Speaker: The only thing I can think of is because they got pretty close with the game against Australia and they thought they could have gotten over the line chasing such a big target.

Speaker: Pakistan chased a big score against Sri Lanka does not mean they're going to chase that score every day.
Speaker: Similarly, any team that bats first and puts 350 plus on the board

Speaker: It's a misconception that anybody has that you're going to chase 350 plus every day.

Speaker: He's carrying one of the best South African teams to ever play the World Cup.
Speaker: He's got one of the most destructive batting lineups in this World Cup.
Speaker: So, you know, we can all criticize them, but they're a quality team and Demba Babuma is proving to be a quality leader.
Speaker: And at the end of the day, I think it also comes back to the same thing.
Speaker: If you have a quality team, your captain ends up looking good.
Speaker: Babur Azam is looking like a shit captain because he has a shit team at the moment.
Speaker: I'm not defending him.
Speaker: He's been a shit captain at certain moments of the game as well.
Speaker: But so has Temba Babuma.
Speaker: He's not even a natural leader.
Speaker: If it wasn't for certain rules in their country, Temba Babuma wouldn't even be in the team.

Speaker: I was looking at some of the numbers and highest most highest successful targets set by a team batting first 300 plus in a World Cup.

Speaker: And it is South Africa in this World Cup.
Speaker: And both the last two examples were the ones that went on to win the World Cup.
Speaker: So this could very well be South Africa's year of actually winning a World Cup tournament.
Speaker: This would be the first one.
Speaker: And to think that Temba Bhavuma is going to be the one to lift that trophy.
Speaker: There's a little bit of dichotomy in my mind that it just doesn't seem fair.
Speaker: He's not being that leader that, you know, you expect in most instances.
Speaker: But he could be the World Cup winning captain just because he's been gifted with such a brilliant team.
Speaker: Sorry, I digress.
Speaker: Temba Bhavuma got out.
Speaker: The wicket was not easy to bat on.
Speaker: And that's a very important point.
Speaker: The wicket was a bit too-paced.
Speaker: The ball wasn't really coming onto the bat.
Speaker: You couldn't hit through the line.
Speaker: So you had to bat time.
Speaker: Rasi Vendidussin is the perfect man for that job.
Speaker: But it was Quinton Decau who sort of changed his game.
Speaker: he's used to hitting boundaries fours and sixes he faced 116 balls for 114 batting at a strike rate of 98 and he adapted to the changing conditions he was like yeah yeah see wicket nahi jhaan peh mei through the line mar sakta and i will get quick runs this is where i need to change my game and bat through build and innings he had a 200 run partnership rasi wanted us and that is by the way the second 200 partnership these two have had in this world cup
Speaker: So, Rasi and Quinton DeCock bat beautifully together.

Speaker: And on a pitch, that was not easy to bat.
Speaker: So, I think... Yeah, it's such a beautiful scorecard.
Speaker: Just to add to that point and how dominant this batting lineup is.
Speaker: Let's see the strike rates.
Speaker: Temba Bubu, 85.
Speaker: Rahsi Wanderderson after him, 112.
Speaker: David Miller after him, 176.
Speaker: Henrik Klaser after him, 214.
Speaker: Aidan Markham after him, 600.
Speaker: Bro, the strike rates in this team are unbelievable.
Speaker: That middle order is insane.
Speaker: What they did beautifully was that they had the game set up in 40-45 hours.
Speaker: They said we knew that someone will come here and he couldn't beat through the line.
Speaker: Henry Klaassen, David Miller, Aidan Markram all need to be able to hit through the line to be able to get quick runs.
Speaker: Especially when spinners bowl, you can't do that.
Speaker: So Quinton and Rasi build up this massive partnership of 200-odd runs.
Speaker: And literally Quinton gets out in the 40th over.
Speaker: Last 10 overs to go and this is when your big boys come in.
Speaker: When the big boys come in, fast ballers come back on, easier to hit through the line.
Speaker: And that's what happened.
Speaker: David Miller got 53 of 30, Henrik Klarsen 15 of 7, Aidan Markram 6 of 1.
Speaker: He faced the last ball of the innings and hit that for a 6.
Speaker: And those scores, they could have capitulated for 250 had they not built that big partnership.
Speaker: Ends up being a 350 without taking any risks.
Speaker: Again, this is something that most other teams like Pakistan have to learn if they want to win big games in this tournament, which will be the last two.
Speaker: Do not go too big too early.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: Babar Azam 90 strike rate by batting is not a problem.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: Rizwan 90 strike rate by batting is not a problem.
Speaker: As long as you've got people coming after them who can make quick runs, who can give you that 50 runs of 30 balls.
Speaker: You're fine.
Speaker: So Pakistan, I think we criticize a lot of our cricketers that they don't play fast.
Speaker: You have to play to the conditions.
Speaker: Yes, these are high scoring grounds, but you can get 350 just by knocking it around.
Speaker: You don't have to hit boundaries all the time.
Speaker: So again, this was a quality batting innings because this was not an easy wicket that just hit and hit and run.
Speaker: And once they got past 350, it was never going to be a simple chase.
Speaker: Again, just on the bowling side, not a lot of wickets fell.
Speaker: It was only four wickets that fell for South Africa.
Speaker: So not a lot to write home about.
Speaker: Tim Saudi played in place of...
Speaker: Lockie Ferguson, who's got an Achilles heel problem.
Speaker: Matt Henry is also injured now.
Speaker: That's important to mention because New Zealand play Pakistan next, which is virtually a quarterfinal for both those teams.
Speaker: Matt Henry is out injured.
Speaker: Lockie Ferguson is out injured.
Speaker: So we have to remember that Jimmy Nisham picked up an injury at the end of the game.
Speaker: So we have to remember that there is a few interesting things happening in the background.
Speaker: Pakistan's case, Osama Meir has got a webbing injury.
Speaker: Shadab has got a concussion injury.
Speaker: Because the tournament is so long, the squads are picking up injuries and it's starting to get to a point where your reserves players might be coming in.
Speaker: So we don't know how this is going to look like in a week's time or in two days' time when Pakistan actually plays in New Zealand.
Speaker: But it was a tough loss for New Zealand, not because they just lost the game, not just because they lost a game by a massive margin and it has impacted their net run rate negatively, also because they've picked up a couple of injuries.
Speaker: Anyway, New Zealand comes out to bat.
Speaker: Yay, South Africa!

Speaker: These are the four guys.
Speaker: One of them gets to go on to get a big one.
Speaker: Potentially two of them go on to get a big one and New Zealand chase the score.
Speaker: That did not happen.
Speaker: for the first time i've seen rachan ravindra fail rachan ravindra was strapped by marco jansen on a short ball and he got caught deep square pay uh devon conway went early actually he lost his wicket early he's not gotten away since the start of the world cup so he's due now will young held it together with daryl mitchell for a little bit got 33 of 37 but then again he was uh caught in by the keeper
Speaker: And it was the fourth stump line.
Speaker: Interesting about it.
Speaker: I was watching some analysis that the commentators were doing.
Speaker: Five dismissals out of the seven of the games that he has played.
Speaker: Five times he's been getting out to the same length.

Speaker: Anyway, there's not a lot to write home about except for the fact that Glenn Phillips was the one in the middle who was the only one who showed some resistance.
Speaker: This could have been over a long time ago.
Speaker: Actually, they were 8 for 110 and then they were 133 for 9.
Speaker: but they still got 267 because glenn phillips got a crucial 60. why i say a crucial 60 is because in the context of the net rate situation i think they still saved a little bit yes even though they still took a massive hit they still take a massive hit they went from positive plus 0.9 to positive plus 0.4 i think they've taken a massive hit already but had they capitulated uh 220 130 which it looked like at one point and glenn phillips did not get that 60
Speaker: it could have gone very very wrong for New Zealand so if there was any silver lining it was this that Glenn Phillips you know battered through and battered with the tail okay other than that Keshe Maharaj four wickets Marco Janssen three wickets quits it two Rabada one all in all a brilliant bowling attack Rabada went for at an economy of 2.66 so I thought that was beautiful I really liked enjoyed watching him bowl
Speaker: All in all, absolute domination.
Speaker: New Zealand just capitulated.
Speaker: Yeah, the curious case of Marco Janssen.
Speaker: I want to discuss Marco Janssen in detail.
Speaker: Maybe on this podcast or maybe on another one.
Speaker: But he's played 21 matches, including the World Cup.
Speaker: He's got 34 wickets.
Speaker: And his best was, I think, recently, it's about five wickets on 39.
Speaker: He's played three T20s and he's got five wickets.
Speaker: So he's a, I mean, he's a fairly recent player, right?
Speaker: He is.
Speaker: But his first class record is just unbelievable.
Speaker: Sarmat, his first class record is 31 matches, 51 innings.
Speaker: And he's got 113 wickets.
Speaker: Two and a half wickets in innings.
Speaker: Two and a half wickets in innings.
Speaker: And his average is also pretty good, which is around 22.84.
Speaker: We haven't compared his averages on a lot.
Speaker: I have told you this.
Speaker: Because he's comparatively new in the team.
Speaker: And he's been taking wicket after wicket.
Speaker: He's been troubling Pakistani batsmen.
Speaker: He's been troubling other batsmen as well.
Speaker: What remains to be seen, because he's a medium pacer,
Speaker: uh he's working really well on these indian pitches and i mean who's to say he hasn't it hasn't worked well on south african pitches unbelievable record but he plays for sunrisers hyderabad which are the current champions if i'm not wrong
Speaker: I'm not sure.
Speaker: Yeah, well, he plays for Mumbai.
Speaker: He played for Mumbai, India in Sunrisers, Hyderabad.
Speaker: So he has that experience.
Speaker: I feel like we have our bowlers, which are top 10, in my opinion, I think he will be one of the most impactful bowlers after the Indian bowling lineup.
Speaker: uh shami ke baad mehra khashi yeh benda hai jis ko we have to keep in mind and we completely skipped him because he's comparatively true true true there's a few things that there's a few things to unpack first of all marco jansen is six seven okay his height adds a lot of value on these indian wickets jaha peh bounce nini aata he's the only one who's getting a little bit of an extra bounce because of his height natural height wickets se koi help nini mil rehi
Speaker: He picks up a lot of wickets in South Africa because the wickets are a little bit quicker and you get extra bounce on those wickets.
Speaker: And if you're already 6'7", you're going to trouble most batsmen in the world.
Speaker: So it is no surprise that somebody who can bowl up to 140 and can swing the ball and has a height of 6'7", is going to trouble batsmen.
Speaker: Hands down, he's going to trouble batsmen.
Speaker: Second, he's been around the circuit for a while.
Speaker: He's been playing IPL for a season or two.
Speaker: So he's been around this.
Speaker: Around this.
Speaker: Yeah, just to add to that.
Speaker: If someone is 6'7", we have a 7-foot bowler too.
Speaker: Again, there is a core difference and I don't want to sound too negative towards Pakistan's cricketers.
Speaker: But the basic problem I have is of game awareness.
Speaker: I think a lot of players that come out of Pakistan lack game awareness.
Speaker: Marco Janssen is a smart cricketer.
Speaker: He's a thinking cricketer.
Speaker: And it's not because he picks up wickets.
Speaker: You can actually see him getting runs with the bat as well.
Speaker: He's already got a 70 score in this World Cup.
Speaker: Yes, he has.
Speaker: Even against Pakistan, he got very crucial 20 runs.
Speaker: So he is an impact player.
Speaker: He's a thinking player.
Speaker: He doesn't come across as somebody who just runs in and bowls and expects the ball to do the job for him.
Speaker: He expects...
Speaker: runs in with a plan.
Speaker: How do I have to out this batsman?
Speaker: He's also one of the only few ballers.
Speaker: Not only that, he's one of the few ballers in this World Cup who've picked up regular wickets in the power play.
Speaker: You have to remember that Khariso Rabada is in this team and he doesn't take the new ball since Mark Viansen has come into the team.
Speaker: It takes a lot for a player like Khariso Rabada to not be taking the new ball.
Speaker: So you have to see how talented this guy must be
Speaker: Khariso Rabada is not the one opening the bowling and he would rather Marko Janssen open the bowling.
Speaker: So he's a quality addition.
Speaker: He's been a massive uplift for the South African team with the new ball and the fact that he can bat.
Speaker: And I do think that we missed him in the list.
Speaker: But then again, I picked Rabada, you know, oh, sorry, you picked Rabada.
Speaker: I picked Nigiri.
Speaker: So the fact is, it's such a versatile bowling attack that it's easy to miss somebody.
Speaker: Like you're comparing him to the likes of Nagiri and Rabada who are doing destruction on their own.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: You know, if we only see the game after the game, Rabada has an economy of 2.66 and Nagiri bowls six overs for 28 runs.
Speaker: And he's actually not picked up a wicket.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: But only 28 runs.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: And if you include yesterday's match,
Speaker: So Marco Jansson's total 21 ODIs are.
Speaker: It's just unbelievable.
Speaker: He's very new.
Speaker: I'm very happy to see this guy doing so well.
Speaker: And he's aggressive.
Speaker: Rezvan was saying, I'll take your ball from lipstick.
Speaker: So yeah, man, I'm very excited to see Marco Jansson.
Speaker: But I don't think he... Did he do well against Pakistan?
Speaker: I think he did, right?

Speaker: When you remove Devin Conway and Rajan Ravindra, you've basically taken out the heart of the team.
Speaker: Those are the guys that get runs.

Speaker: Well, and then he also took out Tim Sauti.
Speaker: Well, it's a tale for someone.
Speaker: But anyways, three wickets for Marco Jansson.

Speaker: Keshav Maharaj's 29 dot balls.
Speaker: 31 runs, eight overs and he took three wickets.
Speaker: Amazing bowler.
Speaker: I'll have my eye on Marco Jansson for the next few matches.
Speaker: And we really hope South Africa at least goes to the final because this team really deserves to be in the final, in my opinion.
Speaker: I think we really need to keep an eye on it and I'm praying that they do go into the final wrecking everyone inside and things work out for Pakistan as well as we all do.
Speaker: So, people who have to cut the chille, who have to pray, who have to pray, who have to pray, so that Pakistan can do it from any other way.
Speaker: And there's something we haven't covered yet.
Speaker: Yeah, not really.
Speaker: I think we've gotten most of the stuff in.
Speaker: I think the only thing I'm sort of looking at is there is a game on 5th of November, which is India versus South Africa.
Speaker: I think that will be a game to watch out for because I think that's going to be a precursor of the World Cup final this year.
Speaker: I think India versus South Africa could be the final.
Speaker: So them playing on 5th of November is a very crucial game.
Speaker: I think they are the two heavyweight champions team in this World Cup.
Speaker: I think India go in as favorites in that game, but do not write...
Speaker: South Africa and Marco Janssen off just yet.
Speaker: So 5th of November I think I'll be watching that.
Speaker: I will be watching that too.
Speaker: I'd be watching that if Pakistan beat New Zealand on 4th of November.
Speaker: Because if Pakistan beat... Yeah, sorry.
