Exploring Cleansing, Charging, and Banishing

00:00:36
Speaker
Hi, and welcome to Get a Loser We're Doing Witchcraft. For today's episode, we are discussing cleansing, charging, and vanishing. While these topics can be discussed at length in three different episodes, we decided to put them together because they are all related. Because of this, we broke today's episode down into three sections, and we're going to start by talking about cleansing.

What is Cleansing and Why is it Important?

00:01:00
Speaker
So what is cleansing? Cleansing is relieving an object of chaotic and mixed energies, often absorbed while in a store or surrounded and touched by other people. A form of cleansing could be using sea salt or spring water. These are good for immersing an object to clear out any extraneous energies and then toss out that water and salt into which the energies have been absorbed into.
00:01:28
Speaker
Cleansing is kind of your spiritual housekeeping. It's the act of cleansing your space physically and spiritually, and this helps to keep your space kind of high vibrational and gets rid of any of your stagnant energy. A basic cleansing schedule would be cleanse your person every couple of days, cleanse your space about one time a week, and then cleanse your altar space or just your whole house in general one time a month.
00:01:57
Speaker
Some other basic guidelines too for cleansing is you could cleanse at the beginning of a new year when you're doing any sort of spring cleaning. So in bulk would be a great time to do this. You can cleanse to just anytime you feel any sort of negative energy in your space.

Spiritual Cleansing vs. Traditional Cleaning

00:02:17
Speaker
And that could be after sickness, after an argument or extreme emotional event or a loss, anytime you're moving into a new space, these are all great times.
00:02:27
Speaker
to cleanse your space, your home and your person. I like that you brought up spring cleaning because this is something that like.
00:02:36
Speaker
non-witchy people do also too, right? Like spring comes around and they're like, oh, I need a spring clean. And they'll do some like the deep cleaning jobs that you don't do every day or every week. So they'll like wipe their baseboards down or like go through and declutter and get rid of clothes, those kinds of things. We try to do that on the schedule of like spring and fall. We do like spring cleaning, fall cleaning kind of thing.
00:03:01
Speaker
So I like that you brought that up. And then the like after sickness or negative space, we do that. If that we all come in the house and be like, I don't feel stagnant in here. And we'll just open all of our windows or doors or whatever. Or I do it a lot too when my husband travels a lot for work. So when he's gone, I'll like, take the time that week since it's just me and I have a lot of downtime to like open up all my windows and doors and just kind of
00:03:29
Speaker
deep clean the house. And it's nice too for him. He comes to a nice clean house. Yeah. And well, and I feel like too, it just puts you in like a different head space too. Yeah. It's just amazing. Well, and that's kind of, we talked about it in the last episode in meditation, like if you need a meditation space, like make sure that space is decluttered, it's clean, make sure there's fresh air flow. So these kind of tie into that as well. It really does.

Methods of Cleansing

00:03:57
Speaker
So what are some types of cleansing that you can use for this? There is smoke cleansing, sound cleansing, where you use bells, energetic cleansing, where you use your own energy to clear your space. This one I don't know a whole lot about. I've never done it myself. It was noted that it's not for beginners, but it was something that I found and I found interesting too. Just literal cleaning, like
00:04:24
Speaker
Scrub your baseboards, you know, sweep and mop your floors. Get like all the little cracks and crevices that you don't clean like daily or weekly. Spend, you know, doing that like maybe twice a year. Cleansing baths with herbs and salts for your person, which you can also do if you don't have a bathtub in the shower. Crystal cleansing. So using crystals like selenite are known as like your cleansing crystal. Dancing.
00:04:50
Speaker
Charge schedules with intent by carving them into candles and then burning them or you can even write them like on a piece of paper and burn them as well. Those are just some examples of course there's like a bajillion different out there, but these are ones that I found kind of more information on that would be.
00:05:06
Speaker
more common and then easier for just your everyday beginner person to use minus the energy cleansing. So do's and don'ts of cleansing.

Ethical Cleansing Practices

00:05:16
Speaker
Do use ethically sourced products. Do cleanse before any protections are applied because you don't want to apply protections and then cleanse and then have those energies bouncing back in your space off your protections.
00:05:29
Speaker
Do cleanse often, especially if your space feels stagnant to you, and then don't culturally appropriate or use unethically sourced materials like white sage. This is something that you can go back to our cultural appropriation episode to learn a little more about.
00:05:47
Speaker
One way you can amplify cleansing is to cleanse with the elements. So an example of this would be using the element water. You could do floor washes like Florida water or creating your own with herbs, baths and showers, or using magical or blessed waters like holy moon or spring water to help cleanse your items. With herbal infused baths or showers, bath bombs, bath teas, lemon is a great cleanser too that you can add to these.
00:06:16
Speaker
You can do this with like a, what do they call it? Like a sachet? Sash? Achol? Run through all the words. A sachet. I think it's called a sachet. I think it's called a sachet. Yeah. Yeah. You can fill one of those with whatever cleansing herbs you want to use, like rosemary, lemon zest, or you can just put slices of lemon in the water too. These are all great ways to add it to your baths or even steeping them in your floor washes.
00:06:46
Speaker
I actually, so today, took a bath with some dried flowers. And I was like, oh, you know, I'm gonna put them in a sachet. And then I was like, nah.
00:07:00
Speaker
And then I was like, well, maybe I'll use like my tea diffuser. And then I was like, no, I was too lazy to get on the stairs. So I just poured it in the water, which is fine, but then at the end of the bath, I'm like trying to scoop it all out. Like I need to find like, I just, I think what I'm gonna do, cause I'm too lazy honestly to do like the whole sashay thing. I'm gonna buy like a strainer thing for my bathtub. Yeah, for the drain. To catch all the flowers. That way they're not going down the drain.
00:07:29
Speaker
And that way they can just take it and dump it. I know for me, like I use muslin bags that I got. We have a cute little shop in St. Louis called Forest and Meadow. I absolutely love them. They have every herb, flower, mushroom, like every known man in their store. And you can just go in and buy them by like the weight.
00:07:49
Speaker
So I shop from there a lot and they carry little muslin bags for your bath tees, which I think is super cute. So I do that, but I'm also the type of person that I want it in the water with me too. So I'll pick out like bigger chunks. Like if I'm using hops or like a flower, I'll pick some of the whole like bigger pieces to float in the bath. And then I put the smaller little pieces that'll be too hard to like
00:08:15
Speaker
dig out of the bath at the end before I drink my water into the muslin bag. Oh, that's a really good idea. I need to actually order from them.
00:08:25
Speaker
We should have found it before we left. I know. I know. I only found them recently, like within the last year because they were at one of the markets that we went to. I think it was the maze night market. And I was like, oh my gosh, who is this store? And we ended up buying a bunch of bitters and teas and shrubs. They do like, um, elder berry syrup and they do a local pollen syrup for allergies. They're fantastic.
00:08:52
Speaker
That is amazing. I'm just putting it into my search bar right now. So cleansing with water is amazing, but just make sure that if you are cleansing items, such as crystals, you research what the best way to cleanse it is because some crystals can be cleansed in water, but others like black tourmaline cannot be cleansed with water because it will just completely ruin the crystal and it will fall apart. Yeah.
00:09:17
Speaker
But water is an amazing element to use and your cleansing rituals. And one of my favorite things to do and what I'm assuming most people do whenever they're cleansing with water, especially if they're like, it doesn't have to even be something small like cleansing crystals. It can be like when you're cleansing yourself or cleansing your home, you either hold the object or visualize the object or the space or your person.
00:09:46
Speaker
and you visualize the water cleansing the negative energy out of the space or off of you or off of the object. And as long as you hold that intention and you visualize it, like water is an amazing cleanser. Yeah. And I think that's a good point too. And I do have that later in my notes when it comes to like salt cleansing, just to make sure whatever form of cleansing you're doing is safe for your environment, for the object. If you have pets, make sure like,
00:10:15
Speaker
The items that you're burning for smoke cleansing are safe for your animals. I have a house full of cats and dogs. Make sure what you're burning is okay for them

Alternative Cleansing Techniques

00:10:26
Speaker
as well. And yourself, like some items like burning them is not good for you to breathe in as well. So be cognizant of those things as you're working through this.
00:10:35
Speaker
So using the Element Earth, you can actually bury items in the dirt and that's considered cleansing, which I feel like I never thought of this and reading it, I feel like it's the opposite, right? You're putting it into dirt, so wouldn't that make it dirty? But the Earth is actually a way that has been used to cleanse items for like centuries, right? So just bury an item, whether it's a crystal or I don't know, whatever it is that you're trying to cleanse, obviously you can't like
00:11:04
Speaker
cleanse your space with the earth. You can't bury your whole house in the dirt. But if it's a small item that can be buried in the dirt, leave it overnight. I've read leaving it on a new moon is good if you can do this particular type of cleansing on a new moon helps amplify it. This is really good for crystals.
00:11:22
Speaker
And then fire and air were put together in a lot of the research that I did, because obviously if you use fire, a lot of times that's a final, right? And you burn it, it's done. But using fire and air like smoke cleansing with bundles of herbs or incense, this is good to be able to move around an object or cleanse like inside jars, since you can direct the smoke where you want it to be.
00:11:47
Speaker
Yeah, this is my preferred method of cleansing because it's so easy. It smells amazing. And it's super versatile. And the fact that you can see the smoke and like it helps with your visualization as well, because it's not just.
00:12:02
Speaker
Like you see the smoke permeating things and it, I mean, it just helps me with my visualization. But yeah, I like to, I actually do a whole, every time I take a bath, which is multiple times a week, I'm bathtub obsessed, right? I have a mugwort.
00:12:17
Speaker
bundle in my bathroom and so like I will physically clean my bathtub and my space and then I'll light the mugwort and I'll cleanse all four corners of the bathroom and like run it through the bathtub so the smoke cleanses my tub before I even fill it with water. My husband Anthony
00:12:37
Speaker
The first time I did this, like when he was home, I've done it tons of times, but I think he's just always been gone when I use like the mugwort in the bathroom versus just incense. He came in and he was like, smells like cheap weed in the house. What are you doing? I was like, I'm not that cool. It's mugwort. He was like, I thought you were having a good time in the bathroom.
00:13:05
Speaker
I am though, like not the kind that you think I know. Yeah. Yeah. So he came in like thinking he was going to catch me having a good time. And then really I was just having a good witchy cleansing time with my mugwort. I love that. Yeah. Yeah.
00:13:25
Speaker
And then using the element of air, so sound cleansing with bells, singing bowls, you can use the music, just open your windows and doors for fresh air while you clean and just let the vibrations of the sounds cleanse your space. And this is something I know that I talk about later in my notes, but if you don't have bells or bowls, you can clap, you can use your own voice like yelling or whatever you want to do, whatever works for you in this type of cleansing.
00:13:55
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah. And I, um, I do think that it's also important as well because some people, whenever I was researching this, like some people would say, Oh, you don't have to open up your windows to cleanse or you should definitely open up your windows to cleanse. I think for, I mean, just in general, I would recommend definitely any cleansing rituals that you do open up your windows. And I mean, not only is the air, like you were saying acts as, um,
00:14:24
Speaker
as a way to cleanse your space, but it can help push out that negative energy or in stagnant air out of your space. And what we do know from energy and what everybody learns in school, energy cannot be created or destroyed, but it's transformed. And if you are just cleaning your space and not opening up your windows, I mean, maybe it's just something that's in my head, but I feel like where is all that stagnant
00:14:53
Speaker
energy or negative energy going to go. Yeah. And I feel like staying there. Like we had talked about, you know, like when I spring clean, I opened my windows. We also do that here when we just feel like you walk in and you can just feel like it's like stagnant in the house. We'll open, even if it's just one window in that particular space that we're in, open a window and let some fresh air in and let that stagnant air out. That's like a transfer of energy is there. So yeah. Yeah. I think it's a good point.
00:15:22
Speaker
Some other things you can do you can use a moonlight and sunlight for cleansing so setting something in the moon or in a sun facing window to help charge it cleanse it just be mindful like we said earlier, some crystals are light sensitive.
00:15:37
Speaker
or heat sensitive so you don't want to put those particular crystals in a window seal in the sun if they're going to be light or heat sensitive because it could mess them up or destroy them and then mundane things so mundane is equally, if not more important when it comes to cleansing it's good to do mundane cleansing first.
00:15:59
Speaker
And then follow it with magical cleansing because these affect each other and putting them together can make them stronger so some mundane things to do before like doing magical cleansing is cleansing your floors. infusing soapy water with a cleansing herb or with lemons can help amplify it.
00:16:18
Speaker
Cleaning your space and organizing just in general, because if things are cluttered or unorganized, they affect you physically as well, and not doing so can hinder other cleansing rituals. And then things like showering and bathing, which we've talked about in multiple episodes now and even already on this episode, but just getting into a shower or a bath, doing a full body wash, cleansing yourself physically,
00:16:43
Speaker
will help put you in the right mind space and, you know, just cleansing your person cleaning your altar if you have an altar clean it on a schedule. So maybe set a certain day of the month like the first Sunday of the month or every month on the first kind of thing.
00:16:59
Speaker
and just take everything off your altar, throw away any old incense or any old offerings, and then wiping everything down on your altar and your altar space physically before putting items back on and organizing them as you go.
00:17:15
Speaker
If you're in a space where you cannot burn maybe candles or incense or any type of herb bundle there are smokeless cleansing options. So some of these techniques can be done once a month and they maintain their energies while others need to be done more often to help keep their energies.

Challenges in Cleansing Practices

00:17:35
Speaker
You can double up on some of these as well and that will just you know make them stronger amplify their cleansing magic.
00:17:43
Speaker
These methods are good for dislodging energies and some are done passively, while others are more active so some of them it's you can set something out and it'll help absorb any negative energy and then other ones, you have to like physically go through the process of doing them.
00:17:58
Speaker
So salt is a great passive cleanser. Salt absorbs negative energies from a space. You can just put a small dish of salt out or near an area that's like high trafficked in your house, like doors, window seals on a bookshelf that might be like near a high trafficked area and just allow it to kind of do its thing.
00:18:16
Speaker
You can add herbs to help amplify it. Just remember not to use salt on the earth or in your yard because it can help or it cannot help, but it can harm the environment and just be mindful of salt around your pets.
00:18:31
Speaker
With salt, you do have to change it out weekly. And a good way to do this is to dissolve your old salt that has absorbed all the energies in the space in water and then dumping it down the drain away from you. So you're acting like you're pushing it away by pushing it away from you down the drain. And then for active cleansing with salt, and again, just be mindful of pets and your environment.
00:18:53
Speaker
You can sprinkle salt on your carpet or on like hardwood floors and vacuum or sweep it up. Yeah, I think this is one of the easiest things that you could do because you can get salt anywhere it's even if you're in a space like where you can't find incense or crystals or anything.
00:19:09
Speaker
You're always going to be able to find salt and you can use it in so many different ways. And even just having, like you were saying, a little bowl, like we have a little window downstairs by our front door. And I just have a little, little bitty bowl of salt that I'll put out there. And it's the, one of the easiest things that you can do.
00:19:28
Speaker
Yeah. It's like, you remember those old commercials? I think they're from, they're either the eighties or nineties. And it was like talking about like Croft Paws. So you like said it and forget it. Yes. Like that's essentially what you can do with salt. Like you just put a little bowl. Personally, I have a reminder in my calendar that just, it reminds me on the first Friday of ever month.
00:19:48
Speaker
I don't know why I picked that day. I just picked it like randomly. I was like first Friday of the month. And I go around and salt the thresholds of my doors because I have like, you know, like a back door, a sliding door. You have like giant tracks. So I'll like.
00:20:01
Speaker
vacuum out the old salt and dirt and whatever else has collected there for the month and put new salt in the tracks of the door and then I do that on my front door too in our threshold, we have like a little crevice so I'll vacuum the old salt that's absorbed all the energies that have come through the house and then put new salt into that crevice.
00:20:20
Speaker
So like it's a way to salt my doorways of the house without like putting it in a space that it could seep into our yard and harm the environment itself. Exactly. Yeah. It's just, it really is like the easiest form of cleansing that doesn't take a whole lot of work.
00:20:36
Speaker
So if you're somebody who's kind of a hot mess and minimalist and you can't plan ahead kind of thing, just set a reminder on your calendar because that's me. I forget things if I don't put a reminder and I have to have something that's super easy. Otherwise I'm going to be like, Oh my God, I didn't do all these things. Salt is for like people like me. It's the easiest form of cleansing.
00:21:00
Speaker
So another like popular one in our house, and it's because we both grew up with grandparents that used incense and resins and essential oils as well, which are the next couple of topics that I want to talk about. Incense and resin is another passive way. So you can use them like you use salt, but these instead of absorbing your negative energies,
00:21:21
Speaker
incense or resin or essential oils, they're going to push the negative energy away. You can set loose incense in a small bowl or put it in satchel bags or pouches if you can't burn it. So again, these are your smokeless cleansing options. So even though typically people will burn incense or resin,
00:21:39
Speaker
You can use them passively the same way as you use salt. Just put, you know, a little bit of loose leaf incense in a bowl and a window seal or, you know, maybe sprinkle it across your threshold, however you want to do that, or hang it in a pouch or a satchel or a bag, wherever you feel like you need it.
00:21:55
Speaker
Um, that's awesome. I also found this and I never thought of it. Like I've always just, we are okay to burn incense or really anything. Like we don't have to have a smokeless. So I never really thought of this, but, um, for people that can't have smoke or burning items, you can use it actively by putting a loose leaf incense in a wax warmer. So the heat's going to help like
00:22:18
Speaker
warm it and release the fragrances without the fire and smoke. So I thought that was really cool. Yeah. I have never even thought about that either. I didn't know that you could use it passively like that or you just actively within a wax warmer. Yeah. Because I've always just been like, and I'm going to burn this. Yeah. Let me get some fire and smoke. Yeah. Yeah. But I didn't think about this.
00:22:40
Speaker
I was in the military and I was married in the military, so I never had to live in the dorms where you couldn't burn things. When I went to college, you know, I was an adult, so I lived in my own space. But, you know, if you live in a space like a dorm room, whether it's the military or college, a lot of times they have like no burn.
00:22:58
Speaker
rules like you can't have candles you can't have you can have a microwave but you can't have like a little stove or so they can use fire and smoke and stuff so I never had to think about these things but doing research on them taught me something new. I never knew you could use a wax warmer with blue sleeve incense. That's amazing and that's something that I
00:23:19
Speaker
would love it. When we first moved here at the house that we were living in, we weren't supposed to burn candles in our house. I definitely broke that rule. I love candles so much. I'm in a responsible candle. Some assuming they had maybe a bad experience in the past. I mean, those rules are usually in place for a reason, but at the same time,
00:23:44
Speaker
if you know you're a responsible adult and do it anyways just make sure just make sure you're right just make sure your candles if you're not it
00:23:52
Speaker
Exactly. Don't put them near something that can catch fire. If I had known about all these like passive ways to use stuff that would have been a really great option. Yeah and then the essential and botanical oils. You can also use a wax warmer to diffuse oil into your space. Make sure the oil you're using is safe for you. Make sure it's safe for your pets if you have pets.
00:24:17
Speaker
just, you know, not every oil is safe to burn or heat or, you know, for you to breathe in the whatever few was it fumes. Yeah, yeah, whatever they are. Whatever they are. Yeah, I don't know. Yeah. And then so you can even get like a car oil diffuser.

Tools for Protection and Cleansing

00:24:40
Speaker
That's like a popular thing. Now you can find them, you know, sensei has them
00:24:45
Speaker
You can get them in a regular store. So you can just have oil diffusing into your car, or you can get one for your house as well. And this helps to naturally and gently diffuse oil into your space. Like again, we grew up in households where like, I know Anthony's grandma, I had lived with his grandparents when he was in basic and she would put oils on her light bulbs. When they were off, she would like just drop a few drops of oil on the light bulbs and then turn the lights on for the day.
00:25:13
Speaker
and it would like heat the oil. I don't know if that's safe, but that's something she did, you know, and I was like, oh, I never knew that you could do that, you know? Yeah, I've never heard of that before. Wow. Well, and she was like, well, light bulbs get hot and it heats the oil and it gives it into your space. And I was like, I never knew that.
00:25:30
Speaker
Both of our grandparents also used EnSense pretty regularly, but again, they used it by lighting it and then allowing the smoke. So just wanted to give some smokeless options for people that maybe are in a dorm room or maybe they have a rental contract that doesn't allow them to use open flames or smoke. Those are great options.
00:25:50
Speaker
crystals are another good passive cleanser. We have several different crystals that we can go through here really quick, but basically you can just take these crystals, put them in liminal spaces to absorb the energy.
00:26:05
Speaker
You can put them over mirrors, door frames, or window seals. I do in both mine and Anthony's office, we have obsidian and selenite in our windows to help like cleanse the space and help with creativity. But you can also just wear them as jewelry, carry just a regular, I have several of them right here actually.
00:26:26
Speaker
Keep them in your space. With your crystals, you can make sure that you cleanse them at least once a month. And this can be done again with salt, with moonlight, with sunlight, with incense, etc. But just be aware of which crystals are sun, water, or heat sensitive to avoid ruining them.
00:26:47
Speaker
So some examples that we have are black, tourmaline, smoky quartz, obsidian, amber amethyst, and selenite. And I'm going to let Sam kind of take it away with the crystals because she's a little more versed in this one. But definitely by no means an expert. There's just, there's so much out there. There really is. I mean, and I feel like you could study crystals your whole life and then still
00:27:15
Speaker
still not know everything. But so for black tourmaline, that's one that I have above our doorways for our front door and our back door. And it clears negative thoughts, it protects against the negative effects of cell phones and electromagnetic smog and any sort of ill wishing, if anyone is wishing harm on you or wishing bad karma on you or whatever, it can help with that.
00:27:43
Speaker
and protect you from it. It also soaks up negative energy. And as I said, it's a protection stone and a grounding stone and you can carry it with you. I know that there are some, some people who will like they'll put it in a necklace or they'll have it in a ring or something, or you can put it in your entryways, which is what I do.
00:28:02
Speaker
And then smoky quartz is another great one. It's a grounding crystal and it neutralizes negative vibrations. It can also help with healing as well. And one thing I didn't know about this, so I guess there's like a natural radiation to it or it's radiated in some ways. Um, and so it can help treat radiation related illnesses or reduce side effects of like chemotherapy. And it helps your pain.
00:28:28
Speaker
Yeah, which is, yeah, I did not know about that and I was researching and I was like, dang, I didn't realize that. I've never heard that. That's so interesting. Yeah. And then for obsidian, it removes negative spiritual influences. It helps soak up.
00:28:44
Speaker
environmental pollution. This stone is very powerful though and it can be overwhelming for some people because they say that nothing can be hidden from obsidian and it's a truth enhancer and it exposes flaws. So depending on
00:29:01
Speaker
what you're using this stone for, you could be, you could buy it off a little bit more than what you were wanting. I've never heard that. And I've literally just told you, like we keep obsidian in our office windows to help like kind of absorb that negativity. And we read that it like helps promote creativity and well, yeah, yeah, that's funny. I did not know that. I didn't know that part either. I just knew about like negative energy and stuff, but yeah, it's crazy.
00:29:30
Speaker
Um, and then Amber while it's not a crystal, it's a tree resin. We still kind of call it a crystal, but it's a powerful grounding stone and it has powerful ties to the earth. And because of that, it's really good cleanser for both your body and your environment.
00:29:47
Speaker
Amethyst is a powerful protective stone. It blocks geopathic stress and negative environmental energies, and it's considered a healing stone and can help to prevent overindulgence, whether that be like any sort of bad habits or alcohol.
00:30:05
Speaker
substance, any sort of substance use, which is really interesting. And I did not know that part. I've never heard that either. That's interesting. Yeah. And then for selenite that can be used to create a protective grid around your house. And it creates a safe and quiet space separate from outside influences. So you can put this in all of the corners of your home.
00:30:25
Speaker
to create that grid. When worn, it can prevent external influences to the mind. So you're less likely to be coerced into anything that you don't want to do or that you normally wouldn't agree to if you're wearing selenite, which
00:30:39
Speaker
is pretty interesting. That is interesting. I've never heard of that portion. I just knew selenite was like a cleansing crystal. So another good smokeless cleansing option is sound cleansing. For passive sound cleansing, there's vibrational frequencies that you can play in your space that help dislodge energies. And you can go on YouTube and search these. There's
00:31:03
Speaker
copious amounts of videos for vibrational frequencies for cleansing. So literally just search that and you'll get like bajillions of videos. When using these to cleanse your space, make sure you're cleansing your space top to bottom and back in front. And this is really just a good pattern to use in any form of cleansing.
00:31:21
Speaker
So cleanse your space from the back to the front and from the top to the bottom, especially if you have a two-story house. Go upstairs first, cleanse it from the back to the front, and then move down. If you want to do this actively, you can use bells, which we talked about before. Again, ringing bells from the top to the bottom of the space and then back to the front. Make sure you're ringing in all corners to help cleanse and push the energy out.
00:31:46
Speaker
And this can also be done by clapping loudly using singing bowls or just using your own voice and certain pitches so you can do washing so using sacred waters like holy spring or moonwater and cleaning products and then adding herbs.
00:32:02
Speaker
to help cleanse both physically and spiritually. And then when finished, you want to dump the liquid down an outside drain if that's a possible option. If it's not, obviously, you can just use your sink. But it's better to, if you can, it's better to do it through an outside drain to help keep those energies outside of your space. Use cleansing sprays. This is really good for somebody that's not
00:32:26
Speaker
practicing openly. Cleansing sprays can just be seen as like a room freshener. What do they call them? Like a potpourri type spray basically. A lot of these sprays are also room and body so you can use them on your person. You can make them yourself. Just make sure you do your research and test them on your skin if you're going to use them on your body. You don't want to use an herb or whether it's like a lemon or something if your skin's going to react to that.
00:32:53
Speaker
Or you can just purchase these a lot of metaphysical stores or even grocery stores or regular like big box stores are carrying stuff like this now. These are great alternatives for those who don't want to practice openly. They want to, you know, be able to use it, but not let people know like what they're using it for.
00:33:09
Speaker
because it seems just like a regular like room freshening spray. You can do sweeping. So this is one of the older cleansing practices. You can use a bezum, a brush, or a broom for sweeping. And this can be used to physically clean your property while pushing energies away. If you're doing this ceremonially though, the broom or bezum doesn't actually physically touch the floor, but it hovers about two inches above and just pushes energy out
00:33:37
Speaker
Make sure that you have your doors and windows open before you start this and then just sweep your energy right outside of your house.
00:33:44
Speaker
Using water, again, this is one of the oldest and most basic forms of cleansing. You can take blessed waters like holy spring moon water and just sprinkle them throughout your home. This is a good like gentle way to cleanse, but you can also add things like salt to it. Again, just being mindful that salt may cause harm to certain items or areas or pets.
00:34:09
Speaker
You can also just leave salted water in a small dish on a shelf or a window seal. Salt water has to be changed every 12 hours though and again just tipping the old water down the drain away from you and then replenishing your bowl with new salt water. I read that it was like recommended if you're just starting to cleanse your space to do this like
00:34:31
Speaker
more frequently, so like change the water more frequently than 12 hours, maybe you change it every six hours for like the first three days, and then that like aggressively absorbs all the energy out of your space and then moving to that 12 hour point. Another way is with light and air, so this is the most basic technique, just opening all your doors and windows and dislodging that stagnant energy,
00:34:55
Speaker
This is something you can do frequently, like I know when we talked about this in our previous episode, but when I lived in Germany, this is a practice that most Germans do every morning. They open all of their windows and just clear out the stagnant air and let fresh air in. So you can do this daily, you can do this weekly, just however frequently you feel like you need to.
00:35:17
Speaker
It's a common practice at the start of spring. So we talked about spring cleaning or if you do spring and fall cleaning, and then make sure that you're also opening all of your curtains and blinds so that you're letting the light get into your space as well. This technique is great to pair with other cleansing techniques and just helps amplify them. Anything else on cleansing for you? Not really. Well, I think too, just even with like opening your curtains and blinds, like especially, you know, we, you had mentioned about
00:35:45
Speaker
doing mundane practices, mundane cleaning in conjunction with some of these virtualistic type practices. And it's so amazing, like any time that I am cleaning a space, I will immediately like open up the windows, open up the blinds, and it just
00:36:03
Speaker
helps so much. Yeah, I feel like it puts me in a better mood to like opening and letting all the light in and just the fresh air. It just makes you feel better too. So it really does. Yeah. So that wraps up cleansing and takes us into charging.

What is Charging and How is it Done?

00:36:21
Speaker
So what is charging? Charging is when you direct energy into an object for a purpose. I think it's also important to note that whenever we're cleansing, we're taking that energy and moving it out of a space. So with charging, after you cleanse, you should charge because you're putting a specific energy and intention back into an area.
00:36:43
Speaker
And so if you cleanse your space, you should definitely charge it afterwards because what's the point in completely cleansing and getting rid of negative energy and pushing it out. If you're not putting filling that space with anything.
00:36:58
Speaker
And this is also why we kind of wanted to do this episode as all of these take other because to do one really, you should be doing the other and vice versa. So with charging, you're energizing the object and imbuing it with a divine power or a different energy or your intentions. So you're empowering your programming and you're enhancing the object.
00:37:21
Speaker
Charging is how you introduce beneficial energy and with the intentions that help align with what you want. So you're giving your object purpose. So an example of this could be Rose Quartz is associated with love.
00:37:37
Speaker
So you could assign a rose quartz stone of yours a task of attracting friendship or enhancing romance, cultivating lust even, or building family relationships, understanding and grieving the loss of a loved one. These are all things like if you just hold it and just put your intention and your energy into it. Yeah. And quartz itself too, is also a great stone to empower other stones and tools. So you can enhance whatever power or energy you're putting into
00:38:07
Speaker
a crystal or whatever intention you're trying to manifest by
00:38:12
Speaker
using it in your charging or cleansing rituals.

Objects Suitable for Charging

00:38:16
Speaker
Yeah. So some commonly charged objects could be stones, herbs, tools, beauty products, dishes, soil, kitchen tools for cooking, bottles and jars, sachets, pens, emulins, charms, talismans, candles, water, seeds, oil, your cauldron, like literally anything.
00:38:37
Speaker
anything that you're using for your craft or just something that you're, you know, you want to kind of cultivate a good energy into, you can charge them. Yeah. And this reminds me, I saw on TikTok a few weeks ago, I'll have to find the video again, because I thought it was so cool. And it looked really neat too. This woman, she's an artist. And so what she did was she had like a jar, she cleansed the jar with incense, I believe. And then she filled it up with
00:39:07
Speaker
like salt and different herbs and whatnot. And that way she can, when she's done using her pens and pencils or whatever she's using, she puts them in there to like charge the items. So I'm like, oh my gosh, that's really cool. And could she do like an attention? Did you send that to me? Either you sent it or I just watched it, but I do know what you're talking about. I saw the video too. Yeah.
00:39:32
Speaker
Yeah, it's pretty interesting. Yeah. But, um, another cool thing too, and I'm not even sure if we mentioned this last week or whenever we talked about, not last week, the week before when we were talking about Monday magic. Oh yeah. Um, but you can charge your makeup for like, if you want to do glamor magic, you can do new makeup, makeup brushes and the windows still, um, to charge them before you use them. Um, and so just literally like you were saying, you can charge anything.
00:40:02
Speaker
And then I will, we didn't say that, but we did talk about how you can use like your foundation or powder or whatever to do like sigils for glamor magic, but Oh yes. But yeah, you can definitely charge your makeup before you do your glamor magic. And this is another way to incorporate glamor magic into your everyday practices. And then obviously to like with anything, make sure you're setting an intention. So if you're putting.
00:40:28
Speaker
your makeup or your makeup brushes in your windowsill on a full moon or whatnot. Have that intention of whatever that intention is for you. Set it out there.
00:40:38
Speaker
Don't just put it in the window sill and think like, okay, well, my job's done. I'm done. Yeah. Definitely set an intention for sure. Also to further go into water. I think that creating moonwater is such an amazing thing. And I know people talk about it a lot, but every time I've mentioned like moonwater or here recently, when I've talked to people about moonwater, they have heard about moonwater, but they didn't really know.
00:41:06
Speaker
What to use it for, why we should be using it or anything. So creating moonwater is basically just putting water in a container and like a Mason jar I've heard.
00:41:17
Speaker
people using like old gin bottles and stuff. Because they're pretty. They're pretty. They are so pretty. Yeah. I'm a gin drinker and I can tell you 95% of the time I buy the gin because of the bottle. Yes. Gin has the most pretty bottles. They really do. But you can obviously clean out your gin bottles, fill them up with water and just put them outside.
00:41:39
Speaker
on a full moon, you can even do it on a new moon or really, I mean, there's so many different times you could do it literally anytime. It just depends on what intention, what you're trying to manifest, but use, using that water, you can water your plants, uh, use the water and spellwork. So you can use it to charge your house or cleanse your house or cleanse the items in your house. You can drink it. And then also, obviously, like if you're putting the water out there, like I mentioned with
00:42:12
Speaker
It's better if you set an intention, I mean, just stand outside with it and set an intention and you can even write it down and just read it. I mean, it doesn't matter. Or as you're like filling the bottle, like put that, put that intention into it as you're filling it up, as you're, you know, corking your bottle and taking it outside. Exactly. Yeah. For whenever you are creating moonwater, if you follow the moon cycles and the pagan wheel of the year, this can be
00:42:36
Speaker
the makeup and the makeup brushes.

Timing and Techniques for Charging

00:42:41
Speaker
An awesome way to amplify your intentions because you can align with like the pagan will a year or the moon cycles with what you're wanting to accomplish. So for instance, the new moon that we just recently had it, I know this episode is not going to be released until.
00:42:58
Speaker
Like when is something being released in like May or something? But we're recording this in March. And so we just, oh no, it's being released in April. That's right. I looked that up. So anyway, like, so for example, whenever this episode is released soon after we'll have the full moon on April 16th.
00:43:19
Speaker
And it is the pink moon and Libra. And so for this full moon, it's related back to rebirth and release. It ties in with Ostarra. It's right around the spring equinox. And so for this full moon, if you're wanting to release things that are no longer serving you.
00:43:39
Speaker
This is a perfect time to do that. Yeah. I like that you brought up like watering your plants or, you know, like using it in whatever, because this is something that, you know, like I didn't even know that things that I was doing growing up or things that I still did that as an adult were pagan because my, you know, my mom was trying to raise us Pentecostal.
00:43:59
Speaker
I spent a lot of time with my grandparents and my grandparents you know I told you about how we would fill up jugs and put them out under the moon to charge under the moonlight to water the plants so they would grow and we would get more tomatoes on the tomato plants and
00:44:13
Speaker
So I like that you brought that up because that is something that like I did without realizing that, oh, this is actually a pagan practice or a witchy practice that I did with my grandparents growing up, but my grandparents weren't open about those things because my mom was Christian and was trying to raise us in a Pentecostal church. So I did them without knowing. Yeah. That's amazing. Yeah.
00:44:38
Speaker
Okay, so here are some steps to charging an object. So, you know, we've talked about cleansing it, you get your item, you cleanse it, and then you are ready to charge it. So you want to choose your object, obviously, this could be a piece of jewelry that you wear, tools that you use in your craft.
00:44:58
Speaker
Maybe it's a special mug that you use every morning to drink your tea or your coffee or even just a glass of water, some writing tools that you journal with, literally any object that's going to age you and your desired outcome. Once you've chosen it, you need to choose a method. So are you going to charge it in the moonlight or the sunlight with crystals, making sure that your crystals have been cleansed first? Are you going to visualize? You have a bajillion options and we've discussed a lot of them and we're still going to be discussing more.
00:45:27
Speaker
So going through like picking your object, picking your method. Yeah. A great example of charging an object and a super easy way to do it with using your own energy is for tarot cards. You can charge your deck by putting it under your pillow as you sleep.
00:45:43
Speaker
and it imbues your energy into the deck. And then also I know we've mentioned singing bowls for cleansing. You can also use singing bowls to charge your home. For singing bowls, the goal is to achieve a perfect balance of the yin and yang energies. And so it can be used in cleansing, but it is great for balancing out and harmonizing energies. And it's a great option to use before any sort of ritual work.
00:46:07
Speaker
I don't use a singing bowl. I don't know much about them, but I do see them used in a lot of like videos or a lot of the research we do, a lot of people use singing bowls. And then of course, like scrolling through TikTok, you'll always come across that live feed at night where they're just doing the singing bowls and it's so soothing. It really is. It really is. You want one. Right. But I'm like, I don't know what I want it for.
00:46:32
Speaker
To charge your home. Yeah. Yeah. So, okay. You've chosen your object. You've chosen your method. So now you need to perform the charging. So with this, you're using your own energy and focusing your intentions, visualizing the outcome that you seek to achieve. Having a tactile connection also helps. So like holding the object in your hands or even just touching it to help transfer your energy.
00:46:56
Speaker
And then, as we've said before, speaking your intention out loud also gives it power so actually physically saying out loud where you know you can hear it everyone else can hear it is going to help strengthen it. Yeah, and you know, as we mentioned, using your own energy.
00:47:14
Speaker
I know that sounds kind of like a very just vague way of saying it, but it's really so simple and everybody can do this. And if you feel like maybe you don't have, or you don't know how to harness that energy, you don't know how to use yourself to charge something.
00:47:33
Speaker
You can practice on your own and there's so many different ways you can do this, but it's so easy to just think about it as energy manipulation and you're manipulating the energy and the power that you have in yourself. And so you could do this by just sitting down, rubbing your hands together, visualizing a ball between your hands and kind of manipulating that space in between your hands. You can sit with your hands together and concentrate
00:48:02
Speaker
Sit down, put your hands together and concentrate on the area between your hands. So focus on visualizing the energy between your hands and you can visualize that there's like a like color in between your hands or a ball of light or really anything. And then once you have harnessed this energy, you can use it then to charge your crystals, talismans, anything that you have.

Understanding Banishing in Witchcraft

00:48:29
Speaker
Yeah. And I know it sounds silly, but
00:48:32
Speaker
Honestly, just stop and like, even if you have to pause it, just stop and sit and rub your hands together and you'll feel like an energy build in between them. It's actually kind of cool. It really is. So we have cleansed, we have charged. Now we're on to banishing.
00:48:49
Speaker
Yes. Now we are on to vanishing. So vanishing, I feel like depending on where you're getting your information, you could be getting very wrong information. Yeah. I know on Tik TOK, you see a lot of like, I don't know, banishing that I feel like I'm not super comfortable with, but really vanishing doesn't have to be anything scary. Right. And it's often confused with binding.
00:49:16
Speaker
So binding attaches something or somebody to you while banishing, remove something or someone from your presence. Banishing the spells should be tied in with the waning moon. So basically after a full moon, whenever the moon is getting smaller in size and it's decreasing, this is when you'll want to do a banishing spell or a banishing practice or a banishing ritual, I should say.
00:49:43
Speaker
because the hope is that as the moon diminishes, so will the unwanted presence.
00:49:48
Speaker
So banishing magic is a type of magic that casts away something present and undesired. So you're repelling or exercising magic. It's good for clearing negative energies and entities, or when something attaches itself to you and when something gets through your protective wards. Some banishing herbs are cinnamon, rosemary, bay leaves, cedar, frankincense, coffee. Is it anise or anise?
00:50:18
Speaker
Anise. Anise, okay. So I, I always thought it was Anise. And then I watched a video the other day and she called it Anise. And I was like, have I been saying it wrong? I've always called it Star Anise. Maybe we're both saying it wrong. Maybe. And we just don't know. Maybe. So let's get out of here. I'm going to go with Anise. If it's wrong, we're sorry. It sounds better. Yeah, it does. It sounds a lot better than Anise. Cloves are another one. And then garlic. These help repel negativity.
00:50:48
Speaker
Yeah. And then also to cayenne pepper, mint and peppercorns are also a lot of very popular herbs that you can use in banishing. And really just, as we've said so many times, it's all about your intention and your visualization because some of these herbs can be used in other practices like for protection or in other ways as well. And it's really just about what you're using them for, how you're using them. And as you can see, like, yeah.
00:51:17
Speaker
It's setting that intention. Yeah. And then also a lot of these herbs you can find just in anybody's spice cabinet. So they're very easy to find. They're very accessible. A lot of grocery store. You don't have to have like a specialty herb shop or a witchy shop or whatever. They're easy to get your hands on.
00:51:35
Speaker
A lot of these can be used as incense just that loose leaf so your dried herbs just putting them in a satchel that can be hung somewhere or carried with you, you can add them to your bath or again just burn them as an incense.

Herbs and Stones for Banishing

00:51:51
Speaker
A good clue is to think of herbs that are strong smelling or strong tasting herbs. These are oftentimes herbs that are good for banishing. So again, like the cayenne or mint or peppercorn, cinnamon, cloves, those all have very like strong smells to them or strong tastes. Yeah. And then another cool thing that you can do with some of these herbs is you can make a banishing oil. And there are so many different recipes online for banishing oils.
00:52:20
Speaker
One that I found that I really liked is from the local hedge witch on TikTok. And what she does is she uses oil, lemon peel to remove negative energy, chili pepper, garlic to dispel negative energy, cinnamon to protect from negative energy, cayenne pepper to banish unwanted energy, rosemary to remove negative energy. And what she does is she mixes them all together in a jar. She shakes it up really good.
00:52:49
Speaker
She leaves it for a week with the lid, you know, just screwed on. She'll go back daily and shake it. And then with that, with this oil, you can use it in many different things. But one of the most common things to do with this oil is you can take a candle. Like if you're, if you practice candle magic and you can carve like a sigil or.
00:53:13
Speaker
a phrase or whatever into the candle. And the best candles for this are black or purple candles. And then once you've got your carved sigil on the candle, anoint the candle with oil, with your banishing oil. And you can even add some of those herbs on top of it too, like adding more cayenne pepper or cinnamon or whatever it
00:53:37
Speaker
herbs that you wanted to use or that you've used in your vanishing spell. And this can be a great way to incorporate that oil, but obviously don't use that oil in cooking because
00:53:47
Speaker
It's your banishing oil, not your cooking oil. Some banishing stones that you can use, black jasper, black tourmaline, quartz charged with intent, smoky quartz and jet. These are all great for just general protection as well. And we've already kind of talked about them at length, so I wasn't going to go into any in depth, but those are just some examples of a few that you could use for banishing.
00:54:13
Speaker
Yeah. And so I just wanted to mention this because I thought it was crazy, but I have this book and obviously all of our sources, as we've mentioned time and again, all of our sources are in our show notes, but in this book that I have, it's called 5,000 spells. It's an amazing book. It's actually, I mean, it's called the element encyclopedia of 5,000 spells is what it's called, but I just call it 5,000 spells. And it's easy.
00:54:39
Speaker
So whenever I was doing more researching on banishing, because I'm not super first in banishing.

Innovative Banishing Methods

00:54:46
Speaker
I have used banishing in my practice before, but not as often as I feel like I should. But one of the things she has in there is menstrual blood banishing. And I was like, what the heck? And so essentially what you could do if you
00:55:03
Speaker
or feel so inclined is you could take your own menstrual blood, rub it on your doorknobs, and this allegedly repels anyone who touches your doorknobs while harboring evil intentions towards you. But I'm just gonna say, if I went up to somebody's door and the doorknobs had blood on them, I wouldn't be knocking on that door. I think that would just repel me in general, whether I like to person or not.
00:55:38
Speaker
That's wild. I will not be practiced, but it's interesting. And if you do practice it, maybe you let us know like how you do that. That's interesting. Like, do you wipe it off when you're done or just leave it there? Like, do you do like a little? Or is it like a little
00:56:00
Speaker
Yeah, or is it just a smear. And then how are you collecting it like a menstrual cup like I have so many questions are so many questions that is wild I have never heard of that. Yeah, and also to like I'm not going to yuck anybody's magic right yum right when it comes to spell work but
00:56:19
Speaker
I did not know that was a thing. So me either. I need to know more about this. Yeah. I'm interested. I'm intrigued. Yeah. Banishing can also be used though on bad habits and any sort of undesirable or dangerous addictive habits can fall under this category as well. And so something that I also found in the 5000 Spells book
00:56:46
Speaker
is there's something called a bad habits bath. And I thought this was really interesting. And I thought, because I know you love baths, Tiffany, that this is really interesting. So essentially you'll fill a tub with warm water and add the essential oils of clary sage, frankincense, lavender, lemongrass, or mei chiang, I guess is what it's also known as.
00:57:10
Speaker
I didn't either and rosemary and so while bathing, you inhale the fragrance while saying positive affirmations.
00:57:18
Speaker
and visualizing yourself without that bad habit. And it's supposed to be a great way to banish it. Which is really cool. Yeah, that is really cool. I didn't know that lemongrass was also called May Ching. I didn't know that. Lemongrass a lot. I do use lemongrass a lot. I love lemongrass so much. I put it in a lot of my teas. I'm like a little dash of lemongrass. It's so good.
00:57:44
Speaker
have it for everything. Yes. So that's it. Yeah, that is it. Cleansing and charging and banishing. Yes. And if you use cleansing, charging and banishing in ways that we didn't talk about on the show, we'd love to hear what you guys use in your everyday practice.
00:58:03
Speaker
Yeah, I feel like, like we said at the beginning, these could each be their own episode, but we did feel that it was important to put them together because you need to cleanse to charge and then banishing also ties in with these.

Conclusion and Next Episode Preview

00:58:16
