Family's Journey into Drag Racing

00:02:49
Speaker
here. and yeah So um if you'd like to to let the audience know, um tell us a little bit about yourself and your family's why you guys are called We Broke Garage, my man. Well, we've I myself been in the drag racing scene for a lot of years. My dad got me into it and I was a young kid.
00:03:10
Speaker
And the love for cars started when when I was young. And my wife and I got together about 12 years ago. And and she she took a liking to the to the car scene and and going fast. So it kind of snowballed from there. We started her drag racing career out with a 95 convertible Mustang.
00:03:32
Speaker
um About three years ago, my son started getting involved, liking to use his hands, wrenching on things. So we we were gracious enough to but get a loaner junior um from a gentleman, Mike Smith in Johnstown, who had a couple of juniors laying around and kind of got Hunter's feet wet in ah in the junior drag racing scene and ended up upgrading him a ah vehicle and He's done really good with it over the last three years. Amber's still continuing to race.
00:04:07
Speaker
um We have recently just sold Hunter's Jr. to start working on his ProStreet S10 project. Yeah, I've been checking that out, seeing that on your TikTok and your guys' YouTube and stuff and Facebook page, man. That's going to be a pretty sick ride once it's done.
00:04:22
Speaker
yeah is. It's nice to see. It's going to be a fun deal. We've kind of decided that... If we can't drive them on the street, we don't want them. So we've done the whole full-fledged drag racing cars in the past. and uh it just been there way there with besides you we worked at donley when dad had the malibu and the vega man i remember those days yeah absolutely and we just you know you put so much money and time and effort in them cars to to let them sit in a box all week and hope that it's not going to rain on the weekend and it's just not worth it to us anymore we like to be able to go out and enjoy our hot rods throughout the week or whenever we want to do it so that's kind of one of the reasons why we've gotten into the drag and drive things
00:05:00
Speaker
Yeah, speaking of that, how was Sick Week when you guys went down there to Florida, man?

Sick Week Experience in Florida

00:05:05
Speaker
i know you guys ran it I know you guys ran in some issues and stuff, but the experience. Tell the people the experience of Sick Week, man.
00:05:13
Speaker
There's really, even though we had issues, which we had a lot of them, there's really no way to describe how much fun we had on that trip. Yeah.
00:05:25
Speaker
the camaraderie of the Dragon Drive participants down there are just second to none. I mean, everybody's willing to to throw a hand in and help you or give you a parts so you know, whatever it is, even just general advice. and and And to be honest with you, the support that we got from social media just cheering us all on was was just unmatched to anything that we've ever done before.
00:05:50
Speaker
We did have some issues. You know, my my main goal one of my main goals was to get on 1320 video because, you know, yes being a guy everybody wants to be on 1320 video.
00:06:02
Speaker
That's, that's the, that's the main stable of the YouTube, YouTube, man. If you can get on 1320, but I mean, you know, you, feel you feel like you accomplished something. i mean that's awesome. Absolutely. Absolutely. And, you know, everything went great. The first couple of days, we made the trip from Valdosta down to Bradenton with no issues.
00:06:23
Speaker
Um, We were able to go and see some friends of ours down in Punta Gordo where we lived. Nice. And then we went up to Bradenton the next day. Jack Minor from Jack's Wax and my dad came over and enjoyed the day with us over there.
00:06:38
Speaker
um And we left from there and got to the first checkpoint where 1320 video was video and some some trailer burnouts. And I thought maybe I needed to do that.
00:06:51
Speaker
it kind of all snowballed from there. We learned some stuff. like Let's not get it wrong. I mean, we learned from our mistakes with me never messing with the LS stuff before in my life. um There were some some tricks of the trade that I had no idea of, which ended up hurting us, but we didn't give up.
00:07:12
Speaker
Later found out after two days of working on the truck that the reluctor wheel had spun on the crankshaft, so it just wasn't able to stay in time. It just kept better. However, on day five, the last day, we were about 90 miles from the lastos last track.
00:07:30
Speaker
We had driven at about 365 miles, misfiring pretty badly. Went through a couple of transmission lines that blew on us on the side of the freeway. Just some different things that, you know, we just kept trying to band-aid just so we could make it to the last track on the last day. And we had about 90 miles. She said she had enough, huh?
00:07:50
Speaker
it It ended up swallowing a valve and locking a motor back. We did the best we could on it, and we've got it. It's actually sitting right up. Yeah, right behind you. We'll put it on the floor right here for it. So, actually, this motor that you can see in, that's the new bullet that's going down into it. Is it going to be a 6.0, or you going back with a 5.3 putting down in it? Okay.
00:08:12
Speaker
Amber's truck, the gold truck over here over my left shoulder is going to get the 5.3. And then my truck, the red truck, is going to get the 6.0 that's sitting right next to the 5.3. Hell yeah, man. That's awesome. just yep Quick question. um So with with the whole family having the bug, man, I mean, is Hunter going to I remember Hunter when he was born and everything else and just in diapers. It's crazy to see he's driving and doing all this stuff.
00:08:38
Speaker
Is he going to do the drag and drive with you guys with the ProStreet S10 as well? Absolutely. Is that his goal too? Hell yeah. That's awesome. Yep. He's no, he's still 13. It doesn't look like it. Yeah.
00:08:52
Speaker
He's a big kid. He's he's about 6'1", 225. He's a big kid, which is another one of the reasons why we kind of got out of the out of the junior. he it was It's a big junior. It was a 20-inch cage or 21-inch cage.
00:09:05
Speaker
Yeah, but he's tall, man, like you are. I mean, that's yeah he gets it from you and your dad. The height-wise, it's just insane. But, yeah, it's crazy here in a couple years just to think. I remember he was just learning to walk and crawl and walking through the shop and everything. And, yeah.
00:09:21
Speaker
now Now, just around the corner, he'll be driving.
00:09:29
Speaker
I have a little technical difficulty with his internet service, so just bear with us, guys. But, yeah, yeah why he's this is going on. Yeah, me, like I said earlier, me and Corey worked at Domley together here in Mount Vernon.
00:09:42
Speaker
um became really good buddies and everything else. And it's been pretty much the rest has been history from there. we just We stay in contact and everything else, ran into each other still and hung out at the tracks and everything.
00:09:56
Speaker
Yeah, and, I mean, Corey's a good dude. Family's awesome. Kids are amazing. But, yeah, the Hunter, his son, doesn't fall too far from the tree.
00:10:08
Speaker
sir
00:10:13
Speaker
Internet's not cooperating, is it? Get people to quit blowing my phone up. Ah, gotcha. That's all good, man. Get a phone call or a text that logs me out for some reason. Right.
00:10:24
Speaker
Yeah, I was just telling everybody about Hunter not being... The apple not falling too far from the tree with the motorsports bug and everything else. I mean, that's just been... It's like it runs in his blood, and that's awesome to see.

Future of Family Racing

00:10:37
Speaker
It absolutely does. But, yeah, we will... um We'll continue to get, keep going on his truck. I think we're pretty much going to put about the same combo in his truck as what we have in Amber's Blazer.
00:10:48
Speaker
Nice. um It'll just be a 5.3 LS, setup. And, uh,
00:10:53
Speaker
and Like I said, we just want to drive them. So, um, sick, uh, sick, the mag, uh, Tom Bailey, who puts on sick week and all those, uh, they've actually opened up a couple of teen racing classes for some of the dragon drives. So, um, I know they've got one in, uh, in sick Michigan miles.
00:11:13
Speaker
And they've got one at six smokies this year, which six smokies were going to, however, Hunter is going to be full fledged into school at that point in time. So he's not going to be able to make that trip with us, but, um,
00:11:25
Speaker
we've We've got a few of them planned for this year still to just kind of get our feet wet in it. We are heading up to Michigan for Drop the Hammer at the end of May.
00:11:37
Speaker
It's a small three-day event put on by a guy by name of Carl Stenzel. um He's also got a pretty wicked blazer. They call it Pro Blazer. It's a turbocharged LS motor.
00:11:51
Speaker
oh Nice. So we're going to head up to that one. My dad's actually going to be driving the 64 in the cruise part of it. Amber's going to be driving her truck in the in the cruise part of it. and And hopefully if I get my truck together, I'll be racing in it. so There you go. Heck yeah, man. That's awesome.
00:12:07
Speaker
Looking forward to that one. I'm loving what Bailey's doing with this Dragon Drive, man. I mean, it just started out as just down in Florida and everything else for Sick Week, and it's it's amazing. I mean, we had the power tour and stuff. You know, we've seen it where it's come through national trails multiple times and everything.
00:12:25
Speaker
But, yeah, I mean, this is amazing how much this has grown, what, last 10 years, if that? I mean, five or 10 years? It's real. i mean, it's been around for a long time. A lot of it was out west.
00:12:38
Speaker
more as far as you know your Rocky Mountain Race Week and and right stuff like that. But they're definitely they're definitely getting a lot more attention now.

Community Spirit in Drag and Drive

00:12:50
Speaker
And like I said, it's just the experience of doing it. And and yes, it's it's expensive to do it. I'm not going to lie. It's expensive because you know you're taking a week off work and hotels and fuel. And if you break down and the other there's just a lot of stuff that goes into it. However...
00:13:08
Speaker
Uh, you know, when, when Amber and I sat and put pen to paper on things, the amount of money that we were spending every weekend and with three of us going to race bracket racing for three days, um, you know, it's a drop in a hat compared to bracket racing two or three weekends out of the month. So, um, and, and you get to enjoy the hot rods a lot more. i mean, there's, there's nothing like, uh, cruising down 75 in Florida.
00:13:32
Speaker
driving you something that you built and you know people are rolling up next to you and giving you the thumbs ups and and honking that's just a really cool feeling to have so just being able to take them out and enjoy them is is what it's all about so did you get to see the the snot rocket make its record pass down there too um we we did not or whatever when it made its record pass i was sitting broke down on the side of 75 waiting for the truck and trailer Damn, that sucks. I was hoping you were going to get to see, it I mean, still just to even say you were at these tracks with him, you know what I mean? That's yeah's and a feat in itself, let alone just enjoying what you guys accomplished for doing Sick Week. I mean.
00:14:13
Speaker
Absolutely. Absolutely. And yeah, we missed Allison's pass too in the Dodge Dakota, but we were there. literally right after she made that pass. So that was six and somebody we know locally do what she did. That was freaking amazing. Very, very happy for Tommy and Allison and and the whole gen two garage crew. I mean, uh, those guys worked really hard. Tommy worked really hard on trying to get that truck together, before they went down there. And and of course, uh, you know, um, Allison's parents jumping in on it and driving in that dart. And that was, that was not an easy task for them whatsoever.
00:14:50
Speaker
But it's just like that. I mean, you know, they those guys all had their own issues, you know, that were We're coming up on their vehicles, but still they stopped to try to help us on the side of the road. So, yeah, I've seen it. And I mean, that just shows you the character, especially Jeff, Allison and Tommy. I mean, i love Tommy them to death. I still remember you do too.
00:15:11
Speaker
When Tommy was just starting out in juniors, I mean, him and Billy both look at what that family has done. But yeah, with Tommy and Allison, they've been amazing. I mean, just to do what they've done on their own. mean,
00:15:25
Speaker
Right, right. Yeah, it's pretty awesome getting to watch them, ah you know, grow into to what they have become, not only, you know, on their channel, but as as actual people. I mean, they're just they're just great people to be around, and and we always have a lot of fun ah hanging out with them whenever we get the chance to. i mean they're definitely busy people, but But, you know, Tommy and Allison are always always two of them that will stop what they're doing and and and talk your ear off. So that's always that's always been a good time with them. But, you know, and aside from that, I mean, we met a great group of people um also from Alabama that stopped and literally spent probably four or five hours with us at at a gas station trying to get things figured out. And he did not hesitate to, you know, grab his laptop out and start.
00:16:17
Speaker
punching keys and at least tried to get us to, you know, to our our friend John's house, which is where we were actually going to Cocoa, Florida. We had planned on staying the night with them and John had opened up his shop for us. That way we could get it up on a lift and and just kind of go over it, you know, service it. Then we started having the problems.
00:16:38
Speaker
um ah John and Nikki Terescott really helped us out tremendously on that one. We stayed a couple of days at their house. They made sure that we were fed and and John was running us into town and getting parts. And we just have so many people to to thank for that trip. and And like I said, everybody just came together to to try to help us. And that's one thing about the dragon drive community is it's, you're not necessarily racing against each other. Everybody's number one common goal is to finish the week.
00:17:05
Speaker
So they're all there to help you just try to try to finish the week. and i mean just Just seeing the pictures, the videos, I mean, even with your guys' issues, the fucking smiles, you and Amber had throughout all everything going on.
00:17:17
Speaker
That was worth it. Myself just following along with you guys, like living it out through you guys. yeah i mean, it's fricking amazing. Yeah. And like you said, the camaraderie. ye We have it in drag racing somewhat with our groups, but I've noticed, like you said, in drag and drive, there's nobody left alone.
00:17:38
Speaker
period. It doesn't matter who the hell you are. Even if you're a big name like LaSella, Bailey, whatever, if they can help, they're going to help. yeah but yeah I think it's freaking amazing for that. i mean it makes That's why it's so popular. That's 100% accurate. Absolutely 100% accurate. making it to where you know they're they're making it to where You know, you don't have to do these big ones. You know, you don't have to um spend a ton of money to take eight or nine days to drive across the country, just like the one that we're going to up in Michigan at the end of May. It's three days.
00:18:10
Speaker
it's ah It's a Friday, Saturday, Sunday. If you want to go test on Thursday, you can. So, um you know, it's a low entry fee. I think it's like 300 bucks for the racing side of it. Or if you just want to come and cruise, then, you You know, I think it's $125 to join in and you do everything that everybody else does except for make hits down the track.
00:18:34
Speaker
And Jason's on here giving you shit, says it will be better when they are when they're honking and not being on the side of the road, laugh out loud. ah Yeah. Give me just a second here, Chris.
00:18:45
Speaker
Yep. You're good, man.
00:18:55
Speaker
I've got somebody that needs help with a vehicle another state away that is blowing my phone up.
00:19:05
Speaker
Sometimes knowing how to turn wrenches can be a blessing or a curse. It just depends on what it is. Yeah, all the above. All the above. But, yeah, actually, jason Jason and Kelly are going to join us on Six Mokies in October. Really? That's awesome, man. Hell yeah.
00:19:25
Speaker
Jason and Kelly is going to get down with us. And we've got a couple other friends that have discussed possibly going down. I know ah Jason and Kelly are already signed up. And I do believe there's one other one that might already be signed up too. But but yeah, we've got some other friends that's going to be heading down with us. And it's to be their first time doing Dragon and Drive. So we're looking forward to that too.
00:19:48
Speaker
That's awesome. Giant community getting together, friends and stuff, sharing the same passion. That's going to be sick. Yeah, absolutely. Absolutely. It's a good time.
00:20:00
Speaker
So, out of your the most memorable out of your sick week experience... Was it Amber's first pass going down the track? that so we didn't we We didn't actually get the race at Sick Week. We were in Sick Ward.
00:20:16
Speaker
We chose to do that for the simple fact that it was our first drag and drive. okay Her truck literally had about 100 miles on it before we loaded it up on the trailer and took down there. gotcha It had about half of a mile just in town up to the weigh station of pulling a trailer. like So to kind of make it easier on us, which...
00:20:40
Speaker
Don't get me wrong. I tried to get into the drag, the like the drag, the sick week part of it. Right. However, these events sell out so fast. I logged in at nine Oh four and they were sold out already. Well, it's crazy. As soon as he posted, it's like, if you're not like right on the inner button, man, it yeah for for that side, but no, I mean just the experience. I mean, like I said, seeing your guys as with the issues you had towards the end, but the smiles, the laughters through the videos you showed,
00:21:08
Speaker
I mean, that is f freaking amazing that you don't normally see and a normal drag racing event unless you're with the group of people you're there with. This year, it was everybody that you videoed.
00:21:19
Speaker
yeah I mean, it was freaking amazing to see it. i mean i would I would say my most memorable part of it, um once we were able because we had never drove our car on the freeway, ever.

Building and Racing on a Budget

00:21:31
Speaker
let alone pulling a trailer that I built out of a trailer. So I think the most memorable part for for us was about halfway from South Georgia to Leadfoot City, which was where first checkpoint was at.
00:21:53
Speaker
okay It finally kind of sunk in that her and I built what was on the road and for us to be cruising at 70, 75 mile an hour down 75 and something that we built, um, and that we were actually doing it, you know, uh, that was an awesome feeling. Uh, that, that was, that was pretty cool. And, and, uh,
00:22:18
Speaker
You know, of course that was before we started having all the issues, but right yeah out of out of everything there, just being able to to look over as she was driving and thoroughly see how much she was enjoying driving that truck, that that probably made it.
00:22:33
Speaker
That probably made it for me. Hell yeah. I mean, that is, and it's amazing when, like you said, when you can accomplish something you did, you guys did together or even by yourself, you know, as anybody that wants to do this, if you put forth the effort, I mean, it's not easy.
00:22:48
Speaker
I'll vouch for it because I've turned inches on cars for a long time too. Right. um but But at the same time, I mean, once it's done, it's like all that pain, that blood, sweat, tears, money, and it finally goes, like you said, down the road. And then when it hits, it's like,
00:23:04
Speaker
holy shit, I just did this in my own garage. And it's like, with help of friends and everything else, it's like, this is amazing. Yeah. and it And it really is. And, and, you know, with our, with our YouTube channel that we just started, um,
00:23:19
Speaker
which we try to emphasize the fact that you don't have to put a tremendous amount of money into these things to go and make memories and enjoy them. And that's that's our number one goal is is sharing you know our experiences. We don't have a ton of money to put into this stuff, but right you know we try to show that on a budget, you can make this stuff work and make it work very well. And you know the the one thing that cost us her motor,
00:23:46
Speaker
was paying somebody 20 bucks to put four TIG weld, spot welds on a crankshaft that was it. That motor would have been fine. We were getting 21 miles a gallon pulling that trailer down 75 at 70 mile an hour.
00:23:59
Speaker
That's awesome. That is freaking amazing. Yeah, it would have been fun. But, you know, had I known that you're supposed to spot weld those things, then we would have done that when we built our motor. But I had no idea.
00:24:09
Speaker
ah Like you said, butre we're learning we're we're learning. I mean, that's the thing. it's its Yeah, with us, we're old school. We're into the old school carbureted stuff dabbling around with this fuel injection. It's a whole new like new ball game.
00:24:26
Speaker
But man, the stuff you can do with just the stock motors. That's like my cousin. We put 5-3 down in ah Colorado. Come to find out, they came in 2009 and 2010 factory with them, but it's for his rough truck.
00:24:41
Speaker
But just messing with the wiring and stuff and playing with the computer was kind of a whole new ball game with it. But now that we're learning, I mean, I would rather, i would honestly rather go with an LS, just like I want to eventually in my 97 Mustang.
00:24:57
Speaker
Everybody can hate me for it, but I want to get rid of that 4.6 and put an LS in it, if I can, or an old 5.0. I mean, I'd rather have a fuel-injected 5 liter, but... Well, we've still got Amber's original Mustang sitting out back, the 95, and we've, you know, it's a convertible, and and we talked... Yeah, i remember that car.
00:25:16
Speaker
The... They haven't came out with the exact routes yet. However, we think that um six Smokies, it has a drive day.
00:25:28
Speaker
And we're thinking that the drive day is going to be Tale the Dragon. o which would be really cool to do in her blazer. oh yeah My blazer, probably not so much.
00:25:40
Speaker
However, if we did like a road course style out of her 95, low profile wheels, hug it to the ground, maybe a five speed, maybe a supercharged or turbocharged LS motor in it. i With it being convertible, that'd be an awesome cruise to make.
00:25:59
Speaker
yeah. But, um, but yeah, we just, uh, I don't know. We need to get some other projects done. Like I said, I need to get a motor put in her truck. That way she can start driving it again.
00:26:11
Speaker
i need to get this red truck done before the end of May hunters. I'd like to have done by the end of fall. Um, and then we can be there. You guys will get there, man. You'll get there. yep Yeah.
00:26:23
Speaker
We're just like everybody else. You know, we got, we got to watch our budget and, uh, you figure out how to how to get things together. We just just got a rack for the shop, which is going to be a life-changing event for us. so Oh, come on. You like laying on the ground just like the rest of us. I'm too old for that stuff. Trust me. I understand.
00:26:43
Speaker
We're getting up there. it It hurts to get off the ground. Yeah. yeah yeah Well, I broke my back in 2019, so that doesn't make it any better. No. So, but yeah, now that, now we've got the lift, actually, Jason's going to come over on Saturday and, uh, help get this thing bolted to the ground and and get the cables all hooked up and adjusted. And we got the hard part already done. We got it off the trailer and in the shop. So.
00:27:05
Speaker
Well, like they say, you want to make friends quick, have a lift and ah a truck and trailer. That's the fastest way you find people that yeah like, where'd you come from? yeah oh we heard you got a lift. I heard you got a truck and trailer.
00:27:18
Speaker
Can I come over? No. we yeah only above But yeah, it'll ah it'll definitely be a life changer for us and hopefully help us help us get some of this stuff back together.
00:27:32
Speaker
little bit quicker but uh i know hunter gets to come over this weekend and i promised him that i wouldn't work on a truck unless he was here so we're going to some body panels on his truck i got uh new rocker panels cab corners and a floor pan to get put in it so heck yeah that's gonna be some awesome content too to see on on your week broke we broke garage youtube and you know tick tock and everything else man that'll be that'll be awesome especially seeing him Yeah.
00:27:58
Speaker
So. Yep. I'm going to, I've turned him loose with the welder a couple of times before, but we'll see how he does on putting body panels in. Hey, we all got to learn somewhere, bud. I mean, that's where.
00:28:08
Speaker
but like We got grinders if we need them. and It works. But yeah. um So other than that, speaking, you were brought up your dad. How's he been doing?
00:28:19
Speaker
Dad's doing good. Probably. yeah I don't know if he's watching right now or not. He's. If a mom were down in Florida, they they got on my house down in Punta Gorda down about October through beginning of April.
00:28:35
Speaker
So they put community down there and they were having St. Patrick's Day party tonight. So he texted me earlier today if this is going to be able to go back and watch this. If he couldn't speak out. and I said, yeah, I'm sure sure it'll be on either on Facebook or YouTube. one You can go back over and watch it. It'll be on there.
00:28:54
Speaker
um got the 64 up at Steve Miners and he he likes to um keep that for us every winter he keeps it inside and heated so we'll be going up to get I think going to be putting ah AC
00:29:17
Speaker
enjoys the cruise up in Michigan enough to want to go ahead and January. Yeah, i miss I miss the days of hanging out at the track with your dad and everything else, especially with the Malibu, man.
00:29:31
Speaker
That was like the cat's ass getting to work with you guys, hanging out and shit. We always had a good time at Pacemakers, but I would i would probably venture to probably about over with, unfortunately. Yeah, it's it's it kind of pisses me off, but I mean, it is what it is. I just wish somebody that actually could have the money and the funds to put into that track for what it is would get it.
00:29:59
Speaker
Yeah. we'll see We'll see what happens in the future here. But I mean, it's just a shame now that I got to drive. If I want to go race my car or anything other than the streets with a bunch of just horsing around, but they actually go have fun, turn the kids loose or something. Then I got to drive the trails. I got to drive the Norwalk or 42, you know, and it sucks for 42. Yeah.
00:30:20
Speaker
and That's, you know, that's, again, another reason we kind of shied away from from the track racing. With pacemakers, I guess but we don't know what's going on with pacemakers. It's never really been announced, but assuming that not going to open, which is 15 minutes down the road from us, we're either for IHRE racing, which we really like, we're Hillcare, Dragway 42, or Quaker City, and all those are over two hours away from so I know, and it sucks.
00:30:52
Speaker
Or the whole debacle of ah of trails supposedly flipping over to IHRA, which I don't know that that's ever been set in stone yet, but Yeah, that's a big tiff right now I've seen on Facebook and everything else with all those seven tracks and trails being part of it. It's like, what the hell is actually going on? Somebody come out and literally set the facts straight instead of giving everybody hopes. you know People were getting excited there when it first was announced, and then I've seen where Maryland International made the comment, no, we never sold out. Yep, and Gallup, and everyone's one of them.
00:31:31
Speaker
but law whatever they call that. but um yeah But yeah, I mean, it's it's it's kind of an up in the kind of fun um and up in the air kind of You know, more power to IHRA if they are doing it. Like I said, we had a lot of fun racing with IHRA. I think they're more for the sportsman racer than NHRA is.

Changes in Track Management

00:31:51
Speaker
um And that goes from their payouts from the World Nationals. i mean Oh, yeah, I've seen that. The Worlds are like 25K to win top. okay You're not getting that many. We're close to it. um But, you know...
00:32:06
Speaker
It's neither here nor there. end up going in town somewhere, it'll probably be trails or a 42. That way we're a quarter mile and something. um We went to Quaker for the big bracket finals last year, and that's a hall up there.
00:32:21
Speaker
Was it? Probably no good place to get there. I mean, drive up there. ah Your phone's cutting in and out, Bubba, your computer, one of the two, is cutting your voice out.
00:32:32
Speaker
My phone. You hear me better? There There we go. It's a little better. It happens. Jason just said something about it. I was trying to use my earpiece, but it wasn't working on here for some reason.
00:32:47
Speaker
But, yeah, i mean I mean, it would be nice to see. But, I mean, Jason and them down at Trails, is they've done some phenomenal things since they've been running that track down there. They absolutely have.
00:32:57
Speaker
I'm not taking anything away from Jay or JJ. they've They've done a phenomenal job at National Trails. um There's still a lot of stuff that needs done at Trails to make it a better facility.
00:33:10
Speaker
and you know nothing And like I said, I'm not taking anything away from them, but I do think that if somebody with deeper pockets comes in and and takes over that place, then there's a lot of repairs that can be made to make that back to what it used to be in the days of the Spring Master.
00:33:25
Speaker
Oh, man, that place was amazing during the spring nationals down in the day. i remember that. I mean, it was amazing. But, yeah, it's gonna that's the sad part is, is and that's what ah I hate about a lot of people too. You got your keyboard warriors about, oh, that you need to do this and this to the track. Well, give me the money and I'll do what you said to do because it ain't no cakewalk. I mean, just from learning out here helping Drew a couple years ago running the track, dude, I would not want that responsibility year in and year out, to be honest with you. I mean, I'm mad kudos to a lot of track owners, dude.
00:34:01
Speaker
and people that run lot of work it's a lot of work and it's a lot of money and uh yeah everybody everybody has uh their ideas of what the track should be like but when it comes to uh to help out or work at the track nobody's nobody's around you know so um it is what it is i it's it's been something that we went around around around with for seven years now and ah it's time for us to move on. We we love bracket racing still. And, uh, you know, one of the classes that I'm actually trying to get into is, is more of a bracket racing site on the, on the dragon and drive things. It's called bullseye class. And ah sounds nice essentially at the beginning of the week, they give you your, your two numbers and, um you know, Monday you could be in the 63 and Tuesday you could be and Wednesday you can be and,
00:34:55
Speaker
Whatever your car runs, you have to try to make it run as close to that dial in as possible without going under it. Oh, that'd be sick, man. That's awesome they're adding that. yeah So i got I got a question ask you.

Rise of Accessible Racing Classes

00:35:06
Speaker
With Jimmy Dale and them, what do you think of this little gangster's heads-up class that's taken off, man? What do you think of that? I like the 530 class. I like that 530 class. i think I think Tom and Mike have really hit the nail on the head at making a class that...
00:35:23
Speaker
um is feasible for a lot of these no prep guys to to run. um Actually, I don't know, 45 minutes or so ago, I just seen Matt Rice had posted and said that the 530 or 850 index class is gonna take over racing this year.
00:35:40
Speaker
And and i I think he's right because, you know, there's there's so many big hitters out there um in the no prep world right now that's going deep into the fours. But they've got a lot of money, um you know, and and the average Joe just can't keep up with those kind of guys.
00:35:58
Speaker
And that's what I think this class is. is It's like what Bill and them had there for a while, the average Joe class out at Pacemakers during the cash days. Yeah, that's that's what this class reminds me of.
00:36:09
Speaker
And man, from the YouTube videos and the lives I've seen of this shit, dude, it's amazing. I wish eventually maybe one day I'll have something, you know, could be like that. But still, even the index classes like you were talking.
00:36:22
Speaker
yeah They're going to be huge now. Yeah, that 530 index class is really good. and And a lot of the places are throwing, you know, 510 grand on top of entries, which makes it a really good payday for these guys that, yeah, maybe they can go run a 5-0 or a 5-team on a no-prep surface.
00:36:42
Speaker
ah But they're not in in ah in any bigger races that that have any substantial payout. they're not going to be competitive, unfortunately. I mean, it's just how it is. Not when you've got guys running 450s, 460s on a no prep surface. So um this this gives these guys a chance to, ah you know, turn it down a little bit because they're going to be on a sticky surface or somewhat sticky surface and and run 530s and be able to compete for big money. And and and i think I think Tom and Mike have have definitely definitely hit that class on on ah on the head there. And and they're going to,
00:37:17
Speaker
I think they just got picked up by the new street outlaws or whatever. They're going to running a couple days. Yeah. And actually, I found out that class is actually going to be ran at trails this year.
00:37:28
Speaker
Oh, are they running at trails? Yes. Hopefully, mike i hopefully the him and Mike and Jim can make it out for it. to actually be there because I'd be sick, man. But yeah, I am so impressed with this class that, I mean, it it is, it reminds me of, like I said, the average Joe's, you know, your budget friendly heads up guys, because you got people honestly like Ryan Mitchell,
00:37:51
Speaker
uh, Kai Kelly, all these guys, even with their small tire cars that they've built, you're like, you said, they're deep fours on a no prep surface. I mean, how are you going to compete with the big, big budget racers? I mean, yeah but this class, this class kind of weeds that shit out a little bit.
00:38:08
Speaker
Yep. Yep. I think what they ended having down at, um, down at Bradenton for the World Series of Pro Mod, they ended up throwing that little gangster class in. And I think they had 60 or 70 cars in it. was neat too It was neat seeing and Tommy behind the wheel of Billy's Nova in that class.
00:38:27
Speaker
I think you're going to end up seeing a lot more of that this year. That was f freaking awesome. Now that now that Billy's Camaro is getting pretty close to being finished. I would probably say that you're probably going to see Tommy in the Nova a bit more. Uh, I know Billy had posted the other day that he was looking for some 26 inch tires, uh, on the Falcon and 26 class, or, um, I know you said that, uh, it fits in street classes.
00:38:55
Speaker
Oh yeah. That'd be awesome. So yeah, i I like to, I like to see them guys do good. I, um, You know, and another one that's kind of dropping back that little gangster's class in the 26 class Nick Bluniak.
00:39:10
Speaker
Yep. Oh, yeah. He's starting to drop back to those also. Not that he's not going to run any small tire, but he really likes that 530 index class. So, matter of fact, I've just seen where Scott Taylor was talking about throwing a motor in one of his cars and running the 530 index class too. So, that'd be pretty interesting.
00:39:32
Speaker
Yep. Yeah, that'd be kind of cool to see that, man. I mean, he was making a joke about putting in Jane Doe. I mean, that'd be be interesting to see that car, especially we know the history of that car.
00:39:46
Speaker
Right, right, right. But yeah, it's ah it's ah it's a fun class to watch. You know, a lot of the true no preppers are throwing shade at it because it's an index class, whatever, but You know, it it all boils down to what's going to bring more cars to the facility, what's going to put more butts in the stands to be able to watch these shows.
00:40:05
Speaker
And, you know, if it's a class like that, then so be It it is what it is, you know. um I know bill Bill Hoskinson's had his hand and in with John Sears and a couple other people down there at the Edgewater doing the plates and races and stuff like that. and They got 13-0 index class.
00:40:24
Speaker
Really? is going to bring in a ton of cars. It's going to put people in the stands. It's going to put people through the gates paying the entry fees. You know, that's that's what it's all about. At the end of the day, it's a business. It's not a show-off competition. It's a business for these tracks. So they got to be able to do what they can to to bring people into the gate and and make money off of it. That's what's going to keep these tracks a alive.
00:40:46
Speaker
Right. So, yeah, we unfortunately, we're not gonna be able to make the one at the end of April, but there is another one that... we're going to try to make down. um I think it's in September, I believe is what it was. I think the other one is in September. Yeah. Yeah. So that one will actually be in between the Michigan miles and six smokies, but with it only being a one day event, I guess.
00:41:15
Speaker
Right. But yeah. I'll tell you what'd be neat. My dream still is the, I need to make it down to Katie dragway one time just to go see happy and limpy put on their cash days stuff down there, man.
00:41:29
Speaker
one watching that If you're into the no prep scene, there's two tracks that you absolutely have to go to Brown County. We've went to Warren the woods the last three years.
00:41:46
Speaker
I could only imagine being there live to see that. I mean, just watching it live on YouTube, but being there in person to see that, dude, that has to be awesome. it's it's ah It's an unreal experience. And yeah, this year we're going to miss it because we're going up at Drop the Hammer up in Michigan. It it falls on the same weekend. But but yeah, it's it's a pretty neat experience to to go to, even if you only do it one time. And KD is the same week way. I mean, if if you head down to KD, the pictures and the videos that you see of that track absolutely doesn't know justice when you get there because that
00:42:22
Speaker
I can't remember the exact number, but I want to say it's close to like 860 foot of um climb on that hill after the finish line. Really?
00:42:34
Speaker
Yeah, it's a lot. Holy cow. i remember kyle I remember Kyle from where he did the opening intro from the cash days that they covered down there.
00:42:45
Speaker
He goes, I'll never walk this hill again. That was the first thing out of his mouth. He goes, I can't believe how steep this really is. And he was up up top filming and everything else. I still owe Kyle one.
00:42:59
Speaker
He, uh, you know what he's famous for, right? Oh yeah. Yep. Literally having a conversation with him at Bradenton and he stuck on them sons bitches in my pocket. I had no idea how I walked away from him.
00:43:13
Speaker
Well, that's like I seen on Facebook. Some of the people that they unloaded from the trailer like two or three weeks later found it either under their on their dash or inside their door. But it wouldn't be Kyle if it if he didn't do that shit in the process, too. Morgan morgan Evans and her fiance, Jason. Morgan was driving her GMC Jimmy, first gen GMC Jimmy.
00:43:36
Speaker
um And then Jason was driving the Dodge truck that they put together for that roadkill nights with the hurricane cat motor in it. yeah He just found one on that Dodge Ram for the past week, I think.
00:43:51
Speaker
Leave it to Kyle. Leave it to Kyle. It's been two months ago and he just found that one. so He's sneaky about that too. he does And the sad thing is is he does it right in front of you. You can be standing right by him and he does that.
00:44:03
Speaker
yeah but yeah But yeah, I mean, there's going to be a lot of good stuff coming up this race season. I know you said for the Michigan Sick Mile and stuff and the Smokies, I mean, and like War in the Woods we were talking and KD and stuff.
00:44:20
Speaker
yeah And then, of course, Of course, Bill down at Edgewater with his plates and 28s and all that show and shine. um yeah ah We got Columbus coming up at Trails next month. That's right. first That kicks off the season at Trails. Yeah. the yeah No prep race down there.
00:44:35
Speaker
That's an awesome race to go and watch. They they do very well. that The Cardullus brothers do ah a very good job at that race over there, too. So we plan on going over to watch that one. I'm going to try to make it if I can, depending on how things are. So yeah, yeah take the kids over and check it out just to get out. So any other, but anything else on your bucket list when you guys get everything where

Future Racing Projects

00:44:58
Speaker
you need it to be? I mean, down the road, like once all three are done, maybe take a couple of weeks off from working on projects.
00:45:06
Speaker
Just enjoy yourself. Yeah, no, we've got, we've got a lot of stuff. Um, the channel is really going to start picking up here pretty soon. However, I, I am back to work now. So I started, I started, uh, the channel what in the middle of the winter when I'm not working, but, uh, but we'll still have a lot of content to put out there, putting Ambrose Motor together and getting it going again.
00:45:29
Speaker
um might be thinking about doing something a little bit off the wall on my pro street truck. Um, we had talked about doing twins on it at one point in time.
00:45:41
Speaker
um Jason Carter and I have actually been going back and forth here a little bit. There's a company called SWS Motorsports that's been making um adapter kits to go from a Holley low-rise LS intake to any junkyard supercharger you can find.
00:45:58
Speaker
Really? um So, I've been doing a little bit of research on those and probably kind of kind of be leaning more towards like the off of Cobra.
00:46:10
Speaker
off of ah cobra so Okay. um You know, throwing six to eight pounds of boost to the six liter comes along those lines. Just something different. and There's a lot of guys out there doing so on the the Dodge Supercharger kits now.
00:46:27
Speaker
Right. But I'd like to do something a little bit off the wall. So we might look into doing on that. um You're right up there with the off-the-wall stuff, the G2K that he's done with that Hellcat S10. Dude, that thing is oh, man, that was awesome seeing the fire up of that the other day when he posted that. That was awesome.
00:46:47
Speaker
Yeah, and and I had looked at doing, you know, this Hellcat superchargers, but yeah by the time you do that, you could build a pretty nice twin turbo setup on one. and Oh, yeah.
00:46:59
Speaker
But, I mean, just for that, like you said, the one off the wall, I mean, for him to do that, I mean, that's freaking... Yeah. You don't see that, so... Yeah, that's that's definitely a pretty cool situation.
00:47:09
Speaker
Yeah. would say... Yours will be sick. Once we get Amber's Blazer put together, we'll go ahead and start getting mine tackled.
00:47:21
Speaker
It's going to need a rear-end gear change in it. What are you running in it right now? It's just 308 nine-inch forward open. And with the on it,
00:47:34
Speaker
at seventy mile an hour it was only running like fifteen hundred rbm so it Makes it nice for cruising, but it wouldn't get out of its own way if you had a tow truck pulling it. so um So we're going to change that up a little bit, probably go with like a 350 gear.
00:47:49
Speaker
ah I'm going to run a 4L80 in it. Herbie Raymond up Johnstown. I'm probably going to end up having him build me a 4L80. He's the one that built the 4L60 in Amber's truck.
00:48:00
Speaker
Okay. So... Possibly a supercharged six liter with a 480E instead of 350 gears going in a pro street truck. And then it should be about ready to roll.
00:48:11
Speaker
um Hunter's truck, like I said, we're just going to do a budget 5.3. I'll probably do a cheap sloppy stage two cam. Or if the cam is still good in Ambrose motor, i might have just end up reusing it.
00:48:23
Speaker
um Just to get that thing driving. So I do still have to possibly by the end of may try to get a trailer built for my truck uh my dragon drive trailer built for my truck um plus we're gonna have some more content we're putting an ac system in the old 64 oh nice getting it ready to go for a cruise and we've got we've got plenty of stuff and if we run out of projects i got two more sitting me behind the shop so there you go we've we've got plenty going on here and and should be uh
00:48:58
Speaker
should be able to make some, some pretty good content.

Content Creation for We Broke Garage

00:49:01
Speaker
I'm kind of, kind of getting conflicted on the, on what people want to see on the YouTube channel, to be completely honest with you. Um, you know, there's times that I'll sit down and spend hours upon hours upon hours on editing videos and I'm getting 200, 300 views and I told Hunter one weekend when he was here, I'm like, Hey, we need to put a ah video up soon. Cause it's been like two weeks.
00:49:24
Speaker
So we drug this old junkie, old junkie lawnmower out right there. That was my sister. Yeah. That was a cool video to see. I liked that. The most views we've ever gotten by by 200%. It's like 620 some views on it.
00:49:37
Speaker
Cause it, cause it's just an off the wall thing, man. I mean, YouTube, bit like you were saying, I've noticed that when I had my channel, was I still do my channel, but mostly mine's when I go to events and stuff, I put do that stuff, but yeah it's it's, it can be streaky. I mean, it's just hit and miss, but yeah, when you do, it's just crazy. The off the wall stuff, like you guys did with the lawnmower, it's just nuts how the views go. But yet when you're,
00:50:03
Speaker
say working on your trucks or whatever, you might get 200 views, like you said. yeah And then you do that and you're like, oh, look, I got almost 1500 views and just for playing around with a junk lawnmower. I mean, right it just depends, people.
00:50:17
Speaker
I probably spent 15 minutes editing that video and throwing it up there. And then, you know, ah last week I posted one. had went and looked at Darren Hansel truck.
00:50:28
Speaker
Yeah, I seen that video of that. I remember that thing. Hunter's getting boost, huh? but Uncle Jason be paying his speeding tickets. I was going to say, ja Jason's going to flip the bill for that. That's what he's saying. I tell you what, ja Jason's done a lot of help with us. Jason, um I'll give a ah little shout out to him for that. In in the video, I'm sure you saw ah Jason over here helping us put the back half kit in. yeah ah stand What a lot of people don't realize is that back half kit came from Jason, including the rear tires.
00:50:59
Speaker
um oh jason's your right hand man he's been a good buddy of yours for quite a quiet while man i remember i remember meeting him at donley that was a deal that him and him and hunter worked out and uh yeah that's that was that was pretty awesome deal but uh but yeah that um that video of uh going and looking at darren's truck it's up around 600 views already So it's just it's just weird it's weird. It's weird how the algorithm hits and and what people watch, what people won't watch. But, you know, we're just trying at it. We ain't never going to become millionaires at doing this stuff. Right.
00:51:34
Speaker
It's something fun that we all do. Yeah. The biggest reason that, you know, that we try to do it is we just want people to know that you can do this stuff on a budget. And I mean, that's kind of our our slogan yeah for for We Broke Garage. Yeah.
00:51:50
Speaker
It's where we're either we're broke or the cars are, you know, one of the two. so Yeah, I mean, i've seen videos I've seen channels that they consider themselves budget channels. I mean, to be honest with you, they are...
00:52:03
Speaker
Yeah, their budget channels to them if they can spend $5,000 here. But people don't realize they look in the background. They've got the big money sponsors still helping them with that $5,000 so-called budget build. That's what people don't pay attention to.
00:52:20
Speaker
You guys are legit budget building everything. I mean, you take take what little extra money you got and put in your projects. And I appreciate it. Just not just because we're friends and stuff, but it gives teenagers and kids that want to have interest in it.
00:52:37
Speaker
Shows them what can be done. I mean, that's just the badass part. Absolutely. Absolutely. And there's deals out there. You know, not everything has to be bought brand new. You know, just marketplace and and talk to friends and don't be don't be scared to pull into somebody's driveway and ask them, hey, is that truck for sale?
00:52:54
Speaker
Is that car for sale? you know even if you just need parts and that's that's kind of one of the things that we're running across right now which yeah we know we can go to the junkyard and get some parts for hunter's truck but i'm looking for a score on a standard cab s10 first gen just to take some parts off of i'd rather do that than going to a junkyard and getting each individual part right because then you never know what other kind of spares you could throw up in the rafters for a for a project later on so yeah um So, yeah, I mean, it's just it's it's one of the things where we try to do it on the budget at the best that we can.
00:53:28
Speaker
And it's all about making memories with your family and your loved ones. That's just all. That's what it all boils down to, whether whether they're you know friends or your wife or your kids or whatever.
00:53:38
Speaker
Just go out and make memories because life's freaking short. Yes, sir. I agree with that, Bob. I agree with that. Um, before you jump off here, my man, you want to shout out your channels where everybody can follow you and stuff.

Acknowledgments and Social Media
