In this powerful first episode, Lisa opens her heart and shares the deeply personal story behind Emotional Health for Christian Women. She takes listeners into the hardest season of her marriage—a time marked by confusion, emotional distance, unanswered prayers, and the eventual revelation of decades-long betrayal and addiction. With honesty and vulnerability, she describes the moment her world collapsed, the shock and trauma that followed, and how God met her in the ashes with supernatural comfort, guidance, and healing.

Lisa introduces the ICU-to-marathon analogy she uses to explain the journey of recovering from betrayal trauma—moving from barely surviving to learning to walk again, and eventually becoming stronger and more emotionally whole than before. She explains why she created this podcast: to give Christian women a compassionate, faith-filled place to heal, grow, and pursue emotional freedom.

Listeners will learn what to expect in the coming episodes: biblical truth, practical emotional health tools, wisdom on boundaries and relationships, and encouragement to step boldly into their God-given purpose. Above all, Lisa reminds women that God relentlessly pursues them with goodness, heals their deepest wounds, and transforms ashes into beauty. This episode sets the tone for a podcast rooted in hope, honesty, and the unwavering faithfulness of God.

Welcome! Thank you for being here on this, my first episode. I'll be sharing a little about my story and how that led me to starting this podcast. So let's jump in Where I'm starting with my story is the season of marriage and raising a

family. My marriage was hard. I knew my husband was struggling emotionally, but I didn't know why. And I didn't know how to help. I would gently suggest counseling, but each time my words were met with silence or resistance. Still, i prayed, prayed and prayed.
00:01:27
Speaker
Year after year, I prayed earnestly that God would step in and bring healing. Healing to my marriage, yes, healing to our home, our family. I wanted that dream that I had carried to have this godly home and um you know a godly marriage and raising amazing kids who loved the Lord.

Impact of Infidelity and Worship as a Lifeline

00:01:52
Speaker
So then came September 30th, 2018. That's the day my world shattered. I was driving home after visiting my college aged daughter college-aged daughter, and on the road, I had this worship song called Tremble Playing.
00:02:11
Speaker
Do you know this song? Something about it gripped me. I put it on repeat for the entire two and a half hour drive home. I'm not exaggerating. It was this incredible worship experience. it I just felt the presence of the Lord very much in that car with me. And here's some of the lyrics, if you're not familiar.
00:02:31
Speaker
Jesus, Jesus, you make the darkness tremble. Jesus, Jesus, you silence fear. Your name is a light that the shadows can't deny. Your name cannot be overcome. I sang those words over and over, not knowing that just a couple of hours later, that song would become my lifeline, my anthem in the most traumatizing season of my life.

Emotional Devastation and Beginning of Healing

00:02:59
Speaker
When I walked through the door that evening, my husband of 23 years told me he'd had an affair. In the weeks and months that followed, more truth came out, a decades-long on-again, off-again addiction to pornography, and seasons of acting out that had gone undetected.
00:03:20
Speaker
To say our family was devastated is an understatement in all caps. It felt brutal. Truly, like the ground beneath me had given way.
00:03:31
Speaker
My heart wasn't broken. It was shattered. To say our family was devastated is an understatement. It felt like the ground beneath me gave way. I couldn't eat. I couldn't sleep. Everything I thought was secure suddenly crumbled.
00:03:50
Speaker
But God. But God, I know that phrase is used quite a bit these days, but it's true. But God, um my heart was shattered. But God, my children were devastated.
00:04:04
Speaker
But God, God surrounded me with his presence in ways, friends, I had never experienced before. He placed the right people, the right resources and the the right words in my path.
00:04:21
Speaker
And slowly, painfully slowly, hope actually began to flicker. And over time, I'm here to tell you, healing took root. God didn't just heal me from the trauma. He began showing me things in me that needed changing, needed healing, things that actually had nothing to do with what my husband had done. There was plenty of healing healing. in relation to that, that the Lord did that needed doing. um But he also showed me things in me apart from this trauma that he wanted to work in

Stages of Betrayal Trauma Recovery

00:04:57
Speaker
me. And that's the thing about betrayal trauma. At first, you feel like you're in the ICU.
00:05:02
Speaker
You're barely able to breathe. You kind of need around the clock care, really. Then slowly you get moved to a regular room where you start eating, you start sleeping and functioning a little again.
00:05:16
Speaker
And eventually, it's like you get moved to outpatient recovery where you learn to walk in a new way because you'll never be the same again. um Your story is permanently impacted, but you do learn to walk in a new way. But here's the part that most people don't realize that I really want to share with

Transformation through Deep Healing

00:05:37
Speaker
you.
00:05:37
Speaker
If you heal the right way, if you let God do this deep work, you can actually become a marathon runner. even if you weren't a runner before this horrific accident. And I don't mean literally running. I mean, emotionally and spiritually a marathon runner.
00:05:57
Speaker
That's what happened to me. I am healthier, stronger, and freer today than I was before the trauma. And that's the hope I want to share with you in this podcast.
00:06:10
Speaker

Speaker

Purpose of the Podcast and Divine Pursuit

00:07:13
Speaker
The name, Our Relentless Pursuit, comes from two places. First, it's about our pursuit of healing, growth, and freedom. These things don't just happen. They require intentionality. But second, and more importantly, it's about God's relentless pursuit of us. Psalm 23 The Hebrew word for follow is surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life the hebrew word for follow means to chase after. And that's what God does. He pursues us with his goodness, even when we feel lost or broken.
00:07:50
Speaker
So every episode, I want you to be reminded of this. No matter where you are in your journey, God has not let go of you. He sees you. He loves you. And he's inviting you into a life of healing, purpose, and freedom.

Encouragement and Call to Action

00:08:07
Speaker
One verse that has carried me through all of this is Isaiah 61.3. It says, To bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. Can I get a hallelujah? This is the promise of our god He doesn't just bind up our wounds. He transforms them into testimonies.
00:08:33
Speaker
So that's my heart for our relentless pursuit. If you've been longing for a safe, encouraging space where faith meets emotional health and where you can take real steps toward living the life God created you for, you are in the right place.
