How many of us know deeply that God won't let us go? Moses is reminding the Israelites of this. He reminds them of this after he says that they are going to be so far. They will be worshipping other gods and be scattered, but he says they will seek God. They will seek God with all their heart and being. When we seek God like this, then we can deeply take in that God does not let go! No matter how far away we feel, He can pluck us out of exile and into His loving arms!

Hello, welcome to Filling You Up with Hope, where we where I go through the Bible. um We started in Genesis and now we're in Deuteronomy.

Mental Health and God's Support

00:00:14
fillingyouupwithhope
And we always find hope and we talk about mental health things and parenting things. And today is something that makes could make anybody feel better no matter what they're going through.
00:00:30
fillingyouupwithhope
And that is that God won't let you go, no matter what you're going through, taking in those words deeply. And I'm sorry if I'm a little nasally, I'm getting over a cold.

Moses and the Israelites' Journey

00:00:45
fillingyouupwithhope
But um so Deuteronomy, the first part, Moses is kind of chronicling what the Israelites have been through. And we're going to be at the end of Deuteronomy three and early in four, um, for, um, our verses that are great. But thinking about, he won't let you go. So many of us have been rejected in some way by, um, in a romantic relationship, um, a friendship, a job.
00:01:27
fillingyouupwithhope
um that all different areas of life, right? And the beauty and God will let you go and we're really gonna kind of go through that and different areas of that.

Dealing with Rejection

00:01:41
fillingyouupwithhope
And the beauty of that is no matter how rejected we feel and no matter like the rejection and pain that we've been through,
00:01:57
fillingyouupwithhope
God says, and we know that God is true and faithful and he says that he won't let us go, that he's, you know, always going to be there. And so taking that in and what to do if you're feeling right now rejected, right? Um, we're going to go through some things.

Letting Go and Trusting God

00:02:25
fillingyouupwithhope
So But I initially, when I thought of he won't let you go, I was thinking about like, um, holding my kids' hands. Like now they're 10 and 12, but still, if I'm with my 10 year old, like we're not that far from New York city and sometimes we go not that often, but if we do, I don't care that he's 10. Like I like, you're holding my hand. You're holding my hand and you aren't letting go.
00:02:56
fillingyouupwithhope
Cause I'm trying to protect him and keep him safe. And, um, and I remember with my older son, he, when he started kindergarten, he wanted to take the bus and, you know, I, I was, I was nervous. I don't think he was that nervous, but I was. So we I waited at the bus with him with my husband and my other son and it gets on the bus and then I'm not ready to let go.
00:03:25
fillingyouupwithhope
So I like followed the bus and this is when we lived in Mississippi and they let me just go to his classroom. So I went to his classroom and I waved at him and then he got upset. He was totally fine. I could see him in the classroom. He was happy, he was fine. But then when he saw me, he got upset and I was having trouble letting go and really,
00:03:56
fillingyouupwithhope
ah to let go as humans, right?

Idolatry and Deep Prayer

00:04:02
fillingyouupwithhope
we It's interesting. We have to know that God doesn't let go and god and we have to trust God and have deep faith. And then we're able to let go. So ah it's interesting.
00:04:25
fillingyouupwithhope
oh how God doesn't let go, therefore we can let go and trust. And sometimes we need to let go and we're not being obedient when we're holding onto something so tight because sometimes that thing is an idol, right? And its and we need to be trusting God. Like instead of being so fearful with my son, going to kindergarten,
00:04:56
fillingyouupwithhope
Which it was fine, he did great in kindergarten. But I really, you know, and i had I did pray for it to go well, but did I really pray? Did I really deeply pray? um There's a Bible verse we're gonna get to later about that. Sometimes the surface level pray. And we don't really trust that God has really got the situation that he really won't let go, that I can really trust him. It's kind of like doing the trust fall thing and really trusting him. So i I'm so excited because the main verse today is Deuteronomy 4, 29, 31. And we're just going to go through a couple other quick things first, and then we're going to go through it.

Cycle of Sin and Redemption

00:05:52
fillingyouupwithhope
and there's um six different different words that I think will help us and But Deuteronomy 4 29 through 31 you will seek the Lord your God from there and You will find him if you and and first of all the backstory is before that Moses is talking about how How they're gonna stumble the Israelites are gonna stumble and
00:06:26
fillingyouupwithhope
warnings and teachings about future disobedience. um So its it's talking about how you will, like all these things, the Lord will scatter you among the nations. Only few of you will will survive in the countries where the Lord will drag you. and There you will worship other gods made of wood and stones.
00:06:55
fillingyouupwithhope
and by human hands.
00:07:00
fillingyouupwithhope
ah Gods that cannot see, listen, eat or smell. So it is talking about how they are going to deeply fall short. They're gonna be in the wilderness again, right? And they're going to be scattered. Like we've all been scattered. We're all kind of in exile and God plucks us out What a gift. If you know Jesus, he has plucked you out of exile and giving you life with him. Um, there is nothing greater, but even though this is one of the things I love about this Bible verse. So even though they've, they've sinned, they're so far away, they're worshiping other gods. You will seek the Lord, your God from there. So, so,
00:07:52
fillingyouupwithhope
even though they're gonna go through all these hard things like so many of us do in life, they're gonna choose to seek God. And you see this pattern with the Israelites, right? Of seeing like a miracle or seeing God's might and then complaining and worshiping other gods and then seeking God.

Six Steps to Seek God

00:08:19
fillingyouupwithhope
And then it goes again, right?
00:08:22
fillingyouupwithhope
but he is always, he is always there.
00:08:29
fillingyouupwithhope
So, so let's read this verse. You will seek the Lord your God from there and you will find him if you seek him with all of your heart, with all of your being and your distress, what all these things happen to you in the future, you will return to the Lord your God and you will obey his voice because the Lord your God is a compassionate God. He won't let you go.
00:08:53
fillingyouupwithhope
He won't destroy you and he won't forget the covenant that he swore to your ancestors.
00:09:05
fillingyouupwithhope
So there's so much goodness here and we're just going to go through the things, the six different things for if you are feeling like rejected or Like you can't let go of something, right? um Or if you just want some hope, these are great things. So the first thing is seek. That's the first part um of these but the Bible verses today. You will seek the Lord your God from there. and so So this is the the Bible verse for that.
00:09:52
fillingyouupwithhope
It is Romans 10 13 for everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. We need to call on him. We need to seek him in our, in, in times of joy, in times of happiness, in times of sorrow. We need to seek him and, and call on him.
00:10:23
fillingyouupwithhope
So, and how much hope is there that no matter what, if you've never done that before, you can do it. Just talk to Jesus. And what a gift that we can do that. And it's about our heart. That's the next one. So the first one is seek. The next one is heart, because the next part of the verse is, if you seek Him with all of your heart and all of your being.
00:10:49
fillingyouupwithhope
And Jesus says this in Luke 10, 27. And this is when

Good Samaritan and Deep Trust

00:10:55
fillingyouupwithhope
like a legal expert is like questioning him. He answered, and and sorry, and he had the legal experts like asking him, what is the most important commandment? So Jesus said, he answered, love the Lord your God with all of your heart and with all of your soul.
00:11:15
fillingyouupwithhope
and with all of your strengths and with all of your mind and and love your neighbor as yourself. And then after that is the story of the Good Samaritan, which on this podcast, I've talked about it a bunch about, you know, someone's left robbed and left for dead. Nobody wants to touch him. He's a Samaritan and Jewish people didn't like Samaritans. They didn't get along with each other and um And someone stops and takes care of this person. And like and that's love. and And Jesus is showing us that. And showing us that it's not just about seeking God. It's about seeking Him deeply. Deeply. And like I said, to seek God deeply, we have to have trust and faith.
00:12:15
fillingyouupwithhope
That's how we can let go and and trust Him, right? When we know deeply that He won't let go. So that's what's so to take in to your mind, your your heart, your soul, all of your being, that you have a God who won't let go of you no matter what you've been through, no matter what you've done,
00:12:43
fillingyouupwithhope
you can choose to seek Him.

Prayer in Distress

00:12:46
fillingyouupwithhope
And not superficially, but deeply, but deeply, like deep like I was talking about before, deeply praying for things. So many times it' it's surface level, but there's there's the verses Paul talks about, I struggle i struggle for you in my prayers. um Are we doing that, right?
00:13:13
fillingyouupwithhope
if someone's hurting or in pain, sometimes our prayers are are struggling for them. Our God, please, Yahweh Rapha, that's the God who heals, take away the pain that this person is going through and um and really like connecting to our heart and really caring and being compassionate that we're going to get to.
00:13:40
fillingyouupwithhope
but The next word is distress. So we have seek, we have hurt, now we have distress. Which, you know, why would we have distress? Just because we have God doesn't mean everything is perfect. There will be there will be distress, right? There will be trials and tribulations.
00:14:06
fillingyouupwithhope
and um It says, in your distress, when all these things happen in the future, you will return to the Lord your God. So in your distress, so God is saying that there is going to be those times. And Romans 18, six, ah sorry, not Romans, Psalm, Psalm 18, six says, in my distress, I called upon the Lord.
00:14:35
fillingyouupwithhope
I cried to my God for help. From his temple, he heard my voice skipping all the way down to sixteen to Romans 18, 16. He reached down from on high and took hold of me. He drew me out of deep waters. So that is what to do, isn't it? And any distress that you are facing, we have different things that we naturally do.
00:15:05
fillingyouupwithhope
instead of crying out to God deeply. And of so many of us as humans are flush with some natural things that we do.
00:15:19
fillingyouupwithhope
Like I'm not feeling that well. um and i'm I'm getting better, but my first reaction should be, and it's not um always, like to pray God, like I said, Yahweh Rapha, God who heals, like take take away my illness, heal me deeply so I can do all the things that you want me to do. um Keep me from getting the people around me sick, heal.
00:15:49
fillingyouupwithhope
That's what needs to be our first line of defense. And so often it's not our first line of defense and we don't have the armor of God. And I'm so excited because I don't know, when I was just going through Bible stuff today, the armor of God for some reason, um it just like touched me.

Instagram Series Announcement

00:16:12
fillingyouupwithhope
And I'm gonna start something on Instagram in in October, which is going through the armor of God, like a little teeny piece of it every day on Instagram. So um you can find filling you up with hope on Instagram and every day there'll be some hope because we need to have
00:16:32
fillingyouupwithhope
that armor of God, like when we're going through distress and when we're going through good things, but that needs to be our line of defense. And then he draws us out of deep waters that we're in and of the exile that we're in, just call, call upon him, call upon him. And then after we call upon him, um,
00:16:58
fillingyouupwithhope
When all these things happen to you in the future, you will return to the Lord your God and obey His voice. Return. yeah And this led me to Isaiah 44, 22. I have blotted out your transgressions like a cloud and your sins like mist. Return to me for I have redeemed you.
00:17:26
fillingyouupwithhope
So when we seek him, when we call out to him, like look at look at what happens. He redeems us. He redeems us. So what that what a gift and he's not letting go of us, right? So anytime we can return to him, if you are feeling far away from him,

God's Unwavering Presence

00:17:54
fillingyouupwithhope
seek him and know, know very, very deeply that he hasn't let you go. Cause a lot of times people, when they're going through difficult things, they feel like God isn't there and God isn't listening. And no matter how you feel, cause like we talk about feelings, um, do not last forever. My lights just flicker weird. Um,
00:18:26
fillingyouupwithhope
but God is different and He is always there. He is always there. So if you're feeling that way, remind yourself that that's wrong. That's not true. That He is there with you and He made you. He made you in His image and He loves you. And return to Him. Just pour your heart out to Him.
00:18:54
fillingyouupwithhope
because he's compassionate, that's the next one. A lot of us didn't get the compassion we needed in life, right? And we look for it in all sorts of different ways, right? um That don't work, that act the don't fill the holes inside of us. and But no,
00:19:25
fillingyouupwithhope
taking in that our God is compassionate and loving and comforting, um can that can fill those holes. No matter what trauma, no matter what hard things you've been through, um the fact that our God is caring and that he just like He cares about the Samaritan on the side of the road.
00:19:52
fillingyouupwithhope
That's the type of man that is our God.
00:19:58
fillingyouupwithhope
So, the Bible verse about compassion that I found is 2 Corinthians 1-4. He is the compassionate Father and God of all comfort. He's the one who comforts us in all of our troubles so that we can comfort other people who are in every kind of trouble. Whoa!
00:20:21
fillingyouupwithhope
So he's compassionate, he's loving, right? And he comforts us in our trouble. Like when we see him, like what we're talking about, when we call out to him with all of our being, with all of our heart. And then once we do that, we can help other people, right? And we can ah and we can say, like, cry out to God.
00:20:48
fillingyouupwithhope
Like he really is there, even if you don't feel like he's there. He is there and and he can comfort you. So we can help other people because God has helped us. And that's how amazing God is, right? So the last one is won't let go, which is what this is all about.

Moses' Final Encouragement and Closing

00:21:15
fillingyouupwithhope
um He won't let you go. He won't destroy you.
00:21:18
fillingyouupwithhope
And He won't forget the covenant that He swore to your ancestors. So taking that in, He won't let you go. He won't destroy you. He loves you. Just call out to Him. Call out to Him. And this is Hebrews... Sorry, Hebrews 13.5. I wrote it down, but I didn't put the verse. It's roman its Hebrews 13.5.
00:21:48
fillingyouupwithhope
Be content with what you have. And before that, I talked about don't love money, right? Be content with what you have. After all, he has said, I will never leave you or abandon you. We can be content with what we have when we know deeply that he's never letting go, that he's not going to abandon you.
00:22:17
fillingyouupwithhope
What else could we hope for to have this compassionate father who loves us so much? So what a blessing. Moses is pouring this into the Israelites. They're getting ready to enter the land. And Moses knows he is doesn't get to. He wants to. He he talks about that.
00:22:45
fillingyouupwithhope
um And Deuteronomy 3, he wants to um be entering, but he didn't do what God told him to do. And so it he didn't do exactly what God told him to do. And so he doesn't get to. But he gets to encourage Joshua and the Israelites. And sometimes we don't get to do things, right?
00:23:15
fillingyouupwithhope
But we can encourage, we can always encourage the people around us and remind them that we have an amazing God and He's not going to let you go. So I hope that this just gave you hope this week and check out the going, going through Ephesians six, the armor of God.
00:23:44
fillingyouupwithhope
ah in October and I just pray for you and I'm so thankful for you. I'm thankful that you're here and I will see you soon. Bye.
