some of the most interesting stock class tough truck cut entries ever. Lee will remember these. We have had a Geo Metro come in and win the whole damn thing. It knocked off the Jeep Cherokees and everything.
00:53:28
Speaker
Lee will remember that. Geo Metro came in and won stock class tough trucks. We have had Ram TRXs, not one, but two of them come in. We have had flatbed farm trucks with old number 69 painted on the side of them. We've had a little bit of everything. request of tur wise But a Geo Metro won a whole event.
00:53:54
Speaker
oh my goodness out the metal Wow. This was probably five or six years ago it came in. It won the whole thing.
00:54:05
Speaker
After seeing last year, I'm tempted to get a tough trick ready for 27. I'll be honest with yeah it's ah It's a lot of fun. I'm a driver myself and everything else. So, I mean, it can be fun.
00:54:18
Speaker
All I recommend... Good five-point harness and a good suspension seat that's got that's got some decent cushioning to it instead of a stock seat unless you're running stock class.
00:54:30
Speaker
But still, I'd get a a decent seat. I'll be honest with you. shit You could just roll up to used car lot and be like, hey, what's the biggest POS you got sitting here that will blow up? hu Just so I can go have fun. sorry even or for or Yeah, we've had some
00:54:51
Speaker
number the all We've had, yeah we yeah but with The F600 actually what the farm truck was that we had. And it was a flat bed. And spray painted on the side of the doors, it was number 69.
00:55:06
Speaker
I'm not going to but explain what that means. Everybody that knows what it means, you get it. The Geo Metro came in with our junk cars. We put a battery in it and ran it so it ended up in the spot class.
00:55:21
Speaker
Three races? Holy cow.
00:55:27
Speaker
mean an Oh, an outback would be, that would be, that would ah that'd still be a good one. Those outbacks, those two be outbacks or something else. Let me tell y'all somebody, you got to get in here
00:55:42
Speaker
You hit the button again. of a bitch.
00:55:49
Speaker
i see that go red i'm like you hit the button again yeah if you see that go red just scream at me i gotta stop touching that damn mic i'm not used to using it i only use it for studio you gotta get lee on here one time that dude these stories he could tell you he has a long lineage with monster trucks and these i'm going to tell you they're pretty good Sam's yelling at you now through the comments. Morgan, stop touching the mic. It's not my fault, damn it. You're getting it from everywhere. It's a damn accident.
00:56:27
Speaker
it I will definitely send, I will send actually a Lee, a friend's request on Facebook. and i know that Lee, if you don't mind, I'll message you and maybe we can set a time for you to come up on the show.
00:56:42
Speaker
Hell yeah. Lee, if you come on here, I'll even come back on here with you. I was going to say, I can bring you in more. i can bring Morgan back up here with you so you don't feel out of place. and maybe we can tell we yeah Maybe we can tell John that he's not too old to remember shit and he'll get on here.
00:57:01
Speaker
yeah Just been around him since 85. Yeah, you've been around for a while. I was three years old in 85. Telling my age.
00:57:15
Speaker
There you go, Morgan. Check this out. I said okay. okay um Let's make it happen, buddy. we I would love to have you both on here. That would be sweet.
00:57:27
Speaker
Yeah. So I am going to make a formal announcement. In about 30 minutes, our special guest will be joining us. Oh.
00:57:39
Speaker
told you to I told everybody we'd had in the post, i we had he had we had some surprises for you folks tonight. and We'll get to meet them all here in 30 minutes. It's going be awesome. david gar that that's ah so that That's okay. if i hey If I act like a schoolboy with a little school kid with the one you're going to bring up on here because it's the first time having one and and on the show and Being able to pick his brain?
00:58:11
Speaker
Forgive me. Yell at me. oh yeah Hey, listen, if he don't yell it or if i don't yell at you, Pat might yell at you because I told Pat he'd be on here it in about an hour, hour and a half. so Hey, you did something I couldn't do. i actually ah I actually asked Pat about three months ago when he started actually getting a chance to watch the show if he would be interested to come up.
00:58:37
Speaker
Thank you. I've been honored because he's, like I said, he's always been in the chats with me and everything else, watching my show, commenting and stuff when I've had my buddies up here that race.
00:58:47
Speaker
And it's going to be an honor to actually have him up here on the show. But the other one I'm really looking forward to also. I love Pat. i He's been racing since I was a baby.
00:59:00
Speaker
I was a little kid. I've got the luxury because I work retail outside of monster trucks. I don't want to talk about that. for Nope, we don't have to. For a guy like Pat was bragging, and I'm going to throw you under the bus, Pat. You can get after me later.
00:59:17
Speaker
For a guy almost 70 years old, still enjoying what he's doing, sets the standard, the bar high. for us younger generation to carry on in this sport.
00:59:29
Speaker
Oh, yeah, absolutely. And Pat can race with the best of them, too. Yeah, and that right there is, like, I told him, I made the comment, I said, dude, you just raised the bar for everybody.
00:59:41
Speaker
Almost 70 years old, still racing rough trucks, man. That is phenomenal. Hell yeah. And he competes with the best of Omician every week he goes and races. Whether it's with us or like some other tour that's doing a tough truck show close by. Yeah, he hits a moon he can And that man can race.
01:00:06
Speaker
I got to watch a video of him and John race one time. It was a turn that caught pat the cost Pat that race against John. that would have That was one of the tightest races from out that I've seen. ah Well, the Midwest Tough Truck Series. They post videos, and they've had John and and him, and that's where he was racing Pat at one of their races. And, yeah, Pat got a little squirrely in a corner, but he had John at least by half a truck in that race, and my jaw dropped. I was like, he's going to beat him. He's going to beat him watching this video.
01:00:42
Speaker
A couple of the best tough truck races I have watched occurred. Were you calling me old Yes, he was. like that Yes, he was. like Don't let him pull you.
01:00:56
Speaker
I would never do that. Some of the best tough truck racing I ever watched was when I was a kid. It was Pat and Steve Darnell, who unfortunately passed away a couple of years ago with a mischief tough truck.
01:01:13
Speaker
Those two would put on some of the absolute best races against each other i have ever seen in my life. Yeah. What's up, Zempheus? Oh, that's right. You do have the Champs Off-Road there.
01:01:24
Speaker
He works at the works at the Lucas Oil Speedway dirt track and stuff, and he he gets to see all the big dog late models and all that, and they're bringing in the Champs Off-Road truck racing this weekend there. So he's been letting me he keeps me informed.
01:01:45
Speaker
Dude, I'm excited to go watch some dirt racing. Like, I you genuinely am. You have a blast. We've been going there for a while. Last year, we didn't get to go, but I think once.
01:01:58
Speaker
I've got like four tracks within an hour to two hours of me here in Ohio for dirt track racing to go check out on a Friday or Saturday night. plus yeah Plus, I got bragging rights.
01:02:10
Speaker
i Honestly, I think we got one of the best dirt tracks in the country, and that's Eldora Speedway down in southern Ohio that Tony Stewart owns. But... With you being in Ohio, do you ever go check out like the monster truck drags that Sylvester does or like any of Elliot shows that they do?
Community and Personal Growth
01:02:29
Speaker
Uh, haven't because usually the work schedule don't let me when they have them when they're around. So it's, it's hard, but I've seen where they've advertised them. And I know a few of the guys, uh,
01:02:44
Speaker
You might, Zempius, you may not run run the place, but you keep the place running. It's the same thing, dude. I mean, you you do a lot of the grunt work, man, so. Yeah. If you ever have a chance to go check out an Elliot Miller show, I would do it. Elliot is great guy too as well. One of my buddies, Nathan, he might be watching. I have had the opportunity to kind of learn more about Elliot and all that. and Elliot Miller puts on great shows as well.
01:03:16
Speaker
Another one of the top independent monster truck promotions as well, monster truck throwdown. That's where lot of these guys have gotten their starts from is whether it was us or with Elliott or toughest places like that. so
01:03:36
Speaker
Oh, yeah. Sorry, Lee. It's just me being picky. But you did correct me. You are right. Diamond in the dirt for a reason, baby. Yep. Yep.
01:03:49
Speaker
But, yeah, I mean, it's those those honestly are too the two best dirt tracks in the country. And also we're fortunate.
01:04:01
Speaker
Mansfield Motor Speedway is getting revived thanks to Matt Tripp. I appreciate everything he's doing, bringing dirt track racing back to that part of this part of Ohio and everything else. so Yeah.
01:04:19
Speaker
Oh, definitely, Zepheus. I'll get with you, man. Hell yeah.
01:04:26
Speaker
But yeah yeah, it'll be fun. I need to get down to Lucas at some point to watch a dirt race. That would be pretty entertaining. They do everything there. They have a like boat drag strip and everything. like That place is huge.
01:04:44
Speaker
Oh, yeah. If you get to go down there to watch... Try to make it down there when they have the super late model race if you get a chance to, man. That is like, oh, God.
01:04:56
Speaker
That is phenomenal. There's a guy I follow on Facebook. His name, I believe, is Tanner Holmes. That's somebody I want to go out and watch race. Dude, he is fucking awesome. Yeah.
01:05:07
Speaker
I'm going to go out watch him race at some point. hair It's just hard. Morgan, there's your open invite. Because of that, and he does this for, I've got it too.
01:05:19
Speaker
that When he comes, he will give you back everything, behind the scenes, all that stuff. so where is Where is he at? At Lucas Motor Speedway in Wheatland.
01:05:31
Speaker
I'm going to have to take you up on that offer. There you go, Zipheus. And I'm still going to try to plan out within the next two years to make my way out there, too, man. I got to get out there.
01:05:45
Speaker
The only time I get out there is with the monsters, so... To get out there for a dirt race and know I don't have the stress of monsters, that would be a pretty good time. 67 hours into the week already at the track? Holy cow.
01:06:03
Speaker
That's another thing I'd like to touch on, too. And i I'm not ragging on anybody or talking negative. But i don't there's some people I don't think they understand just how much work goes into putting on a show.
01:06:15
Speaker
Yeah, for sure. Oh, it's... And I don't mean this in, like, no negative connotation towards anybody whatsoever, but, like, for me, with my job with Matt Motorsports, I create all the ads, the Facebook videos, things like that. I feel a part of me is responsible for putting asses in seats every week.
01:06:34
Speaker
yeah Oh, yeah. Because I'm the one who puts the ads out that draws people's attention and whatnot. So the like stress, and then when you show up to a venue, so like last year with Miami or like with Springfield, when I showed up and then I found out like Springfield nearly sold out both nights, but did sell out Saturday night. It was like, okay, i you know I did my job with advertising good enough. Yeah.
01:07:02
Speaker
and making my ads and graphics and stuff for John to use that it was like, okay, I caught people's attention with something. I made people want to come out. Yeah. or and somewhere with my Well, the thing is too, I got to experience last year firsthand because I ran the timers for the tough truck side of the monster truck show.
01:07:25
Speaker
I got to watch the ground get broke from flat surface to the jumps being made and organizing everything behind the scenes. That's a lot of work, not only advertising and stuff like you do, but putting in to the event.
01:07:42
Speaker
And it doesn't only go for your monster truck shows. It goes for anybody that's involved in putting on a motorsports show, getting the people, like you said. oh Zipheus, I am going to be 100% real quick.
01:07:57
Speaker
Flow Racing has ruined. Motorsports. I'm sorry. There may be people that disagree, but it's taking away the feeling of of people going to these races.
01:08:09
Speaker
I mean, it's I'm doing I'm going to show a picture on my camera real quick. I don't know if everybody will be able to see it clearly. So last year, Miami, Oklahoma, this was Friday morning, 845 in the morning.
01:08:24
Speaker
You're doing a great job. I appreciate that, Lee.
01:08:29
Speaker
8.45 in the morning. We have a show about 11 hours later. This is what we walk into. It rained all night long. we walk Oh, that's when it was a pond. That's when it made it a pond on the infield.
01:08:44
Speaker
It was a standing pond. we That was 11 hours before we had a show. I'm going to give credit where credit is due.
01:08:56
Speaker
The amount of hard work and preparation I watched from everybody there to get out and get that track to be show ready where these guys could come out and put on a great show.
01:09:09
Speaker
like it was impressive. We're sitting there pumping water out, running skid steers to push water out. the um The amount of hard work that like the crew that I am fortunate enough to be surrounded by puts in is absolutely amazing.
01:09:25
Speaker
You will never meet a group of people who will make you feel more like family than the guys that I work with. 100%. They are some of the best people on the planet. It ah goes for every one of them. That goes for Lee. That goes for Darren, John, Dylan, Caden...
01:09:44
Speaker
hunter uh eddie who comes out and helps us with junk cars that's all of them absolutely some of the best people on the planet they will they never be backing you up absolutely they will never put you in a position where you are uncomfortable They will always accommodate to help you if you are new to understand something. They are willing to teach you, help you learn. The amount of knowledge these guys have to pass on to other people is life-changing. I have learned some of the most and important things about putting on a show I have ever learned from all of them guys.
01:10:24
Speaker
And I have made it some absolutely amazing friends that I would not change the absolute world for. Somebody could offer me a million dollars a month for the rest of my life in exchange for I lose those friends and those people that I've met my life and I'm not giving those people up.
01:10:41
Speaker
No, I'm asking you meeting a good people. Absolutely. Surrounding yourself with great people, that can change your life. And being around people that you like being around Like I have a group of friends with me and Nathan that we hang out every night. We'll talk monster jokes and all that. So it's like just getting around the right people in life can lead you to where you want to be.
01:11:04
Speaker
For sure. It'll push you to get better and push them to get better. Absolutely. That's the great thing with like my boss, Jan Darnell, is when he asks me to do something and do it, then he tells me to correct it.
01:11:15
Speaker
and he's And I may have to make three or four different changes to an ad, but he's doing it to see the best come out in me. And that is the absolute best thing you could ever ask for from a boss, is somebody to want to see the best come out in you.
01:11:29
Speaker
Yes, sir. And it's good and it's good to have... The constructive criticism that's not bewittling people like you see most of the time anymore.
01:11:42
Speaker
When you got the people, the supportive cast around you, to put they they want to be better, but they also want to see you be better. it's like those memes you see. a real leader is actually helping those behind them.
01:11:55
Speaker
And you're fortunate enough absolutely you have to have that. and everything else. And it's, and it's a, it's an honor because it's a rare thing with this day and day and time anymore.
01:12:06
Speaker
It is man. Absolutely. And that's the great thing about the bosses Matt motorsports. Yes, there is a boss, a big man, a head honcho, but at the end of the day, it feels like nobody is extremely in power and everybody is just there to help everybody and get whatever work needs to be done and all that.
01:12:29
Speaker
Let's hope we keep the rain away this year in Miami. Eight and a half hours in a skid steer is a lot. Oh, yeah. I'm fortunate enough I don't have to set in a skid steer for and a half hours, but I couldn't imagine setting in my and a skid steer for eight and a half hours.
01:12:44
Speaker
How you doing, Devin? I agree. Let's keep the rain away. Mr. Devin. What's up, buddy? Yep.
01:12:56
Speaker
But, yeah, man. I mean, it's โ oh, boy.
01:13:00
Speaker
There's Pat and the Garnells. The Garnells are good people. I agree. So I'm going to dig into this a little bit because I know we I only got like 10 minutes until we got an invite to send out.
01:13:11
Speaker
You're good. That entire family, the most down-to-earth people ever. So my first experience meeting them was I met John probably six or seven years ago.
01:13:27
Speaker
but He was the most nice, welcoming person ever. It was a short conversation because I wasn't working for him at the time, so he had other operations to get to, of course. It was a show day. I got to meet his brother, Chris Darnell. He was running the Shockwave jet truck.
01:13:44
Speaker
Unfortunately, he passed away a couple years ago to an accident with his jet truck.
01:13:53
Speaker
fortunate enough last year, Jamie Garner of the overboard monster truck comes in and he does a shockwave monster truck.
01:14:04
Speaker
I will find a picture of that short on screen real quick, right but to see somebody like that, there's some outpouring support for somebody who absolutely deserves everything in the world.
01:14:19
Speaker
yeah That being John Darnell and that the entire Matt Motorsports family in general for all being great people to see somebody go out and do a tribute truck to somebody who passed away out of our family.
01:14:31
Speaker
It was a tear jerking and just one of those like thank you for everything kind of moments. This is what that truck looked like. o That was got revealed.
01:14:45
Speaker
It was That was a tearjerker for sure. And to be able to now call myself a member of that like family of Matt Motorsports, it's an amazing feeling for sure. I never thought four or five years ago I would be in this position. it was always one of those like, well, maybe one day I can be a part of monster trucks. But in reality, I never thought I'd be able to be a part of it.
01:15:13
Speaker
But now that I'm sitting here, like I wake up every day and if I scroll through Facebook and I see like a video I post to get shared or something like that, like that means the world to me to see somebody, whether it's one of our own crew members or somebody I don't even know, sharing something that I made for other people to see.
01:15:34
Speaker
and It's a heart touching moment. like There's times where I find myself sitting here and I'm like, damn, like I'm really living out a dream right now. And it's all thanks to Darnell's family, him, his wife, absolutely amazing people.
01:15:51
Speaker
Well, and like you told me backstage when we were talking too, man, and then there the beginning of the show, you actually took a chance to do what you're doing now.
01:16:03
Speaker
and it Absolutely. And your your family, You got an extended family now, um which is awesome to have because like we were talking, you know, being surrounded by good people.
01:16:17
Speaker
But when you can instead of just only calling them friends, you can actually say family. that that's That's a true honor in itself to be able to look at somebody and go and look at them like they're family, not ah just a friend. It's family.
01:16:33
Speaker
Absolutely. And that's the best thing you could ever ask for working for somebody, just to have somebody that you can look at and they feel like they are a member of your family. For sure.
01:16:45
Speaker
Definitely. Makes you feel good. Yeah, man. and just don't And don't worry, Morgan. Anytime I see anything new yours, it is going to be thrown all over social medias, on the network, on my personal page, and everything else, man.
01:17:01
Speaker
yeah that's mine as well I appreciate that. yeah No problem, man.
01:17:11
Speaker
I have to bounce. Please get a hold of me. It would be fun to share some stories with you all. Lee, I appreciate you coming in here and hanging out. Yes, Lee, thank you very much. But I definitely will get a hold of you so i can get you and Morgan both up here together.
01:17:26
Speaker
I cannot wait. This will be um maybe another awesome show. It'll be pleasure have you on. Buddy, I will see you in a few weeks here in Miami. Appreciate you. Love you, buddy.
01:17:37
Speaker
Yeah, man. I don't know if you've just seen my message in the studio, but if you could ah just type a message in there whenever. That would be appreciated.
01:17:50
Speaker
Whenever that happens. But ah yeah, so back to the Darnell family. I had the luxury of I got to meet Chris. That is who the man is in the bottom picture of the advertisement that you posted.
01:18:04
Speaker
I talked to Chris. i Originally, I was going to the bathroom to take a leak as a fan. And I'm like, I got a pee. There's mile long line to the porta potty.
01:18:15
Speaker
And I see Chris standing in front of his jet truck and i nobody's standing there. And I take the opportunity and I go over to talk to I'm like, look, man, this is like, this is where I belong. i belong in this industry.
01:18:29
Speaker
Like, man. This is what I have a passion for. I've worked fast food, this, this, and this. None of it makes me happy. But the second I'm hanging out with people who do monster trucks or stuff like that, it's like, I'm happy. I'm happy as a human being.
01:18:46
Speaker
Do you have any advice for me? It was like the best advice I ever got told was just shoot for the stars. Take that chance, message whoever it is you want to try to work for. And then whatever happens, happens. You'll either get told, no, I don't need any help right now, or you'll get sold, hey, could you try doing this, this and this for me?
01:19:08
Speaker
And then I talked to multiple people about it. I reached out to people on Facebook. things like that. And I got told the same thing by every one of them. It was like, just ask. All you'll get told is no, you'll never get told anything else other than a yes or no.
01:19:24
Speaker
Well, yeah. you don't ask, you'll never know. Exactly. And lo and behold, for me, a guy whose shows I've been going to since 2006 was doing everything kind of by himself.
01:19:40
Speaker
It allowed me this opportunity and I wouldn't change it for the world. Absolutely nothing. Yeah. hey You got, your're part you're part of history.
01:19:56
Speaker
And it continues building. I mean, especially with the show coming up there, you're getting ready for it. I mean, here it at speaks volumes. And that's the thing, too, is, like, people always ask me, like, what's it like being a part of putting on this event?
01:20:15
Speaker
And it's like, okay, like, yeah, it's cool. I'm helping put on one of the biggest independent monster truck shows on the planet. But at the end of the day, you know what matters more to me is the fact that I get to go out for a week and hang out with people that I absolutely love being around and all of that.
01:20:37
Speaker
That's what matters most to me is being around people I love. At the end of the day, we're putting on a show. We're making new fans, keeping old fans entertained, all of that. you ready but You ready, Mr. Morgan? we We have our very first guests down here getting ready. I'm going to bring them up, and you can introduce them.
01:20:57
Speaker
Okay, yeah. Go ahead. Bring them up.
01:21:02
Speaker
All right, everybody, I would like to introduce you all to Alec White. This is the driver of Bad Decision. He will be competing for us at the 45th anniversary Miami Oklahoma Monster Truck event, as well as he is competing for us at Springfield Raceway and ran with us just a few weeks ago in Springfield.
01:21:22
Speaker
Alec, how are we doing? Good for you, Hunter. You guys. Good, man. Doing good, man. Thank you for coming up here with Morgan tonight and stuff, man. I really appreciate it.
Competitive Spirit and Challenges
01:21:33
Speaker
Good to hear from you
01:21:37
Speaker
So my first question for you, because I'm not going to take up too much of their time because I know they have stuff to ask for you, is what is it like to know that the upcoming show you're competing is the 45th anniversary of Miami, Oklahoma? And what is it going to be like competing against 13 of the top trucks in the country?
01:21:56
Speaker
I mean, it's pretty cool. You know, I've been going there since I was a kid. I mean, that was my first monster cut shot I've ever been to. So being able to compete there, it's almost like a dream, really.
01:22:12
Speaker
And competing against the talent that comes in there, I mean, that's the top trucks in the nation coming out there. So definitely hard to get some wins there, but given a shot It's a real good time.
01:22:28
Speaker
You were able to capture some wins a few, about two months ago, actually, in Springfield. Let's recap a little bit on that. So in Odessa, you unveiled the new Cat Eye Purple Bad Decision body. It looked pretty good after that show.
01:22:44
Speaker
And then we were roll into Springfield. You do pretty good Friday night. And then Saturday, that body wasn't looking so new after skills. Let's talk a little bit about that, what happened there.
01:22:57
Speaker
And then that spring filter was something different for me. That was a lot tackier than lot of the stuff I'm usually used to. like that's where It got me twice there, obviously.
01:23:11
Speaker
But it was fun. almost Almost pulled off a good save. First year, I promise I'm going start that up. And all in all, mean, it was a great weekend after the racing land.
01:23:25
Speaker
They're pretty good in skill and okay in freestyle. And the truck, though, was self-inviterally, so I can't complain too much. That was a pretty big racing one for you to get, too, because you knocked off ah Basil, who had swept our entire racing season so far. So that had to feel pretty good for you to get. Yeah, me and him have raced several times, and it's always a good.
01:23:50
Speaker
So what can we expect out of you at the upcoming event in Miami-Oklahoma this year? Well, I'm just going to go out there and give it shot, see what we can do.
01:24:04
Speaker
See if maybe we can bring home a win from there. That would be what I really want. That's all I'm going to say. on
01:24:20
Speaker
I guess we'll see what happens after we have good weekend and see what we can do Is there any chance we get an impromptu bad decision backflip? We'll see.
01:24:32
Speaker
yeah I'm going to give the floor to them two to ask you any questions and I'm going to hang back. Go ahead, Johnny. You go first, buddy.
01:24:45
Speaker
Good, man. Well, I... What's the excitement like, man? I bet there's there's some enthusiasm going on going up against this many people. yeah. I mean, you know, this is my, this will be, I think, the seventh year doing that show.
01:25:06
Speaker
It's definitely a place to be very, very good. was actually, when I did that in 2019, it was actually a very quick show. I never even joined.
01:25:25
Speaker
yeah no it's it's very exciting it's just as exciting you watch you never you can see from all Oh, for sure.
01:25:42
Speaker
So my only question I have for you, do you get butterflies every time you strap into the seat before a race?
01:25:55
Speaker
Like your nerves, you kind of get a little nervous every time, even though even though it's kind of like a regular thing for you, but do still get kind of that nerve, the adrenaline gets flowing and stuff for you? It and of just depends on the mood, really. Depends on the mood, depends on the track.
01:26:13
Speaker
Depends on who I'm going against. All that kind of thing. But yes, it's still a lot of times, usually, usually at least happens once weekend, you know, or if I get in one of those moves, you know, I don't even know what I'm going to do before go out there. It's, you know, I'm just going to go, well, that seems to be when the best things happen.
01:26:37
Speaker
But yes, that's still good.
01:26:43
Speaker
Heck man, that's awesome. Got two guys up here on two guys up here on the show living out their dreams, man. this is this is This is sweet to hear the stories and stuff from both of you. I mean, the one on the one from the driver's seat side of the aspect and then the one from behind the scenes and doing all this, you know, helping them get help with the promotions of the shows and everything.
01:27:06
Speaker
But to to get the experience to share this, you know, this platform with you guys is awesome. Yeah, very. When Morgan told me, Alec, you were kind was gonna be coming up, I told you're first.
01:27:21
Speaker
i've I've talked to some monster truck drivers, you know, for a brief second. And I've been doing this show be this October two years. But to have somebody your caliber to come up on my show, I'll be honest with you, I'm like a little school kid. It's it's exciting to have somebody that, you know, competes on competes on what you do in the monster truck world. Because, I mean...
01:27:44
Speaker
other than the um Monster Jam and stuff like that. But to do what you're doing on the independent circuit with what you guys do, as as ah I applaud you guys. I mean, you if you're the show for us fans.
01:28:00
Speaker
Yes, sir. So I got a little fun backstory is I actually watched Alex dad drive at my first show. I ever went to his dad was competing in brute force with the straight Brown body with the silver logo on the side. That was the absolute. Yeah. I remember that. I got the watch.
01:28:23
Speaker
Nice. so I actually have the, I actually have the die cast still of that truck. die I watched Alex. I'm going to have to get the address and send it out and get it signed.
01:28:38
Speaker
but but but ah Yeah. So to sit here and to watch you, Alec, your first show, you it was with us. And to see you now, the progression you've made, you're doing a great job. You're killing it. I know you've been doing, you did some stuff with Caden and the Insanity Tour and all that. So you're doing a great job, buddy. Keep it up.
01:28:58
Speaker
Thank you, man. Thank you, man. You guys got any more questions for Alec? Honestly, i i I'm to be straight and honest. I'm kind of speechless. We'll just leave it at that. I mean, the only thing I had was I could think of was the whole butterfly thing. I mean, to to have like I said, to have this the way it is.
01:29:19
Speaker
um Besides the show coming up, what's actually do? What is your goal for this year? Racing. Racing.
01:29:29
Speaker
for your for you for racing for 2026 bud as in like what do i want to accomplish racing this year your achievements for the year pretty yeah pretty much accomplished uh well
01:29:49
Speaker
not pull a springfield not pull a springfield yeah well can get that
01:29:59
Speaker
Yeah, we don't want to do that again. But, you know, don't know. Just run the best I can for a year.
01:30:12
Speaker
Try to do it without breaking so much stuff. you know There's always up and down years. I've had a lot of those. Oh, yeah. It's always fun.
01:30:26
Speaker
And hopefully, Maybe by the end of the year, get started on the second drop. We'll just see where it happens.
01:30:39
Speaker
Nice. Well, Alec, I appreciate you taking the time out your night. I know you've got a lot of stuff going on, so I appreciate you taking time to come on and talk to me and them, too. Yes, thank you.
01:30:50
Speaker
I will see you in a few weeks. All right, man. See you guys. Thank you. Thank you, buddy. Thank you. Have a good one, man. Good luck this season. Yeah, good luck.
01:31:05
Speaker
Ladies and gentlemen, that was Alec White, driver of the Bad Decision. You can find him on facebook.com slash baddecisionmonstertruck. You will be able to catch him in the Miami, Oklahoma, as well as Springfield Raceway events that we will be putting on here soon.
01:31:24
Speaker
dude Thank you, Morgan, so much for that, man. That was fucking awesome. and i did the And then to actually find out that I have his father's actual truck with the silver thing logo on the side of it, that makes it even more special. Now now I got to go get a case for that truck so it doesn't sit and collect dust. Hell yeah, man.
01:31:51
Speaker
Yeah, i that's a crazy thing for me is that his dad was the first truck I ever got to watch as a kid. and then now I'm sitting here and I'm putting on shows and doing stuff like that with him.
01:32:06
Speaker
So it's crazy. That is that is fucking awesome. yeah Yeah, that is f freaking that'sricking awesome though, man. out That is fucking cool as hell. Absolutely.
01:32:20
Speaker
So here soon, going to make this announcement here in about 15, 20 minutes. We will have Pat Pooley jo joining us to talk about trucks with Miami and all that.
01:32:33
Speaker
yeah i'm I'm pretty excited about that. I would like to open up questions to anybody in the chat if anybody has any questions as well as you guys. I'm kind of an open book right now, monster truck wise. So...
01:32:49
Speaker
except for yeah Except for the thing we talked about in the backstage. good Yeah, we'll leave that alone. Mike, other question for... with the mo with With what you're doing monster truck-wise, besides for... um Is there a particular driver and monster truck out there that you would like to honestly...
01:33:16
Speaker
shoot pictures with or in videos of that you didn't get to see other than when you were a kid
01:33:31
Speaker
independent wise, like guys who are not contracted with Feld and monster jam. I off the top of my head. No, because I've had the fortune. I have seen like all the big guys drive.
01:33:47
Speaker
or I've done shows with them, things like that. If we're going to go a failed slash Monster Jam route, it would have to be Ryan Anderson. 100%. Either Ryan Anderson or Camden Murphy. Them two, yeah.
01:34:07
Speaker
Those probably my two favorite Monster Jam drivers, but I don't get to watch a lot of Monster Jam nowadays. like I'll watch highlights and things like that. But those are probably the two big ones.
01:34:19
Speaker
I'll tell you what. Watching Ryan Anderson's Facebook page and some of the stuff he posts with his kids, he's just a giant kid himself. The stuff he does with his family. I mean, dude, he is a riot watching the stuff he does. It's just โ it's like us except โ he if He's fortunate enough that his dad's, of course, the man, the myth, the legend, Dennis Anderson, and gets to live the dream carrying that on So, I mean, but to see him doing what he does with his family is fucking amazing on social media.
01:34:54
Speaker
Indeed. That is how the whole Weston Anderson driving Kingsling in Miami thing came about. Originally, it was going to be Dennis Anderson in 2019 driving Kingsling.
01:35:06
Speaker
Dennis got hurt. So the next best option was his kid. Weston comes in. I got the fortune to be able to go to a casino about five minutes away.
01:35:18
Speaker
And I got to meet both of them at a meet and greet. and when I tell you that they are two people who you could literally sit and talk to for like 24 hours continuously, those are two people you could sit and talk to forever.
01:35:32
Speaker
And the fact that I get to say... Go ahead. You're good. No, you're fine. and i was going to say you're living living the dream, man. you' You're getting to see the next generation of the Anderson family, and you got got to hang out with them.
01:35:50
Speaker
I mean, not many people get to say that. Absolutely. And to be able to watch Weston Anderson drive Kingsling, like, that dude drives hard.
01:36:03
Speaker
he is He's crazy I watched that dude barrel roll that truck About 8 times at Mid-America Outdoors A few years ago Set in a world record so Really?
01:36:16
Speaker
Yeah he he laid down a hell of freestyle After setting down the world record He barrel rolled that son of bitch 8 times on his last shot Yeah I remember i remember when Dennis Anderson debuted Kingsling He actually came to a town that used to hold a mud runs and stuff on here in Ohio.
01:36:38
Speaker
He debuted it here in Ohio at one of them. And dude, I didn't, I didn't get to go see it personally, but the videos I seen posted of it, that truck. the Yeah. It's, it's insane. It's, it it is. And then Weston driving now doing his thing with the Megas.
01:36:58
Speaker
no I tell you what, that kid is, he's fearless. He literally is. Absolutely, and the thing that's great about it is Dennis is now driving the Extreme Kingsling every now and then, so he's still involved in some capacity.
01:37:14
Speaker
So all around, it's just great. like I would love to go out and ride around in that truck with Dennis Anderson one time. I think that would be a good experience. I think all three of us would love to have that experience to go get to do that. Oh, man, that'd be great.
01:37:29
Speaker
Anybody who's a Boston fan would love that. Yep. Well, and it was cool. And of course, this past Monday, having who I had on to actually the races at Dennis Anderson's, you know, gets to race at Dennis Anderson's show in the spring and in the fall and during his North versus South deal.
01:37:54
Speaker
It's just phenomenal to be getting connected with that community of one of my idols in the monster truck world. yeah absolutely It's freaking awesome. 100% it is. Getting to meet people. So for me, from a...
01:38:15
Speaker
You hit the button. You barely got the button that time. I barely tapped that. I didn't even realize it. So for me, from a perspective, like, I get to meet some of the people that I'd grown up watching on TV and things like that. And really that's...
01:38:35
Speaker
It still blows my mind every time I end up on a show for us that I'm getting the luxury to watch and witness some of the things that some of these people are doing. Because at the end of the day, we're still fans. Like Trip Jones, that kid went out and freestyle in Wilson Logistics Arena in Springfield, Missouri for us.
01:38:57
Speaker
And he comes out, bicycles to moonwalk, turns around, comes around a corner, sidewalls the truck, most complete composure I've ever seen. i have onboard GoPro footage of that because I bought a GoPro for that.
01:39:11
Speaker
And the amount of calmness I see out of that kid to be able to just see people come out and do things like that. You can't help whether you're a fan or a official or just somebody involved.
01:39:24
Speaker
You can't help but cheer like you're a fan because it's like, holy shit, that was fucking cool. Like yeah we got our guys. We're constantly cheering these guys. Like when Trip did that, we had a couple of our guys that were sitting on the sidelines said Dylan and Caden, two amazing guys there. They were cheering, throwing fist up in the air. Like, hell yeah. I was going hell yeah. Like at the end of the day, we're all still rooting for these guys. We're not picking favorites or anything like that, but it's like, right. Okay. Somebody did something cool as shit at our show. It's like, hell yeah, dude. Like,
01:40:01
Speaker
you rob It goes into showing you two reasons for your passion. Exactly. on it's And it's neat too because you get to live it, see it breathe it, and then we get to see it after it's happened. You've already like, and you're still sitting there smiling like,
01:40:19
Speaker
i got to I videoed this. i I took pictures of this. I got to see it in person. so i mean exactly You get to see the enjoyment like multiple times, not just the when it happened, but over and over again because of the people you shared it with.
01:40:34
Speaker
on your socials or whatever. And then they're sharing it out to their friends, their family, whatever. So you besides you getting a smile from ear to ear doing the same thing, everybody else is getting to enjoy it as well. So, I mean, it's it's a win-win for everybody on that situation. And that's how it was when he did the side double sidewall save because I was on a headset and I was like, holy fucking shit, I just got that on a GoPro onboard footage. That's going to be sick. So, like...
01:41:04
Speaker
really yeah with that I have a reel that will be coming out for the Miami Oklahoma event here soon. I'm not going to spoil what it is, but it is for Tripp.
01:41:16
Speaker
and It involves him and his dad. i'm not going to see what it is or anything like that. Tune in a week before the show.
01:41:27
Speaker
yeah Probably about a couple weeks before. it is one of the most down to earth. like It holds sentimental value to me to do something like for these two people.
01:41:39
Speaker
That have absolutely been down to earth for me. They were willing to let me do behind the scenes footage for them and shoot stuff for them and all of that. To be able to go out and then add on to that and do something that I did for them, it was this reel is going to touch a lot of people.
01:41:58
Speaker
That's for sure. i can't I can't wait
Mentors and Networking
01:42:00
Speaker
to see it, man. I'm excited to see it. Now now you got me anxious. It's like hurry up time so we can see it. It should be out here in a couple weeks. yeah i'm I'm excited for it.
01:42:15
Speaker
I'll end up sharing it on my personal page so anybody who wants to see it can see it because I don't think it'll be viewable in all markets, but Anybody who wants to see it, just check out my page and I'll have it shared. because it was pretty and And you'll hear it first here. i will make sure it hits all the nonsensical network and my social media pages when it does get released so everybody can see it. We'll make sure it gets out for Morgan and stuff and Matt Motorsports and the Joneses.
01:42:46
Speaker
So either way, it's going to it's gonna hit everybody not only on just your page, man. I'll make sure it gets โ It gets shared out so everybody gets to see it. so here Absolutely. I appreciate that.
01:42:58
Speaker
Sorry. and i am sending a link out. You're good. and I'll let you know when he comes up. so And this is another one that I'm excited to to get up here instead of having a conversation with him through the chat.
01:43:15
Speaker
I'm looking forward to this. Yeah, man. oh this is he hit Him in my eyes being in the tough truck world and only you know through the social media platforms, I'll be honest, and he can yell at me when he gets up here.
01:43:34
Speaker
But he's one of the โ I'll tell it now. He's a legend of the of the truck tough truck world. I mean, for him to be doing what he's doing at his age. And I told Morgan earlier.
01:43:48
Speaker
He set the bar for everybody that races rough trucks, man, and and gro races tough trucks. Still out here, almost 70 years old, giving it his all and having fun while he's doing it really raises the bar for everybody. So don't let anybody tell you when you're almost 70 years old, you can't do something unless you're in a wheelchair or crippled. This man's living proof of it. yeah Well, hey, even then, with enough willpower, you can get right back up and do it again.
01:44:16
Speaker
Yes, sir. Don't let anybody ever tell you your age or anything is going to stop you from being able to chase a dream because I'm here to tell you now that's bullshit and you can do anything you want to do.
01:44:28
Speaker
Yes, sir. yeahp Even if you have to fly solo and start hurt over with people, find the right people. and Some of us have been fortunate. We've got the right people pushing us in the direction we need to go for what we want to do. so and That's how it was for me. I was...
01:44:47
Speaker
When I was in school, I was hanging out with the wrong group of people. it and I got out of school, i got a job, and then I started connecting with people that I know now in the monster dark world.
01:44:59
Speaker
And it's it's helped shaped me as a human being to be able to do what I am doing now. Well, and the thing of it is, it's it's great to do. And i honestly...
01:45:13
Speaker
For this, doing this podcasting thing, if I wouldn't have taken a chance and my friend, best friend had this platform and deciding to do something like this, me and you wouldn't be having this conversation right now. I would have never got to meet Alec.
01:45:26
Speaker
I wouldn't be able to have the guests I've had up on the show other than hanging out with them, you know, my local rough truck guys and these other other people. Um, But this gives me a chance to reach the world doing this and sharing my passion for what I love, and which is is the motorsports. So, I mean, and I get to share it with everybody.
01:45:47
Speaker
Absolutely. And I'm the same boy. Like, I wouldn't have the luxury to meet the people I've met if it wasn't for guys like John and all of them who've got me into the door and all that.
01:45:58
Speaker
Yes, sir. So yeah, you can literally say you kick the door open and instead of just sticking your foot in it's it's officially been kicked open for you for what you do it's I Think I kicked that son of a bitch off its hinges by now. So yeah, there's definitely i will hundred percent There's no get there's no just kicking it it went flying yeah i don't I don't think there's much of a doorless you But yeah, it's it's it's sweet to get that and get to see
01:46:30
Speaker
And with doing this, getting to see the sides of everybody's, you know, their stories and histories behind things. Like Johnny, for instance, the gentleman has his own YouTube channel.
01:46:43
Speaker
Met him through the Saturday show. One day I happened to go, by the way, guys, welcome my new co-host, john and Johnny. And he's like he kind of gave me this look like, what? And he's been here with me for a while. yeah And I'm really enjoying himself. So, I mean, it's privilege to have him as well.
01:47:00
Speaker
I mean, become good friends just because of doing the shows. Here's my thing, while we're waiting on Pat to get in here, is why the hell are you wearing a Buffalo Bills hat? Not only are you my enemy, you're my boss's enemy because he's a Chiefs fan. So everybody I know enemy plus mine. oh I'm their enemy for being a Broncos fan. Oh, boy.
01:47:27
Speaker
oh boy The vicious circle. Here we go. Yeah, You better put that away before my boss. love I love it. And I'm, of course, the...
01:47:39
Speaker
yeah yeah i love it i love and and i'm of course the ah um the I'm the laughingstock. It's always going to be next year. But I got bragging rights. I have the number one sack leader in the NFL on my team, which is the Browns. But other that, that's all I can say.
01:48:02
Speaker
but Thank God for Miles Garrett. I'm sorry. Yeah.
01:48:08
Speaker
yeah yeah So now picture that as football fans. I'm doing shows every couple of months with a bunch of Kansas City fans. Imagine the amount of shit I get being a Broncos fan. Oh, God. can only imagine. Being in the same division and stuff. Oh, boy.
01:48:27
Speaker
We're called donkeys by them for a reason. Oh. Oh. You poor soul being surrounded and being the only Broncos fan. That's not good.
01:48:41
Speaker
Hey, it's worth it to be around people I get to be around. They have their good moments. Everybody. That's the bonus right there, man. it Outside of the sports teams, it's the bonus is getting to do what you do. so Oh, absolutely.
01:48:59
Speaker
Did he join yet? he hasn't. no he has it
01:49:13
Speaker

01:50:59
Speaker
and Yeah, I sent the post for it. Yep. And on top of that, you get to see 14 of the top trucks in the country. Six new trucks coming to compete against eight veterans here.
01:51:13
Speaker
One of those being Alec White, who we just had on the show not too long ago. And the fun part is you can take a ride on the Mighty Monster Bus. $15 per person at the truck and you can get a ride. oh that'd be fun.
01:51:27
Speaker
Yeah, can man. Absolutely. It's a great time. So that show is exactly 35 days away. i And anybody who is closer to Springfield that wants to come out, we will also be at Springfield Raceway.
01:51:45
Speaker
the weekend after which i believe is june 12th and 13th so yes i'm out for that they're racing seven monster trucks the lineup for that show i am going to announce is jamie garner with overboard zach garner with wild side tim jones and tailgater trip jones and twisted addiction devin jones with crush a roo alec white with bad decision and mike sofa and elder abuse that's how line's nice why not
01:52:21
Speaker
There will unfortunately be no tough trucks at that event, but you get dirt racing. So in a pit party. So come on out, bring a family, bring a friends. It's all around a great time.
01:52:32
Speaker
Family friend or family fun.
01:52:37
Speaker
Yeah, it's all around family fun. There's my words. There you go. Yeah. English isn't my first language. Just ask my boss. I have 70,000 grammar emails to correct.
01:52:51
Speaker
as As we say on our Saturday night here on the network, words are hard. That's one of our quotes. Words are hard. They are very hard.
01:53:05
Speaker
repeat so we're in about seven minutes. We should.
01:53:12
Speaker
ah no You did it again. You're tired. I'm taking you off the show. ya.
01:53:20
Speaker
Well, I made it an hour and 53 minutes. That was longer than my friends thought I was going to make it, so I'm impressed.
01:53:28
Speaker
Got a mind of its own, man. That's the bad part about having one of those mic the buttons that is all you've got to do is barely brush it and it shuts it off. Exactly. like All I've got to do Literally this corner here and it's off.
01:53:46
Speaker
So while I have a... There you go. Button.
01:53:55
Speaker
yeah I'm going to retire after this.
01:54:01
Speaker
You can't until after Lee comes up with you. Then you can retire. I'll give it a little bit and then I'll retire. Let's talk about this piece of fiberglass here for a second.
01:54:13
Speaker
There you go. I've been waiting to hear about this. me i got gifted this by my boss. It is the Cabot Roof from the Shockwave monster truck that Jamie Garner ran last year.
01:54:30
Speaker
Nice. and There is only a probably a less than a handful of people that have a piece of this truck. You got the most important part.
01:54:42
Speaker
I got the part that hit the dirt when it rolled over. so there's still dirt spots on it and then stuff like that over here on these sides and all that. I don't think the camera picks it up. But unfortunately, Chris Darnell passed away in a jet truck accident in Battle Creek, Michigan.
01:54:58
Speaker
total yep was I remember the saddest things I've ever had to read. i was on a vacation with my family. We were in the middle of Albuquerque, New Mexico. and we see up my phone I have three text messages from three close friends. They're like, did you read what happened?
01:55:19
Speaker
Did you see what happened to Chris? And then something else that was like, have you checked the internet yet? I hadn't been i was spending time with family, so I had no clue. Yeah.
01:55:31
Speaker
I get on Facebook and the first thing I see is that. And I was speechless. I stepped away from my family dinner and all that. I just, I took some time to myself.
01:55:43
Speaker
I was fortunate enough to know the guy Nathan Hills, shout out to him, who made design for this truck. That is also one of my best friends on this entire planet.
01:55:56
Speaker
To be able to own a piece of a truck that he made, not only because he is one of my best friends, but because it was one ah for one of Motorsports best friends.
01:56:07
Speaker
That is an absolute honor to be able to have and to know that Jamie Garner and all of them were thoughtful enough to be like, hey, I want to do a truck. I want to run from my overboard name and do a shockwave overboard monster truck one night or one weekend only.
01:56:28
Speaker
That is something that all of us will appreciate for the absolute rest of our lives for sure. It will be something we will never forget about. Oh, definitely, man. And by the way, you get the fun thing here in a minute when you're done. Our buddies, good old Pat's here.
01:56:46
Speaker
mean These flags, paddle wrecking. Tough truck drivers ran these flags on their truck one year. And so I got the flag to go with it.
01:57:00
Speaker
It actually sits over in that corner of my room. The flag drapes over the fiberglass. So it's a pretty cool thing to have to remember i to remember him. Hashtag live like Chris. Absolutely.
01:57:15
Speaker
And now we have the goat and a legend Pat Pooley joining us. Hi, Pat. Nice to finally get to see you other than having in a chat. Yeah, I finally figured out how to get on.
01:57:29
Speaker
yeah How you doing, Pat? I'm not technically savage. Oh, no, you're good, buddy.
01:57:39
Speaker
but I helped you out. You're good, man.
01:57:44
Speaker
So, Pat. I'm going to ask the first question and then I'll let them ask some. Okay. My MO Oklahoma 45th anniversary coming up. You've been a part of my MO Oklahoma ever since tough trucks were kind of introduced here. What has it been like for you running here? And then what is it like knowing we are coming up on a 45th anniversary event?
01:58:08
Speaker
Well, I mean, we, my uh departed boss is actually a darnell and he's uh neil's cousin and we started helping when he brought in the track book truck and tractor pulls we go out help put on the show or you know i ran pull off tractors and uh the the blades smooth them out you know we've done did quite a bit
01:58:41
Speaker
And one year he brought in a couple of tough trucks from New Mexico. And we go, Ooh, that looks like fun. And ah they started out with a couple of dots and pickups and it's kind of went downhill from there. But ah it' it's been a blast. It really has. I mean, we've, we've,
01:59:10
Speaker
once we started running them i mean we quit helping so much only we do help out before the shows and stuff you know during the week and so but uh yeah it's been a blast doesn't seem like it's been that long but some ways but yeah it's all
01:59:34
Speaker
You're going out each and every weekend and throwing down with the absolute best of them. What is it like to be racing against people who probably looked up to you and are the reason they are now involved in tough truck racing?
01:59:50
Speaker
It's kind of strange because I still get people come up to me and say, i remember watching you as a kid. and Oh man, that makes me feel old.
02:00:02
Speaker
that's how was It is kind of an honor in a way that people do recognize that have been in there and say I'm kind of an inspiration to some of them.
02:00:19
Speaker
I never set out to be any kind of role model or anything like that. I'm just out there youre having fun. Absolutely. You were one of the first tough truck races I ever watched. So that was 06.
02:00:32
Speaker
oh six That was my first time seeing tough trucks. yeah I remember watching you and the barefoot truck and the old Thunderstruck and all of them. So it's been a while. And now to be able to sit here alongside of you and now I'm sitting here helping John output shows on and you're involved in all that still. It's pretty cool to be able to sit here and work alongside of you and away. So.
02:00:58
Speaker
buts i mean it's It's kind of past a year or so since Steve's been gone. It's changed quite a bit on a lot of stuff. but and it's a The godfather of tough trucks for a reason.
02:01:17
Speaker
Yeah, he was kind of special. Oh, yeah. He would go out and he would run hard, though. He'd he make you earn it. Oh, you ah If you were lined up across from him, he wasn't getting by very easily unless if something broke on him and he couldn't run. so Yeah.
02:01:37
Speaker
i will ah I'm now going to allow them to ask you a couple of questions if they have any. so Sure. So my first question for you, Pat, besides welcome welcome to the show, other than being in the chatterbox and I want to thank you for being a supporter of my show.
02:01:55
Speaker
I appreciate it. No problem. I enjoy it. good I'm glad. I appreciate that. I'm not really this comfortable being in front of the camera. So one of the things I'm asking, what's the secret to keep doing what you've been doing for all these years running Pro Tough Truck?
02:02:19
Speaker
would say not being too bright, ah but it's a little hard on you. Yeah. Oh, yeah, I agree. But I, like I said, I'm out here having fun. And I mean, that's my biggest thing is ah I'm not super competitive like some of the other ones.
02:02:42
Speaker
I do want to win, yes. But I'm just out here playing. I can beat somebody, that's great. If I get beat, that's fine too. I don't get upset about it.
02:02:57
Speaker
oh yes Yeah. like ah Like I've made, you probably heard me many a times. You've set the standard for for anybody out there in the motorsports world, including the the rough the tough truck world. I mean,
02:03:13
Speaker
69 years old, still out there competing with everybody. And you're like, like Morgan said, you do run against the the best in the country where you run tough trucks out there, you know, being out in Oklahoma, Missouri and everything.
02:03:27
Speaker
it It really sets the bar high and makes it ah an achievable thing for for everybody, including myself and fans and everything else to continue to doing what you love
Tough Truck Innovation
02:03:40
Speaker
in the motor sports world. I mean,
02:03:42
Speaker
It's awesome to see that. i I mean, this is kind of a big family. I mean, everybody, most everybody gets along really great.
02:03:53
Speaker
We help each other out when needed. of i mean, this, I wouldn't trade for anything, really. i met some i met some I'm fortunate to have a very tight-knit group here in Ohio. And, of course, you've seen the majority of them I've had on the show as guests. that you know and they are And it is in you are right. it is It is a giant family, especially um and you again you do have a few that are you kind of want to smack around sometimes. But, I mean, other than that, yeah, everybody's willing to help everybody. yeah
02:04:26
Speaker
It's awesome to see that stuff. yeah I watch a lot of videos from races there and West Coast.
02:04:35
Speaker
Larry McCormick's got a hell of a heba series out there out west that he does out in California. I follow a lot of his stuff when I can. i mean hey yeah so yeah I love sitting here watching videos from other places.
02:04:50
Speaker
like i look well Like I've said before and like I told Morgan, I said it'd be awesome to be able to get a East Coast, Midwest, West Coast meet somewhere in the middle with the Pro Tough trucks to find out actually who's the best. And then Morgan came up with the best idea. Have each truck have a three three line up against each other, three different sections, and race to see who's the best out of the whole group that shows up.
02:05:16
Speaker
yeah I think that's cool. I mean, I'll be the person admit my truck is not the fastest. But it is ah reliable, fairly consistent, as long as I get my right my right foot right.
02:05:33
Speaker
The biggest problem I have is my driver. um But, yeah, it's it'd be fun. really would.
02:05:44
Speaker
well and and Going to that aspect, I mean, I've seen the videos of the different races, everything else I've seen you race.
02:05:55
Speaker
Personally, the guys I have said here, here in Ohio, sometimes it isn't always the fastest guy. Like you said, isn't the fastest guy. It's the most, consistent fastest truck. It's the most consistent setup and everything. And, and it takes the driver to do it. That usually ends up winning most of the races. I mean, it's a,
02:06:13
Speaker
It's a consistency all across the board. It ain't just go out and I'm going to buy the fastest or what I think is the fastest truck out here and then go try to win races. If if you can't drive the fastest truck, it's pointless.
02:06:26
Speaker
Yeah. a ah I mean, mine, um we originally built a truck and Steve Barnes drove it for several years and he wanted to build his own.
02:06:41
Speaker
So I took it over around 03 and just keep making little changes to it all the time. but go it's It's been a really good truck to me. It really has been over five times in it, broke the wheels off several times.
02:07:04
Speaker
Still back together and still racing it. Yep. At 69 years old, folks, this gentleman has been is still out there competing with us young bucks.
02:07:15
Speaker
So, I mean, that says a lot. The race in Springfield, August 1st, that'll be my birthday.
02:07:24
Speaker
Well, hopefully you can come home with a win that night on top of celebrating your birthday that night. That would be awesome, man. I've never had very good luck at Springfield.
02:07:37
Speaker
But you never know. You never what know. What's the saying? A blind squirrel can find a nut every now and then? Yeah. do it yep please Biggest thing is never give up.
02:07:53
Speaker
Morgan, you're being called out. You need to talk to the boss, man. get Get some fireworks for that. Hey, listen, don't give me any ideas. i come up with a lot of shitty ideas, but I come up with a lot of great ideas as well. So don't give me any ideas out here. That idea would be awesome right there. especially for an intro and stuff for him on his birthday and everything. Get a little pyro action going on as he comes onto the track.
02:08:21
Speaker
Yeah, let's just run the race and have fun. Exactly. That's all it's all about. I'll i'll do something.
02:08:32
Speaker
I'm creative. ill I'll think of something. I don't know. mr yeah yeah sun I don't know how much you get to watch when you're sitting there in the pits.
02:08:47
Speaker
How has it been to see the evolution of the monster truck side of what John's been putting on in Miami from when you started to what is going on now? Well, we really don't get see much.
02:09:02
Speaker
um i mean, during the middle of it, i mean we're looking make sure we didn't break anything, this, that, and the other. So, I mean, sometimes we can see some of the yeah the freestyle at the end, but quite often we're still loading loading up and getting ready to leave.
02:09:22
Speaker
So we still don't get to see much of a show.
02:09:27
Speaker
is So what's it like to be โ oops, sorry. No, go ahead, buddy. true show So what's it like to honestly be part of something as big as that show show there? to run with these monster trucks and everything and especially with the history you have being at that fairgrounds?
02:09:46
Speaker
Well, it's in a way it's ah i you in a way you get used to all the people around ah and I realize you know from the outside it is a big deal.
02:10:08
Speaker
uh but when you're down inside and you're busy doing stuff it's almost not that big a deal i mean ah it's kind of sad to say that but you're you're busy thinking about you know what do i need to look over on the truck um so you don't always pay that much attention to yeah the other parts of it gotcha um
02:10:39
Speaker
It's kind of a double-edged sword. I mean, like I mentioned you before, i live and have lived on Route 66 pretty much my whole life.
02:10:51
Speaker
To me, it's just a road. A lot of people make you know fly over here and ride on it and this, and the other.
02:11:02
Speaker
And to me, I spend so much time on it. It's not that, you know it's just It's just second nature. it's just yeah just something common It's just something I've lived with all my life. So, I mean, it's it's always there. um it's i mean you you know It's almost sad.
02:11:31
Speaker
that kind of way it is i guess and it's and It's understandable. i mean, it's like he's yeah like we just we agreed on it. It becomes just, it's it it's a natural thing because you've been doing it for so so long and stuff. It'd be, it's like, oh, okay. Yeah. You guys are all excited because you get to, like you said, you're coming and flying out here, driving out here to go on. This is like, this is my everyday commute. It's nothing new to me. Yeah. In a way they carry tone on it because it's accepted as a part of your home. Yeah. Yeah.
02:12:04
Speaker
I mean, the shop that we worked at ah was on Main Street or main street Route 66. I mean, we'd stand out there and watch motorcycle groups go by and cars go by. Heck yeah. but that's all That's cool, though.
02:12:25
Speaker
We've had people stop in and ask for license plates.
02:12:30
Speaker
Really? Yeah. I know. I do.
02:12:35
Speaker
i'm gonna I'm going to ask you one last question, and it's gonna it's a it's a good one. and so You're obviously up there coming towards what is probably going to be the back half of your kind of racing career.
02:12:52
Speaker
Whenever you decide to call it quits, does the troubled name go with you?
02:13:01
Speaker
I don't know. i I mean, my youngest son has driven it several times.
02:13:13
Speaker
I don't know whether he would want to take it over. ah
02:13:23
Speaker
ah don't I never really thought of it.
02:13:28
Speaker
If you had to put some time on it, how much longer would you say you could probably go at this level for? i'm hoping for a couple more years um i mean i've had some health problems um
02:13:47
Speaker
they've the after the last uh stroke i had a hard time getting them to release me to drive get back to driving um but a lot of depends on how well healthy I stay but I'm hoping for at least couple more years
02:14:12
Speaker
Pat I appreciate you taking the time out of your evening to come on I know you're a little camera shy right now so but we appreciate it buddy I will personally see you I will personally see you here in a few weeks buddy if they have any more questions they can ask I got something I am doing right now so okay Actually, I appreciate it for all the support in the chat and everything else and definitely for coming up here tonight and stuff.
02:14:42
Speaker
I wish you the best of luck the rest the season for you and everything. um And once again, thank you for being a supporter and stuff of my show and everything. I really appreciate it. Thank you for having me. I enjoyed it.
02:14:55
Speaker
It's a great season. I enjoy doing what you love. I enjoy the show every week. I'm going to keep doing it as long as everybody keeps coming back and keeps watching, man. I'm going to keep plugging away at this. I'm enjoying i am joined doing this stuff.
02:15:08
Speaker
Good. All right, Pat. I appreciate you. Love you, buddy. I will see you here in a few weeks. Thank you for taking the time to come on. You're welcome. Have a good night, Pat. Thank you again, sir.
02:15:20
Speaker
Good to see you, Pat.
02:15:25
Speaker
Everybody, a living a living legend in the Tough Truck community, man. That that was awesome to have him up here on the show. yeah ready so I'm going to i'm goingnna be silent for a minute. I have something happening.
02:15:41
Speaker
for this show. I'm trying to get sorted out. I will let you two kind of chit chat. If you have any questions, ask me. I'm just going to be a little bit distracted. You're good, man. I know we're coming up on the end of the night.
02:15:54
Speaker
I got about 45 more minutes left in me, so I've got one more person I'm trying to get in here. so well Yeah, we'll get we'll get it going. and Yeah, because I got to go get my son from... actually got pick him up from work a little after 11, so it'll work out good.
02:16:14
Speaker
I do. Actually, while I wait on a response, I would like to give some shout outs while I have a chance, if I may. Go right ahead, buddy. You're more than welcome to. me Go for it. oh The first people I would like to give a shout out to is my mom and my dad.
02:16:29
Speaker
They have pushed me since I was a kid to be able to be the person that I am today. They have allowed me to pursue pursue my dreams.
02:16:40
Speaker
They've always told me anything you want to be, you can be when you grow up, as long as you fight for it. and behold, here I was. I took my shot. Now I'm here. these This is going to be an entire group of people I want to shout out. a So first off, I would like to start out with John Darnell and Rue Darnell.
02:17:03
Speaker
They're a husband and wife. They have given me the option and the ability to be able to join their family and be a part of what they do.
02:17:18
Speaker
So John got Matt Motorsports from his father and his father set the platform for guys like me to have a place for themselves.
02:17:29
Speaker
I would like to give a shout out to Dylan and Caden, two of our tech officials. Absolutely down to earth people. They have taught me so much that I know nowadays.
02:17:43
Speaker
i would like to give a shout out to. ah la who else do I have? ah Tim and Trip and Whitney. They have also helped me out.
02:17:54
Speaker
They've allowed me to do some work with them, some things. And I would also like to give a shout out to every single one the friends and family that have constantly inspired me to keep being a great human being for the last 25 years that I've had the luxury of being alive.
02:18:13
Speaker
Without any of these people who have given me the opportunity to do what I am now doing, i would probably not be where I am at right now. So just to be able to live out a dream is, it's pretty speech taking to say the least.
02:18:30
Speaker
it it is it its And it's awesome to get to see, see people doing that, man. It's getting to do what you want to do for your dream and everything else to see it for, and especially get to see it firsthand.
02:18:43
Speaker
It's having you up here on the show and getting to share it So, I mean, it's like I said before, it's a great honor to have that. Yes, sir. Absolutely. absolutely I will let you two chat for a second while I. no problem. Don't worry, man.
02:19:01
Speaker
I told you, Johnny, tonight was going to be a special night, and it's turned out to be one of the best nights, I think, so far that we've had. I mean, yes, we've had surprises with guests and stuff, but tonight, I think, so far, as this one's going to be a tough one to talk.
02:19:17
Speaker
Oh, for sure. I mean, I know I've said it a a lot through the past, but tonight is really one of those conversations where it's it's endearing seeing where you guys have where they've come, you know?
02:19:29
Speaker
Right. Yeah. And how they built themselves up. Dropped off. It'll be right. But, yeah, it it's it's come a long way. I mean, from where I started to be in the nervous train wreck to everything else
02:19:52
Speaker
and everything to come to where we are now to have what we've had. I mean, i've had I've had a four-time Grand National modified pulling truck champion on the show. I've had a few other people and everything else on the show. so now, and now adding, adding Morgan on here with Matt Motorsports. I mean, yeah this it's the show itself is come a long way from my stutter box and having somebody hold my hand for my like first, so first four or five shows to,
02:20:27
Speaker
having guests and the show. And then bringing you in along for the ride has opened your doors for you more, too. Yes, sir. So, I mean, it's really helped out.
02:20:42
Speaker
It's refreshing to see where things have come since, let's say, you know, where I came up with this, Wally, and how my family was involved in the the Fox stuff all the way back when. For motocross racing, yep. Yes, sir. it it feels good to see it's refreshing to see where things have progressed since then. yeah Like I told you, you come along for the ride, man, you're going to get a taste of all the motorsports world. And it ain't just, I'm not just one, one dimensional when it comes to stuff.
02:21:10
Speaker
Yeah. I may be involved in personally and in a one dimensional deal, but I like it all across the board. So, I mean, it's, it's nice to have that platform. That's part of the passion, you know? It it it extends to, okay, I get the same feel off of this. I love it just as much, you know?
02:21:26
Speaker
Mm-hmm. Yes, sir.
02:21:31
Speaker
if I would like to point out, if I can get this all figured out, we're going to end this show with a bang. Oh, boy. Yeah, man. It's going to but I'm trying to get this to work correctly, so...
02:21:48
Speaker
You're good, man. but yes she's got You've got to ask a lot of questions. Johnny, do you have any questions for me yourself? i
02:22:01
Speaker
How do I say? Put you on the spot here, buddy. There you go. What's your goals for the future, man? Where do you hope to see this take here? a Full time.
02:22:13
Speaker
So I had a conversation a while back. I would love to make this full time, but I will not leave Matt Motorsports in order to make it full time.
02:22:26
Speaker
That is how much I love this group of people that I am with now is I would I can't. I don't have the heart. of cannibal I love the people I'm with too much.
02:22:37
Speaker
Like i yeah I can't. Like, we literally, like, the second the Springfield show ended and I was on the road back home, it was like, damn, the weekend's already over. I'm already ready to be back. And here in a month from now, actually, I will be back with them.
02:22:53
Speaker
So that's the kind of group that I am with, and that is how happy I am with the people that I am with. That's Pete Williams, man. Absolutely. I wish I could be on the road every weekend with them.
02:23:04
Speaker
But it's quantity over, or quality over quantity, so. Nice.
02:23:13
Speaker
At some point, it would be like.
02:23:26
Speaker
<unk> ah At some point, somebody's going to join backstage. If I'm just working here. Somebody's going to join backstage. Just let me know because i got an introduction I want to do for this one. so I sure will. um Hey, sit on your hand so you don't touch the mic. If I do that, I can't relay information here. so Yeah, that's true. It happens.
02:23:52
Speaker
I gotta have these to do this. Yep. think I get it. But I gotta have this in my face and I want to always grab it. So it's like, shit.
02:24:05
Speaker
It's one of those you damn you damn if you don't things with the mic. I'm screwed either way. It's like, well, I want to hold it, but at the same time, if I hold it, I'm going to hit this magical damn button right here and I'm going to go red and that's off. You know?
02:24:22
Speaker
but Understandable. You got any more questions you want to ask them, Johnny? Shit, man. and I don't know about questions, but as far as comments, it deals. We're already where you've come doing this.
02:24:39
Speaker
You've already seemed like you've got a wealth of knowledge to you. That's something to be respected. you You're already off to ah a great start with this.
02:24:47
Speaker
And I say great start, but it sounds like you've been doing this for a while.
02:24:53
Speaker
Me? Yes, sir. um So I've been around monster trucks for a while. 2006. I was a kid. Working with them, driver interactions started around 2011.
02:25:08
Speaker
First driver I ever met was Jim Kohler. So i I started off pretty hot when it came to like meeting people.
02:25:18
Speaker
Got your foot in the door, That's something to be once again. Respect the ambition. Absolutely.
02:25:25
Speaker
I'm trying to get this out because they said it's not working and I'd have to call him, but
02:25:56
Speaker
We all three went silent. Yeah, I am They're having issues. They're on
Miami Event Highlights
02:26:03
Speaker
the road right now. so Oh, and that's understandable.
02:26:08
Speaker
I'm trying. I'm doing what I can for journalism and cataloging a lot of this information. it figured out.
02:26:32
Speaker
Oh, I want to promote this, actually, because what is today? Starting Friday, May 1st, tomorrow, on Matt Motorsports' Facebook page, I am going to be running a poll tournament-style bracket. I will post two clips every so often.
02:26:50
Speaker
Fans will have the opportunity to go through and vote on them. I am going to run a bracket that I will keep up with. It'll have like 12 or 14 clips. We are going to try to decide what is the biggest moment in the 45 years of Miami, Oklahoma, Matt Motorsports events.
02:27:10
Speaker
And We're going to run through a bracket and then fans have the opportunity to have a say in what is the biggest moment to ever happen for us at Miami, Oklahoma.
02:27:21
Speaker
There's been a lot of great moments. So that'll be a fun thing to go through. I've spent the last couple of days kind of going through clips and things. If you pick out 12 or 14 clips for this show, i would rather look for a needle in a damn haystack.
02:27:36
Speaker
I can only imagine, especially for doing something like that. Yeah, it's ah it's not easy. I'll tell you that much.
02:27:47
Speaker
Oh, especially when you got 45 years and everything from that show to go through, plus then, you know, with the monster truck deal going on, I mean, the that's a lot of history of the oh wow moments to be going through to decide to narrow it down to 12 or 14 clips to make a bracket out of. so give that Absolutely. Especially when starting in 2012, you have like 12 trucks yep per show. It's like, ah well, okay, so this guy did this, and then one run later, here we go doing sidewalls and shit.
02:28:28
Speaker
yeah like It's like, how do we choose do I choose? Flip a yeah so my hands Like, for instance, in there was one year Larry Swim and Devin Jones were racing in the finals of racing, straight line racing. There's a bread van set in center of the track down at the end of the racing lanes.
02:28:48
Speaker
I have to decide between Larry Swim hitting that bread van at about 80 miles an hour and nosing. Or Kaylin Miguez having her first ever rollover there hitting the jammer coming off the racing, starting racing lane sideways.
02:29:05
Speaker
It's like, wow. Okay. A first rollover or a truck hitting a bread box at 80 miles an hour in the championship race Saturday night. like Yeah, that's a tough one right there. and it so i could That'd be one of those ones I'd let it slide where I'd add those two just in there just because it's a tough one to to actually choose on that deal.
02:29:27
Speaker
Absolutely. And then you got guys like John Zimmer j They're coming out and they're hitting transfers in 60-foot gaps. And then you got Tim Jones coming out here, backflipping off of buses and things like that.
02:29:41
Speaker
like, y'all make this really difficult on a guy who's just trying to run a poll for fans. if so It's fun, though, because now it's like, okay, I'm reliving all these memories. At the same time, it's like, okay, what like I don't want to offend anybody for doing something cool if I leave them out.
02:30:02
Speaker
So it's like, how do I make sure the cool people that weren't the... highlight so to say for this poll still get included because I want to include everybody sure and that's the big thing is I don't want to leave anybody out so oh especially with the rich history of the stuff that goes on out there oh yeah so
02:30:35
Speaker
and that's There was a clip I had sent you that we didn't get to get on this show. um
02:30:46
Speaker
It was... Actually, it was in the intro video. The TMB truck coming off the ramp sideways and doing the sidewalls. It's like, I gotta to decide between that clip or potentially some of the biggest air off of a bus stack I've ever seen.
02:31:02
Speaker
Would that be Trip Wilson's view?
02:31:06
Speaker
Nah, that was a Tim Jones deal. ay Trip Jones is the freestyle I'd say from the indoors. That was one with the double sidewalls and all that.
02:31:18
Speaker
Here you go. You ready for your big introduction? The the person's here and ready. I'm going to bring them up. Oh, I'm ready. So here we have Tim Jones, one of the wildest drivers on the independent monster's truck circuit you will ever see.
02:31:39
Speaker
Tim, how are you doing, buddy? How's the ride? Not too bad. How's everybody doing today? Good. Thank you. Doing all right. Thank you. I appreciate you for taking the time out.
02:31:57
Speaker
Yeah, it's the behind-the-scenes action of traveling down the highway to the the show, you know. Squeeze everything in from behind the steering wheel.
02:32:09
Speaker
You're all good. Just stay safe. Don't wreck. Yes, that's all I ask. For sure, man. So I'm going to start this out. I got my headset on. You've been competing in Miami, Oklahoma, for since about 2019 now.
02:32:27
Speaker
And the one thing that is alluded to this whole time is a King of Miami trophy. You've done everything possible to try to win that trophy from doing backflips off of buses to hitting the sides of buses to do flips to sidewalls in the TMB truck last year.
02:32:45
Speaker
What do you personally think it is going to take for you to get over that hump to win a King of Miami trophy?
02:32:54
Speaker
Oh, you know, the thing with King of Miami is everybody comes to to, you know, lay down everything they got down there and it takes consistency. You know, I mean, it's ah it's going to take some good, you know, ah a decent skill for racing is my downfall. You know, I ah um I'm not a I'm not a racer. ah So it's going to come down to keeping the truck together and get some good freestyle scores. And you know
02:33:32
Speaker
ah ah this year, um I mean, i got I got high hopes and expectations of myself to ah give it all I got again. you know
02:33:45
Speaker
I believe last year was the closest you had came to winning that trophy. I could be wrong here, but I believe it is the closest. Talk about what it was like last year to represent the TMB TV guys and run that truck and burn it to the ground for all the fans.
02:34:04
Speaker
Oh, you know, when we did, when they, when Ross and them come to me about that and, uh, pi pitched it at me. i I mean, it really wasn't even a question. was just like, how do we get started on making this happen? You know, it was it's pretty cool. Out of all the trucks to be there, they they come to me and ask me to be a part of that and do that.
02:34:28
Speaker
ah You know, that'll be, that's that's one of those irreplaceable, um you know, shows you know getting to do it there doing it at a miama doing it for tmv and everybody that's been behind them all the years and being a part of them for to be there that was pretty cool so my last question before i let them ask a couple while i come up with a couple more your son trip
02:35:01
Speaker
He's making a name for himself. A few weeks ago in Springfield, we watched him lay down what I consider one of the best arena freestyles I've ever seen. And I believe he also took a skills win as well.
02:35:15
Speaker
What has it been like for you to watch him come up in the industry with you and then come out and start making a name for himself when it comes to doing stuff like him doing the sidewall saves and the moonwalks, the bicycles and all that?
02:35:29
Speaker
Oh, you know, uh from the very first time i had to set my truck and and uh and that boy's been you know been a part of this uh and you know been a part of the team and always always put his input in and until now you know when he got his first chance of setting a truck i mean it was if it was he was a natural at it you know every he's done so well uh so controlled uh i feel like it's slow motion to him in there you know
02:36:09
Speaker
ah he just everything he's doing awesome i mean i words really can't describe how excited i am to see you know all the growth that he's he's gained and just uh you know, 2020 shows.
02:36:30
Speaker
Dolly did like roughly 20 weekends in a truck and he's he's doing stuff that I've been driving for 12 years and he makes it look simple.
02:36:44
Speaker
Absolutely, and it must be awesome for you to be able to witness him coming out with big wins like that. And then the moments you get to have with him afterwards during his interviews, like when you went to go give him a hug and all that, and just seeing the outpouring support from the fans for him and all that.
02:37:00
Speaker
So that must mean a lot for you.
02:37:07
Speaker
I am going to like. It wouldn't be what them guys. You know, if it wouldn't be him being a part of it with me and Trenton, you know, growing up to be a part of it and everybody that stands behind me. i mean, even Whitney, you know, she's behind the scenes, just always thrashing and working on stuff all the time that people don't ever get to see all that.
02:37:35
Speaker
And it's it's awesome to to keep it keep it all close family. That's a great thing. That's honestly a great thing when you got family that can that does that with he you know stays tight knit and knitting everything and does all that stuff together and is amazing.
02:37:55
Speaker
I am going to throw it off to them to to ask you a couple questions. Before I do that, I want to say thank you for allowing me to do everything I've been able to do for you and your family.
02:38:05
Speaker
between the thing I did for trip and all of that, I want to thank you personally for allowing me to step foot, do your all's world and do all the behind the scenes stuff and everything like that, that I've got to do. So thank you.
02:38:25
Speaker
Johnny, you first on the questions. If you got anybody, I'll let you go first. Well, what was, uh, What was Miami like? I've ah've heard a couple of good things about it already. What was a ah your point of view about it participating in?
02:38:43
Speaker
As far as what it's what it's like to be a part of Miami? Yes, sir. Yeah, I mean, that show, it you know, there's there's a little history that I don't know the exact date,
02:39:01
Speaker
But I'm going to guess it was two thousand
02:39:09
Speaker
it 2009, eight. It may have been somewhere in there. You know, my my debut in Miami happened way before I was ever a monster truck guy. ah When I pulled, I was in PPL and competitive truck pulling and the diesel trucks.
02:39:27
Speaker
I actually was a part of the show of Johnny's when he used to have sled pulling, uh, as some, some entertainment filler. Uh, so I made like to, to, to make a full circle from being a truck puller there at one of his shows to, to, you know, being in a monster truck to watching my son be in a monster truck there. I mean,
02:39:56
Speaker
it's it's one of the biggest best outdoor shows that we get to do you know there's there's only a ah handful of them that uh we look forward to going back to every single year and miamas miamas at the top of them nice
02:40:18
Speaker
i mean miama we you know you're going for throw down fast you know that no everybody's got a number on somebody's head to to be better, to, you know, but at the end of the day, every one of us there, after the helmets come off, it's it's all friends.
02:40:43
Speaker
and And everybody makes sure that, you know, you can do it all again the next day. Pushing each other to be better. And like you just said, doing it again is the most we can ask for, man.
02:40:57
Speaker
Yeah, you know, and just this year going into the 45th anniversary of that, you know, it's that's that says a lot for Matt Motorsports and Johnny Darnell and the family, the Darnells that they've.
02:41:16
Speaker
maintained, you know, they just didn't want to ever come in and do one show and not worry about doing another. They, they go in to do a show and and build a relationship and, and never leave, you know, I mean, and obviously 45 years of doing the same show in Miami is, uh, I don't, I don't know, if you, you know, there's many that can say they've ever did that. Well, for sure.
02:41:45
Speaker
the cl the closest thing i could think of the longest running show even close to something like that is actually bowling green ohio that's about the truck tractor pulling that's about the only motorsports event besides that's a consistent show other than the mama show for the monster trucks and the event being held there every year for 45 years i think those are like the two top top shows that are still consistently running after all these years ah other than COVID year where it screwed everybody, but it's still been consistent no matter what. And that says a lot for four. and four
02:42:27
Speaker
Yep, absolutely. you know And I mean, that's where you know um the respect for for Darnell and and when he asked to and You know know, we go down there give it our all. We don't go to just get by. We go to to put on a show because that's what gets people to come back.
02:42:59
Speaker
So is there an influence behind your ragged edge driving style or is that just how you got into a truck and kind of turned out to be? Cause like you do some of the craziest stuff that nobody would think of to do between nearly doing many flips and skills off of the back of racing lanes, the backflips off the side of buses to whatever else comes to your mind to do. Is there kind of like an influence behind you being that innovative?
02:43:26
Speaker
Well, I mean, the the thing is with it is when i first got started you either can win or you can crash hard trying and ah because somebody they're gonna remember the guy that crashed hard trying and and they're they're gonna remember the guy that won and you know if if you can't win you better look good losing i mean and that's You know, that's that's kind of how I've always been.
02:44:00
Speaker
ah Try to be different. You've got to do something, you know, especially at a show when there's 14 trucks. You've got to go look at something a little different than the basic so you can stand out just a little bit different.
02:44:20
Speaker
And some talk about it, but very few deliver and try it. Some talk about how they want to try to do something, but when it comes down to it, they they don't.
02:44:31
Speaker
So it sounds like to me you're the one that when they say push the envelope, you like pushing the envelope when it comes to doing things. Oh, yeah, absolutely. Absolutely.
02:44:43
Speaker
I know art truck our are built as safe and the equipment that you know is up there, you know that I'm not scared to try anything. you know The things that things are built like tanks.
02:45:09
Speaker
No expenses spared on the safety in them and we just You know, if I want to try something as long as it's safe, safe to try for fan safety purposes, i don't bother me, you know, i'll i'll I'll try anything, you know, like that.
02:45:26
Speaker
as long as it doesn't jeopardize, you know, fan safety.
02:45:33
Speaker
So with this being the 45th anniversary and you're still fighting to get your first King of Miami trophy, is there anything we can expect from you that you're willing to try or that you would like to try to do in order to get over the hump to win?
02:45:51
Speaker
Oh, you know, I mean, it's, it's one of those things. It's going to be, uh,
02:45:59
Speaker
It's going to be, pre you know, a lot of, lot of pre-show prep, you know, I mean, go through the trucks, making sure they're on their A game. Uh, as you know, we do every, every time they go out, we try to make sure we have everything we need and in line where it needs to be. And, you know, it, and it's really going to come down to what this track looks like this year, you know?
02:46:24
Speaker
um You know, we fought last year, we made them them guys fought endless hours of mud and mud and mud and mud to give us a track that we could drive. And they delivered an awesome track for the conditions that got thrown at them.
02:46:40
Speaker
ah And, you know, this year we're going to have a great year. It's good. I feel it it's going to be, you know it's going to be a but warm.
02:46:57
Speaker
a track's going to look like and it's really going to come down to you know being invasive ah you know to the what's out there just have see what johnny throws at us and so i can tell you now because we are it is being advertised by us we will have a purpose-built backflip ramp What are the odds we see a willy bar go bye-bye on the back of the Gator and the Gator go rotate 360 degrees?
02:47:29
Speaker
Well, the Gator don't......for sissies, so we... It's always off.
02:47:43
Speaker
Well, Tim, it's going to be a show. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Yeah, yeah yeah we ah mean i we don't normally back down from them, so if they're there, they're they're there.
02:48:04
Speaker
Well, Tim, I appreciate you taking time out of your evening. I know you guys are on the road heading to Woodward, Oklahoma this weekend to go throw down with some guys down there. So I appreciate you taking the time while you're out on the road to come on for a little bit and talk with us.

Um, So it's it's a great honor, and it's been an honor to have the guests that we had up here on the show. i mean, i didn't expect who he was going to bring up other than when he mentioned about Pat coming on the show, but I didn't expect to have Tim and Alec, two of the top monster truck drivers around, to actually be on the show with us tonight was extra bonus.
