Hello and welcome to Eberron Renewed, a D&D 5th edition actual play podcast set in the Eberron campaign setting. I'm your dungeon master, Eric. And I'm Philip. I'm Randy. And I'm Jeff. And welcome to another episode.

Recap of Previous Episode's Adventures

00:01:00
Speaker
Gentlemen, what happened last time? We killed some Cory.
00:01:05
Speaker
Yeah, Cory got in poor little Booyah's head and made him Sharpshoop one of his best buddies. Poor Booyah? People keep messing with his mind. It's not hard. I mean, Dex always knew that Booyah was good to have around, but boy, now he really sees what this dude can do. Yeah, it was rough. But we frustrated the Cory into leaving. We did. It's true. And then Dex melted him. Yeah, then we didn't let him leave. It was cool.
00:01:34
Speaker
It's true.

Journey Through the Dreamscape

00:01:35
Speaker
OK, so we've basically been dream hopping. We've been hopping from dream to dream towards the center of Delcore. Mm hmm. So, yeah, you all find yourself in this blank dreamscape of sleeping guys still there.
00:01:48
Speaker
The sleep guy is still there. What a dream he's having. It's super weird. He's going to wake up and be like, what? What did I eat? OK, so Bhimani is going to. Dex is going to go to the sleeping guy and start whispering the commands in his ear when he wakes up. I think I want to use some. I propose that we take a short rest. I'd like a short rest, please. And relax with this odd sleeping dude.
00:02:21
Speaker
OK, so after you all have taken a moment to breathe, Gamani ensures that you are ready to continue. So take off, run, jump. She does tell you before you all take off that you are getting closer to the center. Once you enter the central sphere, then there will be some level of navigation internally to find the engine, essentially.
00:02:52
Speaker
that will be presumably protected. So you all take off, hop through a couple more dreams as you're navigating. And so as you all are dream hopping, you do begin to spot the central sphere.
00:03:23
Speaker
However,

Encounter with the Kori Dreadnought

00:03:27
Speaker
as Bhimani kind of feared that you all are expected, basically, you see that there is a guardian kind of floating in the ether around the central sphere. Can we ascertain the make and model of this guardian?
00:03:48
Speaker
Um, as you all land, um, and, and kind of, well, you're, as you're all floating through, because you can't see outside of the dream skips while you're in them. Um, Bhimani curses under her breath and says, it's a Kori dreadnought. So you see a gargantuan creature.
00:04:13
Speaker
floating through the ethereal space, kind of surrounding the central sphere. It looked like this. That's intimidating. So like the one constant feature of Quarry binds them all together. No,

Strategizing Against the Dreadnought

00:04:36
Speaker
the other one just had tentacles.
00:04:51
Speaker
That thing is going to know the instant that we get close so we're gonna have to deal with it one way or another
00:04:59
Speaker
There's no way to sneak around it, per se. We're basically going to have to jump through a big open space in a straight line towards where we want to end up. So no. And when we're between these dreamscapes, we can't really do anything, can we? I mean, you could like, for example, on a gargantuan creature like this, you could land on it and
00:05:26
Speaker
attack it. Oh, I didn't realize it was that big, okay. And it was big, but I didn't realize it was that big. This is like ancient dragon sized. Alright, so we're playing Shadow of the Colossus now. This is the sort of thing where like swallowing you whole is an option. Yes, in fact there are things that happen when that happens. Oh. Okay. And you don't necessarily die.
00:05:50
Speaker
Can you banish something if it's already on its own home plate? I mean, it's a temporary thing. You basically send it to a pocket dimension for a minute. Yeah. We can get a lot done in a minute. I mean, I don't know what the capabilities of this thing are. I know. What's the saving throw? You have banished race. Girls are based. It's not its best stat, so.
00:06:15
Speaker
What's the, try to shoot it and banish it? Like it. I got two spell slots. These things, the money to as you all land in, like, what's kind of the final dream before you launch yourself? You're really close. These things are notoriously two things. Strong and a hottie. They're a real hottie? Yes.
00:06:44
Speaker
They're not quick. They're not smart. Their mind is relatively well guarded against spells. And so that's not a guaranteed thing, but they're not smart and they are not quick. And is it on like a circular patrol around? It's kind of like flying around looking like if we
00:07:06
Speaker
Is there any hope in I mean, I'm looking at the space. Is there any hope in just making a dash for it? I mean, you can try that, but your best hope is to land within the central sphere before this thing can get directly at you. But in that case, it could always try to come after you. Like I didn't know if like the space we're going into is able to contain it. And there would be a lot of destruct like
00:07:33
Speaker
Gotcha. Yeah. I mean, if this thing chased us right to the machine, that would be swell. Yeah. So do we want to try to just evade, time our jumps, wait till it's, you know,

Battle with the Dreadnought

00:07:48
Speaker
I mean, not looking or far away. Not in the spirit of that ability. I don't know.
00:08:06
Speaker
I feel extremely trepidatious about attacking this thing. I don't want to attack it. Now fit attacks us. Sure. But I feel like we just kind of wait until it's far enough away. Or look in the wrong direction. Or preferably straight up travel in the wrong direction. Time our jump and go. Get into the next one.
00:08:34
Speaker
Do we know? But money might know But money do you know can they see are we protected inside a dreamscape from like visual confirmation or can this thing just see right in here? Oh, I Kitesh is able to see through the dreamscapes. Okay Corey can see yeah. Okay. Okay. Well then boo on that but All I can do is jump this so will this creature still be able to see us if we were invisible I
00:09:05
Speaker
its vision. If this thing were to look directly at you... I was asking, I literally may be asking Elani to see if she knew, she seemed to know something about these things. These things, have you all ever encountered a beholder before? Yes. Where when you stand in a beholder's gaze, magic seems to not function correctly. Ah.
00:09:39
Speaker
So, if we were invisible, waited until it was moving away from us, and launched ourselves at the greatest possible speed, would we do it? There's a chance.
00:10:04
Speaker
I feel like that's the chance we got to take. Pardon me, that doesn't sound like that. Now what do you think, Vermont? Is there any hope in an assault on this creature? There's certainly a hope. I mean, the short time that I've traveled with you all, you have shown yourselves to be evil.
00:10:19
Speaker
more than capable when it comes to killing things. So I would never bet against you all in a fight. You know, if we do land on it, I have to imagine it mitigates. It's what it can do to us. To some degree, like I can't bite my neck. Can you bite your neck? You can punch it. Or if you had pincers, I'm fine with attempting that, too. I.
00:10:47
Speaker
I don't like it. Basically, it wouldn't be able to, like, see you. So I'd be OK with saying, like, when you are physically on the thing, unless you're like on its nose, that it would have disadvantage trying to hit you because it's just like swatting at you. And as Bimani said, it's very slow. So. You're going to try. Well, either two options are.
00:11:16
Speaker
jump and hope it doesn't see us. And if it does see us, we fight it. Or we jump on it and initiate the fight. It's gonna be much harder to get onto it after it seems. Exactly. So if we're going to attempt that, I think we have to attempt that. I don't think that can be a backup. Booyah. Yeah, Booyah. You do like writing things. Booyah only like write decks. Are we gonna do this? That seems to be the option we have.
00:11:47
Speaker
We can certainly try to. Jump behind it and go unseen, but now if we try to jump behind it one time, the odds of it getting to us. If we let it get a bit away, you say they're slow and I'm looking at it and I'm seeing what its base patrol movement is. I assume it can move faster, obviously, but so I say.
00:12:08
Speaker
We're pretty much if we wait till it's far enough away, we're pretty much safe to make it into the next sphere. But then it could it could notice that we jumped and be waiting for us to jump out of that one is the issue. This is the last jump, right? This is the last. Oh, I thought we had one and then one. No. Also. This may not be. I hope this is a concern for the three of you.
00:12:36
Speaker
you all need to return to your dream scapes to get out of here and if the option arises that you all need to leave in a hurry and this thing is still circling about that could prove to be a problem that's a good point
00:12:56
Speaker
I did not. I've not been paying attention to that. No, no one has said anything about that. No one told me I left no breadcrumb. I left no string. You're fine. I did not Hansel nor Gretel. Well, no, that's a good point. I feel like hearing that this thing's got to be removed. Right. Oh, boy. I think maybe we jump on back surprise. I think that's the only thing we can do. I take out.
00:13:23
Speaker
That's what we're about to do. Booyah's going to cast Shield of Fame. And Dex says, Agro! That's a joke for my old PlayStation heads. OK. The horse in Shadow of the Colossus was named Agro. And you had to summon it to chase down all of the colossi to jump on them. I see. Well, not all of them. Enough of them. And you fall off a lot. So you hear a whistle and then Agro a bunch of times in that game.
00:13:55
Speaker
I'm going to have a mandate for the next campaign that you all have to pick characters with different letters for their first name. What do you think of your first name? I haven't fixed it. Just say a word so I can say the same letter. Come on. Yes, Andy, here. OK, so let's go ahead and get initiative out of the way.
00:14:23
Speaker
natural 20 you'll be landing on it gets us a bit of a surprise natural eight so 24 22 what's your natural 20 get you 25 hey natural 20 for money Eric was gonna get to go first no still does
00:14:55
Speaker
Um... So yeah, Beric, you are up first. How many of us can I assure will land safely on the Dreadnought with my natural 20? Um... A delightful question.
00:15:09
Speaker
I'll let you ensure that all of you make it onto the Dreadnought. I would like to ensure that very much. Or in the Dreadnought. This preposition is very important to me. One letter changes everything. Okay, so yeah.
00:15:29
Speaker
So with barracks natural 20 and we'll combine it with the monies just because it's kind of a big thing. None of you have to make checks to land on the dreadnought. You're able to just use your movement to get there and then you'll get an action on your first turn. OK. All right. Berwick. Launch.
00:15:52
Speaker
OK, so yeah, you time it to where the dreadnought head kind of curls around the central sphere just as you jump. So where you're not being seen by it. And yeah, you're able to land on its back. OK. Kind of catching on to it because you're still in the like the ether. So because one of the things I thought was I can't use the polymer blade because I turned into something small. We're all just floating would be awesome, though.
00:16:23
Speaker
We're like in that room in Alabama at NASA where things just kind of don't stop moving. All of you holding onto one tentacle of an octopus as it's. All right. So Beric lands and then I guess take my turn. Yes. OK. So as a bonus.
00:16:47
Speaker
I am going to summon my telekinetic fist again so that I have this available to me for a smashing. And so as part of that bonus action, so as a bonus action, Beric raises his hand, clinches his fist, the air around it shimmers. And as part of that bonus action,
00:17:17
Speaker
Barrick rears back and just slams down with his left fist into the Dreadnought. Okay. Surprising it as I am, I assume I have advantage here on this attack. Yes. Good. So...
00:17:43
Speaker
25. Hit. Cool. So first I just slams down with pure force. And it takes. 14 force damage. And then I will attack my action with the flamethrower. OK, first attack is 26. Yes.
00:18:09
Speaker
Second attack is 19. Miss. OK, so it's hardy. Twenty three more fire and slashing from flamethong long sword. OK. Now Bhimani is going to make her leap land on the dreadnought.
00:18:42
Speaker
I wonder which would be. Well, this is this is killing me. This just seems like the cheesiest of cheese things to do. OK. So far so good. It's going to make.
00:19:18
Speaker
A... Do you have the written down stuff for the spear that you were using? Can I see it? Oh. Oh, yes. Hardly approved. Which bit? I think she's gonna unleash the firestorm. Yeah, so she lands and just points, like, spreads her feet and just starts spinning the spear in front of her pointed at an angle down.
00:19:41
Speaker
and just starts launching this into the dreadnoughts back. So yeah, strength saving throw.
00:19:54
Speaker
which her DC is, I mean, I would ask a reasonable question here. Can she move it with this force while standing on it? Like that part might just be a that's nonsense sort of. So the dexterity saving throw, he misses. So 6d6.
00:20:21
Speaker
Fire damage, pretty much in perpetuity. I mean, I don't know if the surprise is the name of the Dex was inspired by that movie. 11, 12, 14, 15, 18 points of damage.
00:20:43
Speaker
So, yeah, the money just lands and just start burning a hole in this thing's back. Is it? Rears as

Navigating the Alien City

00:20:51
Speaker
Dex lands on it. Dex has lately on out. Yeah. And it was very inspired. He's going to like stab and that would be awesome if I could do that narrative. Yeah. I guess I could action search to literally stab it and then lightning through it.
00:21:11
Speaker
Yeah, because then you get your sneak attack because it's all wet in there, you know, like she's going to carry real crazy. Yeah, that's awesome. That's that's narrative. Awesome. I know. But if I'm going to do the action surge, I need to be too. I'm not saying you need to just describe you as doing that and then roll the lightning damage. OK, so as I land, I land.
00:21:30
Speaker
Fists first plunge lately on it into its hide. I assume if I can get in there I don't know what this thing's made of and it has to make a DC 16 dexterity say it's made of goo. Yeah, it fails 26 oh man Good ones and I don't get sneak attack on these I'm kidding. That is 44 points of lightning device. I
00:22:00
Speaker
right into its spine. Dream Shark. So yeah, it lets out a whale. Oh my god, now there's a whale. Out of its mouth. Space whale. I liked that. But the dream whale is the nine. And fantasy whales are always there. I'm going to have
00:22:24
Speaker
Everybody that is on, so everybody but Booyah needs to give me a wisdom saving throw. Oh my. As it's legendary action. Is this a charm effect? No. When is it gonna be a charm effect, Eric? I'm sorry. Is it, nope, nevermind. Bamani passes. 23. Pass. 18. Okay, so Dex takes full damage. Barak and Bamani take half.
00:22:53
Speaker
Action surge. Action surge. Oh, no, action surge is probably uncanny. Dodge, the one that hurts less. I did want action surge, but the legendary action is kind of... 12 damage, 6 damage. Oh, okay. Any particular kind? Psychic. No difference for this guy. And now it is Booyah's turn.
00:23:20
Speaker
Hunter is smart. Can Booyah shoot it in the back of the head as he's flying over? Sure. OK, so Booyah is flying. Booyah don't bash it. He's going to shoot it. Awesome. Sharp shoot it. Yeah. Has it acted? Nope. I get advantage. Its turn has not come up. It's taken a legendary action.
00:23:55
Speaker
That's 21. Hit. Aberration? Yes. 37. Whatever. And one more. As we go flying through the air.
00:24:20
Speaker
It's like when the cop dies. Do I get advantage on this role too, since it hasn't acted? Yeah. The exact same. No, it's not. That's different. Well, I'm not going to get it this time. You should learn to recognize numbers. It's a 12. 12? That's a miss. And then we got lands on its back. Okay. Now it's the dreadnought's turn. Um, so it is going to, um,
00:24:49
Speaker
17, 17 still didn't hit it that way. No.
00:24:55
Speaker
So yeah, it's going to use its claws to try and, um, get at you since it can't reasonably bite you from this position. Um, before you even roll natural one creates itself, right? We'll see. It takes its own damage, decapitates itself, pinches itself. Okay. I don't mean to kill the self. It just takes its own day. Um, it's going to,
00:25:24
Speaker
Go after Dex. So that is going to be 26. Yeah. That's a hit. And I already used my uncanny dodge. That you did. And that was a mistake. Yeah. A big mistake by the look of Eric's face. Well, that's so givey tense.
00:25:58
Speaker
41 damage. Oh, that sucks. Oh, that sucks. See, I just very slowly kind of, whoop, and just crushes Dex under it. Second attack. Dex, the fastest man in the world can't get away from this big, slow claw. Second attack, Beric. I'm sorry, I need to write that down. I'm gonna forget how much I lost. 28. Oh, wait, no, sorry, 18. Oh, no. Ha ha!
00:26:29
Speaker
Okay, we are back around to Beric's turn. Yeah. I mean, I like the way that first round went, so we're going to just keep it up. Beric is going to punch it with the force. Do we have advantage for being on its back? Sure. Like it when you do that.
00:26:54
Speaker
So close. The one thing I'm sure I'm not going to do, it's miss the ground with a thing. The natural 19 plus a whole lot, so. Twenty nine force damage. OK. And then Derek will make two attacks with Flametongue Longsword.
00:27:21
Speaker
sort of magma something late of magma fall of magma falls but it's not a step magma falls was the worst vacation i ever took agreed way oversold uh it's so hot second one i had 26 i hit okay so
00:28:02
Speaker
42 total between the two attacks. Beric is just on it slamming down with Forest trying to crack its armor and then slashing any exposed
00:28:17
Speaker
Dicker or whatever, whatever is underneath. It's mind carapace. So, yeah, the thing is really kind of like you all are obviously still having to like hold on to like thing because you're still in the ethereal and this thing's like barrel rolling and flipping and trying to get you all off of it. But money is going to continue just shooting the fire.
00:28:48
Speaker
10 21 so What Not gonna spike any damage but gonna be consistent, yes Okay, it is now Dex's turn. I got three more charges this girl. So uh sure Leliana DC 16 save my man dexterity miss our fails
00:29:31
Speaker
43 points of lightning damage. Awesome. Okay. Action. Surge. I'm going to maul. I'm going to save my last two charges for whatever we meet inside the last room. There's probably going to be a horde mode where you're going to want that. So this is with the maul. Maul it.
00:29:53
Speaker
Nope. It did not get me. It didn't, it didn't get all it. You know what? In fact, it just goes, it just bounces off and goes flying off. Just, Oh no. Oh no. No, no, no, no, no. Natural one though. Um, I caught it. Booyah keeps firing bolts in it. Sharp shooting. Nope. How about that? That's going to be 25. Hit.
00:30:26
Speaker
Sick those double sixes. Keep rolling. 34. Nice. Nice. Putting some hurt on it. Just putting bolts in the back of its head.
00:30:36
Speaker
Booyah, you you're running along the length of this thing up to the back of its head and you just you miss the first shot as you're like running towards it but then your second one you just kind of point straight down and you get it right in between two cracks in the armor and the crossbow bolt just sinks straight down as this thing like lets out a roar and at the same time like Bhimani is like
00:31:02
Speaker
Burrowing a hole through this thing's armor and it all of a sudden just goes limp and she shit the money shouts jump and lunch Everybody give me dexterity check Two of them
00:31:23
Speaker
You guys wanna get me over there? Very much so. No, I got a 15. 15? Okay. So, yeah, my money makes it. So you all land safely in the city. What would you all like to use your natural 24? Boy. Is there some kind of...
00:31:47
Speaker
I assume since we have some terrain to cross is I'm kind of way to advantage our sneakery. That's what I was going to suggest is like I will say that nobody, none of the quarry saw where you landed. So you are incognito right now. OK, that's fine with me.
00:32:06
Speaker
works yeah okay um so now so you all are in the central sphere um bamani turns to you all and says now the machine that's basically powering the protection over this sphere is in the center of the city so
00:32:27
Speaker
We're going to need to make our way there. And once we start the process, it will not go unnoticed, mostly because the QWERTY leadership are tapped into this machine and will know if somebody is tampering with it. How long will we have to wait, have to hold? I haven't ever done this before. I can't. Cannot tell you.
00:32:58
Speaker
What will we need to do? Are we just striking the machine with weapons? Like I said, the energy from the stones will need to flow into the machine to essentially overload it with arcane energy. Will they simply know to allow that to happen? Are they for lack of a better term programmed to do that? Yes. Like I said, these weapons were manufactured for this
00:33:23
Speaker
Explicit goal so once essentially once the the blades or in the case of the mall the head are
00:33:35
Speaker
essentially struck into contact with the machine and left there. At that point, it will just be a matter of waiting until the energy is completely transferred. So we may we may have to it may be relatively instantaneous, or we may need to defend the machine until it can finish what it's doing. If what me and my people believe to be correct is correct, as soon as the machine
00:34:04
Speaker
Uh, as soon as it's done its work, then any quarry that are attacking you should, um, should die instantly. And you, this, this will be the end of the line for me.
00:34:27
Speaker
Um, once again, I do not know what will happen with the energy once it's overloaded. I don't know how it will affect you, but, um, I, I frankly think that what we're doing is worth that risk. So obviously we're here. So obviously we agree.
00:34:49
Speaker
So push forward. Let's do it. Now, we all we are in an environment now where because you're moving throughout a dreamscape city, essentially past without a trace could be beneficial in this scenario. Just so you know, I know earlier I said that it wouldn't be. So because I can do it without it costing anything, I will become invisible. OK. While we dream.
00:35:16
Speaker
You want to become invisible too? Well, none of my charges. OK. And also that invisibility does not last particularly long. I guess pass without a trace. OK. All right. So you all begin making your way through the quarry city at the center of Dal Kor. So, yeah, go give me a stealth check, everybody. Plus 10. Yep. What? Same.
00:35:47
Speaker
What? You all are cheating. I didn't. I didn't. I mean, I still got a 30, but I didn't cheat. I didn't roll 20. Or cheat. Neither did they. They just got 20s. Everything's fine here. What did we do? What did I say?
00:36:03
Speaker
Okay. Um, so y'all aren't spotted. What would you like to do with your twenties? I mean, I don't want to short circuit anything you have planned as far as just like making things easy. If it's just a matter of we're going to make a bunch of checks, I would love us to, to be exactly what I was thinking. But if you get something, man, yeah, if you got something planned, I don't want to. Oh, no, no, no, no. I like, it's just a matter of rolling more dice. Then I'd be totally fine with us.
00:36:28
Speaker
um okay so yeah you all are able to navigate bimani is able to help you with kitesh navigate the city um relatively easily um you you all are just the the quarry are kind of freaking out about the fact that their dreadnought just went down so they are very distracted is it just sort of like
00:36:47
Speaker
floating listlessly like in space. That's so horrifying. So yeah, you all are able to make your way through the alleys and streets of this city. Obviously the architecture of the city is
00:37:04
Speaker
alien and strange because humanoids don't live here. This is a city designed with the quarry in mind. So yeah, the doorways are misshapen. There aren't even really any windows underneath the buildings. It's kind of unsettling how odd this city is designed. But because of the ruckus that you caused by taking down the Dreadnought, your venture throughout the city goes unnoticed.
00:37:29
Speaker
and the money signals for all of you to stop and you all kind of see this large central courtyard that's like six steps down and it's like a large circular staircase leading to this courtyard and you see this huge
00:37:48
Speaker
arcane eldritch machine humming away. And you see boxes and crates of kyber crystals kind of surrounding it all scattered throughout this courtyard. And Bhimani regards it and says, here we are. End of episode.
00:38:11
Speaker
Um, thank you all

Conclusion and Teasers

so much for listening. I know this episode was a little bit shorter than what we normally shoot for. Uh, the dreadnought fight went really well, uh, for everybody. So, um, but I don't want to overstep into what is going to be our final session. Um, next session.

So as you're listening to this, and obviously we'll talk about this more in the weeks leading up to this episode's release, 50 members of the Patreon community, if we hit it, we will livestream the final session. So that would be a lot of fun. We'd love to do that. So talk to friends, anybody you know that listens to the show. And yeah, I encourage them to join the community because we would love to hear from them.

It's a really cool deep dive into that system. The hosts have been with the Genesis system since its inception, so go and give them a listen. Anyways, once again, thank you all so much for listening. I'm your Dungeon Master, Eric. I'm Philip. I'm Randy. I'm Jeff. We'll see you next time.
