Phil Gordon: And welcome to Laughing Liberally Arizona. I'm Phil Gordon along with my good friend Dave Margolis. And we're going to do our next segment on our podcast, Laughing Liberally Arizona.

Phil Gordon: Our show covers basically three areas where always... Talking about comedy, performing comedy in some form or another. We will talk about politics, particularly with a focus on Arizona politics. And we love to talk sports, particularly baseball. and How appropriate is that as we head into the final month?

Phil Gordon: of 2020 -2026 season. Dave?

Dave: Yes, Phil. um Yeah, I just want to say we also we we cover news if there's a news. event that we feel is important. and You know what? Everybody's heard about this.

Dave: and We hope that people will be watching this months from now, but still... ah We lost... trailblazing feminists. Gloria Steinem this past week at the age of 92. When reached for comment, God said, this is great timing. We've got a pile of dishes stacking up.

Dave: like Anyway, that'll get the feminist... watching this for sure. But one thing I want to say, ah we're talking a little bit about laughing liberally. And Phil and I have been working together for a long time. Comedians we've obviously been on many shows together We had a...

Dave: local radio show here in Tucson called Is This On? uh which was um aimed at yeah the comedy community here, especially young comics. We try to give some historical background and maybe some tips here and there i had a wonderful theme song at the beginning that's what really drew a lot of people to it was that and uh We did that for a few years and had a lot of interviews with local comics, some traveling comics, some road comics came in.

Dave: And it went really well. We had a really good time with that. Um, One thing I want to say to you, Phil, when we had the radio show, it was called Is This On? reference to it. comics say when they're bombing.

Dave: And we called it ITO. and Now we're laughing liberally Arizona. We're L -L -A is -Z. and It's not an easy acronym, but I was thinking... that You know, we're in southern Arizona and we have a very Hispanic influence in Tucson.

Dave: and you know in spanish ll is pronounced like the letter y Yeah.

Phil Gordon: Sure.

Dave: Like that. So I thought why don't we just for a short being call it yes.

Phil Gordon: Yes.

Dave: Yes, sir.

Phil Gordon: And a good baseball reference right there, Dave. Are you already working on a song?

Dave: We both... I just thought of this. Uh...

Phil Gordon: Okay, wow

Dave: but Yeah, it... yeah it can be we can say yeah we love carly strepsky and You know, maybe someday we'll have a beauty pageant and we'll name the as queen, as the kids like to say. So, ah yeah, so that's about it. then let's Let's get on with it.

Phil Gordon: And the classic drum roll, Dave, a part of every comedy effort. And indeed we will, you know, let's. so Go right to politics, as you alluded to it, when something is happening.

Phil Gordon: Our... LL AZ mics are right there And there was an event, Dave, ah earlier in Washington, D .C. where we were able to ah make a contact and get the opportunity to speak with a member of the administration.

Phil Gordon: It's pretty rare that...

Dave: Yes.

Phil Gordon: The Trump administration will actually send out. someone to speak to a podcast, especially with a... I'd have to say a liberal bent. Like ours, Dave.

Dave: Yeah.

Phil Gordon: ah But we have able. We have been able to secure a visit. from the cabinet member from the Trump administration, Dave, the secretary.

Phil Gordon: of meat And this is so exciting. ah We are... ah able to ah You know, plug in, Dave. ah with lots of headlines these days, the Iran war, immigration, the economy. and Everyone is talking about food prices.

Phil Gordon: And with beef prices rising and diminishing in some cases here in our country. President Trump has announced plans to buy... 100 million metric tons, Dave, of beef.

Dave: That's a lot. right

Phil Gordon: From... Argentina. And... ah Here to speak with us today, representing the Trump administration. is the Secretary of Meat, Secretary Mutton.

Phil Gordon: Welcome, sir.

Dave: Well, Please call me ah Bob.

Phil Gordon: Bah? You mean... B .A.?

Dave: No, but...

Phil Gordon: All right. ah Sure, not not not be a... ah It seems we have a...

Dave: always lot

Phil Gordon: Oh sure.

Dave: ah there we go too

Phil Gordon: It seems we have a lack of ah beef in our domestic stock.

Dave: mys

Phil Gordon: Will President Trump... Trump's purchases. Resolve that issue?

Dave: Well, he'll certainly do better than RFK Jr's player.

Phil Gordon: RFK's plan failed. Was there... Not enough, or was it poorly ah poor quality?

Dave: No, actually, it was he delivered plenty. The volume was fine. but you And it's not bad if you overlook the tire tracks.

Phil Gordon: Oh. well What about the quality of the meat from Argentina?

Dave: That is tested by an expert.

Phil Gordon: I see. And it passed the muster.

Dave: oh Yes, that's right. ah ruy Rudy Giuliani choked down a slice of flank steak and declared it. Digestible. So.

Phil Gordon: Is that good?

Dave: Good luck to us. Good. going by Trump's steak standards, that's flying colors, man.

Phil Gordon: it Another question for you, sir, and we we do so appreciate your joining us today. uh Is there a danger of the meat going bad, raw meat? shipped from South America?

Dave: Well, it's not all shipped raw. Some of it they bake first, some of the meat is grilled before they ship it, some broiled.

Phil Gordon: Yeah.

Dave: There's only one thing that we ask of them.

Phil Gordon: What is that?

Dave: Don't fry for me, Argentina! A little meat joke there.

Phil Gordon: Hehehehe. We... have

Dave: We go.

Phil Gordon: Very little, by the way.

Dave: You got the mignon. It sounds nicer. Mignon.

Phil Gordon: Ah! Will it be a difficult task getting the meat to restaurants, Denny's, Chili's, McDonald's?

Dave: McDonald's is using meat now?

Phil Gordon: Heh. Will the American people? except this mysterious meat from Argentina, sir.

Dave: we've got a big ad campaign plan. When you eat beef from Argentina, you're never alone. You're usually in the emergency room.

Phil Gordon: Go.

Dave: That's how that goes, yep.

Phil Gordon: Yeah. I see.

Dave: By the way, do you like my...

Phil Gordon: well

Dave: You're like the the... change of wardrobe here because i didn't want to look too much like dave so i put on my

Phil Gordon: No, no, I...

Dave: I do.

Phil Gordon: I don't think anyone would mistake Dave for a member of the Trump administration. so No, i not one I don't think anyone thought that. um

Dave: I hear this. I hear there's a lot of work in it.

Phil Gordon: And. Yes. Uh... i'm ah and And we really do appreciate your visiting us, sir. Where where are you off to from here?

Dave: Oh, I'm heading towards a delicious lunch of tofu and sprouts.

Phil Gordon: Tofu and sprouts? you You don't eat meat, Secretary?

Dave: That's stuff. will kill you.

Phil Gordon: Sir, before you go, may I ask one question one more question?

Dave: that

Phil Gordon: And that is...

Dave: Yes.

Phil Gordon: ah Given the sensitivities of the Trump administration and their... their a war on illegal immigrants. Wouldn't the Argentinian cows be considered illegal immigrants?

Dave: a you know I think there's a loophole there. that if you're tasty enough

Phil Gordon: I see.

Dave: It's okay. thank

Phil Gordon: Did you say mmm or did you say moo?

Dave: I thought you were gonna suggest some sort of... Soylent Green variation here.

Phil Gordon: Perhaps a great.

Dave: That was incredible.

Phil Gordon: ah I thought maybe the Edward G. Robinson reference might be out of date, but that's okay. Not for me. Not for me. Secretary Muttin, it has been a pleasure.

Phil Gordon: we We so appreciate your joining us today. Give our regards, of course, to President Trump. And it's been a pleasure to chat with you, sir.

Dave: You know, he's he's a big fan of me. you know It's Weldon's video.

Phil Gordon: Oh yes.

Dave: McDonald's anyway. and eats that stuff up.

Phil Gordon: Of course. ah there some the Some call him Big Mac.

Dave: that's hard good

Phil Gordon: ah

Dave: That's what gives him his healthy glow. I'll see you.

Phil Gordon: Yes. Absolutely. Well, that is that is just wonderful.

Dave: course

Phil Gordon: All right.

Dave: button is the Button is leaving now.

Phil Gordon: David is... Dave is back. Thank you. Welcome, Dave.

Dave: hey Oh, what'd I miss?

Phil Gordon: And, you know, ah We yeah we love ah to talk about comedy here on Laughing Liberally Arizona.

Phil Gordon: And, you know, Dave and I.

Dave: yeah

Phil Gordon: we We get together quite often. In fact, I don't think we we risk, although we're quite open to sponsorship, we often dine at Portillo's here in Tucson. A favorite of mine from my Chicago days, I was so delighted when they... opened one here, and now I've got you, I think, pretty well hooked on Portillo, Steve.

Dave: Absolutely, and we went there yesterday because it was your birthday. And we had a nice lunch.

Phil Gordon: well Thank you very much.

Dave: and Porto.

Phil Gordon: It was very kind of you. I appreciate it very much. I think, Dave, one thing we're talking about for the future is as we now let our audience know.

Dave: No question.

Phil Gordon: that we often go to Portillo's. We're thinking of along the side of our screens here. a measure of our cholesterol. ah as as we continue to go to Portillo's. And that that'll be ah ah certainly building, I would think.

Phil Gordon: ah But it was wonderful as usual.

Dave: yeah yeah

Phil Gordon: and great to have lunch with you as usual and you know we always get to talking you and i about Something from the past. You know, we're at that age where... Everything reminds us of something that happened in the past. And we love to talk baseball. And we love to talk comedy. And inevitably...

Phil Gordon: We wind up talking a lot about, like... Wait a minute, that actor, that comedian, isn't that the son or daughter of another comedian? And, you know, we we decided to look at it and talk about.

Phil Gordon: Some of these famous families. that have now You know... so Sons and daughters that are performing comedy and I think let's start with one of the greats and of course ah the horrible sad news of this recently, and we talk about Carl Reiner.

Phil Gordon: And of course, he's now late the late Carl Reiter and now his late son. Rob Reiner. who, uh, unfortunately was murdered by his own son, Dave.

Phil Gordon: ah But let's not focus on that tragedy. Let's focus on the great comedy of those two. What are what are your thoughts on Carl Reiter?

Dave: Oh, well. ah Well, uh... So one thing I want to say, like I... I uh... I looked at the list because you compiled a list of... parents and children who were in comedy.

Phil Gordon: Yes.

Dave: it's ah It's a really mixed bag because some of them are... like Rob Reiner. Absolutely. a star on his own. Uh, he was like Actor and all in the family everybody knows him from that in the 60s. He was always popping up in sitcoms. He was always like ah the hippie, but he was a friendly hippie.

Dave: He was an acceptable hippie.

Phil Gordon: True.

Dave: I remember he was on Partridge family and his he was a hippie and he was his name was Snake. And he came out.

Phil Gordon: yeah

Dave: Even on a motorcycle, it's so obviously clear that that's not Rob Reiner trying to... motorcycle.

Phil Gordon: Yeah. And of course, we we broaden the definition a little bit. Not that everybody had to be a stand -up. We included like... comedy actors, Rob Reiner, in his own right, ah very wellest well recognized as a director, as was his father. ah Carl Reiner, of course, Dave. ah Partner with Mel Brooks.

Phil Gordon: in the classic 2 ,000 -year -old man skits. And in fact, when you there was a beautiful documentary about Rob Reiner. ah following his death, where he talked. They showed him talking about...

Phil Gordon: Him being at home. And Mel Brooks coming over. And this was going on in the living room. You know, the the writing of the 2 ,000 -year -old man. Can you imagine that household?

Dave: Well, we talked about this at the time because Rob Reiner is very good friends with Albert. folks. And we were talking about whether...

Phil Gordon: True.

Dave: What a night it would be to sit down to dinner with Carl Reiner, Rob Reiner. Albert Brooks or Mel Brooks, you you know.

Phil Gordon: Yeah. Now, just for the record, Dave, because we've got a lot of listeners who would not know this and given our subject.

Dave: No.

Phil Gordon: Albert Brooks not related to Mel Brooks. Mel Brooks has a son. who is very well regarded as an author. ah some comedic works, but very though well regarded as an author and a historian.

Phil Gordon: ah very well esteemed. You'll see him occasionally like on PBS or something like that. Uh,

Dave: Well, Albert's name originally was Albert Einstein.

Phil Gordon: Yes.

Dave: And his brother was is Bob Einstein, known as Super Dave Osborne, and a ton of of TV credits too.

Phil Gordon: Yes.

Dave: On and on, buddy.

Phil Gordon: Do you think that caused any issues in grammar school day being named Albert Einstein?

Dave: that' straight

Dave: I'm sure he was happy to change his name.

Phil Gordon: Hey, g a genius, can you help me with my math homework?

Dave: Also... I think it's a half -brother. named Charles Einstein who was a sports writer and I think The first biography I read of Willie Mays was by Charles Einstein.

Dave: How can I do that?

Phil Gordon: another Another fact uncovered here on Laughing Liberally Arizona.

Dave: Yes.

Phil Gordon: We remind our listeners today that...

Dave: Yes, we put it there.

Phil Gordon: yeah

Dave: I just want to say and I've been, coincidentally, I've been watching a lot of the old Dick Van Dyke shows. which Carl Reiner invented and created. and

Phil Gordon: Right?

Dave: And... humorously made a pilot in which he was the Star and the everybody looked at said it's very very funny but you you can't play yourself.

Dave: We gotta get somebody else to be there. to be the the head of the family, that's what this show was called, head of the family originally, before they found Dick Van Dyke. to do this show. But Carl Reiner really came into the public scene on Sid Caesar's Your Show Shows, which Mel Brooks was a writer on too.

Phil Gordon: Of course.

Dave: We have a lot of people work and. And you can see he... The commander wrote, like... ah many, many of the scripts that are... used on the dick van dyke show and so sometimes you'll watch when it gets you get a real sketch feeling to it like this.

Phil Gordon: Oh yeah.

Dave: This was a sketch. you know, and of course Dick Van Dyke Show is also known for having shows where it was they they would first find an excuse to perform. You know, we...

Phil Gordon: Like a Christmas party or something.

Dave: Christmas party or flashback to when they met with the USO and things like that.

Phil Gordon: All right. It had a great ensemble, Dave, with Rosemarie, Maury Amsterdam.

Dave: Let's make sure.

Phil Gordon: ah Dick Van Dyke's brother. Wa 'afu 'alaikum.

Dave: Richard Deacon, fantastic on the show.

Phil Gordon: Richard Deacon, absolutely.

Dave: No. How cool is that?

Phil Gordon: Well...

Dave: and ethicalal

Phil Gordon: I love...

Dave: that's a show Just one more thing. That's just a show that You know, like younger for people today, I mean, you know i you know me, I watch the old man network. I watch, you know. This channel's up on the top end of your dial. that dial ah that run the old reruns and things like that, and I don't think that young people really get into that, but it's just like the Dick Van Dyke Show. it It holds up.

Dave: I mean, there are some

Phil Gordon: Yes.

Dave: Time references. They didn't do a lot of topical stuff, but a lot of time, but it but it really holds up and and If you were to watch it, if you were younger and you were watching it, you might say, well what's the big fuss about? You always have to look at what the rest of TV was at the time. And the rest of the TV at the time was...

Dave: A very standard husband and wife stuff and and you know bickering. or pulling something on each other. this was This was like a show where everybody seemed to respect each other.

Dave: You know? Mary Tyler would the great Mary Tyler Moore of course was

Phil Gordon: Oh, how did we forget?

Dave: Nope.

Phil Gordon: um in her own right, a but great singer, dancer. They would often weave some singing and dancing into the show. Dave, you mentioned ah how well it holds up.

Phil Gordon: Look how well Dick Van Dyke has held up. He just passed his 100th birthday.

Dave: thoughts

Phil Gordon: Makes us feel young, Dave. And you know what? While we mentioned that and the Old Man Network and that, I just want to take a minute. to thank everybody. for finding us on Apple Podcasts. and ah Just a shameless plea, if you would take the time.

Phil Gordon: Like the show. Please review the show and tell your friends about it because that's how we grow audience, how we hopefully will gain some sponsorship. And we just love doing the show for you. So help us out in that way. Like us, review us. We'll take your review.

Phil Gordon: Doesn't have to be a good review. We'll take your review however you however you feel. And we'd love to do it. Dave, let's move on to another great... family, in show business. And of course, this is the...

Phil Gordon: The comedy marriage of great comedy team of Jerry Stiller and Ann Mira. And of course. They have two children that are in show business. One we know better, and that's Ben Stiller.

Phil Gordon: who is in his own right, a very great comedic actor. I don't think does stand up, but. yeah you know, host Saturday Night Live, that sort of effort.

Phil Gordon: And then there's a sister, Amy Stiller. Now, I'm not familiar with Amy Stiller. Are you, Dave?

Dave: Yeah, I know who Amy Stiller is. First of all... The comedy team of Stuart and Mira was... They make a Mount Rushmore of comedy teams, especially man -woman comedy teams.

Phil Gordon: Oh.

Dave: They're their're way at the top. They're so good. Um, Uh... Jerry Stiller, of course, was famous for to younger folks as being frank costanza on seinfeld and when i heard he was on the king of queens

Phil Gordon: Yeah.

Phil Gordon: Yes!

Dave: High five. High five. Oh. That's good for him, but I go yeah he's probably just doing the same character It wasn't the same character at all. hysterically funny. And Amy Stiller, I'm sure she had you know she has a career but she would pop up occasionally as somebody running a uh you know, Starbucks or she would be, heing

Phil Gordon: I see.

Dave: It would have small rolls in it. uh here and there

Phil Gordon: Okay.

Dave: Shabbat shalom.

Phil Gordon: So not that to your knowledge of stand -up.

Dave: No, she's an actress. yes She's an actress.

Phil Gordon: Okay, very good. Your mention of the original... ah ah Stiller and Mirror comedy team. So many great appearances on The Ed Sullivan Show, Dave. And it would always be... Husband and wife humor. And I think there were some record albums there, too.

Dave: they did so They did some bits where they were a couple that was dating. uh A lot of times they would do that. and

Phil Gordon: Yeah.

Dave: you know she was She was Irish Catholic, he was Jewish. That's my... my parents you know then my parents were like think ah more of an interest in it because of that But Ann Mira and Jerry Stiller on their own were always terrific too, whatever they did.

Phil Gordon: ah There you go.

Phil Gordon: Oh, you know. All they needed on Ed Sullivan, Dave, was two stools. and And you had a ah brilliant segment of comedy. Um... Ben Stiller, of course, has made...

Phil Gordon: many wonderful films and continues to be very, very busy. ah If I'm not mistaken, produced a ah Documentary on...

Phil Gordon: Netflix. all about his parents. And that's it.

Dave: Yeah, I did. I didn't see that. I read some reviews and the reviews were kind of... mixed on that sometimes Somebody can be too close to the subject and that's, you know, it doesn't work that way.

Phil Gordon: I see.

Dave: I think that would be what happened there.

Phil Gordon: Well, let's... ah Let's make that our homework, Dave. Why don't we both watch that documentary in our next show? We'll we'll talk about it.

Phil Gordon: Okay, very good. Let's um move on to another. ah Very, very talented family, Dave. It's almost hard to keep track of all the weigh -ins. Damon Wayans, of course, ah the the dad.

Phil Gordon: ah We, we...

Dave: yeah

Phil Gordon: been following his comedy from when he was a pretty young man. But he's grown into show business. He's had a sitcom. I think it might have just. so Was it the Damon Wayans show? There were so many iterations of the show with various family members.

Dave: Yeah, when I saw that...

Phil Gordon: And... um

Dave: this When I saw the name on the list, I thought you were going to ask me, hey, what do you think about this? And my first reaction was... I can't keep the weigh -in straight. I don't know.

Phil Gordon: yeah

Dave: I don't know who's who. There's Amen, and there's Kenan, right? And there's just all these different ways. so

Phil Gordon: That's right. and And there was a...

Dave: Oh no.

Phil Gordon: I think it was called the Wayans Brothers. was a weekly sketch comedy show that had everybody.

Dave: yeah

Phil Gordon: By this time, Damon, the dad. was already a pretty big star, so he was not on that show, but he had his own. sitcom where he was a ah family, yeah kind of a Dick Van Dyke -y kind of show.

Phil Gordon: And that was quite good. And you'll see that ah the name is escaping me at the moment. ah But it was a typical family situation, and it was quite good, actually.

Dave: sky

Phil Gordon: And then...

Dave: was that my Okay.

Phil Gordon: ah

Dave: No. Phil, was that the...

Phil Gordon: Say that again.

Dave: Was that My Wife and Kids? Was that his show, My Wife and Kids?

Phil Gordon: Yes, my wife and kids. Very good, Dave. And you'll see that in syndication quite a bit. It was easy to catch. It was very, very well done, I thought. And ah the Damon Wayans Jr.

Dave: God bless you.

Phil Gordon: is probably the best known. Yeah, Dave?

Dave: I just want to mention that We got to know the Wayans, I think, first in Living Color. we're various ways.

Phil Gordon: Oh!

Dave: It came and went.

Phil Gordon: Why talk about a classic show?

Dave: Okay.

Phil Gordon: Davis, do you do you find in a Living Color on the Old Man Network?

Dave: I think you've gotta go to BET.

Phil Gordon: To BET.

Dave: For that matter.

Phil Gordon: A fabulous show, not to mention so many stars came off of that show, Dave. Jim Carrey. Uh...

Dave: very

Phil Gordon: Jennifer Lopez was one of the fly girls, as I recall, the dancers. That was an exciting show and so... groundbreaking in its day.

Dave: Yeah, it was... um Yeah, like they always compare sketch shows like that to Saturday Night Live and that, but... a little bit color a little more freewheeling a little more urban a little more, I think it pushed the envelope a little bit. and there's hilarious, very funny show.

Dave: yeah

Phil Gordon: Oh, I think it did. If we have young listeners, and I sure hope we have our... you know young comics uh that we

Dave: cramp kids go get your cramp kids.

Phil Gordon: Always had in the audience.

Dave: and watch us.

Phil Gordon: Yes, let's hope they watch us. If they're not familiar with In Living Color... I think they should get familiar with In Living Color. Just an absolutely wonderful show. And to see a young Jim Carrey on that show, Dave.

Phil Gordon: is just priceless. It was maybe an even looser Jim Carrey than we got to know.

Dave: peace

Dave: Yeah.

Phil Gordon: He was just way out there on that show.

Dave: I saw Jim Carrey. I don't know if it was on this show or another clip, but he was amazing. He did a series on impressions. as Great Impressionists. He did a series of impressions when he did nothing but turn his face into the face of, like...

Dave: Clint Eastwood or whoever.

Phil Gordon: um Classic.

Dave: videos. Amazing, but he did stuff on there. There's a hilarious one when he does Good. dating ourselves back to the 90s a vanilla ice spoof.

Phil Gordon: Sure.

Dave: Which is...

Phil Gordon: Sure.

Dave: hilarious and uh no he was he was just great and unstoppable. that kind of yeah

Phil Gordon: Well, as you say that, i his wonderful contortions, and not only with his face, but with his entire body, makes me think of his great film, The Mask.

Dave: so

Phil Gordon: which I thought showcased his talent so well. ah just Just an absolutely wonderful. i i You know, I don't think we've heard the last from Jim Carrey. I think there's a couple of great films yet to come from Jim Carrey.

Dave: I hope not. I mean, I kind of read things that, you know, he's maybe struggling or he's having some issues or something. like I mean, for me, Jim Carrey.

Phil Gordon: Oh.

Dave: You took care of Jonathan Winters, Robin Williams. The really great. comics that can just let it go you know they they seem always to be I'm not joking about this, on the edge of insanity.

Dave: You know, there's it's just right there all the time.

Phil Gordon: Sure.

Dave: and they're push again and you know um you know, just sorry, the stuff that they went through.

Phil Gordon: Yes.

Dave: You know what? you know The art they created was described just great.

Phil Gordon: Always um the the torture of the artist, Dave. and Speaking of being on the edge of insanity, can we talk about John Cleese for a moment? and his daughter, Camillocles.

Dave: <unk>

Phil Gordon: who is a stand -up that you'll see around. ah I've never had the pleasure to see her. ah But I don't. you know, catch on Facebook shows that she's going to be in, I think particularly in the Los Angeles area.

Dave: oh okay good

Phil Gordon: Have you seen Camilla Cleese perform, Dave?

Dave: Not familiar with her so I I can't make it. Well, I can make a judgment. uh i don't know i don't know i mean she's one of those ones that like you know I've never heard of her, but she has the last name Cleese.

Dave: so maybe that opens up doors for her you know when you talk about nepo babies and things You know, like, you know, Ben Stiller, you know, he was a nepo baby, but...

Phil Gordon: Of course.

Dave: So talented that you you know, you can't really say that he's sliding in on that and um but By the way, on another subject way off, you went to see a movie or you watched a movie with ah Margaret Qualley.

Dave: who is the daughter of Andy McDowell.

Phil Gordon: Yes.

Dave: And we were talking about... There are similarities.

Phil Gordon: Not that far off.

Dave: in the

Phil Gordon: ah That was actually a series, Dave, on Netflix. ah And don't expect comedy there. This was not funny in any way. It was ah about a struggling single mom, but she's a very marvelous actress. and I didn't know that she was the daughter.

Dave: Sorry, I will. I went outside. I'm gonna, I'm gonna... ancient there, but you know it's Any chance I get to think about Margaret Qualley?

Phil Gordon: That's all right. I think it's an appropriate tangent, Dave. It's ah all in the world of entertainment. and and And as you mentioned, her mom is Andy McDowell and Andy McDowell plays her mom.

Phil Gordon: in this series. And it's good to see her. We haven't seen her for a while, or at least I haven't. ah they at Once I... Saw her and you told me this ah that that Andy McDowell was her mom. I don't know how I missed it because their the resemblance is is huge.

Phil Gordon: the the face, the smile. They're both very lovely.

Dave: It was kind of...

Phil Gordon: Andy McDowell, for those that... might not be tracking right away, was in the wonderful ah movie with Bill Murray, Dave, Groundhog Day. It was probably her most famous role, I think.

Dave: They're probably. everybody else groundhog day. I think so.

Phil Gordon: Yeah. Well, while we're talking about ah classic comics like John Cleese, we could do a couple of shows on John Cleese and Monty Python alone. But a contemporary of his.

Phil Gordon: ah the great Richard Pryor, Dave, his daughter. Rain Pryor is quite well known. ah She does do stand -up comedy, but she does a lot more than that. She's a writer. I think she has a one -person show that's been very popular. She's very well regarded as a writer, actress, comic.

Dave: Yeah, I've seen.

Phil Gordon: And.

Dave: Been here a few times. Although... It's kind of a trap for her because it seems like if she's ever on a talk show or something, they all always want to talk about her dad. and you know she's kind of you know but she's

Phil Gordon: Of course.

Dave: She succeeded on her own, but, you know, it's kind of... being you know richard pryor's daughter is going to have some baggage to it.

Phil Gordon: Right. And as I recall, having read the Richard Pryor's biography, he had quite a few kids. ah And she's ah the most famous and the only one I think that's in entertainment. And let's go back, Dave, to in the mode of Stiller and Mira.

Phil Gordon: the kids that work more in film and TV than just stand -up. a Goldie Hawn, of course. ah who we love. um originally Dave ah from a Laugh -In.

Phil Gordon: When we' we're turning the clock back. ah So she certainly was involved in. uh comedy and then many great films so I've been you know, light romantic films, comedies in their own way, but a very good actress, Goldie Hawn.

Phil Gordon: and There are two... Two ah kids of hers. We all know Kate Hudson. her lovely daughter, who also resembles her a great deal. and there's

Dave: ah

Phil Gordon: a Pretty big star these days. I think currently. a series on Netflix where she plays a... yeah owner of a sports team. of a basketball team.

Phil Gordon: And it's quite interesting. I've seen a few episodes. And then there's another listing for a son, Oliver Hudson. Are you familiar with Oliver Hudson?

Dave: Well, I... Don't know if i May be wrong on this, but I thought that there were the Hudson brothers years ago with TV show and if he was one of the Hudson brothers, I don't know for sure about that.

Phil Gordon: Oh!

Dave: I could be wrong on that.

Phil Gordon: Okay, I'm not sure of that either, Dave. Hang on, I have a couple of... ah Notes here. ah Oliver just mentions stars in various television sitcoms, so you might be right there.

Phil Gordon: ah Kate Hudson, probably her. ah First big film was How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days. ah But she's gone on to make many films. she's so She's pretty big box office, Kate Hudson.

Dave: Yeah, Phil, I would say I think that the real ah breakthrough for her was Almost Famous. where she was a groupie and kind of the main woman and remember almost famous

Phil Gordon: Oh of course. A very, very interesting film.

Dave: All right.

Phil Gordon: and certainly not a comedy. um ah She's very good, Kate Hudson.

Dave: Yeah, and she looks a lot like her mom.

Phil Gordon: And continues, as I say. ah continues to work on that series on, it might be called Hoops or something like that. but it's about a basketball team that she owns.

Dave: yeah um

Phil Gordon: ah Dave, last, let's...

Dave: I was wrong.

Phil Gordon: ah

Dave: I was wrong about Oliver Hudson. He had nothing to do with the Hudson.

Phil Gordon: Oh!

Dave: Brothers. which uh

Phil Gordon: Okay.

Dave: it's too bad because the hudson brothers was a terrible show and was like it's fun to talk about. But yeah, Oliver Hudson, and he's about... 50 years old now and he was on Nashville for a while, Scream Queen, a lot of TV shows, as you mentioned.

Dave: uh

Dave: Yeah, but born to I think his father was one of the Hudson brothers. Hudson Brothers was a...

Phil Gordon: Oh!

Dave: Saturday morning live -action animated show with the musical group. the Hudson Brothers, but it was, you know.

Phil Gordon: I see.

Dave: Yep.

Phil Gordon: Okay.

Dave: Hello.

Phil Gordon: Well, there's there's so much out there, Dave.

Dave: That's what he was wondering.

Phil Gordon: So much out there. um And let's ah let's end it on kind of an interesting note.

Dave: Bye -bye.

Phil Gordon: We talk about all these celebrities ah in the comedy world and then they're... children, how about Two great comics whose children got married, Dave.

Phil Gordon: And I'm talking about Eddie Murphy and Martin Lawrence. And while their children are focused primarily on stand -up, Eddie Murphy's son, Eric. and Martin Lawrence's daughter, Jasmine.

Phil Gordon: Tie the knot. ah They officially merged from two of the great 90s dynasties and are married. And I think ah perform.

Phil Gordon: And I'm not too familiar with them, but I thought that was a a note of interest that they would get married. And we'll see. We'll see if that works, Dave. ah When comedy genes get together, if it produces. even greater comedy.

Dave: all right by the way uh Also, ah Eddie Murphy had... A lot of kids. Okay.

Phil Gordon: Yes.

Dave: a lot of a lot of children do.

Phil Gordon: Okay, so it was... ah Quite likely that one of them would marry a child of Martin Lawrence.

Dave: We'll be right back. He had so many, you know.

Phil Gordon: Do you think maybe you could bet on this on Kelshi, Dave? and

Dave: like I said, marriage is going to last, you mean?

Phil Gordon: if I don't know if you get very good odds on that. uh Dave, that concludes this segment. Of course, if we learn of other... ah Great comics that they have kids that are performing comedy. We'll bring it up again.

Phil Gordon: It'll always have interest to me. And I hope it was of interest to our audience. You're listening to Laughing Liberally Arizona with Dave Margolis and Phil Gordon. We're so glad that you joined us.

Phil Gordon: Dave, a segment that was so popular. on our Is This On radio show that people always ask about. s if we're going to continue it. And that is special days of the new month.

Phil Gordon: That's good.

Dave: I gotta put my cheaters on here, Phil. Exactly.

Phil Gordon: That's okay.

Dave: Thanks for watching!

Phil Gordon: At our age, Dave, you can't promise that you won't fall down, but not on your responsibility.

Dave: As you can see, the type is a little small here. I need these glasses.

Phil Gordon: ah

Dave: That's a good thought.

Phil Gordon: yeah

Dave: Okay.

Phil Gordon: All right, the special days of September. Dave.

Dave: Did you see Trump the other day? He was being interviewed about a children's book. You could tell he had never read a children's book in his life. Thanks. this one.

Phil Gordon: Do you think children's books were read out loud to him?

Dave: oh

Phil Gordon: by Fred Trump.

Dave: No, his parents hated him. and I think, you know... everybody being aware of his incontinence, which, you know. It's been a topic. I don't think he's incontinent. I just think his parents refused to train him.

Dave: They use the toilet.

Phil Gordon: Yeah.

Dave: they didn't like They want to be with him.

Phil Gordon: Dave, can I speculate? Are you saying that... Everything in this world would be different today. had his parents read him green eggs and ham.

Dave: Absolutely. If they showed any affection for him at all. I wouldn't say we've done that wrong.

Phil Gordon: There you go. This is what happens, folks. Read those If you have young kids out there.

Dave: Thank you. Yeah. Be careful, kids. You might end up being president. We don't want that. September 1st was the birthday of Zendaya. You know Zendaya, right? the yeah

Phil Gordon: Please.

Dave: Lovely actress. she's um

Phil Gordon: Now I'm all ears, Dave.

Dave: It's...

Phil Gordon: what Where can we see Zendaya next?

Dave: that She was... ah She was a Disney star, and in which she was a dancer, and she's a very good dancer. and i i remember early on in her career she was on dancing with the stars and i go That's not really fair because I've seen her dance and she's really good.

Dave: and uh yeah very beautiful uh

Phil Gordon: Very beautiful.

Dave: She wears clothes well. She always looks like that.

Phil Gordon: Whew.

Dave: Like the dress was made for her and And she seemed to be, that you know, but other people are, but pretty down to earth and pretty, you know, have a good sense of humor.

Phil Gordon: Yes. there And has has had some pretty popular films, Dave. There was the one all about tennis, right? where she was dating two tennis stars at the same time.

Dave: Right? Yes.

Dave: And. Euphoria! It's good.

Phil Gordon: Euphoria, right. I was gonna say, Dave, it must be a challenge juggling those tennis balls.

Dave: issue for now

Dave: Willie. I'm sure they had advisories on the set.

Phil Gordon: Okay.

Dave: September 2nd, the birthday of... 60th birthday, Selma Hayek. Uh,

Phil Gordon: Selma Hayek. Also a very attractive actress.

Dave: So long. 60 years old. She does not look 60 years old but she's 60 years old now. uh September 3rd, in addition to being the birthday of Phil Gordon,

Dave: It was also the birthday of Charlie.

Phil Gordon: Thank you.

Dave: Charlie Sheen.

Phil Gordon: Wow, Charlie Sheen. that That's not the only thing I have in common with Charlie Sheen, Dave. We...

Dave: Are you?

Phil Gordon: We both enjoy a nice...

Dave: Are you ready?

Phil Gordon: ah We both enjoy a nice long line of Coke.

Dave: and I let a tiger blood cocktail to wash it down.

Phil Gordon: Sure, sure.

Dave: So, welcome. It seems, you know, back in the day, and I don't know how long ago, was you know, Charlie Sheen, I mean. He was like every day in the news for just you know too many drugs and just being wild crazy and saying stupid things and It seems like he's pulled himself back together, which is nice to see. You never want anybody just to go, you know...

Phil Gordon: That's right.

Dave: Chris Fargo. the route or something like that and i think i think he's doing better now but you know part of the you know mark sheen is his dad emilio estevez his brother and And Charlie Sheen is done.

Phil Gordon: Right.

Dave: He's done some really good shows. He's done some good movies. I thought he was great in Eight Men Out. using

Phil Gordon: Yes, she was.

Dave: platoon prerequisite in platoon as well

Phil Gordon: Yes, Placuti was in. ah Can I just say one word, Dave? Winning!

Dave: Yeah, he's always winning So that was September 3rd. You know his birthday today? and Not today. We don't know when people are going to watch this. We're September 4th.

Phil Gordon: Right.

Dave: Now.

Phil Gordon: We're recording it on September 5th.

Dave: Peace out. is um I think I have this right because I do right now but I think it's the birthday of Bob Newhart.

Phil Gordon: Oh!

Dave: And I think it's also the birthday of Ken the Hawk Harrelson.

Phil Gordon: Wow.

Dave: You're big.

Phil Gordon: Ah, you did send me a Facebook post about that. Kendall Hawk Harrelson, of course. A great. Major League outfielder with the Boston Red Sox, Kansas City A's at the time before they moved to Oakland.

Phil Gordon: And then was the broadcaster for the Chicago White Sox for. I'm going to say, Dave, like over 30 years.

Dave: That's it. Yeah.

Phil Gordon: just recently retired is in the Hall of Fame as a broadcaster, Dave.

Dave: That's amazing.

Phil Gordon: Though he was a very fine player.

Dave: yeah Yep.

Phil Gordon: ah Part of that great 1968 Red Sox so World Series victory team. Uh... certainly should have gotten a lot of consideration as going in as a player as well.

Dave: We always get into this, Phil.

Phil Gordon: yeah Let's get into it. da We have 20 minutes left.

Dave: I think... I don't know It's numbers by the way know we You and I go, okay, Harrelson. not Not that well known, not known as ah like a maze mantle or anything like that. but he was involved in a lot of controversy.

Dave: I'm sorry.

Phil Gordon: Oh yeah.

Dave: How he ended up in Boston is because he ticked off. Charlie Finley, the famous owner of the A's back then.

Phil Gordon: Right.

Dave: Yes. going there and he uh yeah yeah the hawk he you know he went his own way you know he he marched to his own driver

Phil Gordon: He did. I think I might have a little insight into that controversy in Oakland, Dave. If you remember, ah Charlie Finley. had a mascot.

Phil Gordon: at the Oakland A's, which was a mule. And I believe he asked... Ken Harrelson to ride the mule. around the perimeter of the ballpark.

Phil Gordon: ah Between games of a doubleheader. And the hawk refused.

Dave: That was it.

Phil Gordon: And I think that led to his trade.

Dave: Yeah. we We'll have to do a segment on Charlie Finley at some point.

Phil Gordon: Oh, gotcha.

Dave: I love you. He was... You know, he was known as kind of being like a pain in the ass to a lot of people and and all that, but he came up with some... innovations that It stuck, you know?

Dave: sort the baseball uniforms. It used to be...

Phil Gordon: Okay.

Dave: White at home? gray on the road and he came out with like these kind of kind of garish but these uniform a lot of use a lot of color Kelly, Golden Kelly Green and He also...

Phil Gordon: And I believe, Dave, but it was matched with what was known as wedding gown white.

Dave: Right, yeah, the white and uniforms they had too. And...

Phil Gordon: Yeah.

Dave: Of course, he had the... He was also controversial because when free agency started to exist, he If you remember this, he sold off his top players, you know getting a million dollars or something for them.

Dave: And that's when the commissioner stepped in and says, well, no, you can't do that. and There really wasn't any reason why he couldn't do it. They just didn't want him to do it. you know but yeah he was

Phil Gordon: Right.

Dave: He came up with the idea of like orange, remember the orange baseball that he was he was kind of campaigning for?

Phil Gordon: I do recall that. You know, he had a kindred spirit at the time who was a fellow owner, and that was Bill Veck.

Dave: ah yeah

Phil Gordon: who was the owner of the White Sox. And those two were very good friends and supportive of each other, but not well liked by the other owners.

Dave: Right. Yeah, let me do it. It really was a battle. The thing about Ken Harrelson, I didn't know the numbers, but I have them here. 239 lifetimes though. Uh, And he really had a couple of big seasons, and I think he was in the news. He was controversial. but i I'm sorry to say I don't think...

Dave: I would even... take Roger Maris before I would take Ken Aronson.

Phil Gordon: yeah

Phil Gordon: Dave up A note before you we leave Ken Harrelson. He was in the spirit of... ah the The previous person we were talking about.

Phil Gordon: The. the actor. uh who had his drug problems and drinking problems.

Dave: Ciao Lucia!

Phil Gordon: Uh, Right. Uh, Ken Harrelson had quite the wild ah group of friends. You know, he paled around with Mickey Mantle, Billy Martin. And, you know, I've listened to enough. White Sox games over those 30 years.

Phil Gordon: ah During like maybe the second game of a doubleheader. The Hawk would get into some of those nights he spent with Mickey Mantle and Billy Martin. And they seemed like they were pretty wild. ah drinkers back in the day.

Dave: Now young baseball fans... have no idea. like you and i were we talked about this one time like the the teams had announcers for 20, 30, 40 years And the broadcasts were, they there were they were more fun.

Dave: there weren't so much talk about statistics and you know the pitch shape and things like that. But I think there were more than a few. announcers in those days who would have a beer or two during the game.

Dave: And I think I always kind of felt like Joe Nuxall was a Reds announcer. I always thought he was a little tipsy.

Phil Gordon: Right. Harry Carey always seemed pretty well schnockered by the second game of a doubleheader.

Dave: Yeah. But they were fun. They were fun.

Phil Gordon: Oh, great fun. Great fun.

Dave: trademarks. Yeah.

Phil Gordon: Yeah.

Dave: That's great. see

Phil Gordon: Dave, you're going to continue with the special days in September.

Dave: gotten ju i oh Yep, I am. I've got on the 5th of September, Michael Keaton, the great comic actor Michael Keaton.

Phil Gordon: Oh, yeah.

Dave: whose whose name originally was I think Michael Douglas and he had to change it because of Michael Douglas. and

Phil Gordon: I was not aware of this.

Dave: ah ah Tomorrow, 9 -5, that's ah Bob Newhart's tomorrow, to September 5th. if you're watching this. And I can never, I didn't even have to look this one up, Phil. I have never forgotten. September 5th is the birthday of the late Raquel Welch.

Phil Gordon: Whoa!

Dave: Oops.

Phil Gordon: VA VA VA VOOM DEV!

Dave: just So much helped me through puberty, I can't even say. And I remember her birthday because I was... It was the same day in 1969. ah Tom Seaver was getting his 20th win.

Dave: And I remember it was Raquel Lutcher's birthday, too. And I go, well, I'll never forget those those students. um tomorrow nine September is the actor Idris Elba, you know, from... Um,

Dave: The wire? Is he in the wire? or we're um And what's the other one?

Phil Gordon: Well, he's he's also been talked about as the next James Bond, Dave.

Dave: pocor Don't walk away. Yep, yep. yeah He also had a... memorable arc on the...

Dave: The Office. Idris Elba when he was a replacement for Michael Scott. And he was like. Idris Elba played a character who was like all business very serious and all business all the time and and Obviously, they they they'd rather have Michael Jackson back in there. so that was good a good a few episodes there leave yourself Um, September 9th, I only got a couple more here. September 9th is not only my sister Ellen's birthday.

Dave: but also the birthday of Adam Sandler. September 9th.

Phil Gordon: Dave, ah before you complete the list of birthdays. A little surprise for our audience. so We were talking politics earlier in the show, and we often do. ah We were not sure that he'd be able to join us, but the great democratic political strategist, he was the campaign manager for President Bill Clinton, James Carville.

Phil Gordon: has agreed to join us. He's just arrived at our Laughing Liberally studios. I'm going to go help him in.

Dave: Thank you.

Phil Gordon: while you finish the birthdays, Dave.

Dave: I'll go out' fill some time here. Yeah. Oh, that's great. part That'd be fun. Okay.

Phil Gordon: Yeah, ah Mr.

Dave: All right.

Phil Gordon: Carville.

Dave: Okay, as I mentioned guys, September 9th is not only my sister's birthday. But the birthday of Adam Sandler, and I think Adam Sandler was born in 19... I think it's 165.

Dave: I always remember the date, September 9th, because it's my sister's birthday. and Sandy Kovacs.

Phil Gordon: All right, well, right here? All right, right here.

Dave: Let's do it.

Phil Gordon: yeah Okay, yeah right here.

Dave: Thanks for tweeting.

Phil Gordon: Oh!

Dave: I'm finishing up.

Phil Gordon: What? That warm.

Dave: Mr.

Phil Gordon: That will fill my spin set.

Dave: Cardinal, how great to see you. How great to see you. Do you have...

Phil Gordon: You want to put these on?

Dave: Do you have Nui with you?

Phil Gordon: Here I am. Hello, Dave.

Dave: Do you have nudie with you?

Phil Gordon: Hello!

Dave: Can you hear me?

Phil Gordon: Ah, you seem to be a little bit frozen there, Dave.

Dave: oh really im Frozen? Yeah. You were you were blanking blanking out a little bit, but it was very brief, so I didn't say anything. but

Phil Gordon: Hello! Here's James Carville. Right here on Latin Liberal Arizona. You seem to be back now, Dave.

Dave: oh

Phil Gordon: Hello. You're back.

Dave: Can you hear me? Okay.

Phil Gordon: I can hear you now. We were looking at you.

Dave: he

Phil Gordon: You look frozen out there.

Dave: Do I push? My question to you was, did you bring nudie along?

Phil Gordon: I did bring nudie. Nudie's around here somewhere. Hang on. Let me call him. Knew that! NEO DARE!

Dave: ah yes

Phil Gordon: Yeah.

Dave: You guys.

Phil Gordon: Oh.

Dave: said Nudie is, uh... Mr. Gingrich's pet alligator. named after Newt Gingrich

Phil Gordon: ah Well, I named New Day after Gingrich. He's my Halligan, Dave. I knew they'd look up for everybody. Show me your belly there. I got the harness on you today because...

Phil Gordon: He can get away, and it's not pretty when he does. I'll tell you, earlier today, Dave, I hate i hate to say this to you, it pains me, but he ate another mailman.

Phil Gordon: Yeah, and of course.

Dave: i was like

Phil Gordon: ah

Dave: I was going to say that when you held him up like that, i it looks like nudie has not been neutered. so

Phil Gordon: No, no. New Day is very popular in the female alligator of community, Dave. Oh.

Dave: Litigators. uh

Phil Gordon: ah Good to be here. Good to be here. How you boys been?

Dave: Oh, fantastic. Oh, Phil just left. I can see.

Phil Gordon: I want him to help me in here.

Dave: That's true.

Phil Gordon: I'm taking his seat. Let me tell you, that seat is hot, brother.

Dave: We're doing great, and let me tell you, Mr. Carville, we are in and in. fascinating time of Well, we're we're living the the Chinese toast, you know, may you live in interesting times.

Dave: We're living in them and it's a curse. in Many ways.

Phil Gordon: oh i I thought you were talking about some kind of Chinese toast like Wonder Bread or something.

Dave: Alright. It tastes like, a you know. jeers kind of thing, yeah. oh

Phil Gordon: Yeah. Yeah. Nudie loves to. Nudie can drink, let me tell you something. We'll put away a pot of bourbon.

Dave: What are you saying? Yeah.

Phil Gordon: just in a limo on the way down here, Dave.

Dave: he's

Phil Gordon: Uh...

Dave: He's a southern dude. that they drink. yeah

Phil Gordon: Oh, so good good to be here with you and Phil in Arizona. You know, I'm going to do some work. ah for Governor Hobbs.

Dave: Oh yeah.

Phil Gordon: Uh, yeah, yeah. I said, that I noticed, Dave, ah what appeared to be to me a lot of Nazis in town. I said, oh, there must be a doorbell ringing for Andy Biggs.

Dave: Uh... Yeah, I was going to ask you something. and I'm not really that familiar with it, but you know you know you know everything about politics all over the country. Um,

Phil Gordon: I've been around, Dave.

Dave: I got this guy here. Juan Siscamani.

Phil Gordon: Oh yeah.

Dave: I don't know what you...

Phil Gordon: What's Cisco money?

Dave: I don't know much about him, but whenever I see anything on him, he seems to be like, what do they say, an empty suit. There's not going to be anything there. And I heard him boasting about his immigrant background when his family came over the country 20 years ago.

Dave: And I couldn't help but think.

Phil Gordon: Yeah, yeah

Dave: It was helpful.

Phil Gordon: Uh...

Dave: Trump was president when when your family came here. You wouldn't be here now. you Give me. Mexico or wherever you came from, you know But he's a big supporter of of Trump. Is he going to win?

Phil Gordon: Well, i looking at those numbers, you know, I'm working with the entire ah Arizona Democratic Party. And as he's running against a Hispanic candidate also.

Phil Gordon: So I think they'll try to maybe negate some of that because he's in. you know uh that that district has a lot of pima county at tucson A good part of Tucson is in that district.

Phil Gordon: And so, you know, they can't. Those two can't get to enough Taco Tuesday events, Dave, I'll tell you that.

Dave: Well, I see.

Phil Gordon: It's a close race.

Dave: I'll see you.

Phil Gordon: It's going to be a very close race. it's so you know, uh, Uh, you know, uh, tries to portray himself as a very conservative, very respectable man.

Phil Gordon: ah I've heard otherwise, you know, and I go back, Dave, as you know. I was a campaign manager for Bill Clinton. originally for his successful presidential run.

Phil Gordon: I had the wand build, you know. ah I told Bill two important things, Dave. uh when he was running. What I said, it's the economy, is stupid. A lot of people know that And the other thing I used to say to them all the time. I say zip up your pants, man.

Phil Gordon: Okay. I'll tell you something, he's used to send out the Arkansas Secret Service to scout out women. Dave. But that's another story.

Phil Gordon: You'll have me back on, you know, maybe when I see you.

Dave: i he about What I know about Siskamani is he's got his signs. everywhere and i got to tell you my middle finger is exhausted

Phil Gordon: Oh, yeah, he does have a lot of signs as soon as that Andy Biggs.

Dave: fish

Phil Gordon: ah you You can see him. He's got the giant letters and then the big swastikas. I'm sad, dude. Newtie is nodding. nudie's not and he remembers being with bill clinton nudie was a baby Baby Alligator know what i when I was with Bill Clinton.

Dave: over and over again.

Phil Gordon: I think yeah he bit.

Dave: ah built

Phil Gordon: Yeah.

Dave: It was a great weekend for me.

Phil Gordon: New Day won't spit Hillary Clinton in the ass.

Dave: Was it consensual?

Phil Gordon: ah Well, you know, there's all those rumors about her too, Dave. You know, i don't I don't want to get into that right now, you know. um Anyway... I'm here working on it. I think it's going to be a very close race.

Phil Gordon: I think it's going to be a big turnout. race so She's got to get out there. A lot of good people out there. Hmm The ah good folks are coming out for Gabby Giffords. I was at an event the other evening with Gabby Giffords and, of course, her husband, the senator.

Phil Gordon: ah Working for the Gonzalez. the Democratic candidate. So we're trying to get the vote out, Dave.

Dave: Can't do it.

Phil Gordon: And. Go ahead.

Dave: I think I have some questions for you here, but hang on just a second.

Phil Gordon: Okay.

Dave: Thanks.

Phil Gordon: Hold on, Nudie. Sit, boy. Dude is nervous, Dave. He doesn't like the hot lights.

Dave: He used to join us on the radio all the time. you know

Phil Gordon: Oh yeah yeah yeah.

Dave: You have a problem.

Phil Gordon: And then it was at what you guys ah were in the theater. We used to come to the theater with you, the Tim Theater. Tucson improvisation movement.

Dave: yeah that was yeah

Phil Gordon: Nudie and Nudie appeared live there, Dave.

Dave: think that's right

Phil Gordon: And he was very popular.

Dave: We're going to lose him.

Phil Gordon: People loved Nudie. and

Dave: I'm not sure I'm going to... So... finding the questions here why don't you give yours

Phil Gordon: Okay?

Dave: Why don't you give us your thoughts on the midterm elections in general? because Everybody seems to think it's going to be a big democratic wave. I'm not get that confident, you know. ah Because when you know Trump's losing a lot of support But he's the people, you know, he's losing support of people. You can't really count on them to vote Democratic. Remember, these are people who thought Trump was fit to be president. I don't trust them if they were that stupid once.

Dave: I don't trust him after all.

Phil Gordon: Well.

Dave: But let let what are your thoughts?

Phil Gordon: Well, you... you You make a good point there, Dave. ah You know, it's always shocking to me how many... How many diehard supporters?

Phil Gordon: Trump has, although many of them are dying off. you know he's He just turned 80.

Dave: Yeah.

Phil Gordon: A lot of his supporters are even older than he is. So they may not make it to the ball to the polling place. that That's not just because ICE won't let them get there. That's because they they're too old.

Dave: lot

Phil Gordon: They may not get there. You know, a Nudy, by the way, is 300 years old. ah These alligators live a long time, especially the Arkansas alligators. they I love it. Before we get too into it, to put in a big plug with the big football, basketball season coming up for LSU, the Tigers.

Phil Gordon: And we love to go to those games, Nudie and I.

Dave: earth You're a fan. Right. I've been with you.

Phil Gordon: Oh, big fan, Nudie. Nudie, big fan. You know, if if the... ah If the Tigers are losing, David, halftime. Doody will try to bite the head off that quarterback.

Dave: Now that's a fan.

Phil Gordon: Shit. They call them a secret weapon. in the LSU Tiger locker room. ah But I'm decked out. I got my LSU cap and shirt on, Dave, and it's the season. you know But ah these MAGA types.

Phil Gordon: I gotta say, the way I looks at it is... You know, he's got the total mag of support. I think maybe even some of them. have ah drifted off because they don't.

Phil Gordon: Oddly enough, they don't like the Epstein stuff. you know they They wanted Epstein prosecuted you know because he was part of that whole... ah you know, cabal of preying on children.

Phil Gordon: ah You know, um if you recall, he accused Hillary Clinton of that. And.

Dave: Um,

Phil Gordon: i'

Dave: One thing I'd like...

Phil Gordon: So Selma, they're not crazy about that, Dave.

Dave: One thing I'd like to ask you. Can you move? duty either. up or down because right now It kind of looks... I cannot do that.

Phil Gordon: Move it!

Dave: looked like now It kind of looked like you were brandishing your penis there.

Phil Gordon: I see.

Dave: Is it just coming back?

Phil Gordon: How about that? I think you got that snooty eyeball right there, Dave.

Dave: Maybe you could get on your shoulder or something and be

Phil Gordon: All right, dude, hop up there, boy.

Dave: You kind of lock in there a little bit.

Phil Gordon: Bigger. How's that?

Dave: So, yeah, it's good. You know, I'm really sorry. because I don't know what happened. I can't find the questions, but we're going to go ahead.

Phil Gordon: That's all right.

Dave: and

Phil Gordon: I don't have much time, Dave. I've got to run. New Day, one thing you don't want to be is late for lunch with New Day. Because then you're going to lose mailman.

Dave: think

Phil Gordon: Amazon drivers, you know.

Dave: don Okay.

Phil Gordon: yeah the

Dave: Don't they say that in your part of the country it gets a bit peckish?
