So I'm gonna run solo for a little while and everything else. What's going on, Pat? Chattersbox, how you guys all doing tonight? Hopefully you guys have had a great week so far and, uh, excited for the upcoming racing. Uh, especially you, Pat. I know, uh,
00:01:55
Speaker
Your big 45 anniversary ordeal, two-day event coming up out there in Oklahoma. Good luck this weekend. Keep it all on four wheels and have fun.

Meet Hunter Crowley

00:02:04
Speaker
um Tonight, guys, I have a young special guest coming up on the show to talk about his racing career and everything else and what got him involved in the motorsports and stuff.
00:02:16
Speaker
We will bring Hunter up here and get this show rolling. How you doing, Hunter? Thanks for coming on the show, man. I appreciate it. yeah No problem.
00:02:27
Speaker
So if you'd like to let the audience know a little bit about yourself and what got you started into your racing career and everything, and we'll go from there with any questions and just kind of like I said, backstage, we'll kind of hang out and just talk motorsports and everything else. And we'll go from there, buddy. The floor is yours.
00:02:47
Speaker
ah So ah my name is Hunter Crowley and I'm 16 now. I ah graduated high school two years early and got my automotive diploma and my regular diploma.
00:02:59
Speaker
And I've been working at MAP for a couple of years now. And really just my dad used to drag race and all that. And it's just been a big thing. Motorsports been big thing in my family. so Ever since I've been going to Dennis's, I've always wanted to race there in the mud scene.
00:03:19
Speaker
And yeah. now Now you're now you're living that living that dream out from what I've seen on Facebook and stuff, man. Congratulations, by the way. so Thank you.
00:03:32
Speaker
Um, so my buddy Dale actually came up to me one time and asked me if i wanted to race his truck. Um, that was north versus south of 2024 Dennis's. asked to.
00:03:46
Speaker
at denni' he asked me to racist truck and I was sure I was hesitant about it, but said why not?

Hunter's Racing Roots

00:03:53
Speaker
Ever since that race, I've gone into tough trucks and over the winter of 2024, 2025, Mudbuster was born.
00:04:02
Speaker
i wanted a square Jeep just like Dale's and we found one. It was white and had red stripes and I was like, that kind of reminds me of the Ghostbusters theme and I was like, hey, why not? Let's go with Mudbusters.
00:04:15
Speaker
And That name is just kind of stuck. And like I said, I work for Matt, but that's my dad's business. And he was he's like my number one sponsor.
00:04:27
Speaker
So he does a lot. And he helps me work on the truck and all of that. That's good, man. really I like that. Yeah, really just ever since I got into racing. My first race was Springs Fling 2025 with the truck, my own truck.
00:04:49
Speaker
So that was pretty good. um I was a little bit slow starting off, but it always goes faster, like the more you do. Yeah, when you get when you get comfortable behind the wheel or something, especially when when it's your own thing, trying to feel out your you know, what's going to work for you and stuff. I've been there, done that before. And I mean, and especially any new setup or anything like that, you're, you're going go through your ah new car blues, as we call them for the racing scene or just even daily

Early Racing Experiences

00:05:24
Speaker
driving stuff. But for, for being 16, man, that's pretty amazing to graduate high school early and to start your racing career like you have, um especially at
00:05:36
Speaker
legendary, um, motor sports park, like Dennis Anderson's. I mean, that's, that's usually a lot of people's bucket list and here, here you and your, your good friend Jackson are living out that dream at such a young age is it's amazing to see that. So, yeah.
00:05:53
Speaker
Uh, Me, I've actually, I first race I went to a Dennis's when I started racing, i was back in the pits. It was like Friday or Thursday the night before race. And I saw Jackson's truck.
00:06:06
Speaker
ah It was back when he had his S 10 mega. And I was like, that's a pretty interesting building. And as the couple of races I went to like spring fling and the carnival race and all that, I got to learn a little bit more about who Jackson was and all that. And finally, I got to meet him. And ever since then, we became pretty good buddies. He helps me work on my truck and work on his like i said kept maps and maps pretty builds his motors and stuff. So I helped build motors and work on the truck. Yeah, man.
00:06:41
Speaker
That's awesome. Yeah, for you, like I said, for you guys coming up in this motorsports world, actually carrying it on instead of sitting, as much as I hate say it, the generation sitting behind the computer screen or living on their phone all the time, to have now you on the show as well um that's living there. you know You set a goal and you' I know you're not done with your goals, but, I mean, look, two years now racing your own rough truck, your tough truck and everything else. and And you're out there, and I've watched the videos from Dennis Anderson. You're you're racing against some pretty good competition. I mean, there's a lot of big big racers that come there.

Challenges of Tough Truck Events

00:07:22
Speaker
Plus, how often at 16-year-olds you get to see Kingsling and, you know, the Anderson family when they're when't're at all there. And see all these mega trucks too on top of that. I mean, that's that not many kids could get to brag on, hey, I race this track with these guys too, so
00:07:42
Speaker
yeah was going back to what you said about racing a bunch of good people that are tough truck drivers i want to go back to the race i raced against shauna dur she's a pretty good driver herself and um i want to say like i kept up pretty well and that honestly surprised me too and i just ever since that race i feel like i that's the race i got like unscared of the truck where like i was actually able to put it to the floor and bring it to its full ability and that's where now we're finding the weak links of the truck yeah though and i'll tell you what up up here in ohio our at our fairs and stuff and our rough truck events it it's like jeep paradise up here that's pretty much what takes over the field me and my sons actually
00:08:35
Speaker
We actually have a Jeep Cherokee that we're we're racing this year. We're going split seat time and stuff. But, yeah, and it's honestly the way to go. I mean, they hold up for what they are, and if you you know the weak points on them because of the unibody and stuff and strengthen those areas, those things will last you forever. They can last forever.
00:08:57
Speaker
That's it. Yeah, when I first actually started sending the Jeep and like going at it, um we had some problems with the rear axle bottoming out and smashing the frame in and stuff. So we had to, you know, of course get the frames to um like strengtheners.
00:09:16
Speaker
And our buddy, my buddy over at alec at Talent Fab, Alex, he actually ah cuts all that out and he's going to trust my axles when the time is. Yeah, that's, and that's what some of my buddies have on there, especially on their grand Cherokees. They've got them, they've got them trust front to back and and they take, and they brace that, uh, that back rear, rear half of, and that seems to be on all of them though, is that back half, they bought them out hard and they smashed that subframe on them. And yeah, if you don't have those stiffeners and it's set up just enough, I mean, it, I see it even in the modified that, uh,
00:09:54
Speaker
We call them up here in Ohio, which is like your pro Ford trucks and stuff. I've watched guys literally belly drag those things. And I mean, they're set up for this, but they just launched them so hard that I had a buddy mine break his back from bottom and out because of it. He hit so hard and landed and it it it broke two of his ah lower vertebrae.
00:10:17
Speaker
So, but yeah, it's a lot of, it's a lot of fun though. I mean, it's a good time. It's, I mean, You're out there. You're racing you know against the people and everything else.
00:10:32
Speaker
Your future plans, you one day plan on having a mega truck, like something like Jackson or somebody someday?

Aspirations and Interests

00:10:38
Speaker
I do plan on having a mega truck.
00:10:44
Speaker
There is one I have my eye on, but of course, you know those trucks aren't that cheap. No. Yeah, there's one ah up in Massachusetts. Jamie Matthews has it. It's called For Sale. It's the name of the truck.
00:10:58
Speaker
ah It's a two-ton, but it's one I have an eye on right now. Hey, my guest, my co-host is here. Hi, Johnny. Hopefully everything's good, man.
00:11:12
Speaker
Hunter, this is my co-host. Johnny, Johnny, this is Hunter. But yeah, dude, the yeah yeah the mega truck scene, man. I mean, even just not only that it's neat in the mega truck world, how you go from a one ton to basically, I call it the outlaws, you know, the step up from Jackson's class and everything else. Cause he's running, I think he said the one ton class Megas, but yeah, then you get the, then you get the big boys like Brad and all those guys and King slaying and everything else. It's like,
00:11:45
Speaker
Holy cow, these guys are nuts. I got to say, Brad does put his old forward to the test and just see how much he will go. yeah. oh yeah i got He sent me when I was talking to him, I've been talking to Brad now for about the last year. and then when he was over in Japan, he sent me some pictures and stuff of,
00:12:11
Speaker
Yeah, I think I sent a little too hard. We had it standing up, the body ripped off, covered in mud and everything else. And I'm like, i'm like nah, it's still it's still good. he just chuckled about it. But yeah, I mean, everybody that sent, and honestly, because of Brad, I've been very fortunate to have Jackson. I've had you. I've had Phillip Hall Jr. on here. I've had Josh Phillips. you know Everybody in the crew that runs together down there,
00:12:40
Speaker
And having you guys come up here, seeing a different aspect of the rough truck community, tough truck community compared to what I have here in Ohio.
00:12:54
Speaker
I've had a couple of guys from out from Oklahoma up on here recently too. um But ah and we're we're all same passion, everything else. And it's just, we're just in different locations and the tracks are definitely challenging for everybody that where you race at especially there at uh dennis anderson's place that track looks like it's a ah lot of fun it really does yeah that trick is uh pretty much fun i was actually at the delaware race that brad did that uh really staying thing all really and nice that was that was pretty sick to watch um but i would actually love to come to ohio and
00:13:36
Speaker
at some point when I get an opportunity to and race with y'all that'd be, I'd be, like i'd be i I'd be more, I'd be more, be, be awesome to have you, man. Um, yeah, because let alone, not only are local fairs are doing, doing the events. Um, we got a monster trap promoters up here that, uh, during their night time, they have people coming up and,
00:14:01
Speaker
Brad actually told me at the end of, I think it's the first week of August or whatever, he got an invite to bring Berserker up here to run a monster truck show here in Ohio. And I found out it's during one of the fairs, the last day of the fair.
00:14:15
Speaker
So I told him if he's coming, let me know. I'd love to meet up with him and hang out that day and stuff if I can. but Yeah, it'd be awesome for you to come up here to see how our Our tracks are done. Some of our tracks, like I told Brad and a few of the other guys, they don't know how to build a track for some of them for us tough truck guys. It's almost like you're on a motocross track.
00:14:41
Speaker
I mean, you literally got the jumps. You're a peak like a motocross jump. You're literally like this. And then you got some of the fares. They'll bring somebody in, and they're they're fast, quick tracks.
00:14:55
Speaker
And then you got your your back braking tracks, and which is, it sucks. i That's one thing that Dennis says, we're thankful to have people like Ryan Anderson and Gary Sabella who actually drive the trucks hit and, you know, know how to get a jump to where either you want to ho jump high or, a fast track, like a more freestyle track to go high in the air. Right. and that was And that's what it needs to be. That's what it needs to be. Instead of having a fair board members go out and hear, we're just going to pile a bunch of dirt and pack it in. and
00:15:29
Speaker
And they wonder why people are constantly breaking or they're launching straight up and coming down on their backside or their nose diving. But I mean, it is what it is. They got to work with what they got, but Yeah, they we really put our bodies through the test up here in Ohio at some of our fairs racing.
00:15:48
Speaker
it'll It'll beat the crap out of you, which sucks. Oh, yeah. The way you describe those it kind of reminds me. i wasn't there, but I've seen the videos of when Andrea Durr sent her red Jeep to the moon and broke her neck that day at Morgan's Corner.
00:16:08
Speaker
Really? Really? yeah Yeah, I'll be honest with you. If you want to see some of our Ohio tough trucks, um look up Peters Outdoors on YouTube. he covered his I raced with his son and stuff and good buddies with his son.
00:16:23
Speaker
He's got a Pat Winchester's actually old ah modified rough truck out of New York. um google they They added a twist to it and everything else, got their own thing. They call it Moonshine Bandit now.
00:16:36
Speaker
But he films all of our local rough truck events. Check out some of those videos and you'll see ah see how rough some of those tracks are that we race on, even for the mod guys. I mean, they you can tell it it it puts their suspension to the test.
00:16:53
Speaker
Yeah, that's another thing we're trying to I started out my Jeep with a stock suspension like it wasn't lifted or anything. And over the winter this year, we put the lift kit on all that.
00:17:07
Speaker
We actually between spring sling and uh carnival though the mud jam race we put different leaf springs on it because the least from my old leaf springs were as straight as a level you put a bubble in it i i was was gonna say they went yeah they went yeah but yeah oh yeah yeah we put some more least springs in it that we got it from matt connor's uh driver of sweet tooth and uh really Yeah, and we had to actually take some leashes out of it on Friday before jam at the track because it was like rakes like a 60s drag car. was pretty bad. and Oh, come on. you You don't want the squat look when you're racing you're racing your Jeep? No. No, i like get it. I like the way it is. Yeah, I

Performance Modifications

00:18:02
Speaker
get it. I mean, I could see, you know, you know how like the Megas and stuff are set up with those four links and stuff. But yeah, I definitely not in a not in a Cherokee or anything like that. I would definitely not want it sitting, sitting the butt in down low like it I'm with you.
00:18:18
Speaker
I like my back, too. So, yeah, i definitely would take those out. Yeah. So what's one of your, uh, besides racing, like any of the Dennis Anderson deals, what's one of the biggest, uh, tough truck races you look, you're looking forward to this year.
00:18:36
Speaker
Um, I either have to say the North versus South race at Dennis's or the upcoming race at, with premier at Indinuity. Ooh, that'd be, that'd be a good one. Well, in that North versus South, yeah I've watched YouTube videos of that, and that brings out the best of everybody. I mean, I've seen not only in tough trucks, but the mega trucks. You get guys coming from Texas and everything else for for that ordeal, from New York, from Michigan. That's always a big draw down there for that race. But to be able to race the tough truck side of that against some of those people, that's pretty cool, man, to be able to do that. That's that's great.
00:19:19
Speaker
So but that race kind of holds a special place in my heart because that's where like, basically my whole life changed. and That's where I started racing. That's the race that got me into it. so you got you got it running through your v You got it running through your veins, man. There's nothing wrong with that, buddy.
00:19:37
Speaker
um So with your Jeep, what size lift are you actually running in your Cherokee? It's like a four-inch lift, I want to say. Four-inch? Okay. because i know up here we normally ours um i have a while i knew of a guy he tried to run one with a six inch lift and he found out real quick that does not work on racing tough trucks with six inch lift they the rule of thumb with especially with our box cherokees is either two inch to four inch lift depending on the style lift that you use um
00:20:18
Speaker
lot of us guys up here, we run the Rough Country 2 to 4-inch lift usually. I mean, it holds up pretty good. Axles don't like it when the when you don't brace them and everything else. You always bend in axle tubes and everything else when you land.
00:20:34
Speaker
But other that, that's normally what we run lift-wise to you know for ground clearance. But then I see guys out there running the stock stock setups and watch the back has basically fold themselves up like a derby car because there's nothing back there to support it or anything else with those unibodies.
00:20:55
Speaker
Yeah, I know how it feels to run a stock lift. I was like that for my first year of racing. it's It's definitely a change when you have a lift and not a lift on it because uh you can actually the way the truck jumps is totally different though like the suspension actually loads up going into the jump to get you a higher jump and all that it lands kind of softer too know yeah because with stock stuff you're just it's like oh we're on the road now we're gonna go take it off rodent and well this isn't what it's actually meant for so our body our body pays the price more let alone just the the vehicle itself running
00:21:36
Speaker
running on the stock stuff. So it's just one of those. another question, safety wise, do you run a Butler race seat too, like Jackson and all those guys doing your Jeep, or do you got like a suspension seat?
00:21:50
Speaker
So actually I'm running just the plastic seat, right or race seat right now. I'm playing and getting a Butler leap seat too, but um I run a helmet and a neck like a harness thing, like i got that ha device that I got ice from a fellow sponsor, Jason and Whitney Haber.
00:22:13
Speaker
Nice. That's awesome, man. And that's the thing. Um, people don't realize, and it's like me and when i had Jackson, mean, his dad, we're talking and course, Brad and a few of my other guests, even in drag racing, you know, any motor sports don't overlook the safety stuff. I mean, at a you,
00:22:35
Speaker
Anything can happen at any time and you don't want it to, but if there's the safety stuff's there, let it do its job. Spend that little extra. And especially for you younger guys, definitely if you can, you're doing the right thing. You got, you got the start, you got the Hans and all that stuff to keep you from getting whipped around and all that stuff real bad.
00:22:57
Speaker
But yeah, definitely. ah Hopefully you got plenty of padding in those plastic gray seats. I tried those one time and, I hurt for about three weeks using those ones, but I was running stock suspension when i when I first learned my lesson of using the plastic seats about 25 years ago. So it was like no more of those again. Yeah.
00:23:20
Speaker
I actually ran my first race in Dale's Jeep with just a hoodie around the my neck, no safety, anything. And I ran actually, I think it was spring sling maybe with just a hoodie as well. But after that, I got a donut. And then this year, I had a sponsor get me launch device.
00:23:40
Speaker
Heck, yeah. I mean, and and that's good. It's good. um So is your Jeep just a stock V6 4 liter? Pretty much. ah Yeah.
00:23:51
Speaker
It's a straight six, 4.0. four point nine Good old inline six. Those things, you can't kill them. Yeah.
00:24:00
Speaker
What style, when if when it comes time for your Megatruck, if you were to build one, we're going to say this. What body style and kind of motor would you, besides, I know you'd use your dad's motor, but what body style would you run on your Megatruck?
00:24:17
Speaker
So, like, the body-wise appearance, I'd probably do, like, a Willys Jeep or, like, a sort of a Wrangler kind of look, I guess. Okay. Just, like, no rear or race rear fenders.
00:24:30
Speaker
Nice. hey
00:24:34
Speaker
And for the motor, I'd probably do a Chevy big block. There you go. Big old blower sitting on top of it too. Yeah. Oh, yeah. yeah I can see that now. Oh, boy.
00:24:47
Speaker
Mom and dad, hold on You heard it there. He wants a big block Chevy with a blower on it. Look out. Hell yeah. So um with that being...
00:25:00
Speaker
With that being said, so the next race is coming up, what'd you say, in ah about a week or so that you plan on attending or?
00:25:11
Speaker
know. Sometime in July. I can't remember right now. it's tall the premier race is July 18th. That's right. yeah I see it on Facebook. I forgot about that. Yeah, it's two days before my birthday. So on device I actually got a, me and my sons actually got a race that Saturday. It's the first, uh,
00:25:30
Speaker
if you enter our points here is that we did here in Ohio with it and stuff, but it's technically our first summer race, the kickoff fair season and stuff. So we plan on going to race that. So everybody will be racing that week. And it looks like. Oh, yeah. yeah So.
00:25:50
Speaker
Johnny, you got any questions you want ask on her since you're here now? Yeah. Sorry. I kind of got here late.
00:26:00
Speaker
uh yeah man uh what are your goals for the future uh just i guess work my way up into a mega and just make more friends and get more into the mud scene i guess hell yeah man well you already got it sounds like you got a great start to it okay he's sir he's good He's got his foot in. He's got both feet in good with the with the crowd he's got around. He just wants to extend it now.
00:26:33
Speaker
Make it out further more. He's got himself established pretty damn good with with what he's got himself surrounded with. Hey, keep on doing what you're doing.
00:26:44
Speaker
I'm waiting for the day to see him and Jackson line up and mega trucks side by side. That'll awesome to see. i'll be awesome to see no yeah So what's it so what was it like? It'd a tough race, I feel like. Oh, you guys would end up leaving it out for bragging rights. Leave it all hang out there.
00:27:03
Speaker
Fixing both your trucks when it's done because there wouldn't be be nothing left of You guys would be like, haha, I beat you. No, we beat each other. Hell yeah, man. Yeah, I feel like we both wouldn't let up at all and and see who will send their truck the hardest, I guess.
00:27:21
Speaker
Apparently, yeah. Yeah, you guys would. I mean, just from talking with him and now talking with you, i could see it. You two lined up. We'd be like waving each other at the starting line, the stage, and then shake hands afterwards.
00:27:36
Speaker
Trucks will be all in pieces, everything else, and be like, that was fun. Can we do it again? Fuck yeah. But no. So what was what was it like Helping Jackson and everything, working on a mega truck.

Working on Mega Trucks

00:27:52
Speaker
I mean, the what's the difference, in your opinion, working on a mega compared to, say, working on ah regular tough truck like your Jeep or working on a Chevy or a Ford pickup or Dodge?
00:28:08
Speaker
What's the difference, in your opinion, and the simplicity of working on those? So... with his style mega i don't know how it is in other megas i haven't seen the engine beta a lot of megas but with his style it's a lot more room to work with and like to pull the motor example yeah it's way less than you know gotta disconnect the water pump and all that engine mounts and all that it's way less it's like way more simple to do all that and
00:28:39
Speaker
One change I definitely noticed besides all the room is the height difference. So like on some trucks, or standard road trucks, you're either low enough, maybe you get to some stuff on top of the motor, but either way you're going to need a stand. do But with Jackson's, you can, it's definitely higher up. So you have to like stand on the four wing or the axle or stuff like that to get inside the engine bay. But with the way his roll cage is mounted, you can get just some stuff through the roll cage on the side of the block. Oh, nice.
00:29:14
Speaker
k Nice. Yeah, because I was, the reason I asked that is because I was looking, I seen Brad post a video that working on Berserker, and where the way his is set up, it's like, man, that looks like it would be a nightmare to crawl up inside and everything else But of course, his is more of the outlaw style, so it's got more rope more bars, more you know, a lot more horsepower, but they made it look easy because they've been doing it so long. But I just figured since you've got a chance to actually work on Omega, I figured I'd ask and see what the way his is, how easy it would be to work on it and stuff. So.
00:29:54
Speaker
it's definitely a change compared to, um, a standard car to Omega. Oh, I can, I can imagine. Um,
00:30:05
Speaker
So what's your mom and dad think of you you ah when you first started racing? Did mom have a heart attack when you first snapped your first race? so I know she's there.
00:30:18
Speaker
and So ah when I was racing Dale's truck, ah
00:30:26
Speaker
she's standing here looking at me. ah When I was racing Dale's truck, my second round in it, I actually went over the tabletop at Dennis's and nosedived pretty hard. I think that gave her a little, you know, oh shoot, what am I getting myself into? But now since I've been racing for like two years and I i have a good roll cage in my truck,
00:30:49
Speaker
she knows it's a little bit more safe with it. And my dad's actually the one who helps build it and stuff and all that. And he's like my crew chief. So he knows like, I'm going to get in like strapped in tight and all that. So.
00:31:04
Speaker
That's good. e Yeah. That's, that's one of the things it's like, I, cause I asked Jackson's mom, I said, so did you have a mini heart attack when he first, first got in, in the,
00:31:16
Speaker
And she said the mega truck didn't bother her as much. She said it was when he first started racing his Jeep, when he started racing the tough truck. She goes, I was more scared for him in that than I am in him being in his mega.
00:31:28
Speaker
And I mean, it's it's awesome to see you guys, like I said, coming up in the through the ranks, carrying on the you know the motorsports side of everything.
00:31:40
Speaker
I just lost my train of thought of another question I was going to ask you. Sorry, man. I just had a brain fart. Again. Oh,
00:31:54
Speaker
man.
00:32:01
Speaker
On that, with that, so your future plans, working your way to Megatruck,
00:32:09
Speaker
Would you ever consider doing so something like eventually going into like the monster truck world or just stopping at the mega truck world and when you get older and everything else here in the near future? Would you consider doing something like that? but Eventually racing the monster truck?
00:32:27
Speaker
So, um, Actually, i don't particularly want to put my focus to going to a monster truck. I mean, if I had an opportunity to do it like Jordan Fisher does, have a have a mega and a monster truck and race them both, that would be more of my type, but I'm kind of leaning more to just racing megas.
00:32:50
Speaker
Heck yeah. If I had an opportunity to race a monster probably would a couple times. Okay. Yeah, I just didn't know if future plans go on. You know, you're already basically at the ground level with the tough trucks and then working your way to the Megas. I didn't know if you'd eventually I'm sure if somebody came up to you and said, hey, you want to race this monster truck this weekend, let's get you some practice. up I know you can't lie. You'd jump at the opportunity in a heartbeat because I know I would. That's a long life, long dream. But, okay, let me get up, climb up in here and tell me what I need to do. Let's go. Tell me what I'm going to do.
00:33:28
Speaker
but Other than that, Johnny, you got any other questions? Because I pretty much kind of you've answered everything I've had to ask, and your future looks great and everything else the way it is. And I wish you the best of luck and stuff, man. I know it's a little short, about a 35-minute show, but I appreciate you guys taking the time coming up here tonight, and sharing your story. Yeah.
