Podcast Introduction and Hosts
00:00:42
Speaker
Hello and welcome to Eberron Renewed, a D&D fifth edition actual play podcast set in the Eberron campaign setting. I am your dungeon master, Eric. And I'm Philip. I'm Randy. Yeah. And welcome to another episode of Eberron Renewed. Gentlemen, what occurred previously?
Dex's Victory Over a Mind Flayer
00:01:00
Speaker
Dex fought a mind player. I was about to say we fought a mind player. I blinded a mind player. Me and Dak did not get to participate beyond the first round.
00:01:11
Speaker
I chewed on a monster, and we won. That's all that matters. It left. No, I killed it. Oh, no, you did kill it. I'm sorry. I don't know why it went away in my head that you did. Because that was my intention for it to leave, and then Jeff, with his good rolling, mucked it all up. Well, to be fair, it did leave for a multi-second. And I do.
00:01:37
Speaker
I do recognize the suspiciousness of critting at that moment when we are not at the same table, but I swear to all things that I did actually do that. All right. And what happened after the Mind Flayer fight?
Family Ties Revealed: Beric's Lineage
00:01:54
Speaker
Well, I would say that Drakir and Theradak work very well surviving in a storm. But our wonderful friend, Dex,
00:02:06
Speaker
Call him Human Lightning Rod. Yeah, I lost a little damage. Just 11 points. Yeah. And then we made it to our destination, where a bombshell was dropped. That bombshell being? Yes, trickier is Beric Rowan's half-brother. And the shaman is? Beric's father. Okay, and there's a goblin named Booyah.
00:02:35
Speaker
Let's just pick up where we left off. You all have just been asked what happened to my son. He did not want to be a lycanthrope. You're a bear. You're a bear's dad. Yes. Who are you? My name is Dex and a bear and I have been fighting alongside each other for
00:03:00
Speaker
a couple of years now. Well, we've been working together for a couple of years. We've been fighting alongside each other for a couple of months. Your son was infected by a werebore and because of his beliefs, he took a risky maneuver to try to fix that problem and it killed him. Can you recover the sword?
00:03:29
Speaker
quiet. And you two can tell that was pointedly directed at neither of Theradac nor Dex. Right. I just don't I don't know what else Dex would say.
00:03:43
Speaker
Forgive me, I'm, I'm eligible for him. Um, and then what you said, Rick here kind of processes in his mind.
Mission: Recover the Sword
00:03:55
Speaker
And it seems like this is the first moment he's noticing the sword and he recoils and kind of falls back off of his knees into a sitting position. And you hear him just muttered, no.
00:04:14
Speaker
Not him. No. Not him anymore. Can you recover the sword? Now, wait a second. What do you mean, not him? Was this sword? Has this thing been feeding him lies the whole time? Have we been following this thing and he got killed because of these lies? It's not lies. It's just... It's too much.
00:04:41
Speaker
It's too much for anyone to wield. It appeared that way, yes. I bring him over here to the table and he begins to walk away very determined with Booyah in tow. I got Booyah. I follow with the sword.
00:05:11
Speaker
or with the sword and the man to whom it is attached. Dex is Dex is fairly secure now that the shaman will do what he can to spare the body to get the sword.
Quest for the Kyber Dragon Shard
00:05:28
Speaker
Theredac and Dex, give me perception checks as you approach the work table. 15.
00:05:41
Speaker
16. This is my passive. Okay, you're both able to notice as you get Barak over there that there is a framed drawn portrait on the work desk of a woman that bears a striking resemblance to Barak.
00:06:05
Speaker
I've been working with the magic here to try some experiments that I think the timetable is going to have to move up rather rapidly on. I think there may be a chance to save Beric.
00:06:30
Speaker
Yeah. All right. What do you need us to do? I'm in for this. Um, hopefully we can detach him from the sword in the process. Um, we thank you for succeeding in your mission and doing your duty. And he reaches down and takes the Eberron dragon shard from Booyah and sets it on the table.
00:06:57
Speaker
I need a, a Kyber dragon shard to complete the rich, to have all the components I need. I'm sorry. I'm trying to think. Um, it's, I know of a place that Kyber dragon shards are supposed to have grow.
00:07:24
Speaker
but it is deeper under the earth in Kyber. It's a dangerous mission, but if they are there, then there's a chance that we can do this.
Family Dynamics and Duties
00:07:41
Speaker
All right, Dex says... Well, I'm willing to...
00:07:47
Speaker
I won't try anything. I don't know what Kyber Dragon Shard looks like. I don't know what I'm looking for. Drake here will be able to point them out. He's going with you. Why am I going with them? Why is he going with us? Is this about recovering the sword? Or saving your Outland Brat? Oh, Dex is mad now.
00:08:13
Speaker
Dex's teeth get sharper. Eladrin slams a fist on the table and looks at you, Drakir. Watch your tone. The sword is of little consequence to the fight here. It is a weapon. We are here for weapons. Yes. I understand that this is something that does not stick in your head very well.
00:08:42
Speaker
The boy is nothing. He is dead. Boy ate poison standing in the road. What use is that? Sword is a weapon. Sword can be used to save our people. Boy, if you speak of your brother again that way, then this fight will no longer be yours. Your fight will be with the worms in the dirt.
00:09:19
Speaker
Now, this weapon that you wish to use, that you cannot comprehend, that you have only heard about in tall tales, from your mother when I returned, is folly.
00:09:37
Speaker
This weapon will not help you. This weapon has a mind of its own. You will no longer want to fight this fight with this weapon. So please, stop talking about things you do not understand. The weapon will not help us in this war. What is the purpose of going into Khyber?
00:10:00
Speaker
purpose is to save a soul that can help us in this fight. The weapon is of little consequence. The boy will help us retake our home. Yes.
Preparing for the Khyber Expedition
00:10:16
Speaker
Insight check. 20. You can tell
00:10:29
Speaker
He believes what he is saying is true, but it's not a direct truth.
00:11:00
Speaker
back as well. And I know that you didn't see it because you were riding on the ground, but I'm pretty formidable in a fight. We are going to give Barak whether your other son goes or not. Yeah, I can find my way in Cairo. In spite of my
00:11:26
Speaker
Other Sun's simple view of the world. He is useful when it comes to navigating Kyber. What help will he be if he doesn't wish to be there? He is skilled with his shadow blades. And more importantly, he knows the way. And last time I checked, Drakir.
00:11:54
Speaker
You are here upon my request. Your mother sent you here. So, unless you wish to go run back to mommy, you would be wise to do what I say. You will speak to me of duty and not leaving my place. You will speak to me of this.
00:12:23
Speaker
That is why I warn you against the weapon. I went to try and find a weapon for my people, your people, in this fight. And you became distracted. He looks pointedly at the body. This almost make Therid that glad he have no family anymore.
00:12:50
Speaker
Drakir. This is why players always build orphans. Drakir, I know that there's very little love lost towards me from you. And the fact that I am your father does nothing to engender you to me. And despite what you may think,
00:13:20
Speaker
I do care about you a great deal and enough to know that you hate it here and you may very well hate me for the sins of my past. So if you do this, I can assure you that I will make it so that you do not have to take orders from me again.
00:13:49
Speaker
You will get to go fight the great fight on the front lines. Go serve your people well, destroying abaliths and mind flayers. You will not be stuck here watching me do my experiments and going and playing fetch. One last noble quest for your father. And then I will cut you loose. It is reassuring that you are consistent
00:14:19
Speaker
and call me by my name rather than boy when you need something. Fine. I'll make sure the Outlanders don't die well. I'll make sure the Outlanders find their way in Kyber. They're not dying, that's on them. That's all I can ask. We'll try to do the same for you.
00:14:49
Speaker
You don't you don't know the way to show me. I'm talking about staying alive. It's a core. It's a core very in custom called sarcasm. Look, you show us the way we'll keep you alive. Let's go.
00:15:10
Speaker
Very well. You may leave Beric's remains behind. I will guard over them and Booyan, I will prepare the ritual. Booyan. Don't emphasize it that way. It's just Booyan. Think of it spelled B-U-Y-A or something. I can't not emphasize it that way.
00:15:39
Speaker
I've watched a lot of SportsCenter in high school in college. Let's do Scott. Okay. I mean, Dex doesn't need me. You know, honestly, the one thing Dex needs, these guys probably don't have, which is world-like wands. No, they do not. And maybe a healing potion. I could use that 11 points back. No, I don't. I actually need that.
00:16:08
Speaker
Would you like a healing potion? What's that? Would you like a healing potion? Uh, yeah. Yeah. I'd like to stick something to put in my belt. Booyah has three on him. Booyah. Give them over. All right. So we each take, do we each take one and I'm just going to go ahead and drain mine now. Sure. Okay. Uh, you don't want to just spend some hit dice maybe.
Journey into Khyber: Lava Challenges
00:16:34
Speaker
Oh yeah. I can do that. I actually, I have,
00:16:37
Speaker
Okay, explain to me, now that I'm multi-classed, how did the hit dice work? Do I have one D10 and four D6? Yes. So I can use... I may as well use that D10 first, huh? It's the barbarian, not a D12. Oh, is it 12? Let me double check. Yeah, it is. Used to be. So I thought it was D12. Okay, so I got one D12. All right, I'm gonna roll that one first and maybe save my 50. Well, that's an eight on the D12. I'll just save the sixes for later and take eight back. Okay.
00:17:06
Speaker
Okay, so I'm back up to 4d5 hit points. 4d5. Okay. All right. Are you all ready to head out? Yeah. All right. Drick here. Lead the way.
00:17:26
Speaker
I do. I follow. Okay, so near the back of this cavern, there is a pretty small opening. It's about four feet wide. You're not having to squeeze through, but it's definitely a little claustrophobic for your liking that heads at a pretty steady clip downward. And it just very quickly becomes pitch black down here.
00:17:52
Speaker
you all venture for a while the the cave continues to close down around you to the point where you're having to almost rock climb horizontally through this schism in the earth the rock that you're having to traverse is is wet and covered in what feels like a fine layer of slime as you you try to traverse through and you you start feeling
00:18:19
Speaker
You go to reach out for the rock for another handhold and about one in every five times you find yourself grabbing something soft almost as if there's things growing on the cave walls. The cave begins to open up somewhat as you continue to climb downward and you see you all have been traveling down for probably 45 minutes at this point.
00:18:43
Speaker
and you come out of the schism that you were climbing down into a pathway.
Spotting the Kyber Dragon Shards
00:18:51
Speaker
It's almost as if you have crawled down through the wall and you see faint orange light reflecting off of the wet cave walls. And Drakir, you know that you need to head towards the source of that orange light.
00:19:05
Speaker
you all find yourself in a, as you walk in a cavern that, Drakir, you've been told how to get here, but you've never actually ventured into this part of Khyber because many people have spoken of the danger of coming here. As you all enter the cavern, you see a river of lava flowing through the center of it.
00:19:30
Speaker
And you all are on steady footing where you're at, but there is a narrow five foot wide bridge that, uh, made out of stone. Like it seems like it's almost naturally grown there. That leads across the bridge and directly on the other side, Drakir, you see and recognize, um, a cluster of Kyber dragon shards sitting on the other side of the river of lava. Oh, that was easy. You know, bear could fly.
00:19:57
Speaker
Just, uh, that is what we want. All right. What do I see? Everyone give me perception checks. 16, 18, very poor. Third act. I mean, I rolled a three. I just, my passive's good. Oh, oh, fair enough. Passive. I keep forgetting about that. 16, 16. Um, actually none, like you all see what I described to you. Um,
00:20:27
Speaker
I would like to use my primeval awareness and sense aberrations. Okay. No, I'm sorry. I may not have been clear. Dex is getting this Kyra dragon shard regardless because of the barrack thing, but he didn't know what it looked like. I don't know what it looked like. Is this a, is this a gem that resembles the thing I'm looking for, for the greater purpose as well? They're not read with silvery light now. Okay. That's what I was asking.
00:20:53
Speaker
Uh, I'm using my credible awareness to sense aberrations. Okay. Um, you are able to, um, you do sense, um, an aberration nearby, uh, the number of aberrations one, whether it's like, and it's general direction and distance. It is about 40 feet away from you, or I would say 60 feet away from you and above you.
00:21:24
Speaker
Can I see the ceiling of this room? Yes. With my dark vision. Well, you all can see it. The lava is lighting the room. Right. Pretty well. Yes, you see a hole in the ceiling above where the Kyber Dragon Shards are. There is something above us. What does that mean? There's a lot above us. We are under the damn ground. There is a creature above us.
00:21:53
Speaker
I cannot see it, but I sense it. Some form of aberration. I think perhaps that hole above, you see the hole above the shards. Is there a check I could make to guess what manner of aberration would make that kind of layer? Sure.
00:22:20
Speaker
We use Arcana for aberration knowledge or nature. They're not natural, so let's go with Arcana. Are you sure? Yes. Well, shoot. 12. You don't really know. Yeah. All right, so what can I learn from an acrobatics role? It's a little high to get up there unless you scale the walls. Because for some reason, I put a lot into acrobatics.
00:22:51
Speaker
parkour, you know, it held on the train. Yes. That's true. That was really helpful on the train. Okay. So you all are staring at the cluster of Kyber shards that you need. So I say, um, all right. So I guess, uh, the, the smart thought here, uh, as far as I can figure is that if it's right above this and that
00:23:21
Speaker
That when we go for it, we're going to get attacked. Have an idea. Give me a minute. Therefore we should be ready.
Battle with the Beholder Begins
00:23:28
Speaker
Where's your bird? Oh, uh, actually I, I, I entirely just lost the train of it in my, um, in the moment, but, uh, he would have released, he would have dismissed the, um, Stratos before going into the storm. Just a regular old Hawk with one hit point.
00:23:51
Speaker
I left my bird in my other pants. Is there any kind of cave dwelling creature, regular old creature, near at hand? No. OK, sorry. There's not a cave cricket bat, something like that.
00:24:14
Speaker
You see a small familiar mouse come out of the wall and look up. Oh, that'll do. Oh no. Don't kill cash. Are you? I don't know. It's going to die. Okay. Well, I'll try something hardly new cash based on the little I know about your character thus far. I'm guessing he would die if it's part of trickier's plan. Uh, maybe the cure would not be concerned about the death of a mouse. Plus he would not recognize the mouse as significant to anyone.
00:24:44
Speaker
mouse. Anyway, instead, I will use my dancing lights cantrip. Okay, which says that I can combine the four lights into one glowing vaguely humanoid medium form. Okay. The range on is 120 feet. Am I within 120 feet of the crystals? Yes. Okay, so I caused them to move
00:25:14
Speaker
toward the crystals. As much as possible, I would like them to pass under the hole. Once it gets below the hole, it dissipates. Like nothing destroyed it, it just snuffed out. Interesting. Well, I can cast Detect Magic at will, so I will do so. Is there a magical aura emanating from the hole? No.
00:25:41
Speaker
I don't know why it did that. And I cannot sense what caused it. Something is absolutely.
00:25:58
Speaker
lurking near the shards. We need the shard. Theradex starts walking toward it. Okay. There's a river of lava between us. Well, there's a five foot bridge going over. Oh yes. There's a bridge over a river of lava. Is the hole over the bridge? So Theradex going across the bridge. Are you all joining him or waiting? I can't let him, I can't let him go alone. Okay. He starts, dumbass starts walking. I got to walk with him.
00:26:30
Speaker
You need the shard, Drakir. I know, I know. That's their DAX mindset. We need the shard. Well, for a much different reason for Drakir. Yes. Oh, we're walking. Here we go. At least he and I, DAX. Drakir. I've caught up to him. You're walking around. I will stay a little behind them. I'm okay with
00:26:57
Speaker
Dracure would be okay with Dak triggering whatever is about to happen while he's far enough back that he will not be caught in whatever blast of fire or acid or psionic energy emits from the hole. Okay. Keeping an eye on that hole. Yes. Um, you can't see. I do go ahead and form my shadow blades. Okay. Um, Dex, are you prepping in hybrid form or anything like that or? Well, I, I actually,
00:27:26
Speaker
In my head, I never said this out loud. I assumed that I was, I was in hybrid form the whole time. Okay. Climbing and doing physical things. Okay. So yeah, I'm already there. So, um, once you two reach the other side of the bridge, um, actually, you know what? Give me a survival check. You're walking over a river of lava without any real protection on a five foot wide bridge.
00:27:54
Speaker
Yeah, that's not very wide and there's no railing. I'm dexterous as a mother. What? Nineteen. Okay. Cool. Four. Thanks, Eric.
00:28:07
Speaker
I don't think this is about not falling in, Jeff. I think it's probably about the incredible heat. The heat? Yeah. Go ahead and give me or put a tally mark on your sheet decks as you have one point of exhaustion, which just that relates to you having disadvantage on ability checks. So that does not include attacks. Everyone calm down. I'm not uncomfortable.
00:28:37
Speaker
Okay, once you all reach the other side of the bridge... May I ready an action? I'm sorry, do I need to cross the bridge? How far from the bridge are the crystals? The river of lava is about 20 feet wide.
00:28:58
Speaker
So, um, and then it's about another 30 feet after that past the bridge. So you're saying the edge of the bridge, you're about 50 feet away from the crystals. Okay. Then I will, I will cross to the other side of the bridge. Okay. Um, I have a, uh, I'm sorry, I'm making my survival check. I have a 20 on my survival check. Okay.
00:29:22
Speaker
Um, as soon as you two, since you were walking ahead, Dex and Theradak, um, reach the other side. Um, Dex or Theradak, you notice first, as you kind of glance over to Dex, he's in changeling form. Just white skin, flowing white hair, pretty featureless and new up, not in hybrid form.
00:29:51
Speaker
So Theradak would say, Dex, what's going on with you? You don't look the same. All right. When I look down at my hands, what do I see? You see the same thing. You look like your natural changeling self. Ah. So we're in some magic null field? Some sort of, yeah, some sort of anti-magic field. You hear echoing around you.
00:30:20
Speaker
Oh, how foolish. And you, you can tell the sources from above and you look up and you see floating down out of the hole, a large spherical shaped creature with a large eye. Oh man. I hate it when Philip reacts like that. Stocks coming off of its form with other smaller eyes as it floats down towards you.
00:30:49
Speaker
Oh, this will be fun. I hope you have fun too. You won't remember it, but hmm, this will be delightful. You seem a bit weak for someone like me, but I'm a little rusty. We'll see how this goes. Initiative. Pause.
00:31:12
Speaker
For two reasons. When I have a question, too, I've got to pee. It's the first one. Not good. The answer is not good. It's very bad. No. Does a magical knoll field negate curses as well? It's a magical curse. So, I mean... Oh, what are you referencing? I'm referencing my being able to use claw and bite.
00:31:39
Speaker
Cause it's not, I mean, it's a magical curse, but it's a very real curse. It's in my blood. Yeah. I'll go and say you can use Lycanthropy. Okay. I have a 22. 22. 16. I don't, I don't think Theradak's dragon mark would be affected either.
00:31:59
Speaker
No, I wouldn't expect so. I need to register my complaint that none of you left at my awesome Simon and Garfunkel fantasy parody, like a bridge overflowing lava. I'm sure the listeners did. It was really, it was really good. What's your initiative, Dex? I'm sorry. I should roll. I should roll that. Oh, 18. Okay. Ha.
00:32:27
Speaker
I'm not used to it. Are you ahead of me? I'm going to go before you. Yeah. It doesn't happen much. Drakir, Dex is surprised. I think Dex might be surprised again. Okay, Drakir, you are up first. This thing has floated down about 20 feet, so it's roughly 20 feet above the ground.
00:32:49
Speaker
So I know I've never fought one, but being what I am, do I know what it is? Yes, you have heard tale of the beholder. Okay, bonus action is Slayer's Eye. Okay. Any resistances or vulnerabilities I should be aware of. Or I am able to be aware of, because it doesn't matter if I should or not. It's the rule. It is immune to being knocked prone.
00:33:17
Speaker
That makes sense. It seems, you know, just levitating there. That's that's reasonable. OK. Boy, this is this is this would be a bad fight for Beric. Everything about Beric is magic. OK, so can I. Can I make a check to see if I know
00:33:46
Speaker
the extent of its anti-magicness. Yeah, give me an arcana check. See if I am, if Dracarys is aware of these things. 15. You've heard through legend of the Drow people, the Umbrageen specifically, that if a beholder looks at you, it takes away your magic. Okay, so what I would like to do is I want to dodge
00:34:15
Speaker
sideways like what since it's looking at them I want to move to the side to essentially be out of the cone I guess of its eye that makes sense okay and then I'm gonna throw my shadow blades at it okay that's 22 on my first attack that is a hit thank goodness that is 11 damage on the first hit okay and then on the second
00:34:44
Speaker
17. Miss. Oh god. How much damage was that first attack? 11. 11. Okay. It is now the beholder's turn. I'm sorry, before the beholder's turn. He is going to use a legendary action. Oh man, I forgot they had these. This sounds awful. They get to do stuff off turn. This is a bad place to fight it. They're all bad though. There's no good ones.
00:35:14
Speaker
None of them like heal you. Oh, Mark. Quick with those blades. I think it might be advantageous for me. It's for you to take it easy. Dexterity saving throw. Oh, I'm good at this.
00:35:33
Speaker
23. 23. Okay. It's an array of purple energy shoots out at you but you manage to dive out of the way as it hits the ground. Now it is the beholder's turn.
00:35:51
Speaker
So he is going to, um, angrily, uh, just kind of grit its teeth at Drake here's quickness. Fine. If you won't slow down and take it easy, let's have you run away then wisdom saving throw. And it's a fear. I don't think that affects your wisdom. Yes. 22.
00:36:20
Speaker
Okay. So a yellow ray shoots out at you and you manage to step out of the way of that and it snarls. Dex. Okay. It's a big orb. Oh, and it moved down to ground level now. So. Okay. It's a big orb with a big eye. Yes.
00:36:44
Speaker
Okay. And it's currently looking at you and the Theron act. All right. Well, that big guy is about to get a weapon. Uh, I'm going to roll, kind of roll both my attacks and then narrate it. Yes. Okay. First claw is a 14 miss second claw.
00:37:05
Speaker
Is it 18? Hit. Okay. Let's just pretend the first one didn't happen. There it goes. No, describe your failure. So I run at this monster with my claws out because it can do a lot of things, but it cannot keep me from like and broken. So I run as hard as I can and I roll the wrong dice. Those were D10.
00:37:35
Speaker
And so I stab it with one claw right, right in the eye or.
00:37:43
Speaker
awesome both both my sneak attack die hit six nice so that's 28 points of damage nice and it's just a strict it's like wolverine punch style in and out okay so you scratches it at its eye and it recoils and shouts in anger as it it's eye kind of rolls around and then locks on you decks
00:38:07
Speaker
You lesser beings have no right to touch me. And he is going to use another legendary action. How many of these does he get? Three per round. Oh Jesus, a round is four. No, like a round is each time we go around in turns, like I'm at the top of the round. Right. That's what I'm saying. So he can one after you, his move, one after me, one after that. Yeah.
00:38:37
Speaker
Okay, because of the eye ray that he rolled, he is not attacking you, Dex. His eye stock shoots up and he laughs and says, if you're so intent on getting up close and personal, why don't you stick around for a while?
00:38:54
Speaker
And you see a bright ray of white light shoot out and hit the middle of the bridge.
Strategic Assault on the Beholder
00:39:02
Speaker
And now in the stone disintegrates as there's now a 10 foot gap in the middle of the bridge. That was not my fault. OK, it is now Theradak's turn. Theradak's going to go for that same ice stalk.
00:39:20
Speaker
You're going to try to chop the disintegration eyestock off? Yes. Okay. Yeah, but there that doesn't know the difference between the eyestocks or anything. Well, going after the one that just disintegrated the bridge. Yeah. 21. That's a hit. That's 15 damage. Okay. We're going to faint and get advantage on the next attack. Okay. 21.
00:39:47
Speaker
Okay, that's a hit. 17 damage, and that's it.
00:39:51
Speaker
So you just did like a total of 30 something damage to this eye stock. So I'm going to say, are you using your axe or your great sword? The great sword. Okay. Um, narratively, because it's up at the top of this thing and it's a large creature, Dex runs up, slashes its eye. It disintegrates the bridge. You run up and leap off of Dex up above the beholder and slice into this eye stock and the eye stock comes flying.
00:40:21
Speaker
off and it screams with anger. Okay. It is now, um, trickier's trick. Oh, apologies. Yeah. Yeah. Legendary action. Okay. Give me a strength saving throw, uh, Theradak. 19.
00:40:43
Speaker
Okay, you see blue light shoot out and kind of wrap around you, but as you're falling back to the ground after having leapt up, but you flex your muscles and throw it off of you, and you notice as you break it off, your dragon mark begins to glow with blue light. Okay, it is now Drakir's turn. Okay.
00:41:10
Speaker
I will move around behind it, move into melee with it, and strike at it. I'm gonna get to strike at it three times. So first time is 22. 22, that's a hit. It takes 12 points of damage. Second time's a miss.
00:41:37
Speaker
Third time is 16, which doesn't hit it, does it? Miss. So I stab it good one time, and then the others are deflected by its gross, wrinkly hide. It wheels around and looks at Yudrkir, the same eye stock that just tried to cast some blue light at Theradak. It shoots energy out at you, so a strength saving throw, please.
00:42:10
Speaker
14. That feels like the DM reading the effects.
00:42:17
Speaker
The blue light extends out and whereas the other energy that you've seen has been straight and in a line and hit something, this blue light wraps around you and pins your arms to your side as it holds you up into the, lifts you up into the air and holds you there. Oh. Stay.
00:42:42
Speaker
Foul creature. Well, we can't go anywhere. He already took out our bridge. What is the effect that I'm under? Um, his telekinetic ray. You are. That's what I meant. Yeah. Sorry. The condition, I guess is what I should have said. Okay. And just incapable of not being really honest about things like this.
00:43:06
Speaker
What is him looking to, looking at me due to my weapons? They're gone. Okay. Um, okay. It is now the beholder's turn. So he is going to keep it simple. He wheels back around, uh, kind of flinging Dracure with him, keeping him in front of him and his giant mouth opens decks as he goes to bite you. Okay.
00:43:39
Speaker
That's crit. Mm hmm. Randy, would you like to verify? I believe I was gonna say I, I rolled natural 20s like four times in my attempt to steal barracks body so
00:44:01
Speaker
You know, something tells me I just don't think you would crit on a beholder biting my friend. You know, and cheat on purpose, no. Okay. The teeth sink down into your skin, Dex, as he deals 12 damage to you. Okay. And now it is Dex's turn.
00:44:29
Speaker
I'm gonna bite him back. Okay. You are not gonna believe this. Oh my god. Do you see it? It's the green one. Yep. Crit. Okay. So... Roll your percentile. Yeah, I need to find my d10. I never get to find my d10. 90.
00:44:55
Speaker
I feel like I've rolled it 90 before on the crit table. Okay, let's start off. Triple damage. Okay, hang on. That's 2d10. 1... 2... Jeff, real quick, I'm sorry. I didn't double his damage for the crit. 24 damage on the bike. That is certainly different. Okay, so...
00:45:20
Speaker
That's, I roll the d10 three times each. Then I add, and then I have a modifier and then I can do sneak attack one time. Right? Okay. 10. Lost one. Table. This table is small, apparently. It's a huge table. Holy cow. 26. 36 plus four is 40. Add my sneak attack.
00:45:49
Speaker
47 points of damage. Okay. And do you have a, a winning one-liner since he just bit you? Yeah, I'll say, um, screw you buddy. Eloquent is always Dex. Um, okay. So yeah, you just bite into this gross flesh of a beholder, um, and take a chunk away as you deal an insane amount of damage. Now the next constitution should save for bacterial infection.
00:46:19
Speaker
Now the next part of your crit, roll 1d10. He is now bleeding 3 damage every turn, every round.
00:46:38
Speaker
Like, at the beginning of his turn, he was... And he is now stunned for a round. Does that mean no legendary actions? Yes. All attacks have advantage on him. That's really the only... And his ability to talk is impaired, but not lost. So, I mean, you know... Good, because he was sassy. I didn't like it.
00:47:00
Speaker
Okay, so that was Dex's turn. It is now Theradak. I love this dice. Theradak wants to go after what's holding Drake here. Okay. Take a swipe at that. And he feels this blue energy, he feels this energy coursing through him and he swings and he has advantage.
00:47:29
Speaker
It's Jeff's fault. Caught my small table dizzy. I did. I'm officially recommending that you delete all the stuns from that table. Stun with no save is way crazy powerful. Yeah. 23. 23, that's a hit. 16 damage. Okay.
00:47:51
Speaker
and i'm going to do a goading attack okay and it's going to be another two damage okay and he needs to make a wisdom saving throw dc15 he fails okay this means he has disadvantage on attacks other than against therodak until the end of my next turn okay so i got another attack coming
00:48:23
Speaker
When your blade hits him, the blue energy drains out of your mark as the beholder loses its grip on Drakir and Drakir falls to the ground and he launches across this, not over the river of lava, but he slams into the back wall near the Kyber shards as you just launch him with energy. Cool. Yeah.
00:48:52
Speaker
So yeah, go in. Move over to him. Okay. And swing again. Crit. Would you like to look at my die? I try to get cool monsters in here for you guys to fight and you just crit, crit, crit. It's that table. Got a table with no safe stuns on it. 24.
00:49:23
Speaker
No ones or twos on damage dice. I already have that. Well, three or fours. No, no. Mistakes have been made. We will learn from them. Angel fight was boring as hell to listen to. Man, it was fun to play though. It was fun for like two rounds. Then we're just rolling dice. He takes 16 damage.
00:49:51
Speaker
Okay, all right. It is now Drakir's turn. You are free. I'm stunned. You're stunned? You stunned me. I restrained you. And I can't add, he takes five more damage. Because he critted on Jeff, not you. And yeah, he just restrained you. Okay. I will go over and attack. No.
00:50:21
Speaker
Was that a one? With advantage, I have critically fumbled. What? Oh, that's a bummer. Okay, percentile die. 83. 83? 83. You would. Thank God. Nothing unusual happens. Oh, that's weird. Yeah.
00:50:49
Speaker
Why is that an option? That's, that's part of the table. Somebody ran out of ideas. There's no part of the critical hit table that says nothing awesome happens, but you know, person who designed that table was not a DM. Good player designed that to mess with the DM. Okay. All right. Uh, second attack. Well, I have more attacks. Do it again. No, not this time. Um, 20.
00:51:20
Speaker
Hit. Rolled crappy on the damage though, so. Six, so 10 damage. And then a, as a bonus action, I'll attack with my offhand. 20 again. This time it's a miss. 18 damage. Run over.
00:51:51
Speaker
out of view of his big eye, reform my knives, and just stab both of them into his body. Okay. All right. The beholder writes itself and gets up, still bleeding pretty profusely from that bite wound. And he is going to use an eye ray. Kaedric here. I'm gonna need... It'll be a disadvantage.
00:52:21
Speaker
Well, oh, because it's not you. It's not an attack though. Huh? Yeah. What kind of save? Wisdom. Okay. Is this charm? No. Okay. Wait a second. Not Drake here. My bad. There a deck. Okay.
00:52:48
Speaker
Cause I realized in the 11th hour, this would actually have no effect on Drakir. 17. Oh my God. You guys suck.
00:53:01
Speaker
Um, a, a ray of black energy comes out and hits you and you feel exhaustion, like wave over you, but you fight it off and you see this. It's not black. It's like twilight colored light emanating from your mark. Your power has no effect on me. That's right. Taunt it. That's a good idea. I, while I goad at him,
00:53:31
Speaker
Mm-hmm. I will see you all swim in that river before this is done. Okay, it is now Dex's turn. I'm going to double claw his eyes again. Or his eyes, his singular, his maiden. Yeah. First one is a, no, it's a 14. Second is a 14. Oh. Okay. Dex is just going to
00:54:00
Speaker
Just going to punch the air for him. Once again, legendary action. Oh, legendary action. Oh, same team. DM. Number of times he's let us go back and re and use our power. This is true.
00:54:24
Speaker
I'm okay with him being a better person than me. I got no problem. I'm not. Atheridact, it's still got a beef with you for launching him across the room. So I'm going to need a Constitution saving throw. Those are never good. Although fighters are usually good at them. 26. What the hell? I'm sorry. No, that's wrong. 25. No, no, wait, wait. Four.
00:54:52
Speaker
25. This thing is CR 13. What? Okay. Nothing happens. There, Eric. You're up. All right. Now he shall swing. Should not be able to win this fight.
Victory: Beholder Defeated
00:55:12
Speaker
I really thought Eric was going to kill us. 24. Hit. And I have black stuff going through me.
00:55:18
Speaker
Yes. Thirteen damage. Thirteen. Okay, Theradak you run up with your great sword and as you begin your swing the black energy flows out of your dragon mark as your sword makes contact and it erupts in bright daylight.
00:55:37
Speaker
Oh crap. As your sword makes contact and you see the eye of this beholder just explode out of the socket as its skin pulses out from its body and it slumps onto the ground in a heap of just flesh and just steam and smoke and burning. I told you your power did not bother me.
00:56:08
Speaker
All right, Drakir, go stab it in its head and throw it in the river or whatever. Drakir is on the ground. Oh, daylight. OK. Are you? What's the matter, Drow? OK. Did that monster hurt you? No. Daylight.
00:56:30
Speaker
Oh, I'm sorry about that. I have no control. I see. The monster is dead. Well, that is good.
Harvesting the Kyber Dragon Shards
00:56:44
Speaker
his dagger that he still has inexplicably from the first day we played and starts stabbing at the dirt or whatever that is holding these dragon shards. It's in the rock. Huh? It's in the rock. It grows out of the rock and the cave. Starts chipping away at the rock. Dragon shards. Drakir, you would have mining tools on you since gathering dragon shards is also part of your deal right now. Sure.
00:57:13
Speaker
Okay. It takes you all probably about 30 minutes to, to get this dragon shard intact out as you all wrench it free from the stone. Um, you hear from behind you just there.
00:57:35
Speaker
Well done! End of episode.
