Speaker: Who knows what can happen? anything Literally anything can happen. any Anytime, any day. That's true. Yeah, that is a true statement. Anything can happen at any point in time. You could, tomorrow, you could you could be walking to the kitchen and trip and land on Mars.
Speaker: Yeah. Yeah, you could anything could happen. you could You could go to take a bite of a hamburger And you look down and it's former Vice President Bob Dole's arm.
Speaker: The burger. Well, I don't eat meat, so. Well, yeah, you're taking you're but you're biting into a veggie burger. You look down and you know and you you go to the store. You buy a veggie burger.
Speaker: Okay. You go home. You cook the veggie burger. You put it between two buns.
Speaker: I was pausing in case you wanted to make a bun's. I mean, I don't, this is all very unrealistic to me. I wouldn't cook it. i would just go, i would just go, I would just go get the impossible whopper and be done with it. Okay. so you get in your car, you drive to Burger King, you buy you order impossible whopper. They give you impossible whopper. You unwrap You unwrap it. You look at it and you're like, yep, it's an impossible whopper. You go to bite down it,
Speaker: You're like, huh, this is squishier than I would think. And you open your eyes and Bob Dole is standing there with his arm in your mouth. How did I not notice that? That's that's what I'm saying.
Speaker: Anything can happen. And you know what you know what would he be even more surprising? What? Bob Dole died five years ago. i was going to say, is he dead? i think he's dead. Yeah, that's why it's more surprising. And that's why we just that's why the earth is magical. And we just got to keep our eyes open to all the possibilities. Have you seen have you seen Obsession?
Speaker: Yes. That reminds me of the cat. The cat sandwich. Ew! Ah! Why want to remind me of cat sandwich? the heck? Why that gross you out by you talk about Bob Dole's arm in a burger? If the scene in Obsession was that he ate something and the note said, hey, I really enjoyed being president.
Speaker: being our vice president back in 1992 what's the verdict and it is it good and yeah what's the verdict is yeah and then he went home and he was like wait where's the where's the vice president bob dole i keep in my house and that vice president was gone right i don't think i would be as disturbed as what actually watch that i i would watch that movie Spoiler alert for obsession, guess. Yeah, sorry. Spoiler alert. Listen, listen, it's way more important. The the themes and message of obsession is more important than the plot points. Somebody could tell you the entire plot of obsession. It's totally about a crazy ex-girlfriend. That's totally what it's about. Oh, my God. I saw the picture yeah just earlier today. Somebody was just posting like, because she got cast in the new X-Men movie as Rogue.
Speaker: Oh, yeah, yeah. twenty twenty I just heard that. Yeah. And so somebody posted a picture of her streaming and then because she was ah a streamer, I guess. And then her in Obsession and then i guess like the announcement of her podcast.
Speaker: becoming rogue like look look you can achieve your dreams even though that girl's like what fucking 22 shut up shut up you fucking people of blue sky this is not an inspiring tale she's fucking she's half my goddamn age okay oh this is getting angry well she's people in blue sky can be so dippy Dippy. Dippy is ah is the right word. It is the right word. they're not that like it's ah It's not a morally bankrupt place like Twitter. It's not an attention-seeking, commercially overrun place like Threads. It is just a bunch of dippy people.
Speaker: Yeah. That's true. I'm rarely, rarely on it. I'm on Instagram a lot, but I don't, that's because like I'm an artist. Oh, really?
Speaker: I don't know if you knew. Have you ever done art? I've never seen it. Actually, I've been been putting up my paintings. They're pretty great. So they posted a picture ah of her smiling at the party or no, her frowning at the party. I mean, yeah And fucking just like, it gives you chills. just Yeah, it's really good. Like, how did she make her face do the things it does in that movie?
Speaker: Holy shit. Wish I could do that. you You wish you could just look scary it all times. Yeah. Do I not frighten you? No. I don't? No, I don't know if you frighten anyone. oh man. Is that the goal?
Speaker: Yes. Oh, and then you're very scary. Thank you. My point is anything can happen at any time to anyone, anywhere.
Speaker: Hey, everybody, welcome back, I hope. Good to see you again. Hey, it's been a while since I've seen you. Not you, the listener. It's been a while since we've seen you.
Speaker: Good to see you again. Hi, I'm Matt Allcamp. i'm i'm I'm one of your hosts here. And with me, my very good friend. She's another host, too. She's not just my friend. I don't just have a random friend on the podcast. She's the other host. It's Pushing Up Roses. Oh my god, hi. Oh my god, can you believe we're here? No.
Speaker: We're having interesting weeks, so I can't believe anything right now. I believe, you know what, I believe in everything. I believe that anything can happen at any, I'm stopping. I believe ah the future are our children.
Speaker: i watched Interstellar. Did you like it? I'd never seen it before. Yeah, I liked it. um it's it's But it is kind of cheesy. Have you ever seen it? i have it. I haven't seen it.
Speaker: It's like, I don't know. There's a lot of cool ideas in it, and I can see why people loved it so much, but it is also really... it's like I think this is the case with a lot of Christopher Nolan stuff, where like he's a great director, and he picks really good ideas from... Does he write it? Does he write his own movies? i don't think so. I think he just wrote... i think he's just the director so but I'm not sure.
Speaker: I think he picks really good premises and ideas. And he has a lot of creative ideas. Like his idea of how to bring Batman into the new, well, the the previous decade um was like really good.
Speaker: but I think he's just like maybe a little death to the like the shit in his scripts that is so fucking corny. then Yeah, no, he did write a lot of the, oh my God, he wrote almost everything. So yeah, he just he's just he just leans on cliches a little a little bit and that is a particular like bugaboo of mine, I guess. And it's like, so I can understand this is a good movie and I can really i really enjoy the premise, but I can't help but go like, oh, every time there's just like a really corny line. Yeah, for sure.
Speaker: Is it that, it's sci-fi, right? Yes. Yeah. Is it? I mean, I have a very big disdain for so much sci-fi, to be honest with you. i think it is. I think it drags. I think it's slow. i don't like it. So that's might be why I've not seen it because I just don't really. It's not big on it.
Speaker: There's some again, there's some really interesting premises. The best I think the best part of the movie is the beginning of the movie when you like learn what's happened to the world.
Speaker: yeah like when Like when the premise of the movie introduces itself and you slowly begin to like learn it, I think is when the movie is as at at its strongest.
Speaker: um And then it just becomes kind of like a space... A traveling through space movie with some cool like so some cool stuff, but it is just kind of that sci-fi-y sci-fi shit for a while.
Speaker: And the there's a lot of personal drama in it, but the personal drama is not necessarily cheesy in concept, but cheesily written. Mm-hmm.
Speaker: cheesily written Like a lot of just like people dramatically saying shit no one would ever say in the real world. Yeah. Yeah. So I have mixed feelings about the movie Interstellar. Why did I start talking about that?
Speaker: Oh, because I was just. i I think you just kind of went into the podcast. They're like, I'm just going to say what I'm enjoying right now, I guess. Oh yeah, I guess so. I didn't mean to. i meant, I think I meant it. I think I meant it just as an extension of saying corny shit about like anything can happen in the way. Like if you believe in yourself, like, but yeah.
Speaker: I even, you know, I'm looking at these. i haven't seen a lot of Nolan movies. I've seen Memento. Seen Memento, yep. Okay. I saw Batman Begins. Yeah, I saw that.
Speaker: Okay. I saw The Dark Knight. Saw The Dark Knight, yep. I did not see The Dark Knight Rises, the one with Bane. I didn't either. I only saw the first. Yeah. um i did not. I saw Anastasia. Oh, he did ah he did Insomnia. Yeah.
Speaker: I did not see Insomnia. I like that movie a lot. I did not see Inception. i have Yeah, I haven't either. I did not see The Prestige. i did not see Oppenheimer, but I did see The Odyssey, and I liked it.
Speaker: The Prestige. oh It's a very upsetting movie. Don't spoil it. I won't. Cause like that movie has been spoiled by the internet, but when I saw it, I had not like run into any of that. So I got to see it with like fresh eyes. And yeah here's what I want to tell you.
Speaker: That movie has been spoiled for me ah so many times, but everybody who talks about it in a spoilery way are make, it's usually through jokes and,
Speaker: And what they're saying is so, like, wild. i Yeah. That I'm like, hold on. how could that What could that possibly have to do with the story of the... Like, there's the they say things that just don't sound like they could fit into a story. Right. not like nobody I've never heard had anyone say, like, this is what happens in The Prestige. I've heard people say a thing and then as a joke be like, it's like The Prestige.
Speaker: Yeah. And then I'm like, okay, I guess that would have spoiled it, but I have no idea what the fuck in that weird, like absurd joke you just meant could possibly be in the movie, of the prestige. So while I you know watch it and report back, all I know is that the end of the movie, the prestige is something very is a twist that is very, very weird.
Speaker: Yeah. It's it it got me for sure. I'm just like, what? I don't even understand. OK. I still don't get it. You should watch it. Please watch it in return back to us.
Speaker: um Yeah. Did you see and Inception or Oppenheimer? No. Yeah. But I actually really like Insomnia, though, if i'm if that's the right movie.
Speaker: Yes. It has Robin Williams in it. Yeah, it does. It has Al Pacino, Robin Williams, Hilary Swank. Yeah, it's a thriller. It's good. I like it. Christopher Nolan.
Speaker: Huh.
Speaker: Is there anything else you'd like to say about Christopher Nolan or just in general? No, that's the end of the podcast. Great. Thank you guys so much Thank you guys for listening to save your game, a podcast where we talk, where we vaguely talk about a director for roughly five minutes and then we turn the podcast off.
Speaker: yeah Um, what have you been enjoying lately? Um, Beyond the the game that we're going to talk about, i actually watched, ah we talked a little bit about Obsession. i actually watched that very recently. I didn't watch it when it came out. I watched it like in the last week or so. Oh, I watched it in the last two weeks. i Oh, interesting. that's That's interesting that we both kind of got into it at the same time then. um
Speaker: I don't think, I mean, I liked it. i like I like a horror film. I'm a spooky girly. I don't think I liked it as much as other people liked it. I'm just like getting this feeling that people love this movie. And I'm like, ah it's fine. No, it was fine. I liked it.
Speaker: I think people love it. People love the elevated horror thing, right? Sure. And I know that can be a little... i know the term elevated horror can be frustrating for horror fans to hear sometimes. Sure. um But...
Speaker: I do think it's like, i don't know I think it's its own genre. I understand what's problematic about the phrase elevated horror, but I, but it does describe a genre I like. And if I'm just going to grab a hundred movies that are called horror, I'm going to dislike 80 of them.
Speaker: Sure. Cause you're not big horror person. Correct. I don't dislike horror. Well, Yeah, I mean, again, I don't dislike horror as a concept, but there are certain... I don't like gore.
Speaker: I don't like slasher stuff. sure And not because it scares or grosses me out. It's just like I don't understand what's entertaining about it. I think you're scared. The torture porn thing, like, i just don't... It just doesn't affect... i don't like torture porn, and I love horror.
Speaker: Well, I mean... So do you you don't like like the Saw movies? and No. No, i hate the saw I hate the Saw movies. But I'm a big horror person. um Yeah, so like there's all sorts of genres of horror that I'm just not into. But like, yeah quote, elev anything that's been called elevated horror, i have liked.
Speaker: Yeah. Yeah, and I think, I mean, there are different genres of horror. If there's comedy horror, I think we can also say that there's more artful or elevated horror because there is. Right.
Speaker: um And folk horror I like a lot. Yeah, folk horror is great. You like Wicker Man? I never saw a Wicker Man, but, you know, I like ah the Ari Aster films and I like the yeah the Vich Oh, yeah, i like that.
Speaker: i like that, too. I like the Ari Aster films. I like and I like Hereditary a lot. And um what's his name? You know, a what's his dicks films? What's his what's his whole dick called?
Speaker: i I do not know. going to have to give me a hint here. He was in The Whitest Kids You Know, and his name is Zach Craigor. I like his movies. and i know i not not sure if weapons counts as folk horror, but I think barbarian probably does.
Speaker: what Yeah, weapons, I think it's just kind of horror. i don't Yeah, I don't think it's folk horror. And to draw an even thicker circle around what I like and don't like in horror, barbarian, i fucking...
Speaker: loved the first half of that movie o when there's a lot of smart ideas circulating around and there's a lot of tension and there's a lot of like real down to earth stuff and i didn't dislike the second half of the movie but well yeah when they were just kind of like running away from a monster who was kind of gross yeah I it was kind of I I was way, if the whole movie had been that, yeah right? i like I would have been like, i don't think I like this. So that like just to draw a circle around it.
Speaker: Okay, so this was about your what movies the movie you've been watching. Yeah. I mean, I think Obsession... what was... Oh, you know what? i did... It's not a new movie, but ah some of my friends are doing a comedy improv show based on the work of Christopher Guest, who does all the mockumentary stuff, like Spinal Tap.
Speaker: um And... My friends were just shocked that I had not seen many given I love Catherine O'Hara so much and I love all the like the Second City people so much. Yeah. So they showed me ah Waiting for Guffman.
Speaker: Have you seen that film? I've never seen Waiting for Guffman. It had funny moments. I've never seen any Christopher Guest movies actually. ah You haven't seen like Best in Show or Mighty Wind? No.
Speaker: Okay. Yeah, I've only seen a couple. i had not seen Waiting for Guffin, which is, I guess, just kind of a classic Christopher Guest mockumentary. You know what i think is? i I like these comedians a lot and they say funny things, but I don't like the mockumentary format very much. Okay.
Speaker: Yeah, I don't know. What you like about it? It can get into cringe humor and I don't like cringe humor either. Oh, okay. Like the, like, I'm just, this is, I don't dislike The Office or anything. um But like, well, characters would do like kind of weird cringy thing. i Like, I just don't, I don't know. I don't like like it.
Speaker: The first season The Office, I think, is very cringe humor based. And I think the other seasons are sort of like a mainstream version of cringe horror. Or horror. Cringe horror. Cringe comedy. Did I say cringe horror twice? That's so funny. Cringe horror would be so funny.
Speaker: I don't even know. Man, okay, this this requires more thought. I can't just riff on cringe horror. I think this requires some deep thought about what a cringe horror would be.
Speaker: I mean, is it is it is it, you know, Evil Dead or something? Is that cringe? have mean, it kind of is. The first Evil Dead kind of is. No, because, okay, cringe comedy is about...
Speaker: because Okay, because cringe comedy is about what is so uncomfortable it makes you laugh. Right, yeah, right. So cringe horror would have to be what is so uncomfortable it makes you, and it can't just be makes you like uncomfortable and anxious. Yeah. It has to be what's so uncomfortable it makes you scared, hiding under your cover. Because like you can say anything cringey is a little scary. Yeah.
Speaker: Yeah. But I'm saying it's got to be horrifying scared, right? Yeah. I don't know what it would be. I don't know what I would choose for that, for such a thing.
Speaker: Probably like... If something's so embarrassing, you die. Yeah. I was like, ah some of the Hellraiser movies are kind of corny, but also they're shocking.
Speaker: wonder if that's the kind of shock you're going for. and again, so it's like, those are cringey and horror. Yeah, yeah. But they're not... it's the The horror doesn't come from the cringe. Yeah.
Speaker: Right. You're not like, right ah, that costume's bad. I'm scared. Oh, that dialogue was so bad I got scared. man I'm going to make, this is my new genre that I'll be working on. It's cringe horror. got to try. this is It's going to be so hard to find something that is cringey.
Speaker: But. actually in induces like terror. And I know, see, and here's the thing. I'm i'm like i'm like hedging so hard because I know we're going to get in the fucking discord after this. And I love our discord. And I love the people in our discord. They just did a ah a contest where they drew Hanson Swanson and they had me judge it. And they all did very well. And Hanson Swanson um is very mad at me for this.
Speaker: Oh, why? he doesn't He doesn't like to be represented. He doesn't like to be perceived. but he doesn't He doesn't like representations of him. and um yeah Well, he took away my toilet.
Speaker: I see. What? Who took away your toilet? Hanson Swanson. He took your toilet? As punishment. And he says, if I'm really good, I can have it back.
Speaker: Where have you been going to the bathroom? I haven't. What? It hurts so bad. Oh my God. We have to go to the hospital. so so So, okay. I love our discord. I love the people in our discord, but I just know we're going to get into the discord and people are going be like, I know what's cringe horror.
Speaker: And they're going to be talking about things that are so uncomfortable they make you they give you anxiety that's not what I'm talking about oh my god they have to be so ah they have to be so cringy that they make you you have to draw a distinction between this scared as if you saw a ghost scared scared as if your heart like as if as if you're like I could die and oh my god right because that's what so that's what horror does that's what horror is it makes you go like it makes you want to die no no no no no no it makes you have the feeling you would have if you were about to die got it right like a roller coaster
Speaker: I think we have different perspectives on horror. what Okay. what what would you How would you describe the fear you feel in ah when you're watching a horror when watching horror? Adrenaline?
Speaker: Yeah. And adrenaline is your body telling you, you could die right now. We got to get you out of this. Yeah. That's what I'm saying. Okay. But you agree with me, though, that there's a difference between that and the fear that you would feel when you're very ah feeling very awkward.
Speaker: yeah Yeah. Yeah, absolutely. And I just know somebody's going to be like, no, actually, actually, I get so socially uncomfortable yeah that cringe is horror to me. And I'm like, and I'm just trying to get ahead of that. No, no it's not.
Speaker: It's different. ah It's different. And if you're not with us, then you're against us. Okay. All right. We need to we need to move along. Matt, have you been enjoying anything?
Speaker: so i i have. I've been dipping...
Speaker: i've been dipping my little toesies back into Fields of Mysteria now that the 1.0 is out. Yeah. So like there's a full version out, right?
Speaker: Yes. Yeah. And i I do want to say, I think maybe, okay, well, why don't we give some background? Cause it's been a long time since we've like,
Speaker: It's been a long time since we had our episode where we talked an episode where we like described fields of mystery and everything yeah like that. So why don't we reset? Okay. And then I want to talk about like how they did their early access rollout.
Speaker: Yeah. So. Fields of Mysteria is one of these farming sim, meeting all your neighbors, making friends with everybody game. yeah Farming life sim. Yeah, yeah. Like, I heard somebody call it, um, there's ah there's a podcast I like, uh,
Speaker: i I was actually being, you were just talking about it because I just introduced it to you. It's called Into the Aether. And they suggested the term ah neighbor punk, which is terrible a terrible term. They love to put, I think, you know, they do that as ah as as as a joke. They put punk in front of everything. But like, I think they are highlighting something really important there, which is the thing that's interesting about your Animal Crossings and your...
Speaker: fields of mystery is in your stardew valleys and your uh you know the place where all these came from what those games called uh you mean like the what's the proponent no the the like this snes game that these all came from harvest moon that yeah that's where i was going because that's oh that's what you meant by okay yeah so the thing that's interesting about all these isn't just planting crops and picking them up. Yeah, because I don't do shit with that. I am over that. I still do. I still like that stuff, but what's that's not what keeps me there. What keeps me there is the building relationships with the neighbors and stuff.
Speaker: Even Hocopia is this you know like oh maybe they called it a neighborvania i can't remember either way they called it a really genius stupid i think intentionally stupid version of something like that but yeah it's got it's like a hybrid right so it's got your farming sim it's got your animal crossing things because you're meeting people and you got friends and like You can design your own spaces. Yeah, you can design spaces. yeah But like Stardew Valley, you're exploring the mines and you're fishing and you're giving people gifts to make them like you. that's what I do.
Speaker: You're exploiting capitalism, right? Like you're doing all these things that you would do in these games. and ah But there's a couple of differences between the the very The first obvious thing is that it's a group of people who have learned the lessons of Stardew Valley, right? They yeah played Stardew Valley and they said, this game rules, yeah but I wish you could blank, right? And then they just filled in those blanks. Yeah. um So, for example, you can jump.
Speaker: Yeah. You can swim. You can... um
Speaker: I'm trying to think of some of the other stuff that's like little quality of life stuff. Yeah, i was going to say, I know it is. The quality of life stuff is better. ah Maybe like the bells on the barn? Or is that always there with both of them? good Oh, yeah no you late oh yeah yeah. You can ring a bell and it makes the but animals go into or out of your barn. That's a really that's a really good one. You can both save Or auto save. Like you can say it auto saves every time you go to sleep, but there is a way to save in the middle of your day. There is a setting in the settings, which I didn't know about until I heard it on on another podcast where you can slow down the pace of the day.
Speaker: didn't know that. If you feel yourself too under, like too stressed and under pressure. I did not know that. Um, so it's basically, yeah. So like they're trying to improve on Stardew Valley in all these ways.
Speaker: Um, But they add a bunch of stuff that Stardew Valley wasn't going for at all. Anyway, for example, this story, the story Fields of Mysteria takes place in a medieval setting, like a a medieval fantasy town in which an earthquake has just happened.
Speaker: And the town is trying to put itself back together. And they called, they they they enticed you here. So ah with an empty farm they had, like they gave you a free farm because they just, they needed more helping hands around the town to help improve things. And you end up being the best of them. Right.
Speaker: um I think there's even a chosen one narrative. Right. Like there's the whole like dragon sworn or something. Yeah. Yeah. Thing. that part.
Speaker: i don't know I don't know about, but the rest of you like it is a cool story. yeah the the over The overarching story slash stories of Mystia are, a little i think, a little bit bigger than Stardew Valley. Yes. Because in Stardew, it's just like, we got to make this farm so grandpa is real proud of us, and then we have to like you know get the community center back up. like That's all very grounded. you know like yeah ah Yeah. Fields of Mystia is way more fantastical.
Speaker: There's dragons and there yeah there's... I'm dating one. there's In real life. And then also you playing Field of Mysteria. You also have, because it's a magic world, you have magic powers. So, you know, like there's... You can get spells where like once a day you can recharge your...
Speaker: health and stamina, right? um Not actually, it's not once a day. You can do it as many times ah as you have spell slots. you have so You end up having spell slots like in D&D.
Speaker: yeah um And they recharge slowly. I think they take it takes four days to recharge each slot. um I think there's one where you can make it like rain. there's you can make it rain?
Speaker: Yeah, you start. Yeah, when you visit the strip club in Fields of Mysterio, No, um there's all sorts of, ah so that you don't have to water your crops. you can like So that is an interesting difference between it. Another interesting difference is that everybody, okay, so you know how in Stardew Valley, the characters follow their own schedules, but their schedules are mostly they walk to a place and stand there.
Speaker: Yeah, yes. um for several hours, and then they walk to another place, stand there for several hours, then they go to the pub, yeah stand there for a couple hours, they go home and sleep. So in Fields of Mystery, everybody has like a schedule, and like they have lives, which is yeah interesting. They will will go To some of them work. Most of them don't. But some of it go to the bathhouse and like take a bath. And yeah, they'll spend time in like the in the forest. And I'm actually not being fair. I think a lot of most of them do have jobs now that I think about it.
Speaker: They're all unemployed. But most of the time they're walking around, they talk to each other. They stop and have conversations with each other. They have hobbies and you can see them go out and do their hobbies. Yeah, I really like the characters in Mysterio a lot.
Speaker: I have more affection for the Stardew characters, but there's more to, like, just objectively, there's more to love about the Fields of Mystery of character characters. Yeah, I Because they there's more to them. They have deeper stories. They have more dialogue. Their dialogue changes depending on what time of day it is, yeah what day of the week it is, what season it is, whether they're inside or outside, um So they there's just so much dialogue in this game. You can like really get to know these people.
Speaker: Yeah, yeah, definitely. um And then like Stardew or any of these other friend punk games, yeah you get Neighborvania. Neighborvania. Yeah. Like these games, you get to different tiers of affection with each person. And yeah you can develop friendships or relationships. I think you can eventually get married.
Speaker: Probably have kids. I haven't gotten that far. But that's what I want to say about this 1.0 thing coming out. So i needless to say, we both love this game.
Speaker: Yeah. Yeah. And I haven't fallen in love with really any of the other Stardew killers that have come out. Yeah, same.
Speaker: But this one's really, really did it for me when it released in early access and it's really doing it for me again now. Oh, I'm glad. i was afraid there wasn't enough...
Speaker: Like changes or should I, like normally I would just restart it and redo the whole thing, but I did, I played it, I feel like too recently for me to just do a whole do-over. So I'm not really sure what I'm doing. This is this is what I want to say about the about the early access stuff.
Speaker: i I started again and I don't know that I've run into any of the new stuff. Oh, okay. Because the way they did it, they did it in chunks, their early access. The first early access came out and you could reach a certain level of the mines, a certain level of your spells. Friendships. yeah A certain level of your friendships. Exactly. And then, and you could play for as long as you wanted to, but you couldn't progress progress past these certain points. Right. And then with each subsequent update, they increased that. Right.
Speaker: I and might be forgetting some of the way it was at the beginning, but starting over, right? I'm not seeing anything that feels new.
Speaker: okay.
Speaker: I mean, I imagine that's because, like, it's it has to do with progression. So, like, yeah it's not going to feel new with your relationships until you get, like, the ten hearts. Right. And that takes time. So it it like takes time to build into even seeing new stuff.
Speaker: But some of the things me and you were talking about when we talked about early access and what we wanted out of the 1.0 version was like more diversity in the monsters and the minds. Oh, yeah, yeah.
Speaker: You know, that's the only thing I can really remember at this moment. But I remember like we we talked about wanting certain things updated. yeah On every level of the game. And I think.
Speaker: And I'm not finding that. I'm not. mean Again maybe my memory is just off. But I'm not finding any of that stuff. It feels mostly like I'm just replaying stuff. I already played. Which is still. I'm still having fun. But that means that.
Speaker: um I haven't really felt. The 1.0 of it all yet. Yeah. So. I don't know.
Speaker: Yeah, I'm going to have get it. I know it's always a time sink when I get back into these, so I haven't yet. Yeah. um Otherwise, like when Stardew came out, I like think I lost months of my life.
Speaker: I don't know where they went. I can't get them back. So... We'll see. We'll see. do you think do you think ah Do you think you'll start over, or do you think you will start where you left off? I'm going to try to start where I left off, because I pretty much know what I'm doing.
Speaker: Okay. Yeah. So I can see see my character get married to that weird that weird jerk guy. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. March.
Speaker: He's such an asshole. Yeah, he's still just being a jerk to me, because I started over. But... Except for when he's drunk and then he's very kind. Oh, good.
Speaker: um I don't know if you remember that. He was part of like, this is another thing. Their tavern isn't just a bunch of people standing around and they say the same dialogue as always.
Speaker: Everybody's, when people are at the tavern, especially on Friday nights, they have like these unique things. Like one group of people gets together and plays basically Dungeons and Dragons. It's cute. Yeah. um One group gets together and plays poker.
Speaker: One group gets together and has like a drinking club where they they try like fancy wines. Yeah. And March is always wasted. And he's always like, it's the only time he's friendly.
Speaker: um And the other really great thing about Friday nights is getting to talk to the dragon guard, who are the three little kids yeah in the town. they're cute.
Speaker: And they the three little kids in the town always hang out together. And they call themselves the Dragon Guard. And they put they send themselves on little missions. And on Friday nights in the ah friday nights in the tavern, they like hatch nefarious plots against other people in the town. It's very, very funny. It's so cute.
Speaker: So, yeah. So that's what that's also there's capybaras, too. And they're so cute. Yes, there's capybaras. I do like them. i like the animals in Mysterio lot. They're so cute.
Speaker: um Before we talk about what we want to talk about today, just some adventure game news and notes. Is that a new segment? Should we do Oh, I guess that we have a new thing. I don't know. There's just stuff I want to talk about, and I thought it'd be fun to so just give it a name.
Speaker: Okay. Number one. Yes. New Rusty Lake games out. Servant of the Lake. Oh, no I saw that. Yeah. i I've not started it. I'm very excited about it. Because it's one of the, you know, there are there are kind of like two flavors of Rusty Lake games.
Speaker: There are ones that are there like escape puzzle rooms, more like the cube escape side of things.
Speaker: um And maybe like a little absurdist. Yeah. And there are ones that seem, that are much more about the story of the Vanderbooms.
Speaker: The, like, family that runs throughout all the Rusty Lake games. um and Servant of the Lake feels like a, like a chapter in the,
Speaker: it's again they all are but in a more significant way a chapter of the Vanderboom saga and I am I think that story is really hard to follow but interesting and I like it good so I'm i'm excited about that
Speaker: next crowns and pawns just announced a sequel I don't know what that is Really? Okay. I don't, yeah. So, Crowns and Pawns Kingdom of Deceit was a was an adventure game that came out in 2022 that was like, um it was very Broken Sword.
Speaker: Yeah, okay I can see that. um playing it felt very Broken Sword. There was some weird set, Broken Sword, but with some weird set pieces, like there was a motorcycle chase. There was like, there was a lot of different, I'm trying to, it's been, you know, I played it in 2022 when it was first released, but yeah,
Speaker: Actually, it was moped chase now that I'm looking at screenshots. Yeah, it is a moped. I see the screen, the screenshot. But it was, you know, you were very, very much just like ah a normal person thrown into a conspiracy story that had to do with ancient artifacts and ancient, um you know, ancient history.
Speaker: Yeah. So that was very, it was a very cool game. And they just announced their second game, Crowns and Pawns, Amber Road. Okay, nice.
Speaker: So if you're a person who likes the idea of the um Broken Sword games, but doesn't like George Stobart.
Speaker: Yeah. This is a game. This is a game to try. It looks cute. They actually look really cute. I've never heard of these before, so it's really interesting.
Speaker: You know what what's a weird feature of these games? What's that? Is that you can change your character. like you can state You're the same character, but you can change your like outfit and i think skin tone and hair color. and so like You can like customize the look of your character, yeah which is very weird for a point-and-click adventure game.
Speaker: Yeah. Like I've never seen that in a point and click adventure game ever. Yeah. Same.
Speaker: um Last piece of news. And you, you know what this is. In fact, I think, yeah, I think I know. where Can I guess? You could probably say it. Yeah. You do it. You do it. Is it the new Thimbleweed Park? Yeah. Yeah.
Speaker: Yeah, Ron Gilbert just... Yeah, so i much to... I think everyone's surprised there's going to be a sequel to Thimbleweed Park, and I think that came out in like 2016. I'll check real quick, but I think... 2017. So the original Thimbleweed Park, ah almost a decade old now, which is crazy, which was Terrible Toy Box. Yeah, that's Ron Gilbert's ah develop development company.
Speaker: I think it's only a couple people though, right? It's like Ron Gilbert and Gary Winnick. Maybe. Yeah, I don't know much about the production of it, but I do know one thing about the production of the sequel that I'll tell you. Oh, okay.
Speaker: You tell me what you know about yeah I don't know much about it, honestly. I know that... ah I just saw it. Cressup did an interview with Ron Gilbert. I might listen to it. um The first thing I did was like look it up to see if it was like fake.
Speaker: Because I never know. i never know when Ron Gilbert is serious about like traing ah dropping a new game. I also am strangely... i feel...
Speaker: Oh, I looked this up. I remember that. Remember my first response to you was like, what are they going to do with Thimbleweed Park? If you've played the game and you know the story, what are you even going to do? It's a prequel.
Speaker: It's a prequel. Yeah, it's a prequel. So it's going to come before the original Thimbleweed Park, which is and that's really the only way I think they can go with it. And yeah, I don't think there's any screenshots out yet or anything like that. this is like super new.
Speaker: Yes. Yeah, I think it's it's not due out for a few years, but... Yeah, 2028. So, i think... i don't I don't know where this was announced, but the first place I... I think I heard it from you, and then the first place I saw it in the news was um on Bloomberg.
Speaker: Okay. um Jason Schreier spoke with Ron Gilbert, and... Apparently, this game what is funded by just a ah big point-and-click adventure fan.
Speaker: Really? Who is rich. Just a rich guy who's a big fan of point-and-click adventures. Who knows? Maybe he's a listener to this podcast. If so, hey, fund my... yeah ah Just general lifestyle. Oh, boy. sorry No. um He's ah just just some rich guy who... Interesting. like Because Ron Gilbert didn't want to work with conventional publishers and then just found a single investor.
Speaker: Yeah. Isn't that wild? That is wild. That never happens. When does that ever happen? Yeah, I don't even know when that... it It hasn't happened to me either. Make it happen for us. Somebody, somebody please. Fund us. yeah We don't know how to make games. We have no track record for making games and we don't know how to do it.
Speaker: We could do it. Give us $2 billion. dollars I could do anything with $2 billion. dollars she You want a good game? Give me $2 billion. dollars We could do it.
Speaker: Give us $2 billion. dollars We guarantee you something.
Speaker: Something. You will get something from it. Something will be made, maybe. And then we'll make them buy it. They still have to buy a copy. It's clearly in it for the money.
Speaker: So interesting. So exciting. ah Exciting week for our favorite genre, the game. Yeah.
Speaker: Is it our favorite? I guess it's our favorite. I think it's our favorite. I mean, yeah, I think it's our favorite. I mean, if we if we expand it just to like adventure games means games with a narrative and puzzles, then yes, it is our favorite genre, right? I'm like a pretty big side-scroller platformer girl too, but adventure game youre yeah adventure games are my favorite. I know we we both like other games, but you don't like...
Speaker: platformers more than you like adventure games hey there was a time when I did don't don't knock don't knock me but I know you now um no you don't it was Hanson Swanson the whole time you wait meaning wait like the as the the co-host of this podcast yeah yeah it's it's me Hanson Swanson twist big twist lore new lore drop the for for real real ag heads yeah for the for the real ones i'm sorry were you asking a question but what were you talking about i think uh you were just gonna tell people what we are talking about today oh yeah
Speaker: So today we're talking about the next installment of the Detective Grimoire games, The Mermaid Mask. This is the follow up to Tangle Tower, which we covered on this channel.
Speaker: Yes. Yeah. ah Episode number is early, right? Episode 23. That's pretty. It's earlier than I thought. That's fair.
Speaker: ah here to This is funny. I didn't realize we did this. um Games mentioned Lorelei, Lorelei and the Laser Eyes. Did I play those games like back to back? That's weird. That's so weird.
Speaker: I think you did. Huh. Okay. Did I do it to be funny? Because it is very funny. All right. why don't Why don't you play something fucking old and then we'll come back and we'll talk about Mermaid Mask.............
Speaker: Hey everyone, welcome back to Save Your Game. I am one of your hosts, Pushing Up Roses, with me as always... Hi.
Speaker: your game i am one of your hosts pushing up roses with me as always Can you wait till I say your name? Hi. Matt Aukamp.
Speaker: Hi. Hi. Hi. Hey. Hi. Welcome back. How was your break? It was good. Good. I sat here. Okay.
Speaker: how' your How was your break? Is that what you're as you're waiting for me to ask? Do you have something to share about you You're so rude. Why didn't you ask me how my break was? yeah I just sat here. Yeah, we sat here together. just think we were talking to each other. We sat here, not together. where're it's two thousand We're away from each other. We have an office and a recording studio. We have a 2,000 mile long room.
Speaker: this tell the people about what we're talking about ah just
Speaker: you can do it pull it together i know you can i know no i got it no i got this could you repeat the question i don't it was it a question i just said i it was a command i said tell the people what we're talking about here We're talking about the mermaid mask today, the new detective grimoire game. And I noticed that they're not... but Yes? Oh, you finished your thing. Sorry. I i lost i lost my thought completely. I noticed they're not...
Speaker: Oh, right. I noticed that they're not called like Detective Grimoire parentheses, blah, blah, blah. did you ah Did you notice that? So are we not supposed to refer to them as the Detective Grimoire games? no I think you can refer to them as, I mean, because they all have Detective Grimoire in them. So I think we can refer to them as that. But yeah, it is um Detective Grimoire, Secret of the Swamp.
Speaker: ah Tangle Tower without Detective Grimoire the French. It's called Tangle Tower. yeah And then Mermaid Mask are the three games in the Detective Grimoire series.
Speaker: um What the fuck is Detective Grimoire?
Speaker: are asking Are you asking me? yeah Yes. Yeah. Okay. You know how sometimes we give background on games to our listeners? No.
Speaker: Right. Sorry for springing this on you, but I just thought we'd try a new thing where we give background on the games. You're confusing me. You're giving me all these new segments. There's like gaming news. I don't know what's going on. Are we going to make that a segment, do you think? I don't think so, because I don't want to do research every week. Okay. All right. We're doing it. It's a segment.
Speaker: And that's how we make decisions on the Save Your Game podcast. Yelling at each other. So Detective Grimoire is a series of detective slash deduction games starring the titular character, Detective Grimoire.
Speaker: Although along like along the games, like in the trilogy of games, you do meet your side, not sidekick, not co-host. I think she's sidekick.
Speaker: What's really interesting is, yeah, so in the first game, you meet this woman who becomes your, I guess, sidekick? but I think sidekick, even though she's as capable, if not more capable than you. That's what I was going to say. I think she's more capable. It depends. they they take her And they make a joke about it in this game, is they take turns being the silly, dumb one. Like, in different ways.
Speaker: They just kind of like go back and forth. One will be the smart one and other will be the sort of dumb one. It's cute. um are So are they are these characters dating or not? I don't know.
Speaker: It was implied in the first game that there was so like so that there was some spark. There's some flirting there. And now i don't now I don't know. I want something to happen, though. I want that to be the next storyline. Well, not the first game, because in the very first game, this was this character was a little child.
Speaker: But that does it doesn't share. She wasn't a child. in um in the In the QuickTime game, right? Oh, you're talking about the quick time. I don't consider that like the first thing. That's what I'm saying. It's not canon. But I think yeah i think she was a shot.
Speaker: it It's been so long. Never mind. okay Well, not in the first like official Detective Grimoire where her character, Sally, she was just she was working at the place that Grimoire was investigating.
Speaker: So these games are based around this idea that you are a detective man. is it who... That's true....gets hired um to solve these like kind of weird mysteries in interesting locations... Yeah....full bizarre characters.
Speaker: That's true. Sorry, i am i'm I'm now going back to see, to remember what the other games looked like. Yeah. And wow. um I feel like they really...
Speaker: improved but have been enhanced did you the first detective grimoire game was 2014 was that long ago the secret of the swamp wow i mean i yeah i how can that be Well, we weren't... Remember, at at that at at that point, like, I wasn't playing these kinds of games. so like You weren't? I didn't... No, i I remember I took a big, long break from point-and-click adventure games. Yeah. So I didn't, like... I wasn't aware...
Speaker: Of Detective Grimoire, really, until Tangle Tower. Oh, okay. Interesting. So this is only, you know, but even that was 2019. Yeah. no I played Grimoire, the original, when it came out.
Speaker: I think 2018 is when I got back into Adventure Games. Okay. Okay. Yeah, because maybe 2016 is when I got back into video games in general. Because for years, all all I was doing was like I would play some old arcade-y style like PlayStation 2 games, and I would play a lot of um Skyrim.
Speaker: Yeah. And then and then i I got a PlayStation 3. When my son upgraded to PlayStation 4... He gave me his PlayStation 3 and I was able to play that next gen of games. And that was and I was like, oh, video games got really good while I've been away.
Speaker: And then that led me to go, you know, I really loved adventure games for so much of my childhood. yeah So it's been a long time since these games. Yeah, so you're right. The first game came out in 2014, but i didn't I wouldn't have known that until maybe sometime between 2017 and 2019. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Speaker: um Where I probably first heard the name Detective Grimoire, but i didn't even think I never thought about Detective Grimoire until after 2019 when Tangle Tower got so much um love.
Speaker: Yeah, yeah. And that one, I remember that going over my radar when we talked about it because I did play the original Detective Grimoire at the time in 2014. And then I had no idea there was there was like Tangled Tower.
Speaker: I didn't know that that game kept going. but Yeah, yeah. Until we talked about it. And man, it got good. Right. So the the actual gameplay here is that is you as Detective Grimmar, you you go and you talk to that all these crazy characters. You look around the scenes and you're kind of clicking on everything and certain items will be entered into um certain items. He'll just make a quip about or whatever. And, you know.
Speaker: in Tangle Tower, and the new game sallies with him at all times. Yeah. so they will just make quips back and forth off of each other. And the voice acting is very good. It's very, very good. Yeah. It's concise.
Speaker: It's clean. Everybody speaks at a like a pretty good pace. Pacing like really drives me crazy. So yeah, and the banter is very good. Everybody's charming and funny. Yeah.
Speaker: um There's laugh out loud moments in each game. And... i barely even it barely even bothers me that it is clearly that detective grimoire himself is clearly a non-american person doing an american accent yes and it's very very obvious but he's so charming that it doesn't cute it doesn't yeah it doesn't matter um and so You enter objects into evidence and then you talk to characters and you basically present these pieces of evidence to those characters. you ah and ask them And everybody's got something unique to say about each object and they have something unique to say about each other character.
Speaker: um And usually there's some other options, like where were you at the time of the crime? Or like usually there's like two other things where they're basically telling you their. The basics of their story and alibi.
Speaker: Yeah, so the the the way like the dialogue works and and the interrogation works, it's very similar to how I felt when playing Dagger of Amon Ra, because you get you you get these entries into like evidence, into places. not It's not called evidence in Dagger, it's called like items, I think. Yeah.
Speaker: And, you know, suspects and what you do is you go to every character and you ask them about all those topics. It's same with Colonel's Bequest, right? You can, I think like in the directions for that game, they even tell you like, ask, make sure to ask everyone about everything and every person. And that's the same in Mermaid Mask. It's not, and I don't think you have to ask about everything, but it's your benefit to figure it out because, you know,
Speaker: Yeah. People have different responses to different characters and different items and different evidence. So I don't know if you have to ask about every single thing, but I did because I wanted to feel like detective. So there is, there's, um,
Speaker: And hopefully the people in the Discord know that I was just, I was ribbing them earlier. And so ah I'm going to yeah do something similar now because somebody in the Discord said something like, well, you know, I think the better way to play the Detective Grimoire games or maybe the better way to play the Detective Grimoire games or whatever, whatever they said. I don't remember the wording, but basically just asking characters about things that they might have knowledge about.
Speaker: Yeah. And, I don't, I honestly don't think that would work. I don't think you could complete the game that way. I think you would always end up going, like, if you did that, you'd get to a certain point and have, and hit a dead end.
Speaker: And then you'd have to go back and ask everybody about everything anyway. Because there are people that have bits of knowledge that are incredibly surprising. Mm-hmm.
Speaker: And your conclusions only unlock when you have gathered a certain, not like an amount of evidence, but every everything on this topic that exists in the game.
Speaker: Like there's ah there's a there are several clues that you must have. And I guess you can go into like your notes and it will sort of nudge you. It'll say, hey, try to research this clue more.
Speaker: Try to research. Like it'll give you a list of clues. And it'll say if you want to unlock this person's mystery, because that's another thing we should say. In these games, each one of these characters has a secret that you have to uncover. Yes. Yes.
Speaker: um And it's like, if you want to uncover this person's secret, which you have to uncover everybody's secrets to solve the crime. um Right. It'll say, like, investigate these objects. So I guess you could do that, but you'd end up going, like, you don't know who...
Speaker: it's not always It's not always who you would think that would have that information that has it. Yeah. Sometimes it is a very random thing. and In fact, sometimes it is something that you already noticed about the object, but you can't interact with it until somebody else points it out. Yeah.
Speaker: Like you might notice a button. and Like i'm the visual itself, yeah. Yeah. Yes, exactly, on the picture of the item. And Detective Grimoire will not press the button, but if you go talk to the weird muscly guy, he says, hey, did you know there's a button here? yeah and then ah suddenly the button gets pressed. yeah And they're like, what,
Speaker: what to To riff off the person in our Discord's point, what is the connection between that guy and a button, right? i not like It's not like he's a button expert.
Speaker: Yeah. So it really is. You do have to just ask everybody about everything. And if you manage to not do that, you got it's probably because you got lucky.
Speaker: Yeah, yeah. I definitely was asking everyone about everything. um And I got stuck briefly only because I didn't um i didn't like read a page from one of the book things. Yeah, it was it was that. it was it was like I thought I had, and I guess I didn't, or when I reloaded it, maybe didn't catch that I had looked at something. But yeah, um you can interact with some of the inventory. And I got briefly stuck. When I missed it.
Speaker: I got stuck because I kept not interacting with things that other characters were interacting with. Okay. For example, um there's a guy at a typewriter.
Speaker: Yeah. And I clicked on everything in the room. Mm-hmm. except for the typewriter. Oh, really? Because I was like, oh, he's click, like, if I click on the typewriter, I just had, like, oh older games in my head.
Speaker: Oh, okay. Where I was thinking, oh, if I click on the typewriter, it's just going to be like I clicked on him. Right. It's just going to be like the typewriter is part of him. Right. His character model. And there were a couple situations like that. There's another guy that's in a hot air balloon yeah basket.
Speaker: And I didn't click on the hot air balloon basket because I was just like, oh if I click on the hot air balloon basket, I'll just click on him. That's an interesting reaction because I definitely, i clicked on those things. I clicked on the typewriter. I clicked on the on the basket. like So that's a very interesting reaction that that's like so coming from those older games, I guess.
Speaker: I got to the, yeah, I got to, like I got stuck. And those were, the reason I got stuck was because I was like, I know there's some pieces of evidence I haven't found. yeah And those were the pieces of evidence. Mm-hmm.
Speaker: um I think there was one other thing too, but I can't remember what it was. I think that that was something just more just like, oh, I didn't notice that was there. Yeah. Like yeah one of those things. um But ah just to finish, just to round out some of like,
Speaker: vague observations about these games in general and their mechanics so yeah so you gather enough clues and you can click on suspicion and then you will go into a sort of phoenix wright-esque um uh sort of like proving your case and so the the characters will just start laying out the things they know yeah outside of your control, but then they will pause and the game will ask you to provide a piece of evidence for it.
Speaker: Right. And you will have to go through your clues and say, okay, this is what proves the thing that detective Grimoire or Sally just said. Yeah. um And then occasionally you will have to make a conclusion And basically like a Mad Libs style thing will pop up where you can select from certain clues and then you can select from like
Speaker: ah a list of ah words that are already there to make a sentence that creates the correct conclusion. Yeah, it's it's very much kind of a duck detective, ah maybe golden idol type of a mechanic, ah except that, like you're saying, you can you can present evidence to prove what you're saying as well. I think that's nice. I think, yeah, it it reminds me of duck to tu Duck Detective, but it's like a little more polished?
Speaker: I think it's it's also a little more restrictive, right? you don't You don't just get to fill in anything in those things. There's a...
Speaker: they present you with a very limited number of things to put in each slot. Right. Which again, you know, a lot of these mechanics are very similar to Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney.
Speaker: Right. um Just not in a courtroom. The last observation I'll make before you tell them about the story of this one is it can be a little exhausting to ask everybody about everything or at least intimidating at first. Like you're looking at the game and you're like, oh man, this is so I'm going to have to do so much. But...
Speaker: The game does a, the the writers do a very good job of making every in answer interesting. Yeah. And either funny or intriguing or emotionally resonant or sometimes all three of those things. For sure.
Speaker: So tell us about Mermaid Mask. Okay. So ah just like the other games, this is going to be a murder mystery. That's not a spoiler. That's the kind of game that this is. And at this point, I guess that Detective Grimoire has like some notoriety around people. So they actually get like, quote, hired. orlthough Is this another thing where he gets like a ah letter?
Speaker: Yeah, I think he gets a Yes. Yeah. He gets a letter. Which is interesting because that's how the Tangled Tower started as well. And it was anonymous and we didn't even really know who sent it Anyway. He gets hired, but um there's there's there's a bunch of jokes in the game about how like hired is in quotes. Yeah. there's They have no idea who, if anybody, will be paying them for this. Yeah.
Speaker: So there has been a murder in a submarine, which is fantastic. I could not wait to see what the setting was going to be like for this game. Yeah. um Now, I i found the story a little bit strange. I don't know how much we'll get into the story, but there seems to be a lot going on ah besides the fact that there was a murder. Yeah. um There's also kind of this... this overwhelming feeling of something supernatural in the water they imply very heavily in the game that it is a kind of siren slash mermaid type of uh type of a being um and that plays a small role in the story and but yeah i'm like i'm trying to i'm trying to recall things about the story what do you have to say
Speaker: Yeah. The owner of the submarine is the person who was murdered. is Right. Magnus Mortu. And you. You get aboard the submarine, you you were hired by the current captain.
Speaker: Who won't talk to you at first. Yeah. Until you talk to... I don't know, because I went... Like I said, went systematically, and I just talked to everybody before I talked to her. okay. Interesting. But will she talk to before you talk to... I talked to the captain really early on. Okay. Yeah.
Speaker: So, yeah, you you're walking around this the submarine that's docked right off this... um This small little harbor town.
Speaker: And there's ah there's a bunch of... It's a very close-knit town, and everybody in the submarine seems to have ties to the town. Not everybody, but a lot of them yeah in some way. And it's yeah the the town is basically an inn, a ship repair place. Yeah, it's like, it's kind of, it's like a pier. It's like a ah like ah a stop, I think.
Speaker: A little seaside town, right? Yeah, so there's a place, there's like ah a harbor, like a place to repair ships. There's an inn. There's a theater.
Speaker: And there is ah this submarine yeah that...
Speaker: there's ah There's a lot of like... There's been a lot of like ownership changes between the ownership exchanges between the inn and the submarine. This is, it gets very complicated and you'll you'll understand all this by the end of the game or most of this, at least by the end of the game. But at the beginning of the game, you just know that there's like a lot of family intermarrying and deed exchanging between the submarine an old boat
Speaker: And the Stone Top Inn. Yeah. That, yeah. Some of those little connections I found a little confusing. Okay. um There are a few characters that are, they're not, and they're not suspects, but they appear in like flashbacks and stuff. I'm like, who, what? I don't remember. Who is this? um Yeah. There's some of like the people's like parents and stuff like. Yeah. didnty But the only ones you really need to know.
Speaker: um are Felicia Stonetop, Don Drummond, and Sylvia Seafoam. Oh, and Madam... Oh, God, I can't remember what her name is.
Speaker: A woman who owned a different theater. Right. Oh, ah the like Baroness Fortuna or something? Baroness Fortuna, yes. yeah So those are really the only four people that aren't there who you need to know in order to solve the mystery.
Speaker: Yeah. um And really, you could probably do it by just knowing who Felicia Stonetop is. Sure. But yeah, i mean I mean, you very early get the sense that I'm going to avoid deep spoilers. So we're just going to be talking about stuff you'll just you'll you'll find out in the first, i don't know, half hour, hour of the game. And this is like a, what, an eight hour game? Yeah, about...
Speaker: um looks like i played it for 10 so nice magnus was clearly clearly has like this lost love at the beginning of the game you don't know what happened to her but you know that he was in love with somebody she was somehow tied to this ship yeah um she was somehow tied to a ship that they both were on and the ship is somehow tied to the submarine that he was captaining um And she has ties to the Stone Top Inn.
Speaker: You also will meet, well i don't know, let's just, maybe the best way to do this just to go through the very basics of each character. Sure. So do you want to start with Zacharias Zephyr?
Speaker: Man, that's the last that's last character I found because I had a ah brain fart, I guess, while playing this game. i was I think I was even texting you. I'm like, I i don't know where this guy is. i don't know how I missed him. But yeah, Zacharias Zephyr. How would you describe him? He's a dream analysis expert.
Speaker: he's He's very much, this is a character who is very much into like,
Speaker: he's and a He's like an occult scientist. Yeah, I was going to say, like, it's very Freudian, but also there's a supernatural element to his studies.
Speaker: He's trying to, like, capture dreams as they yeah go as they enter people's heads. Yeah. And his his walls are covered in alchemical symbols, yeah and he's got all these potions, and he's got all these, like... a reiki master He's got all these, he's got like a golden hand and a third eye tattooed on his forehead. yeah and he's got like, ah and he's, ah yeah, he's got a dream machine that catches dreams as they go into people's heads. And he's sort of obsessed with these like magical artifacts.
Speaker: Yeah. And he's a, he was he's a friend Magnus's. like they knew each other back in the day and he magnus invited him onto the ship because magnus was interested in this dream technology right um is what i will say i'm not saying this is an example of this but not everything that we are told at first so the things that we're going to tell you about these characters not everything is necessarily true it's just what we are told at first yeah And I'm not saying that's the case about Zephyr. I'm just, I'm looking at all these characters and I'm realizing that's the case for some of the people that we're going to be talking about, like a cup ah like a bunch of them. So just keep in mind, if we say stuff that's incorrect, just remember this is what was, what we were told at the beginning of the game. So, okay, who do you want to go to next?
Speaker: ah The first person I think I met outside of just like hearing the captain in their cabin telling me to go solve the crime with Symmetry. ah similar Symmetry Silkworm. um And Silkworm, that's the name of the... Silk Moth.
Speaker: Silk Moth. She's Symmetry Silk Moth, but Silkworm is the name of the... The town, right? Yes. Huh. For some reason, conflated that they had the same last name. And I was going to ask you about it, but i was I was clearly just reading it or hearing it wrong. So never mind. its Silkworm on Sea is the name of the town. Well, but that's the thing. Silkworm on Sea, the Stonetop Inn, the Stonetop Family, the Seafoam Family. Symmetry.
Speaker: Sylvia Seafoam, Cynthia Seafoam, Symmetry Silk Moth. Yeah. yeah like You can see how I got a little confused. they do They do a good job of giving each of these main characters very memorable, separate like very different names.
Speaker: There's always alliteration in it. But then all these secondary and tertiary characters... their names are all so so similar yeah that it's nearly impossible to keep them all yeah straight okay so symmetry similar symmetry silk moth uh she is a young don't know how ah yeah i think they said she was like newly 18 or something yeah yeah um She stays on the ship in this area. No, she's not in the illusion theater. We find her in like a child's room, which is weird on a submarine, but that's what it looks like. It looks like a child's room. And she presents herself as this kind of performer. She's very gothy and speaks in a very poetic way. um And I don't think we know why she's on the ship quite yet, but she did...
Speaker: As far as we know, like perform like magic and illusions on the ship. Yeah. I think ah initially it's sort of either stated or implied that she was brought on the ship because Magnus like saw her perform and was like, hey, I like I like your performances and I want you to keep doing I want you to do them for me or something. Yeah. Yeah.
Speaker: She's great. I love her character. I love her. ah I love her expressions. I love that she reads the characters tarot cards and you can kind of like analyze them a little bit. she She was I think she was the first character I met in the game because I totally ignored the other guy. Yeah.
Speaker: And she's like one of my favorite characters in the game. She's great. She has some of the best reactions in entire game. She's, yeah, she's got this, like, high childlike voice, but also speaks in this, like, like Shakespearean poetic dialogue. Yeah. um Dialect, rather. And ah it's it's it's so clearly an affect.
Speaker: Mm-hmm. But it's still, I don't know. it is She works on both levels as like an adorable little kid and as like this poetic, grandiose figure. Because she seems wise beyond her years, but she also, she reacts like a child has. so Like, there's so many times that
Speaker: catch her in something or you say she just she gets scared all the time and she goes and she hides behind her like medallion that she wears she's cute though and uh I'll name two and then you name two since I'm already like looking at these characters uh the next person I met was the captain uh Cynthia spelled with I the new captain The new captain, yes. So it looked like SI, almost like synthetic, right? Is that kind of what they were going for? ah
Speaker: Huh. now Synthetic is SY. Interesting. Interesting. I don't know. I don't know why they chose to go SI. Yeah, they spelled it in an interesting way. Anyway, she... She's not, like, evil or anything. She's not, like, a bad person. She commits sin in the game, I guess. But, like, I don't think of this game as very religious. Yeah. She's ah she's a young character who just was kind of thrown into the new captain
Speaker: Yeah. um And also there's a murder on the submarine. So yeah, I can see her being a little anxious. But yeah, she's the one who wrote us to come solve this case. hes she's like She says that Detective Grimoire is like well known now.
Speaker: Yeah, she's like a little girl in this big captain's chair, she's like kicking her little feet off the end of it. And i like I like her storyline, too. Do you want to tell us about Dirk dan Damson? Dirk Dansom.
Speaker: Dirk Dansom is a... dirk dirk dance is a handsome Hollywood actor. Well, I don't know if it's Hollywood. I don't think they actually say the names of any real places, but he's, he's just like a, he's a himbo.
Speaker: He's a himbo, but he's, he's a little, there's a little more to him than meets the eye. Cause he's a, he's a, he's just a handsome himbo who was hired to play a character in a movie that is based on Magnus Mortuja.
Speaker: Yeah. so he appears of the helllsman or something hex of the helmsman um So he appears to be here to sort of research his role. um And yeah he's just like this. He's just, again, it's just kind of like a muscle bound Hollywood himbo who spends all this time sitting in his bunk, staring at the ceiling. yeah And,
Speaker: ah the more than meets the eye part of him that you learn very without, again, without getting into anybody's secret, because remember, everybody in this game has secrets. So without getting into his secret, the more than meets the eye is he provides a lot of insight.
Speaker: I'd say he is one of the most insightful characters in the game. When you present him any clue, he almost always has something to say about it that either Detective Grimoire or you the player didn't notice. Yeah, that's true.
Speaker: He says something incredibly stupid and then will just give you an insight that is very deep and thoughtful. um And ah he's also, yeah, he's, I think he's he's great. He's one of my favorites. I think Symmetry and Dirk are probably my two favorites.
Speaker: um And then, so I might as well, if i'm telling you about Dirk Dansom, I might as well tell you about J.D. Werman, yeah who is the author on the boat who wrote Hex of the Helmsman.
Speaker: So he is roommates with Dirk Dansom, and he's just this... um nebishy little writer guy is... A little wormy. Yeah, he's a little wormy and he's obnoxious about everything. um he's oh He's just constantly sarcastic. There's not... You know, i would say almost every character in this game gives you things to fall in love with about. Oh, yeah. um There's like a sympathetic side to each one of them. I would say the two...
Speaker: The two um exceptions to this rule are probably Zacharias Zephyr, who stays stoic and um distant, unknowable for the whole game, and J.D. Werman, who stays obnoxious and rude for the whole game.
Speaker: Yeah. um But yeah, he's on this, he's on the submarine to ah try and write a fucking sequel to his book ah that he wrote about Magnus Mortuuga.
Speaker: We did, we did establish that Mortuuga is the murdered party, right? Yes. Okay, he didn I didn't, I was like freaking out. I'm like, I don't remember if we said that. So Wurman, yeah, he's he's he's got this sequel problem where he had one book that,
Speaker: became huge and turned into a movie and is now a franchise. And now everybody's looking at him to write his second book. And he's like, fuck.
Speaker: And he's, and yeah, his room is just like littered with crumpled up pieces of paper notes and stuff. um Do you want to tell people about Godric grip?
Speaker: Yeah, Godric Grip was my favorite character when I found him because he's an he's an aeronaut, meaning he travels via hot air balloon, which is the coolest thing ever. Like Lee Scoresby.
Speaker: Who's Lee Scoresby? from It's from his Dark Materials. Oh, I haven't seen that. Or read I think the books are better than that. Yeah, I mean, there was a show and there was the Golden Compass movie, but the books are just incredible. Anyway.
Speaker: What saying? Oh, yes, Aeronaut. So this guy is weird. This guy was apparently rescued by Mortuga because his hot air balloon somehow like fell into the ocean. um And so Mortuga, the captain, prior to getting murdered, like quote, rescued him. And now he's taking up a room in the submarine. His basket is like everywhere. His balloon is like draped everywhere. And he's like a salesman. When you encounter him, he's just like, ah, you want to buy some stuff? Like he's very shit like showman, snake oil salesman maybe a little bit, ah that kind of character. and Yeah. I like talking to him and I like, i this has been, this game has a little bit of an aesthetic to me that I can't ah get out of my head and that it's like a circus in a submarine. Like everybody seems like they're circus characters. Yeah.
Speaker: Yes. Yeah. Yeah, definitely. Definitely. I mean, you've got the illusionist. You've got the fortune teller. You've got the carnival barking salesman. You've got the strong man. You've got like, yes, absolutely. You've got. Yeah.
Speaker: Yes. Yes. And on top of that, like ah the other character, Madam, her name is Madam Tadpole. She's kind of like also a circus, like a freak show performer ah that that you find out about her.
Speaker: um I like that character a lot, by the way. I love Madame Tadpole. She is a really strong, like built kind of feisty character.
Speaker: Yes. she So ah one thing before you get more into Madame Tadpole is Godric Grip is the most... In a cast of delusional characters, he is the most delusional character where he is pretending to have a shop.
Speaker: Right. On board the ship. And even has like cardboard customers. Yeah. um and he ah is, he talks to his cane. He's got a cane that has a face painted on it and a hat on it. And he calls him Cornelius Kane. And he's just a Kane.
Speaker: And he talks to the Kane. And you don't, yeah, you by talking to other characters, you get the sense that, is he always like this? Or is he hiding something behind this weird salesman thing? Yeah, what what they say is, like, he he doesn't always talk that way.
Speaker: right you It's possible that he talks that way when he's feeling nervous or shy. Yeah. um And so you get the sense of, like, oh, there's a layer to this guy. yeah That I...
Speaker: there's a there's a layer beneath this guy he's not as because when you meet him you're like this is very surface level he's just yeah he's just a eccentric crazy weirdo and then you get the sense oh he's probably he it seems like he's got a deeper personality and psyche than yeah then he lets he lets show yeah um all right so tell us more about madam tadpole Madame Tadpole was like an Olympian swimmer ah who has since embraced the fact that she is a good swimmer. um Like I said, she kind of comes across as like a little bit of a sideshow type of a character. She's green.
Speaker: um which this game is, these games are interesting because we both know that there are supernatural elements to these games. Yes. But when I met this character, I wasn't sure if she was also like, oh, is she half fish or is this part of a costume? Well, because she tells you she's half fish. She tells you that, but then we find an old like idea of hers that doesn't quite match her aesthetic. Yeah. So it seems as if,
Speaker: She... really like Because she was this Olympic diver or this Olympic swimmer, she's like just like identified strongly with this idea of being a mermaid. and it's not it's not like she's not hiding that the mermaid thing is fake, that she's not actually a mermaid.
Speaker: just tells people she's a mermaid I guess expects you not to fully believe it. Right. Her secret isn't, oh, she's actually not a mermaid. Right. We're not spoiling that. That's not the secret. Yeah, that's not the secret. Anytime you find something, she tells you like she dyed her skin green and she.
Speaker: Died her hair green and got like tattoos of gills. Yeah. Yeah, because she she she identifies, basically identifies as a mermaid or something, like I guess you could say. Yeah, it's like getting like body mods.
Speaker: Yeah. it's I thought she's so cool. She's, so she's an, she's an, I think she's secretly one of the weirdest characters in the game. Like I think Godric is so, so um on his surface. Yeah.
Speaker: ah The weirdest seems like the weirdest character in the game, but I think um quietly and subtly the weirdest character in the game is tadappole Madam Tadpole. Madam Tadpole. Yeah.
Speaker: really I really, do like that character a lot though. and i like all the character design as well. um And before we get into the kind of the last characters, ah it should be said that all of these characters are, they have some kind of connection to Mortuga, to the to the murder victim. It's very Clue-like in that way. um Whereas in like the Clue movie, for example, in that script, everybody has a connection to the host. Yeah.
Speaker: um And they all have secrets, right? That need to be unraveled. It's kind of similar to this. Everybody has a secret they need to unravel and everybody is connected to Mortuga in some way, even if the suspects do not know each other.
Speaker: um And so what I was gathering from ah Madam Tadpole, do you think that they had a relationship?
Speaker: I think Like, is that the connection that she won? I think that that the implication was that she wanted a relationship.
Speaker: Yeah. Magnus Mortuuga and he was too hung up on his ex love. Ah, yes, that is what that is. That was what I walked away thinking about those characters.
Speaker: So like that's ah that's just an example of one of the connections. like ah you know Zephyr is an old-time friend of Mortuga. um The new captain, obviously, that's just going to be her connection as they're both captains. So everybody has this this connection, even if the suspects themselves are not connected.
Speaker: Right. um Go ahead. So the final character, do you have more to say about Madam Tadpole? No. So the final character is my least favorite. Yeah, me She also doesn't give you much to like about her. She's almost just like an in she's almost like an info dump as a character. Yeah. um And her secret's not all that compelling. And she remains sort of mysterious even up to the end of the game. She sort of delivers the moral to the game. Right.
Speaker: in just like straight up, right? Like ah you could have deduced sort of the moral of the game just through, you know, normal,
Speaker: Yeah, just through getting the end of the game. you Cursory literary analysis, right? Yeah. um but But she sort of delivers it straight up like you're in a early 2000s sitcom or something. Right. um And her name is Mariana Moon.
Speaker: And she is obsessed with stories. She... and She's like... She's kind of hippie-ish.
Speaker: Kind of. She's kind of like an aging hippie. She's clearly like... She's like a drifter, like a wanderer collecting folklore and gossip. And she doesn't really...
Speaker: Maybe this is another thing I don't like about she doesn't really draw much distinction between folklore and gossip. Right. um i didn't I just didn't... I mean, with any kind of story like this, especially in like a whodunit murder mystery, there's on a there's always going to be characters that you like the least. That's just how...
Speaker: That's just how it is. yeah um But yeah, i wasn't big on her character either. and I think it's just because... i don't know. It could have been her delivery. She just was not as compelling as like Symmetry or Madame Tadpole.
Speaker: Yeah. She's just some woman. She's just some woman. She's just some woman who's here who knows a bunch of stuff. yeah And that kind of annoyed me too. And pretends to know more than she does. what that could she She doesn't have like
Speaker: nuance. There's no nuance to her. Yeah. Yeah. um She doesn't reveal like a tragic flaw or anything. Right. Yeah.
Speaker: I don't know. I mean, but say i guess the same is true of Zachariah Zephyr, but he's just like a more interesting looking character. design Like he's got a more interesting character design. He's got a more interesting like. Yeah. Yeah.
Speaker: He has a cool collection of stuff. It's on the scene. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And maybe I liked his voice actor a little better. I don't know. think that's fair. I think I wasn't.
Speaker: Every voice actor does a fucking great job in this game. But like you said, there's going to be some voices and characters and performances you prefer. And I think Zacharias Zephyr's performance is maybe just a little more compelling than Mariana Moon's.
Speaker: Yeah, that's fair.
Speaker: no No shade to the voice actor. Yeah, absolutely not. yeah it's It's down to the character as well. You know, I
Speaker: um you know i thought the only when i when we when gearing up for this episode, I was like, well, the only way we're going to have a compelling conversation about this is if we if most of this conversation spoilers. But I feel pretty satisfied with what we've talked about. I don't know if we i don't know if we need a spoiler section.
Speaker: We don't need it, but i do I do want to make some more generalized statements. Oh, please. About how I just felt about the story, because i think this game certainly has the most serious ending of the Grimoire games we played, I think. on Like, i've for some reason, this game and the stakes held a little more weight sure in this story. Things felt a little more tragic and um a little more weighty.
Speaker: um So I just want to say we don't have to talk about it. We don't have spoil it. But I loved the ending to this game. I love how this game concluded. And I think that's a feat in murder mystery games because I think murder mysteries are very, very difficult to write. um not that like it To me, some some of the stuff got a little convoluted. like You had mentioned Felicia Stonetop. I kept forgetting who she was. I kept forgetting which interesting which S name I was trying. Yeah, so some things got a little so lost for me.
Speaker: i think some of the stuff about yeah about like who owns what and who's who was in a contract with whom, that right that stuff lost me. But the Felicia Stonetop stuff...
Speaker: um I found so compelling. i i yeah That stuff I loved. I might have gotten a little bit hung up on like, the who owns what, and then I couldn't. And then yeah you couldn't see the forest for the trees. Exactly. Yeah, like, oh.
Speaker: I could see that. I could see that, because there is a lot of this... They try to make a lot of hay out of um the drama of... okay like...
Speaker: family legacy and passing ownership. And there is one, i think, really interesting and compelling turn that has to do with who owns what at what time. Yeah. um Yeah.
Speaker: There's one in the, in the very conclusion, like the, the, when you're solving the murder, there is one, one turn about that, that I think is really compelling, but all the other stuff, including like,
Speaker: one character's almost entire secret is about contracts and ownership.
Speaker: a And I thought that was the least interesting secret out of anybody. Sure. Yeah. But I did like, I did like the, the overall story.
Speaker: um, Which again, like i I love whodunits and stuff like this because yeah like you said, everybody has a secret, everyone has their own story, and they may may or may not be related to what is actually going on and what is actually happening. um Yeah, you find like a couple, it's almost like you have a big tangled ball of yarn.
Speaker: Right. And you find out that there's a, that you find out that some of the tangles of yarn aren't connected to the yarn ball. Exactly. Yeah. They might be tangled into each other. Yes. But they are not connected to the bigger yarn ball. And you're like, oh, okay, this person's story relates to this person, but neither of those things relate to the mystery. Yeah. Yeah, the actual mystery hand. Which is and fascinating. Yeah, I love how it concluded. love that there's kind of this, again, the supernatural element, this one being like mermaids, sirens, risulkas, stuff like that.
Speaker: um And i've really i just got to say, I really was impressed by the ending because, again, it's hard to write murder mystery in general. It's hard to conclude mysteries, I think. But yeah, I really like where this went. It got a little bit serious. and Yeah, i felt like the stakes were high. i liked it.
Speaker: Yeah, and there's there's some just like really interesting imagery at the end of this game. Yeah, there is. um There's, you know, like the
Speaker: final, not the the, the climax of this game. I'll say like that. I will probably never forget the That scene.
Speaker: I will probably never forget the climax to this game. like the yeah it was It was so interesting and
Speaker: visually and conceptually interesting at the same time. That's scene that will
Speaker: a scene that'll never leave me Right. Yeah, there's a few at the end there that I'm like, oh, that's awesome. I love that. And I love the imagery. Yeah, I mean, yeah, I mean, the conclusion to this game will probably stick with me as well. Like, just like the yeah solution to the mystery. I don't know, because I probably thought the same thing about Tangle Tower, and I remember very little about yeah I really didn't see any kind of twist like this coming. this Like in a lot of mysteries, like especially the mysteries that I like to watch and go over like Murder, She Wrote, you can kind of solve them by way of like, oh, I have a funny feeling about this character. I think the game wants me to not like this character, but I actually did not see...
Speaker: I didn't see it being this character. Yeah. I saw. Yeah. I saw the motive coming way early. Yeah. Because, well, sort of like, because there's a lot of, you can almost like put, put it together visually hours before the characters do. If you pay attention to like the shapes of certain things. Sure. Yeah. Yeah.
Speaker: If I may, there is a part of this story that I thought didn't go anywhere and I was sad about it. And I know that that is a thing in murder mystery. Obviously, I cover a lot of murder mystery and the red herring is a very popular mechanic.
Speaker: But there is a part of this story where they go over... a couple of women who had discovered a sea monster in like in the ocean.
Speaker: And these women brought the sea monster onto to the submarine with them. And then it is, it had since gotten taken away, but it was basically a cryptid. They basically captured a cryptid kind of resembling, I don't know, what a long necked sea monster, like a Leviathan, something like that. That never went anywhere though. I thought that i thought for sure that that yeah little plot point was going be something, but it's not.
Speaker: Yeah. It provides some context for a couple things, but you're right. like That is just background. Yeah. that is just background Which is unfortunate to me because I think, you know, introducing a, hey, we found a cryptid in a game that's also about a cryptid. I just thought there would be more to the story than that.
Speaker: Maybe Detective Grimoire 4 will be about the... You know, there is a lot of ties between characters from the first two games and this game. That's true, yeah.
Speaker: But... I don't, i didn't remember a lot of them. The characters allude to the fact that these are references to the previous games. Yeah. Yeah. Um,
Speaker: Or they make like a sly comment and then you as the player can be like, oh, they're probably referring to something from a previous game. But I didn't remember a lot. I didn't either. It's been a while. I mean, now that we know that was like episode 23 or something, it's been a while but since we've even talked about Tangled Tower.
Speaker: I think we already met a stone top or a seafoam, one of the two. We might have. Yeah, I'd have to go back. and Yeah, same. and It might be worth kind of going over. So it's possible if they make another game that there will be more context, you know, revealed. But...
Speaker: They do make a joke in this game about how these games take so long. Yeah. To make. And so that that they're they they were like, because at some point they they say something about the next mystery. And then somebody says, and then Sally says, I think, next mystery. And then Detective Grimoire says something like, ah if there is a next mystery, these things take so long. They So I think it was like, I think they mean like take so long. it takes so long to make these games. They don't know if they're going to make another one. Yeah, that's totally fair.
Speaker: ah But I really hope they do because fuck these games. I'd play these games till the end of time. Yeah, they're so fun. i i Honestly, I would not... have thought that or guessed that based on just the original 2014 detective grimoire like it's yeah very cute i liked it but i was actually shocked that it had like a sequel and now has another sequel but hey the more people that buy all the detective grimoire games the more likely it is that they will it's true
Speaker: Keep making them. And don't buy Crow Country from SFB games because then they'll think they should make other games. so but And we don't want to give them ideas. no don't discourage that. If you've bought Crow Country, refund it. No, I loved Crow Country. It was really good. um All right. Well, I think that's all I wanted to say about the mermaid mask. How about you?
Speaker: Yeah, I think so. I think I've said what i what I needed to say.
Speaker: uh yeah we both hated it and yeah it was terrible and i'll never play it again it's so good it was so good um so i guess that just goes to say guys thanks you so much for hanging out with us and talking about games with us thank you for loving us thank you for loving us i'm sorry that i yelled at you earlier in the show but you yelled at me No, the ag heads. Yeah, don't yell at our viewers. I yelled at them yeah i yelled at them because they're going to say, um getting mad again. i know one of them. I know it. I know one of them is going to say, actually, I do find cringe scary. Oh, my God. don't. You find it anxiety inducing.
Speaker: I can't believe you found a way to circle back around her to yelling at our fans for no reason. but Just the thing I'm making up. you Do you ever back in the it wasn't early days. It was mid days of Twitter. It was when right before Twitter got kind of right before Twitter got absolutely terrible. Yeah. Yeah.
Speaker: there was ah there was a tweet that was like, Twitter is just a bunch of people making up a guy and then getting angry at that guy. Pretty much. And I as i love i love that tweet. And that's what I'm doing to our fans right now. We actually love you guys.
Speaker: We love you. And you know what? ah We appreciate that you guys hang out with us every week and ah and hang out on our Discord. If you want to join the Discord, link is in the show notes. If you want to follow us on Instagram, we are Save Your Game Podcast.
Speaker: And if you want to email us, MattandRoses at gmail.com. tell us Tell us good things. Tell us you love us. Tell us we're cool. Tell us we're hot and sexy. Please. And we have good butts. We have such good butts. Tell us about our butts. Yeah, tell us about it Write us about our butts. A poem, please. A poem. Write poems about our butts.
Speaker: Poetry contest. Ooh, can I judge this one since you got to judge the Hanson Swanson fan contest? Yeah, you get to judge the poet. I want them to do an art contest about dark, cool man. But- That could be number three. Number two could be a poetry contest about our butts. Again, as I said in the Discord, this is not an oligarchy. You get to decide your own contests. But if we may humbly suggest a poetry contest about our butts. About butts. Yes. Love it.
Speaker: Yeah. ah I don't know what our next episode is going to be about. Me either. There's some cool stuff that came out again. Servant of the Lake came out. um Uncle Lee's cookbook, five recipes for disaster. It looks pretty good. Yeah. Yeah. i remember the, I remember the, like the demo or the trailer for that.
Speaker: Yeah, um there's there's a bunch of there's a bunch of cool stuff, and then there's some older stuff that we never that we didn't get to from earlier in the year. And yet, you know that I'm just going to play Dagger of Amon Ra for the 20th time. For the 20th time. And then for the 30th time, ask me if we can do another episode about Dagger of Amon Ra.
Speaker: Can we? No. what Why don't you like mine She's you've actually never asked me that for real. ah Again, people in this fucking discord are going to get in there and say they should do another episode. No, again, I'm making up a guy.
Speaker: We are so punchy. It's late at night.
