Speaker: You know what the world needs more of right now? A podcast about the Second World War. The world does not need another podcast about the Second World War, but what we could do is we could look at the Lowlander. Ah, the Lowlander.
Speaker: Lowlander, the service newsletter that was handed out to the men of the 52nd Lowlander Division between mid -November 1944 and May 1945.
Speaker: Right, so what we could do is we could get a week's worth of Lowlanders together. We could have a look at the best stories that jump off the page, anything from politics to home news to the football results. And we could record that and release that as a podcast. But only up to the end of the war because we've got all the additions day by day, but they finish in May 1945. Fantastic. So that means I could tell everybody every week all about the 52nd Lowlander vision. I'm sure people can't wait hanging off the edge of their seats.
Speaker: Yeah, but there's a lot of stuff that they cover in here from politics all the way through to stories about film stars. That's a lot of subjects to cover. Are you sure we know everything there is to know about all that stuff? I know nothing about all that stuff, all right? But what I can do is drive Wikipedia with one hand and Google with the other. And between the two of us, I'm pretty sure that we can come up with some context for what the lads were reading. That's beginning to sound like a podcast.
Speaker: Terrifying isn't it? From 1944 to 1945 the 52nd Lowland Division is fighting its way across Northwest Europe. The writing is on the wall but it's also on the page. The Army Education Branch sends a newsletter out to thousands of men all pulling together pushing the enemy back. This newsletter is called
