Speaker: da hello and welcome to Everon Renewed an actual play podcast at the Everon campaign setting. i am your Game Master, Eric.
Speaker: I'm Mia. I'm Phillip. I'm Madison. I'm Jeff. and Welcome to another episode. Folks, what happened last time? We went into the woods eventually. We decided not to go into the woods, then we decided to go into the woods.
Speaker: u And then the woods, sometimes the woods take you somewhere else. We cleverly used our skills to overcome some obstacles, purely narratively, and then we when things got hard, we ended up in La Mania. Actual.
Speaker: Yeah, and you all looked around, realized that the footsteps behind you leading here were gone, but there were footsteps before. There were only one set of footsteps. And then there was a very long conversation about the nature of cardinal directions when you hop planes, and now we're here.
Speaker: So, yeah, Mela has expressed that she... she You all asked if she knew how to get back. She said she has the skills to try and track down where the veil might be thinner, ah but she can't just like point on a map and say, here, let's go.
Speaker: um So, yeah, what's what's the plan, gang? It's frankly remarkable that it took us this long to get lost in another plane. True.
Speaker: Yeah. And that of that little ah thing at the admissions, did you visit another plane? We can just already mentally take that one off. Good job. that Yeah, that's good real silver lining. if we ever get back i So we have to make it back to worry about that.
Speaker: Just for the sake of like saying it since this is the first episode of a new session, the footsteps that you all were tracking are still present. like you You all could continue to track them.
Speaker: But, yeah. It seems like the only available option is to track down the people we were following and make them tell us how they intended to get back.
Speaker: And hope they did intend to get back. That's fair. Yeah. Yeah.
Speaker: One, two, three, not first. Nyx goes first. And Kaz follows. Okay. So the underbrush, you all can immediately feel the difference as you begin trekking through the woods that are fully in Lamania rather than just being influenced by it.
Speaker: The air feels a little bit thicker as you try to breathe in and out. There's a lot of moisture in the air. ah This is a... but Go ahead. I just thought... So, Selena had cast Light at one point so that we could see on Bard's tail. Has that changed? Is it still there? Has the nature of it changed? Okay. e didn't know So, our magic might still work. That's great.
Speaker: Yes. In fact, some forms of magic might work better. Sure. So... you all are trekking through. um i need a check though because the underbrush grows very quickly in the body. So somebody give me a wisdom based check or intelligence with a background around tracking. Unless we can somehow swing privileged mischief to be about tracking, I'm going to have to take this one out.
Speaker: Don't think so. It's about not being tracked, which is unfortunately different. What about mela Does Mela have a background that might suggest tracking?
Speaker: I would be fine with Mela's presence since an icon relationship was used for it. She will give a plus three. like She counts as a three background three in tracking.
Speaker: Remind me what the big... We worked out that the big seed was infused with a particular power. So it had the mark of handling on it.
Speaker: Right. I thought, I guess it was the, it was the axis. The axis were infused with the axes were infused with. That's what, yes, that's I'm getting, getting them flipped around.
Speaker: Uh, well, I have a poor wisdom, so I don't think we want me to, I've got, I've got a good intelligence. I got plus seven. Yeah, I have plus nine on intelligence. Well, we found it. Nine is ten. Well, we found for it. We found them. Okay, that 28, so 31.
Speaker: twenty so thirty one 31? Okay. So, Mela and Valve are looking through the underbrush and able to see the the footsteps as they're turning reminder that the wheelbarrow is no longer in play because it the the wood of the wheelbarrow had literally started re-sprouting.
Speaker: As... so as As you all are walking, Maela, kind of with Barna by her side, says quietly to Valk as they are walking ahead, keeping Ana on the track.
Speaker: So, how long have you been with this new crew? How long has it been? I think it's six. Yeah, a number of months. That hasn't been a year. No.
Speaker: No, it's been, yeah, I thought it was like six months. How long ago was the Festival? don't know what the first holiday was. Oh, the first of our of our downtime holidays? Holiday celebrations. like iing Something with nighttime in love.
Speaker: Was that the first one? Yeah. The first day of the campaign was the 20th of Erend, 986, and it is currently... I'm going need you to put this in the Imperial units, whatever you say.
Speaker: I just need to bookmark the Elder Wiki. I have... I have that it's now bulk. I have now that it's air, which is April. ah Right.
Speaker: Cause and for some reason I now know that Kaz's birthday is the 28th of larvae. Oh, we did talk about that. Yeah. One, two, three, four, five months.
Speaker: Close enough. Yes. you You were very close. Five months, give or take. Oh. Some of us arrived earlier and some of us arrived later. Well, seems to be going better than ah entanglements you've had.
Speaker: Isn't it? Well, they at least seem to respect you. Do they? took more for myself. Well, no you let me know when I can participate in the conversation. I don't think that would wear it up to help a lot, but i appreciated it.
Speaker: So is she still in contact with you? she doesn't need to be though. She usually just waits it out and then acts like nothing happens. so Do you intend to go back?
Speaker: Yes. That's my my house is there. It's my job. People move. it's my business. Half of my business. So we don't want her to have all of the business.
Speaker: That would be terrible. Fair enough. Well, good luck with all that. Thank you. How are the others doing?
Speaker: you still in touch with them? No. Yes, Aaron didn't like me that much. It's cordial. And then Asda would probably just keep talking and give away where I am.
Speaker: So it's ah it's a good break. Some space. How did you end up here? I... went home. I went home to... just took a break, went home to visit family, and then just kept traveling.
Speaker: And, you know, that whole kind of, like, bubble of Zoria thing that happens sometimes. then This guy was like, that's not normal.
Speaker: No, it's not. What an insightful person. yeah Yeah, it was as much more intelligent, formal conversation than that.
Speaker: It's more of like, if you need some assistance, you can, we can talk. And we talked and then i ended up not leaving. so And now you're traipsing through Lamania.
Speaker: Yeah, I didn't sign up for that part. That wasn't not wasn in the fine print. So was mostly just for research, access to information and connections that aren't already attached to her.
Speaker: Fair enough.
Speaker: Jeff, roll a d12 for me. Yeah, you got it. Four. Okay.
Speaker: The underbrush is growing a little bit thicker, but Valk, you do spot because this is something that you perhaps would have been looking out for. You see where some of the underbrush isn't growing back. The reason that you can follow the the path, you get the sense that it would be fully covered.
Speaker: If not for the fact that a lot of these larger roots and branches are cut off and it looks like the ends have been burnt, but they don't look charcoal. The wood just looks blackened.
Speaker: And like they can't grow back after being cut that way. I think Vash is going to point out the roots and say that our our best bet is going to be following these hatchets.
Speaker: Hatchets. Yeah. good on how would they cut like this nick fishes around in her pack and pulls out the axe head oh it's infused with magic from a bar well that's unsettling hey don't cut yourself that is it on i thought it wasn't i think it's just it it's just one of the heads like it's just a loose max out yeah yeah no get caught on that there wasn't time to get it properly done. Whoever would like to can give me a wisdom based check as you all continue walking down the path.
Speaker: This is a visual visually perceived something. I can do it again. sex I mean, can I? Anybody can do it. I imagine we're all looking around.
Speaker: Yeah. That was natural 20 that bounced out of my container. It's a shame. 23. 21, 8. Nyx is just glowering.
Speaker: Nyx, look over there. oh Everyone but Nyx spots you... around a corner following these these hatchet strokes now and you see a what is clearly a at least a resting spot if not an overnight campsite there's some ration containers that were left behind and um the notable thing that you all notice is near where they were sitting There is a depression in the undergrowth and grass and next to it, like there, the grass and leaves and everything are growing straight up and much taller than everything else, but there is a break in it. so
Speaker: Basically, it seems like whatever they're carrying was set down and the stuff started growing at a rapid pace and they had to like push it apart to pick the thing back up and start carrying. But there's this weird circle of just straight up growth, almost like a crown coming out of the ground.
Speaker: How large of a circle? Like how big is the thing they're carrying? Probably it's not quite as big as like full-size beach ball.
Speaker: like you know a standard regulation yeah sorry yeah right a competition beach ball i'm trying to think of of something that's this size leave me alone olympic american like a weber grill it's about like three feet in diameter okay no yeah three p damage beach will see yeah i decided to go with the number so there you go okay so much larger than our egg too like yes yeah okay that was my first thought but this And the depression, gives it's big and heavy. It's probably taking several of them to carry it together, right?
Speaker: i mean if it's like you would You would guess. So even just from a circumference, like the idea of carrying something this and big for a long duration would be awkward. It's not heavy. It's just awkward, you see. no so That's what I say about myself.
Speaker: Two things can be true, Jeff. Mia, what was the total number after your natural 20? Oh, math. Name of the game. Welcome to math. TTRPG.
Speaker: Oh, there's there's no additional bonus. So it's just more than 30. Quit. You would not have gotten me into this 10 years ago. 30? Yeah. This makes sense. Valk, as you look at this depression in the Undergrowth, the shape seems familiar to you because it's not perfectly spherical.
Speaker: And your mind jumps back to a very early mission. Months ago. we would say four-ish months ago. to when you brought home a rather large acorn. Not this big.
Speaker: But the vague shape and outline in this depression is very similar. It's a seed. Okay. okay Big seed. Big tree. Yeah. Sure, sure.
Speaker: I'm trying to remember. eight You think all this is dumb and you think it's a cannonball. It's a big cannon. It's a cannon. OGM who refuses to allow us to have gunpowder.
Speaker: I'm trying to remember it's because of... Valk's nature, you didn't keep the acorn a secret from us, did you? like we were all we were Or did you? I can't i couldn't hide it. I don't think it was possible. very it up even if Even if they wanted to, it was like... I couldn't i couldn't remember exactly how... And then I buried it. It took me like... yes right I couldn't remember if it was like satchel big or not.
Speaker: We had to rent a backhoe. No, i didn't and I didn't hide the acorn. This is before I started keeping good notes, so I don't have anything about the acorn. Except for the vague recollection of the acorn.
Speaker: And the tree it sprouted. And the dragonborn that sprouted from it, I believe, right? No. Separate trees. yes That's the tree line. no Okay, I was going to ask Madison to do it, but she has her hands full. Philip, roll a D. oh Okay, roll a D12 for me, Madison.
Speaker: Four. Four.
Speaker: Okay. As you all are walking along, Barna freezes. And Dick's immediately stops. Like if, if the, if the expert stops, Dick stops like and holds very well.
Speaker: Yeah. As soon as Barna freezes, Mela also stops and is like, she holds her hand up for anybody else that wouldn't have heeded the wolf. I understood the wolf is the expert. Yeah. but it comes When it comes to knowing threats in the woods.
Speaker: ah
Speaker: Barna's third eye opens up as he like sniffs the air and looks around and he looks to to the right of the direction you all are traveling and growls and then whimpers and Mayla looks at Barna and looks at you all and says, run.
Speaker: And Barna begins taking off in the opposite direction.
Speaker: Yep. Run with the dog? Off the direction from the way it was looking, I assume? ah the a Away, yes. It went to the right, growled, whimpered, and then took off the other direction.
Speaker: And Mayla said run. I don't question that directive from all else anyone. Everyone give me a strength-based or dexterity-based check to run through the woods quickly, ah relevant backgrounds as available. That's a natural one.
Speaker: 18. I have a natural 20. For a nice six. We're in Nix's wheelhouse now, baby. was like to say, and I don't know how my natural 20 interacts with this, but my intent was to say Nix is running fast enough to be in the rear. Like Nix yes is deliberately keeping everyone in front of her.
Speaker: Well, I rolled a natural two, which makes it a nine. So, okay. I, if, if you all will allow me, so Selena takes off, Selena takes off with Mela and like all of you start to take off running.
Speaker: Nyx, was this a strength based check that you made or dexterity based? They are the same modifier. So I, okay. I just, I, like. It would probably be strength. I, I would guess.
Speaker: I like the visual of Valk and Kaz immediately tripping over their own feet as they're trying to sprint through the woods. And Nick's just like football, lowering both shoulders and like scooping them up and like running because they're both pretty small, smaller individuals. Valk's pretty light, but tall. Valk's pretty light.
Speaker: Kaz has a lot of leg and arm, I think. Kaz is probably as tall. How tall is Kaz? Kaz is actually... Kaz is almost Valk. Yeah. yeah So they're both tall. And Kaz is now doing the air swimming thing dogs do when you pick them up. Trying to keep running.
Speaker: Basically, Nix's natural 20 can negate the two short failures of Valk and Kaz. I think it's like, to put a to put a more, perhaps more grounded idea, I think it's more likely that Nyx just grabs them by the back of their clothing and just hauls them back up onto their feet and pushes.
Speaker: What were going to say, Mian? I going to say, if Falk is getting picked up, he is incomprehensibly, like, just yelling. Because Asda also picks him up. And he ah this is. This is flashback to him. That's who I played. It rhymes like poetry.
Speaker: um So, you all take off running. You start to hear the ground rumble beneath your feet as you are running through the woods. And you hear... What's the scale of the rumbling? Like...
Speaker: pretty t-rex in Jurassic Park bison herd like more more t-rex Jurassic Park okay and except it's it's if a t-rex had four legs so it's like a lot more like you hear the trees cracking behind you um and we're about to have to do another check to see if anybody gets stripped up or anything I will allow anybody that would like to, you don't have to like to have a negative two modifier or negative.
Speaker: The system is so wonky when it comes to numbers, a negative four modifier to look back and see what's chasing you. Cause you'd be taking your eyes off the road or the path. There's not even a path. You're just running through the woods at this point.
Speaker: Are all these checks going to be either strength or dex? Is that the plan? At this point, yes. If we're just running, yeah. Yeah, this this is the last one of this kind before we move into the dex section of this before it'll switch. with button no Does the fact that Nyx is carrying me make it easier for me to look back and see what's behind us?
Speaker: I think we established that Nyx did not pick any them. Yeah, I know. Nyx just let one step. Well, Nyx didn't pick anybody up, but I may have jumped up. No, okay, I'm not taking i'm not taking that gamble personally. I was going to say what Nyx would probably do, and this would probably involve looking back, um is Nyx would just... For the first time in a while, Nyx would...
Speaker: half turn as she runs and reach back with her hand as the as the scales run down and just tear a rind through the air and let a demon crawl out behind us.
Speaker: Okay. I don't know if that will do any good because I don't know the scale of the creature and so it might just run straight over it and this could be irrelevant. Okay, strength or dexterity check and I will take the the demon thing into account.
Speaker: Okay. That's a 20 this time for me. The demon in question has 70 hit points for the record. I need a... Nope, 20 because minus four. Okay.
Speaker: I have 15, but that's going to go down to an 11. Cause you look back. Yeah. Okay. Okay. I'm glad someone did.
Speaker: I knew with certainty Valk was going to look back. So was never in question. So, and sorry, Madison, what did you get? 12. 12. Okay. So Valk was the only one that looked back though, just to make sure. mean, Nyx would have had to, cause I have to be able to, have to be able to see the location.
Speaker: the location So, Nix and Valk, you, as you look over your shoulders, see the trees break apart as there is, on the scale of a two-story house.
Speaker: Oh, cool. A squirrel sprinting through the woods, breaking down the trees. And Valk as Even... It's one of those things where Valk has been exposed to the incomprehensible madness of Zoriat.
Speaker: This... is real enough, but wrong enough to probably still be at least a little unsettling to Valk. And just like, like, cause it just looks like a squirrel.
Speaker: Like there's no other like extra appendages or anything. But as Valk looks back, root, foot and Valk trips. Valk. Yes. You are able to hop back up and continue running, but it costs you one recovery. Okay.
Speaker: I don't know when you said this. Well, I had to pick a mechanic for failure, Mia, and that's the one I picked, so. i don't know. There's stress points. you I know, but it has to apply to everyone. So, you all, the squirrel is much faster than you. It's the size of a three-story house, and it's sprinting.
Speaker: have a question, Eric. Yeah, maybe I can't tell. Maybe I can't tell. So under normal circumstances, in a normal world, squirrels aren't carnivorous and a squirrel would have no reason to chase us. It seems to, do I have any reason to believe that's not true here? There's no reason to believe that's not true.
Speaker: If you want to make an intelligence check, I'll make it relative backgrounds. That's gonna be 10.
Speaker: 10? Actually, yeah. You're like, this scroll would not intend you any harm. It's Lamani. You think if you just break right or left hard enough and get out of its imminent path,
Speaker: That's fine. Okay. Nyx will shout. There's no way we outrun it. We should get out of its way. Mela breaks hard to the right and like she has the mark of handling. She like gets Barna to follow like follow her.
Speaker: So she's got sick handles. Just breaks to the right. Quick little juke move. Throw the squirrel off. Plants the foot hard. Goes to right. goes right What did the rest of you do? i was going to follow Mayla.
Speaker: Yeah, same. Having heard that and see. Yeah. Okay. Are we continuing to run? Are we doing the movie thing where we all just dive? So the the shot gets to see the squirrel tear past us in the background. did You tell me.
Speaker: No, we followed Mayla. So you do we actually get to tell us. Based on nit what Nick said, Maela would just try to get out of its path and not continue like in a dead sprint because now you all are way off far field in terms of the the path. Sure. So not trying to get more disoriented. All right.
Speaker: Is it following us? The squirrel continues. It seems like it's running straight. It is not looking at you all. As it gets, so it, like, trees are breaking, and it gets about even with you.
Speaker: You then feel the ground, like, a hard shake. And then from above the tree line, the, trying to think of the right scale, the size of There's no right scale. How big a beach ball is? All of this is the wrong scale.
Speaker: Keep adding stories. Just keep adding stories. Yeah. You could just say proportional if that's what you intend. i mean, the size of a moderately big shopping mall.
Speaker: All right. that is so Moderately big shopping mall. Basically, at the appropriate scale for this size of a squirrel, a fox dives down on it.
Speaker: And the ground crashes around you. And so that's what Nyx didn't conceptualize based on the 10 check is it was being chased by something that is carnivorous.
Speaker: And we're way too small for it to be interested. Let's see. A fox the size of a prison as it jumps down on the... Yes, the fox dives down on the squirrel. You hear, like, the sound of bones the size of large trees cracking as it, like, bites into the squirrel.
Speaker: and And it's that it's that Jurassic Park T-Rex moment where the eye, like, opens and it's just staring at all of you.
Speaker: And...
Speaker: Yes? I guess I'm just thinking about the logistics of that. if it's It turned its head a little bit. Okay. Thank you. ah preator Predators. they Their eyes are forward facing. So so now we are in a proper skill challenge.
Speaker: You have to escape the fox. Oh, okay. That was bad. This is a bad situation. So the way trees our scale...
Speaker: Yeah, these trees are your scale. The fox is like running through a field of trees that come up to its ankles? and Yeah, so it's like running through prairie grass for itself. It's a weird place. I like it. thank you Thank you. Too many questions.
Speaker: Philip figured something out. This place is weird. We need to write that down.
Speaker: You all basically can tell me what you would like to do. That involves a skill of some, well, a background that you have rolled with an ability.
Speaker: If you want to use magic to augment that in any way, like the, like Nick's trying to summon the demon for the squirrel, that can be something that can, that can augment a role to count towards the success.
Speaker: Basically, the way skill challenge works, you all have to get a certain number of successes before you get a certain number of failures. He did. There is no hard initiative order or anything.
Speaker: ah The Fox doesn't get to act. The Fox is just an environmental effect, essentially. Um, so who has an idea of what they would like to do? I could, I used my privilege to mischief along with intelligence to do a scan, a quick scan for nearby cover, just to kind of, as a first step to.
Speaker: yeah Okay. ah Yeah. All right, cool. That's not so bad. gonna double check my numbers. Okay. That's a 22. 22. Yeah. Okay.
Speaker: yeah okay That is enough for a success. So Kaz described me what this looks like. I think that, um, there, you know we've been talking about all of this undergrowth and all of this the whole time.
Speaker: I think I spot almost like. What would be for us maybe a thicket entrance for a Everodian-sized fox to be hiding in near enough to us that we can probably slink that way without causing too much commotion?
Speaker: Because right now he's staring at us and not you know one of those sort of things. like if We are so insignificant to agitate him size-wise that maybe we can just get out of its eyeline.
Speaker: So that's my... okay i I make that suggestion. Maybe start kind of... army crawling my way towards it okay see guys follow me like always okay so you all are trying to sneakily make your way towards this thicket yes mia oh mine was purely self-centered do it i would like to if successful almost using exposed to zoria Almost like something that Avalk has forgotten to where he just freezes, but then literally starts to shift the reality around him to where he slightly phases away. So like there should be something there and it's a bit blurry. Okay. You can't fully see. Yeah. from there you Love that.
Speaker: That's on my weirdness table. So it exists in the world. That is a wisdom. What's your spellcasting wisdom? Yeah, it's wisdom.
Speaker: Yep. Actually, let me make sure i'm not. Yes, it is wisdom. done But that is, again, that's the 18, so that's 28. twenty eight Cool.
Speaker: Yes. Nyx or Selena?
Speaker: Like the worst flea ever, that fiend that I summoned comes racing back and lunges itself at the, ah like just above the toes yeah of this fox that is far too large to comprehend. So using Shavaroth touched. So a modified 20.
Speaker: so a modified twenty Okay. Yeah, the fox is staring in your all's direction, and then it does that thing that when dogs have a flea, where youre like it brings its foot up and like does the like itching with its teeth thing on its on its foot, so it's distracted briefly, and you hear, Nick, especially since you're probably attuned to the sound, you hear a demonic shriek before a... See, that's the worst thing, because when it's reduced to zero hit points, it doesn't necessarily go back to Shabroth. It comes back halfway. So now it's tearing in its tongue.
Speaker: oh It's biting the air. the The fox. Okay, Madison, what are you thinking? Okay, I want to use the spark cantrip and try to just set like a small fire kind of in between where we are army crawling and where it is to try to like cover us a little bit with something that maybe it doesn't want to go through.
Speaker: If you roll a natural one, I'm going to have an awakened bear out and start chasing. I was going to say, I'm a werebear. Well, I did not, so we're good. Start fires. Hey, werebears have only ever been good for us, except for most of the times.
Speaker: It's going to be like 24. 24? Yeah.
Speaker: yeah it's Yeah. Uh, so you use your spark can trip and a small fire starts, but more importantly, because it's so wet and damp, it starts smoldering and like smoke begins kind of filling the area for their obscuring visibility as Valpia's phasing in and out existence and Kaz's army crawling towards a fox thicket.
Speaker: Okay. That is One for each of you all. you You all have very successfully distracted the fox and provided a good deal of cover and obscurity.
Speaker: So let's do another round. Who wants to go next to try and like actually get away from this fox? Or do something else to get the fox to run away as well. like I mean, I mean, it has to be getting up and running. Yeah. i guess I would use...
Speaker: We use black market here to ah try to observe a this, this path that Kaz has put us on, try to observe a a covered route away from that. Like where, where can that the tree branches come close together and it's, it's not going have observation. Cause you know, we're the scale of ants.
Speaker: So probably doesn't want us that bad. mean, just be out of sight. Yeah. Okay. by That is Yeah, you are confident that you spot a a pathway that's obscured enough that if you can make it over to it, you should be fine. would like to go next? I mean, I'm blurred, so can I just walk away? Okay.
Speaker: I mean, it it's not purely a visual-based hunter. Like, it could still smell. The smoke is obviously happening with that. So if you just try to, like, saunter away, it's probably going to hear you or smell you.
Speaker: Oh, let's see. oh
Speaker: Can i almost... yeah and guess this could also be exposed to Zori yet. But, or paranormal investigator, but utilizing like a version of karmic rebuke, almost make like a spectral form of the squirrel that just oh crushed.
Speaker: And then have it like surrounding and attempting to like attack the... But not fi like actually attacking. Yeah. But just yeah disrupting the fox.
Speaker: For sure. Love that. That is... It's a seven... You summon this like spectral form of the squirrel that rounds on the fox and attempts to attack it.
Speaker: But the fox like turns and goes to like bite at the squirrel and it bites through the spectral form and unfortunately is like immediately aware that it's not real. So that's your first failure. Not to say you're a failure, Mia.
Speaker: I would never say that. You wouldn't be allowed to. You have failed, though. It's fine. Val fails all the time. Okay. Okay. have a question. Because I've taken the the path of the divine as the talent, which means I have access to some cleric spells too.
Speaker: Yeah. I would like to try to thaumaturge some fox barking and yipping behind this fox. ah um I was looking for a range. I don't see one specifically. i mean That's fine.
Speaker: Okay. No. and And can I use fey touched in addition to my spellcasting modifier to do this? Yes. Some wild stuff. Okay, cool. Yeah.
Speaker: This might not be bad. That's a 33. Wow. Yeah. so Natural 19. So close. but Not physically. They're pretty far from each other, but...
Speaker: So yeah, were you just wanting there to be like another fox out there to like draw its attention? or Yeah, some some barking and yipping to to distract it. you know I don't know. It could either perceive... I don't care if it perceives it as friends or threats, as long as it perceives it as foxes over there.
Speaker: Yeah. I mean, Kaz doesn't. Kaz didn't think that far ahead. so Yeah. um I don't think Kaz has enough knowledge of foxes or control of his magic to make it one or the other, like angry barking or happy yipping.
Speaker: So the fox noise that comes out is what he's going to get. He's going to deal with it. Okay. Madison, what does Selene do? Okay. I'm thinking kind of similar to with the smoke, just a way to obscure us a little bit more using the bar touch to kind of, I don't know summon like darkness okay around us.
Speaker: Yeah. and I also got a natural 19. That's crazy. Nice. That's going to be easy. Picking that it's 32. Okay. two okay Yeah, you all, it is very heavily obscured. it is dark, smoky.
Speaker: Nyx has plotted the getaway path and you all are able to beat feet. Valk is phasing in and out of reality. Kaz is army crawling. Nyx and Slater are walking. I didn't get a certain point in my game. I was army crawling while it was looking at us. When it's dark, I stand up.
Speaker: And the the fox hears the very distinct mating call of another fox and turns and is heavily distracted by that as you all manage to sneak away.
Speaker: So you all have overcome my fox puzzle, my foxy puzzle, if you will. And you shall. Because of the mating call? Yes. Yeah. yeah yeah Jeff did this.
Speaker: No, that's why it's foxy. We won because the fox was horny. We did it. Hooray. Yay.
Speaker: Anyway. I'm just going to let you sit with your choices. Yep. On that. And here we are. So you all, it takes a bit of time.
Speaker: but not super long because you all succeeded on the skill challenge. It doesn't cost you any like recoveries or a large amount of time to try and retrace your steps back to the original path. You ran in one direction. so you just have to kind of go back through the large swath that the squirrel. Yeah.
Speaker: So you all, Meila is able to get you all back on the path and give me Falk, go ahead give me another wisdom-based check using Mela's plus three to continue now.
Speaker: That is 27. 27. twenty seven Okay. Yes, you all
Speaker: are able to to continue following primarily the hatchet marks at this point. The undergrowth is continuing to grow. and As you all are walking along, everyone give me a wisdom base check to visually notice something. 22. 27. What do you okay
Speaker: This was a very high DC. A string breaks as you all are walking down the path and a large net comes up and engulfs all of you in a little trap.
Speaker: And you see... Is it a little trap? No, like it it is a trap. The scale of this place is weird, so... Yes, fair enough. Importantly, Nyx, you would clock this immediately.
Speaker: Valk would also probably clock this immediately. All of you would probably ah before too long. This is a heat a trap made to catch people. Sure. The most dangerous game. Yes.
Speaker: Well, Nyx has her sword out and she's working on it. Like, that's Nyx's move one. Classic Nyx opening game. Yeah. a out with a sword A human comes out of the woods with bow and arrow at the ready, not pointed at you all, and a spectral direwolf next to her.
Speaker: And she says, are you all with him? No. Almost certainly not. What are you doing here? Trying to stop them and then leave. That's on the second part. Any of you give me a charisma check. Sure thing.
Speaker: like A single one of us, I'm plus eight. What's that? Okay, go for it. I'm happy to sit down. Natural 20. Okay. Get me out of this net. Super hero.
Speaker: she looks at the group of you lets out a mixture of a sigh and like snarl and she raises her bow and shoots an arrow quickly to the rope like holding the net and the net drops down to the ground and opens up i think jaz was probably on the bottom of the net too like eight feet up
Speaker: So it doesn't feel good, but it's not like an injury.
Speaker: Except for the Knicks had her sword out. So who knows? Yeah, I've ruined this net. Selena is stabbed. That's how we did it. for Perfect.
Speaker: mean
Speaker: How did you get here? We don't know. No. I mean, logistically, we walked. As you all stand up and take a look at this this woman, she has very dark brown hair, braided back, and you see very tanned skin, but you see that she has a mark, a dragon mark covering her entire body, covering her face, covering her hands, like any any portion where there skin exposed, you see a dragon mark.
Speaker: And it is there's enough of the markings around to clock it as the mark of handling. It is a Sybaris mark of handling. That Sybaris is what I could not think of. Yeah. So you don't know the people that cause this mess with that acorn of theirs.
Speaker: Not personally. Not personally, yeah. They're causing problems in the other, in the material world as well, and that's why we were pursuing them. We're here quite by accident. thus Unfortunately, whatever town you came from won't be here, of it won't be in the material plate for too much longer unless this situation is dealt with.
Speaker: Yes, sweet we have worked that out.
Speaker: Alright. Well, apologies. My name is Vrael. I'm Kaz. I'm Selina. Val. Ix. Nela. Alright, well... board If you... If you intend to take care of this business, then I intend to help you. I think I have found a way to kill the tree that they have planted here that is causing the problem.
Speaker: If you would like... You will not be able to catch up with them before the sun sets, and I would not recommend being in these woods at night. I have a place nearby if you all would like to hunker down, and then we can head out in the morning and track them down.
Speaker: If not, you are more than welcome to continue on the path that you are on. you You just live here? Where did you come? Yes, I live here. i just didn't think this was, like, prime real estate.
Speaker: a monncure Shelter would be good. Good. Yeah, sure. Thank you. Can I vibe check? Sure. Give me a wisdom check.
Speaker: It's not like spooky lady in the woods going to cook us or something. I i can't eat. This is actually a natural 20. you get the sense that she is a very annoyed that you're here. She's very annoyed that the other people are here.
Speaker: She wants like, it's, it's very lady get in line, get get out of my woods kind of thing. So if your intention is to leave, you could not hope for a better ally than this woman. Cause she wants you gone.
Speaker: sick it's No, I mean, but she, yeah, you do not detect any deceit or malevolence in her offer. Um, just annoyance and frustration that this is happening.
Speaker: So she, ah with, with you all answering the affirmation, she clicks her tongue to the spectra wolf and says, come battle, Lenore. And they begin walking.
