Hey, Bramwen.

Favorite Characters from The Clone Wars S1:E15

00:00:17
Speaker
Hello. Who is your favorite character from The Clone Wars Season 1, Episode 15? It can only be Senator Choochee. Okay. She's determined, diplomatic, collaborative, all of the good things. I love her. Fair enough. Even though she's young and clearly a bit out of her comfort zone. Yeah, a bit out of her depth. I feel the comfort zone bit, not so much the young bit. Sia.
00:00:43
Speaker
Who's your favourite character from The Clone Wars Season 1, Episode 15? This time I have to go with Obi-Wan again. oh Because, you know, he needs to get up in the tally chart for a start, but also...
00:00:58
Speaker
You're not fixing the books, you? I'm not fixing the books, no. To be honest, all of these episodes that we're doing today, I could have said Obi-Wan and I didn't. Yeah, to be fair. is the one that I chose and because he's just so like lovely and diplomatic in this one and he's so calm and chill and so like, no, we're going to just broker peace much as possible and he's taking no shit. And he lets Chuchi do the business as well. Yeah. Like he gives her a moment. Well, he gives her a pep talk because he's like, it has to come from you. Yeah. Which, yeah, he's doing his mentor thing and I like it. Love him.

Introducing 'Sisters of the Force' Podcast

00:01:32
Speaker
You're listening to Sisters of the Force of Star Wars Podcast with me, Bramwen. And me, Sia. Hello. And we're here to talk about some more Clone Wars because we're on a Clone Wars journey. my gosh. We're whizzing through season It's nearly over. Yeah. One more of season one left to do. Wild. Wild. wild and wonderful.
00:01:51
Speaker
We're also joined by a lovely returning guest who we're very excited to see, the wonderful Rebecca. Good morning. Good morning both. How are you? Hi, good. Nice to see you Really good to have you back. Thank you for having me back again. Again. time. Third I'm a trilogy now. I'm a trilogy. Excellent.
00:02:13
Speaker
how have you been in have you watched uh the clone wars before or is this your first time of no this is the yeah this is the first time of dipping into it actually so i'm i'm delighted you kind of asked me to be a part of it because it gave me a very good reason to sit down and watch it because i i hadn't before and i'm glad that i now have so thank you for that i'm excited to be talking about it today and excited to be watching it yay It definitely takes you on a ride, which is, I think, part of the comfort of it. is You can just know you're going to go on a little ride and it's only 20 minutes or whatever. yeah Especially with some of these ones, I was like, how are we going to wrap this up in 20 minutes? What's going on i I thought that as well. I was like, this a lot to get through in 20 minutes. But yet, still, they did. They managed. They literally waste no seconds. Yeah. It's ridiculous. It is wild. Every little second of the show is packed with like important stuff. yeah All of it.
00:03:06
Speaker
So, Rebecca, did you have a favourite character from episode 15,

Rebecca's Take on Obi-Wan's Character

00:03:10
Speaker
Trespass? Oh, yeah. Yeah, I did. And it's the same as Sears. It's Obi-Wan in this one. yeah genuinely if you wrote right I just loved his sarcasm, calling it a tropical zone the moment he walks out. And then it was just like, oh, where's these nasty creatures? Oh, they're over on this ridge. Oh, that's where we've got to go. And everywhere was like, where's the point of danger? As always with Obi. Yeah, that's where we'll start. That's where we'll head back. And I just, know yeah, I actually, did no messing. And then again, that like you said, that diplomatic kind of played that role. And yeah, Obi-Wan for me in this one.
00:03:42
Speaker
Excellent. Love it. Love it. Yeah, talking of his line at the beginning, loved Anakin's response. I think it was his response to that where he said, it's not Tatooine, that's for sure. Yes, that's it, yeah. He did. He made me laugh. Yeah. We're in the snow rather than the sand today. get to meet these Pantorans, which have seen Pantorans before. Have we? Have we talked about Pantorans? I don't know we have. Oh, okay. My memory's terrible. In Revenge of the Sith. Either of you noticed the Pantorans in Revenge of the Sith?
00:04:15
Speaker
No. Not that I recall. Where are they? Okay, so when Anakin is going to the opera to meet with Palpatine and he's about to get his, like, you know, the tragedy of Darth Plagueis moment, right he runs up the steps and the camera kind of tracks with him as he goes, I've talked about this. Yes. Yes. And at the top of the stairs, there's two Pantorans standing in their kind of like uniform regalia, one of which is George Lucas. yeah And i think the other is his one of his daughters, yeah Katie Lucas, who in fact wrote an episode that we did last week, I think. Yeah, that's why we talked about it.
00:04:50
Speaker
Yeah, she's in it earlier on as well. She's in it when they first land back on Coruscant after the big opening Anyway, so and Lucas is playing one of the kind of you know dignitaries on Coruscant and his daughter is his daughter in the show as well, like they are father and daughter, the characters.
00:05:08
Speaker
just um And then these ones are different. They're a different family, but they've got a similar vibe in as a father with a

Pantorans in Revenge of the Sith

00:05:16
Speaker
beard. Yeah. I think he's got weird. don't know. He's got like a weird thing around his hair. I'm not sure if he's a beard or is it don't know.
00:05:24
Speaker
It's kind of weird character design, isn't it? Yeah, quite a strange character design. He's also a piece of work. Like, what is going on here? He is or yeah it's pretty awful. awful. Yeah. He's not representing Pantora at all well. No. No.
00:05:39
Speaker
a But she contrasts. I loved her so much. Yeah. i love the design of her like headdress and stuff. and Yeah, that was cool. Aside from Ahsoka, she's one of the most kind of anime, straight anime styles we've seen so far, i think. Yeah, true. I haven't thought of that. Because she's very, true I've seen many characters that look like her in anime series. Yeah. Absolutely spot on. Which is incredible design. She does look, she looks great. Her clothes are great. She's got purple hair.
00:06:07
Speaker
what more can you want? What more can you want? but So the kind of big crux of this episode is that they've been summoned to this ice planet. Yeah, ice planet thing.
00:06:20
Speaker
Well, yeah, this conf confused me. I had to look this up. So it is, a Autoplutonia, which is where they are, is an ice planet.

Autoplutonia and Pantora Conflict

00:06:27
Speaker
Yes. And Pantora, where the Pantorans are from, Is a moon. Yeah, got Orbits that planet.
00:06:32
Speaker
So it's kind of the opposite way around you you'd imagine. You'd think yeah that. The Pantorans would live on the main planet, but because it's icy, yeah. They live on the moon. Cool. But there have been this, like, problem with some clones disappearing. Yeah. And that's why they were summoned there.
00:06:47
Speaker
And throughout the episode, we gradually get the reveal of, like, these mysterious, whoever it is must be brutal and oval. They're, like, killing clones. And then then we get, like, battle droid heads on poles well. Yeah. Love the steak effect. They're not really on either side. No. Yeah, they're just neutrally killing anybody who comes to their planet, which, you know, they're defending themselves. But there is a thing with Star Wars with heads on sticks. There is, yeah. There is, yeah, absolutely. Just a few times. And no spoilers, but it's going to happen again in the Clone Wars, as we will find out. Many, many heads on sticks. It feels quite brutal. It's quite like a tribal thing almost. like ah yeah It's quite violent. Yeah, absolutely.
00:07:32
Speaker
Even with B1 heads. Even when it's a robot, yeah. It's a battle droid. It's fine. You can stick that. They basically look like that anyway. They are heads on sticks. They turn them into real statement pieces, though, don't they? Like we used to do in medieval times. It's like, yeah here's the statement entrance. Here's another statement entrance. It's kind of, there's no...
00:07:53
Speaker
There's no mess in there, is there? They've laid out their stool. You know what you're going to yeah Don't come in enough they're going to pull your head off. yeah yeah Put it on the stick. We've got plenty of sticks.
00:08:03
Speaker
There is actually quite a lot of pulling droids' heads off

Introduction to the Talz Species

00:08:06
Speaker
in these episodes. There really is. It's almost... Yeah, right yeah that but it turns out it turns out that the big enemy is actually a big cuddly white teddy bear. Yes. LAUGHTER So we've got this species called the towels. And although we're not doing this every time... oh my God! Yay! Thank you. I'm going to keep it brief. haven't been doing West End Geek Girls every time. If you're a new listener and...
00:08:37
Speaker
You don't know what that sound means? had a new listens recently. Hi, first of all. Welcome to Sisters of the Force. But we have this feature which comes in every now and again where we look at something that's featured in whatever we're covering and trace its history back to the West End Geek Girls and the West End Games. We're taking ownership of it. Role-playing game from like the late 80s and early 90s. And I couldn't not do this. We did see a towels in the cantina.
00:09:03
Speaker
know if you remember. In A New Hope, there's a shot of one yeah um in the cantina. How it ended up in the cantina, I have No idea, yeah. It must be very hot. As we're learning more about them. Yeah. But it's slightly different. They have like changed the canon a bit, unsurprisingly. But they were called Tal's, which is why I thought we'd include them, because it's often about the naming of creatures.
00:09:27
Speaker
That's where West End Games really like contributed Star Wars. yeah They originally came from a planet called Alzoc 3, according to okay them. But obviously that's not true now because they're now from autoplutonia. But they are generally peaceful, which I do think kind of ties in. Like, yes, they've been attacking people on their planet. But it's all kind of self-defense stuff, isn't it? It's their it's their planet.
00:09:50
Speaker
I get it. In West End games, they were subjugated by the Empire, very much in a kind of parallel of the Wookiees. Right, yeah, yeah. And they kept comparing them to the Wookiees because they're tall and hairy. And hairy, yeah. just Like grizzly bears and polar bears, guess. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:10:06
Speaker
But yeah, apparently Alzoc III was a rich mining planet, a mineral rich planet ready for mining. And that's why the Empire kind of subjugated them. But anyway, that was just a little mini West End girls. Oh, nice. Yeah. I really like the towels. I love their design. love their little eyes and their little, they remind me a little bit flies. They did have that face kind of thing

The Clone Wars and Real-World Colonization

00:10:28
Speaker
going on there, like flies, didn't they? But yeah, super cute all the same time. Big fluffy flies. Cute polar flies. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I kind of thought sloth to start with. And then like when you get closer up on their faces, they look quite buggy. So yeah, it's the kind of sloth both. I mean, they must have been designed way, way back. I seem to feel like I've seen some Macquarie art of them like from mid 70s. But obviously, yeah, they were designed for A New Hope. So back in the wild days of looking at the creatures in the cantina and how many weird ideas they came from.
00:11:06
Speaker
So this is essentially a colonisation issue of this is our land, no, there's people already here. And that's the thing that jumped out me, though, when watching the Clone Wars, is all of them were kind of reflective stories of the world today, weren't they? was like, oh, here we are. We've seen this in the news. Oh, great. Oh, look, evil person comes along, tries to colonise, take over an area, claim it for themselves and take all their goods. Great. Absolutely. But even like...
00:11:29
Speaker
What do they want this planet for? Like there's no... i Just ownership, wasn't it? Just ownership. Just, it's ours because it's in our orbit or whatever it was. It's in our system, that's it. Yeah. So so therefore it should be ours. Just power. feel like greed. yeah Chairman Cho personifies that. Yeah. That just absolute greed. i was trying to find other motivation, but like really is just... There isn't really one. Get off my lawn. Yeah, he's so convinced himself that this is what he has to do. And like every new bit of evidence he's given, he just kind of twists it into his own kind of motive about, no, they're definitely evil. They definitely have to be wiped out.
00:12:06
Speaker
He just likes to make an enemy. Yeah, rampant nationalism almost. Yeah, yeah. Which, yeah... There might be some parallels. Oh, this feels strangely familiar. Not in a galaxy too far, far away from where we are right here now. They don't belong on our land. But love that Obi-Wan is like, hey, you don't own this planet. He said this is for the Senate to decide. You can't just say just because your moon is next to this planet that you suddenly own this planet. Yeah, yeah.
00:12:36
Speaker
Very interesting. yeah but There was a bit where ah one of the Tals hugs Obi-Wan and I wrote down that I wouldn't mind a Tals hug. Yeah, that'd be quite nice. yeah yeah too like They do look great. 3PO had some good bits in this episode, which yeah he doesn't always have like good 3PO moments, like actually doing his job, but he was doing his job He was doing his job. he was doing... Not only was he doing his job and doing it well, we've seen him a couple of times in these episodes doing his job, which is yeah quite nice. Yeah, he was getting a bit angry at one point. And he didn't want to say what what the chairman was trying to make him say either. He was very like, no, this is a bad idea. absolutely.

Discussion on 'The Hidden Enemy' Episode

00:13:20
Speaker
Yeah. That's the tough part of being a translator as well, isn't In that sense, in those kind of very heightened moments. that i Yeah, actually. don't want to. No, I don't want to.
00:13:31
Speaker
I wanted to talk about their creatures. Oh, yeah. What are their creatures, please? I couldn't find that out. Do you know? They are called narglatches. Oh, nice. Which is all great name. Narglatchers. Narglatchers, yeah. Narglatchers, wow.
00:13:49
Speaker
They were great. Yeah, they're felines. Carnivorous felines considered sacred by the Tals. Nice. Apparently, they also exist on Naboo and the planet Onderon, which is where Saw Gerrera comes from. Okay. I think they were in the bestry. I kind of went and looked them up.
00:14:06
Speaker
think there was more info in the bestry than there was on Wikipedia. Yeah. Yeah, they're kind of like blue big blue ice lions, which is kind of cool. Yeah. I love them. I love the sound design of them and the Tals vocalisations as well. All of that. Yeah. It's kind of just, it was all just very pleasing. Yeah. Pleasing on the ear. Yeah. Love that. They talked a bit about in the behind the scenes clips, they talked about um Macquarie's Hoth concept artwork, which you did for Empire Strikes Back. which was very saturated. And if you look at those like early drawings or paintings, they were, I guess, it is very rich in colour, which for a snow planet is kind of interesting. There's lots of blue skies.
00:14:43
Speaker
But with this, they wanted to go more desaturated and stylised. So they went with ice rather than snow, subtle difference. But it did give it a little bit more of a bleak feel yeah than Hoth, in a way, although Hoth is pretty bleak. yeah And they also talked about the animation of the the little details, like the breath coming out of the character's mouths, which hadn't noticed until I rewatched after the behind the scenes. was like, my gosh. That is very impressive, really, isn't it? yeah It's a really hardcore kind of situation because you've got the chairman inciting violence and actually having a battle.
00:15:19
Speaker
And then they all get dropped kind of in the middle of it. And I just kind of, I was thinking this is so bleak that now this young senator has to walk through this battlefield. Yeah.
00:15:32
Speaker
It was all pretty hardcore for a kids show. was yeah For a six plus rated show. i love that. I mean, I don't love, but I feel it was fair that Cho gets yeah taken down by yeah and ends up coming a cropper the situation and she gets to shine. i loved her line at the end, to die for one's people is a great sacrifice. To live for one's people is an even greater sacrifice. face yeah which is oh we need that yeah we need that energy oh yeah the snowfall okay so like they they paste the snowfall throughout the episode to mark story points which is no way i'd noticed what behind the scene but the moment when they sort of solve the problem and she like recognizes the towels as the sovereigns of auto plutonia the snowfall starts to fall gently
00:16:20
Speaker
And it's like, everything everything's gone peaceful. Everything's okay. i did not notice that. I love animation. good. That's clever. That is clever. And yeah, something that you can't really do a live action. Not very easily, no. I'm just going to affect how the snow falls now.
00:16:39
Speaker
Yeah, lovely episode. Let's move on. Let's crack on. Let's do it. to one hundred and six. call him 116, but yeah, season one, episode 16. Season one, episode 16. The hidden enemy.
00:16:52
Speaker
Yeah. Okay. So we're jumping back in time now, aren't we? Because this is just before Ahsoka turns up. Yes. So this is before the film. Yeah, so if you've not watched the Clone Wars movie, which is the kind of kickoff of the whole show, but none of the timeline is necessarily in order of the show because it's an anthology, they can dip in and out. In fact, I think the whole of season six is all like back at random times. Okay. It's very, yeah, very anthology. I was like, wait, we're pre-Ahsoka at this point. Good. I know. Is this the second Battle of Christophsis? Oh, It's before the first one. It's before the first one, yeah.
00:17:31
Speaker
which we we There's one really great visual clue, which, again, I wouldn't have noticed if hadn't watched the behind the scenes, but at the end, Asajj is running for her ship, and it's the ship that she gets rotter. Yeah, yeah. I spotted that. Yes. Blush, you're way more observer than I am.
00:17:51
Speaker
Anyway, Rebecca, do you have a favourite character from Hidden Enemy?

Ventress as a Favorite Character

00:17:55
Speaker
Oh, right. I was a bit torn on this, but I'm going to go for Ventress. Yeah. million yeah I kind of was like just that kind of look when she arrives with Obi between them then she does her little ballet, come and get me boys. Yes.
00:18:15
Speaker
I just kind of, you know, she didn't feature a hugely in that episode, but towards the end, I just ah i just thought she was great in it. was a It was a moment. I'll tell you what, when she was on screen, she... She owned it. I wrote loads of notes about every little that she made. When she leaps up the stairs and yeah near the end, when she lands on that, like, tri-whatever they're called, tri-droid. and it's just balancing there she's just so cool it's very cool it's like her her sort of fighting skills you know it's all based on sort martial arts and dance as well but hers of her dance fighting yeah does go into the realms of sort of ballet and you know it's it really does so she just has this different vibe that she brings with her when it comes to that and uh yeah i just she was my favorite for that one definitely
00:19:02
Speaker
Nice. I also went for Ventress. Ha ha. Did you? So we've matched so far. We've matched so far. It's a game of snap. I love it. I reckon Ventress must be doing pretty well. Ventress is doing pretty well, actually. She's getting a lot of pics. We do love her. She's getting lots of attention. Mostly from Obi-Wan.
00:19:26
Speaker
His looks, though. I mean, I love that in the animation, they don't drop the kind of looks that ah an adult would go hee-hee at. You know, it's so great. So far, he's called her my sweet, and I think in a previous episode, darling. Yeah, dear my darling. He calls her darling a few times.
00:19:41
Speaker
I think he did it in this as well. He called her my sweet and my darling in this one. And she said something. What did she say? The pleasure's all mine, dear Obi-Wan. Yeah, yeah. Obi-Wan saying, I'm here. I thought this mission would be unpleasant. Yeah. it's like He just loves seeing her. See, I nearly went for him again because I was like, he's just he's just great. But then I was like, no, Ventress cinches it this time.
00:20:07
Speaker
She just seals the deal, doesn't she? Bramwen, who did you go for? I struggled as well to pick somebody out of all of it because I loved all of it. But I think Cody I went for. Cody. Yeah. Partly because I never have, but if you watch him, him and Rex are obviously working together and we love Cody and Rex. They're like the dynamic duo. We often see them together, even though they're part of different, I don't know if you've you've kind of come across Cody and Rex before, Rebecca, but like Cody is part of Obi-Wan's thing and Rex is part of Anakin's. Yeah. They like have respective commanders, yeah but we often see them together because Anakin and Obi-Wan are often together. Yeah. I thought Cody was really, like he just did some really cool things in this kind of, like, cat and mouse thing of, like, trying to discover it was. He was the one that took the charge out of the blaster so that yeah yeah and left the blast on the table on purpose, all of those kind of things. He was just quite shrewd and i loved it. He was very resourceful, wasn't he? He was. That's the word I'm looking for. Yeah. He discovered the comlink had been left on when they having the meeting and talking about who it might be.
00:21:11
Speaker
he noticed that the comic had been left on which like helped them to figure out what was going on i loved this episode spending time with cody and rex it was really nice to yeah see more of them and just have their dynamic and it must be quite interesting for the voice actor yes d brandy baker as always just having conversations himself yeah He's so good. I just love him. Because, i mean, in this he had like the four or five other clones. Yeah, yeah, yeah. There was a full interrogation that is all Dee Bradley Baker. It's all Dee Bradley Baker. This episode I was like, oh, we're going down the...
00:21:51
Speaker
Yes. spy root yes is this going to be challenging when everybody looks the same to work out who who who did this and i spotted him ah a little bit different looks i thought this is going to be a challenge i mean i i was hoping it wasn't going to be mistaken identity Not a fan of that storyline.
00:22:12
Speaker
They all know, though. Yeah. The clones all know who each other are. Like, even if we don't, the clones do. That's true. That is very true. We talked about this in the Rookies episode a while ago where we saw, like, some brand new clones and they all look really, really,

Clone Individuality and Teamwork

00:22:25
Speaker
really really similar. yeah Because it's only once they've been in the field for a certain amount of time they develop their own personal style and haircuts and tattoos and, like, all of the things that differentiate. but I feel like these must have been fairly earlier on. So it slicks squads so the yeah slick was Slick seemed to be the head of them. yeah And several of them all had exactly the same hair. They were really, really similar. It was their facial hair that kind of made them different. Yeah.
00:22:48
Speaker
Yeah. It's a bit like um Guess Who, the game, where it's like, do you want to play your hand on a moustache? Does he have a tattoo? Yeah, i it really was like Cody and Rex's story, like Anakin and Obi-Wan were there and Asajj was there, but Asajj was there just to like get Anakin and Obi out of the way, you know, to do his thing.
00:23:08
Speaker
She was just a big distraction. So that we could have this clone story, yeah. yeah but but So we yeah, we get like the Rex and and Cody doing their literal investigation. Yeah.
00:23:19
Speaker
it was quite intense. We found out some things about clones and the thing with the one where he's like keeps the fingers of the battle droids. Which is a good name for him if he's chopping off fingers. Yeah, I wonder if... I hadn't thought of that. What I loved about that as well was that kind of sense of I've chopped off droid fingers, but the reaction to that was like it chopped off human or yeah live in living species fingers rather than droids. It was like, and I was like, I spit metal. Is this really that much? I was scrap mess and oh wont ruin in it yeah, this is not a wookie finger. What's going on here? Why are we reacting? so But it was that kind of, you do not do that, which I quite liked. don't take things off the battlefield. You don't take things. Yeah. and It was that kind of rules and rules.
00:24:03
Speaker
I just love the reaction to it because I was just seeing yeah these chunks of metal on a ring, a bit of scrap. It's like, oh no, you can't possibly do that. yeah I did love a line in this episode.
00:24:16
Speaker
yeah Yeah. Which is an insult that I want to use frequently whenever I can. Yeah. Just, I know we've heard it before. But it just really popped in this episode. I think it was Anakin that said it, it ah called somebody rank weed.
00:24:31
Speaker
Piece of rank weed. Piece of rank weed. Piece rank weed. And I was like, that's great. You can't get told off for saying that. But at the same time, it's like brilliant. It's pretty insulting. Yeah, it's pretty insulting. Exactly. thought that's the right tone. It's pretty insulting, but you can't really get told off a piece of rank weed. I thought that was great. It just popped out to me.
00:24:50
Speaker
I think it was Rex chasing the slick. Yeah. They nearly got him. Yeah. I knew who it was by that point. Rex is Anakin's second in command, so that kind of makes sense that they'd insult people the same way. They are quite parallel. They are very parallel. Rex definitely picks stuff from Anakin.

Speaker
There was some good stuff in the behind the scenes. Filoni mentioned the idea that this was about a clone going a bit Django. Yeah. Which we talked about in our clones episode with Mary where they kept some of Django's things, but not all of Django's things. So they kept his physical prowess and his dexterity or whatever, but they took out some of his personality traits when they were doing gene splicing and everything. So the clones weren't Django-ish in that way, but clearly there's going to be some genetic glitches. Slick had a lot of incredibly good points, and I was kind of like, well, I do actually see his side of this.
00:25:46
Speaker
And yeah all the the clones' reaction to him was very like, oh my gosh, I can't believe you've done this, you've betrayed, blah, blah. And like, yeah, I understand that, but also... Slick out of point. You're slaves to this war.
00:26:00
Speaker
And who's to say that you shouldn't have a life of your own and not fight? you know it's pretty yeah It was quite interesting. This is what i love about the Clone Wars is that it does make you think.

Reflection on Real-World Issues in The Clone Wars

00:26:10
Speaker
And it's all that stuff we were talking about with dr Chris Kempshaw's book, you know where who are we seeing the Clone Wars yeah Whose eyes are we seeing it through? Yeah. And we also know it's a big manipulation. It's a huge intrigue. It's palpteen pulling the strings through the whole thing. It's just playing around with people and, yeah slick, sore through the matrix kind of thing. yeah, yeah. Before I worked out that it was a spy story and a spy episode, I did think, is this something about them working out that there's someone higher up?
00:26:39
Speaker
Oh, right. That feeding information. So I was like, are we unravelling, slightly hinting at Palpatine plot here? I think in a very, very small way, yeah. I think you're right. I think it is. By what we're saying about what Slick says towards the end.

Slick's Perspective on Clone Morality

00:26:53
Speaker
It's not quite chip malfunctioning level of intrigue, but it is a questioning of the intrigue. Yeah. Which this early on is is pretty cool to see. i'd forgotten this I'd forgotten all about this episode because it's very much a bottle episode. It's just on Christophsis. It's in two buildings. you know yes Also, notable moments here, ziplining on your blaster from a tower to a tower. yeah Oh, yeah. I was like, this is great. Ziplining on your blaster. Absolutely wild. Yeah. yeah
00:27:23
Speaker
So cool. ah That whole sequence of Anakin using his saber to cut a cross in the window. yeah. and So just to help make the window easier to fall out. It's so cool.
00:27:34
Speaker
It's so good. And the whole, this is why I nearly went for Obi-Wan again, because the snips between Anakin and Obi-Wan as they're on a battlefield again. It's just like, this man is relentless. Yeah.
00:27:49
Speaker
They originally, because this is quite a bottle episode, they didn't have to do much new character design. They they had everybody, you know, they didn't have to build any new models or anything. So they spent more of the time and budget on the base.
00:28:00
Speaker
And it started off as two huts, but then turned into this massive complex with multiple towers and everything. And you know the dining room that they hit the mess hall at one point where the clones were? It's an exact replica of the Big Rock Ranch dining room, which is the building that they built at Skywalker Ranch to do the animation stuff in. It's the house they took over. That's cool. I think it's just next to Skywalker Ranch. The more I watch it, the behind the scenes, the more there are so many little Easter eggs off of the real world. Yeah. From character names to designs. Yeah, definitely. Love it. Love that. We've also got a really, really beautiful shot of when they do the bait and switch to catch Slick. Yeah. There's that really, really gorgeous moment where they're all, all three clones are in a line, all pointing blasters at each other. Yeah. This is so good. That's so satisfying. think that was the moment that sold me on Cody. I loved Cody. He was just, oh, cool. And so like, yeah, got ya. Got ya.
00:28:59
Speaker
Good fun. Anybody got anything else about this one? I thought aesthetically it was quite interesting as well. Out of all the episodes, this one, i really enjoyed like that turquoise yeah kind of. Then with the blue and red blasters, there was something visually that I found. It wasn't like lots of colour, but it was just that mix of those colours.
00:29:20
Speaker
that I just found very aesthetically pleasing. and i yeah I'm not even sure there's any meaning behind any of that, but it just um I just really enjoyed watching that colour-wise. They were they'd kept it simple, but really effective, I thought, on that one. Definitely like a colour palette. You could imagine they had like a colour palette of this episode. It would be really like simple and combined.

Naboo's Musical and Visual Design

00:29:42
Speaker
I think they've upped the visuals since, because the Clone Wars movie, the first part of it is set on Christophsis, and it's the battle that is about to happen there. They did show more of it, because obviously it was the movie. I spen think they spent it a little longer there. And you saw like a view of the planet from space, which is a blue planet. And it's all these blue crystals, which at first was like, are they buildings? Because it looks like a cityscape, but think it's bare crystals. Yeah.
00:30:06
Speaker
but I feel like they ramped up that colour thing that you were talking about for this episode. Yeah, for this bit. I recognised it even before they said the name of the planet. I was like, oh, we've been here before. that's Brilliant. but That's really good. Yeah, it's good.
00:30:18
Speaker
Which is not normal for me. I mean, it was quite a few weeks ago now and we've watched a lot Clone Wars in the meantime. There was some nice colour stuff to do with Asajj and the tactical droid that she's talking to at one point. And they've got this blue and grey colour scheme. So they're kind of are fitting into the to the overall colour scheme, but it's like a sort of a side branch of it with this yeah blue and grey thing. I keep meaning to notice if Asajj is always the same, you know, like how characters often wear the same stuff. like I mean, in Vader, obviously, he's always going to be wearing his black armor, but most characters have like their kind of wardrobe that maybe changes a little bit like Rey in the sequels. You know, each film, she's got a different permutation.
00:31:01
Speaker
And I feel like Asajj is similar, that like she's not always quite the same, but i think that's something to track. Yeah. Asajj's outfits. Check out what Asajj's wearing. Love Yeah. All right. Well, talking of blue, yeah shall we move on episode 17? The blue shadow virus. We're going back to Naboo.
00:31:22
Speaker
So these two episodes were originally, they weren't going to be two. They were just going to be the first one. But then they got so into it, I think. Yeah, yeah, yeah. That's fair. Also, it needed a wrap up.
00:31:34
Speaker
It did need a wrap up. It needed a sequel. Yeah. Yeah. Episode 17, Sia, who was your favourite character of blue shadow virus? Oh! oh my god Obi-Wan was such a close second this time. I thought you were going to pick him again. i do I didn't. I thought I have to branch out a little bit. I mean, you can. You can. There's no rules. I can. I went for Pepe Bao, actually.
00:31:58
Speaker
Yeah, same. Yeah, I thought so. Just having a female Gungan. That was it, yeah. Of all the Gungans we saw in The Phantom Menace, I don't remember seeing female. think we saw many female ones. No, no. And she was like uber cool. She was absolutely the opposite of Jar Jar. Yeah. She's very cool, very helpful. Yeah.
00:32:17
Speaker
lush character design they talked a lot about that in the behind the scenes of trying to make her yeah like easy on the eye which for a gungan you know jar jar is jar jar we love him but he's not most like aesthetically obviously pleasing but she was pretty cool i liked her yeah she was wicked she's she's very pink yeah very pink yeah pink gungans So I wonder if all female Gungans are pink and all the males are kind of that. Maybe. But I did like her. I don't recall if we ever meet another one as well. She might be the only female Gungan. She's busy. Or perhaps all the rest them are like the Entwives, that they've lost the Entwives and they can't remember what they look like. Okay, Rebecca, who is your favourite character?
00:33:09
Speaker
I've got to go for Doctor, is it Nouveau Vindy? Doctor Vindy. Yeah, Nouveau Vindy. Doctor Nouveau Vindy, yeah, it is his name. I just, it's just like the complete caricature. of an evil science doctor. Complete like hamdab. It's like, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, that kind of intense mania. It was like you could have pulled him out of a James Bond film. You could have put him anywhere really in any film of any archetypal, stereotypical evil doctor. He's like the Nancy Doctor. He's like the Narc-Dog. I loved the consistency of evilness across all types of these stereotypes doctors, but he was kind of so manic and so kind of like into it. And just when he was just repeating the yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Great. So voiced by Michael York, who in our... Right, okay, little bit of a sneaky peek of what's coming up in our next batch of Journeys into Wild Space. We're doing...
00:34:10
Speaker
a watch of Logan's Run with some of our really good friends. And Logan's Run stars Michael York as Logan 5, I think he is, one of Logan's anyway. So we had a little Michael York tie-in. course, we're not just throwing these jennies into our space together. It's all themed. It's all themed, kind of.
00:34:29
Speaker
I did go on a bit of ah a Dr. Vindi deep dive. Did you? Tell me about him. Part of which was just my own brain and part of it was actual. like So my brain deep dive was Nouveau Vindi. Yes. Is that like a really rough translation of new wind? Like Nouveau in Spanish is new. Yeah. new Or Portuguese, is it I'm not sure. No. And Vindy is not actually wind, but the fact that he pronounces his Vs as Ws, if you flip that, then Vind becomes wind. I think that's Wint. Wint is German for wind, maybe. Anyway, yeah because he's trying to convert a waterborne virus into an airborne virus. So he's making new wind. Yeah. I see what did there, overthinking this. Clever, okay. I think their character naming, they do do things like that. But then the actual research is about Faust, which I'm not very well read in the classics. But Faust is a German legend who made a deal with the devil at the crossroads for power and material gain. yeah And it feels like he's kind of sold his soul. And his race is Faust, and he comes from the planet Faust. So I don't think that's an accident. knowing the way they do stuff in the story group i'm sure they did that all on purpose he's this kind of faustian he's just living for the moment he doesn't care about anything doesn't care he just cares about his science doesn't he and he makes that interesting point about well this is a life form too and you wiped it out so i'm bringing it back and you're like we desks making us think Yeah. Do know do we think that's okay? Our antibiotics, you know, they're killing living, yeah. Yeah, what's the thing here? Not sure about that, but okay, I'll i'll roll with it Especially that episode in the last batch that we watched with the the super weapon that kills all organic stuff. Yeah.
00:36:23
Speaker
Wild. It's a similar thing of like, well, what constitutes, I mean, I know there's the thing about sapience. Yeah. Do fish feel pain? You know, all of that stuff is, yeah oo I love the Clone Wars. i love So he was originally designed for one of the prequels apparently, but he never got into it. Okay. so Which happens a lot in Star Wars, like when they've got 3D models, like ships from Mando end up in Skeleton 1. That didn't happen, but that like that kind of thing yeah where they keep stuff often from the films, stuff that got designed. I think with the films, they go through much longer design processes and they've got more budget. So there's going to be lots left over that then they can nick in the TV shows.
00:37:04
Speaker
Yeah, that makes sense. So we're going back to Naboo. We've got Padme, we've got Jar Jar, we've got C-3PO. All of the Naboo nostalgia. And we meet the new queen. We go to the hangar bay. It's all really lovely. The hangar bay, which was like recreated. Okay, so Filoni said when they were trying to build the hangar bay models, they found this problem because the Naboo fighters have got those long tail fins and they want the fighters to be like spaced around the outside of the hangar. But because of the tail fins, they can't be that close to the wall. Yeah. So we went and chatted to John Knoll, who did loads of work on The Phantom Menace. And John Knoll was like, we had the same problem. And he explained how they'd made these little holes in the wall in The Phantom Menace that you'll never see. The next time watch, going to be looking for them
00:37:49
Speaker
Where the tail fins kind of go into the wall. Oh, clever. Just so they can be backed in closely and more out of the way kind of thing. wild design but it was so beautiful to see again there was a lush sunset shot of like the oh it was just 3po's got one of the most relatable lines i've ever heard him say yeah oh me too it's my highlighted line where he says i would like to shut down before i get sensory
00:38:20
Speaker
After our weekend, Sia and I, okay, you're listening to this in two weeks in the future from now, but Sia and I went to Force Fest in Sheldon this weekend, which was Sensory overload. out to Force Fest. But it was sensory overload. Yeah. Brilliant. To lie down and stare at a wall for a while. needed to go for a lie down afterwards. It was amazing. It so much fun.
00:38:40
Speaker
They're great though. They're full on, aren't they? But they're great. You know, those types of events. like a but Yeah. Very relatable line then from C-3PO there. Yeah. good I was like I feel like that all the time that's just described my whole experience of like when I come home after working a long day of facilitating stuff yeah I can't but I also did love the response no no yeah but that it feels like that doesn't it because you come home and you're like I just need to shut down and then no you've got to do the dishes yeah whatever else yeah I think I
00:39:13
Speaker
You've watch four episodes of Wars. You've got to four episodes of Clone Wars at midnight because you neglected to do it earlier. I feel like there was also like a sort of hidden message there for young people watching it who might coin that phrase and say to their parents that I just, or whoever they're with, I'm sorry, I've got sensory overload, I just need stop right now. And it was kind of then giving the control back to the adult in the room and going, no, not now, later. You know, we need you right now, but later you can do that. Yeah. Yeah, but he also says he has a bad feeling

C-3PO's Relatable Sensory Overload

00:39:45
Speaker
and then he talks about the sensory overload. So... Is it that? Droid feelings, like what is that? Yeah, is it that thing about the memory wipe thing? Like they build up too much stuff in their memory. And then it needs to be wiped. Yeah. Your hard drive needs be defragmented, you know? Yeah.
00:40:02
Speaker
But also it's kind of in response to watching them rip apart another droid. So it's quite like... That's sawing off his head. 3PO is quite sensitive, really, isn't he? He is. For a droid.
00:40:13
Speaker
What was that droid do? Because he was there sawing and I was expecting like... Did he just take the top of his head off? I couldn't quite work it out. I think he did. I think he like jump-started him. got a bit obsessed with it. Yeah. I was a bit like he's there with this great big... Yeah. And then I was like, what bits... As he sort of sat up then and started talking, I like, what bits missing? So that droid is a tactical droid, which are one of the droids that control or at least give orders to the battle droids. We see them like throughout the Clone Wars quite... injur I don't think they ever popped up in live action yet, but we've seen in the Clone Wars a bit. They drive tanks. Yeah. They've got more brains than the B-1s in the... i mean, not actual brains, obviously, but they're fed with more information. Right. Yeah. So...
00:40:53
Speaker
Whenever they're captured, I think more than once we've seen one have it had taken off and then be jacked into... Yeah, because they get them for information, yeah. Yeah. yeah yeah They're like trying to use them to find out what the separatists are about to be doing.
00:41:06
Speaker
So I think that was all that was happening. was just like trying to recover information. Because it had been shot as well, so they were trying to revive it yeah to enough so that they could get the information out of it. Of what was actually going on, yeah. Yeah.
00:41:17
Speaker
That was when we saw a Jar Jar having a fun with the bug. it was like which I the blue bug was going to be something to do with the blue shadow virus, but I don't think it was. No, so the was just telling them where the lab was because Jar Jar happened to know where the bugs come from.
00:41:31
Speaker
So useful, sneaky bit of information about snacks, which, fair play. I mean, Guided by Snacks is generally my way of life. Guided by Snacks is another good band name that's going in the roster. Excellent.
00:41:50
Speaker
So out in the plains, first of all, my mum said, it's the Shire. There's like a folk whistle, yeah like Celtic pipe theme, which is very like. Naboo's music is very Shire-ish. Yeah. shire And there was the big stone statue head thing, which I think we did see in the Phantom Menace. Yeah, it's on the grasslands, isn't it?
00:42:11
Speaker
Yeah, it's a bit like the Thai Buddha statue. But apparently they're called elders and they were the original settled race of Naboo before the next wave, kind of ah like the Naboo that we know. this was like the pre-Cozone. Apparently they were full sensitive.
00:42:27
Speaker
of course I don't know where that information comes from. Interesting. Yeah. But hidden beneath the lovely grassland this wild lab. I am creating life. Allow me to present the return of the blue shadow virus. That's the way he says virus. So insulting to all Germans. German people, I apologise for Dr. Vindy's accent. It was on the edge, wasn't it, really? Thank you. It was a little. To be fair, pretty much every new species or race that we come across in Star Wars has a regional accent of some kind. Yeah, yeah, yeah. The ones from the first episode had kind of New Zealand-y accents. Oh, South African-y. South African, yeah. South African-y sometimes. The Pantorans, yeah.
00:43:18
Speaker
There's always like, that's how we make them a different species or different It's just like, they're from a different country in the world. They're from different accent. Speaking English. Yeah. Which I guess, you know basic is the a equivalent of English, is the common language. Yeah. Not say that English necessarily is the common language in the the UK, but in the West, I guess, is the most spoken. but anyway Yeah, makes sense.
00:43:40
Speaker
Classic. I love that Padme instantly went, we need some Jedi, can I please have Anakin and Obi-Wan? Oh, and Obi. And actually backed it up with, we need Obi-Wan because the Gungans like him. That's true, yeah. yeah Which is why he was nearly my favourite character. Well, no, he was nearly my favourite character because he stays so chill throughout the entire thing. does. Anakin's losing his And Obi-Wan's just like, no, we're going to be really, really calm about this and play it really nice and cool. And then he saves Ahsoka, which we were tracking Ahsoka saves because Ahsoka does a lot of saving of Anakin and Obi-Wan, but he jumps in and saves her this time. I love the Ahsoka-Peppy team-up thing. Yeah. Yeah. There was a bit where they hollowed to Anakin and Obi, and they were only in the same thing, but the hollow feed was very, very glitchy. I mean, I know hollows are always glitchy, but it was exceptionally... Really glitchy. And I figured that they're just they're in a rural place. They've only got one bar of signal. Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's just a bit glitchy. Soka has this whole, I'm fine too, by the way. Is that this episode or the next one? Because Anakin's asking how Padme is. Yeah, yeah. These two episodes are slightly blaring for me. I'm not quite sure. They are blaring, yeah. I'm like, but where we They are the same story, yeah. Yeah.
00:45:00
Speaker
Shall we go on to the second one? Because second one, I really loved the second one. I mean, I loved all four these episodes. They were really fun. Just before we do, honourable mentions. My favourite piece of sound design is that little Lepdroid yells at and just bad me. And just screams at her. That was a good moment. Makes her run away. And I love lep droids anyway, but this one is hilarious. He has a lot to do in the next episode as well. He does have a lot to I don't think we've ever heard them scream like that before. No, don't think we've ever heard one making noise. No, I don't think... There was another good bit sound design when Dr. Vindy... I can't remember who was talking about, said, they arrived quicker than I would have thought. And as he's talking, he's putting airtight helmet on. And his voice changes halfway through the line. love those details. Clever. Clever, clever. So...
00:45:53
Speaker
clever clever so Mystery of the Thousand Moons. Yeah. Okay, so Mystery of the Thousand Moons, but everywhere everywhere I've seen stuff written about it is talking about the Mystery of a Thousand Moons. A Thousand Moons. Okay. So I think it's it varies from place to place. Okay, cool. Which is interesting. don't know why. Well, I wrote it directly off the episode title. though That's exactly what I did as well. was like, Mystery of eight Thousand Moons. So, yeah, George Lucas loved Blue Shadow Virus and that's why we got a sequel to it.
00:46:30
Speaker
He often did that, apparently. This is a sequel, but he often would be like, oh, can we have a bit more of that? And I feel like that's possibly what happened with Christophsis. He loved it in the movie and he was like, can we have a bit more? Let's go back. Let's find prequel. Let's do what Star Wars does and just change everything. Timeline. What is timeline? Who needs a timeline? Who needs a timeline? It's quite tense episode. There's like lot of peril, a lot of stakes. We've got Anakin. Anakin is very attached to both Padme and Ahsoka. Yes, they're both in peril. Anakin in this episode, obsessed.
00:47:04
Speaker
op Obsessed. obsessed like he literally just like he usually is anyway right but in this one he was just like but yeah it was just um every every single line was about her her her yeah and it was just he kind of upped the ante even on his own self with the obsession rates on it yeah yeah Because I think in the past when we've seen him do this kind of thing, he always corrects himself afterwards and like yeah rescues the obviousness of it. But I think by the like the peak of this episode, he'd stop bothering with that even. it was just
00:47:39
Speaker
He's just trying desperately to get back to it, which understandable. Yeah, totally. yeah yeah so There's the subtle callback in this episode of the first time he met Padme when she walked into Watto's junk

Anakin's Emotional Callback on Yego

00:47:50
Speaker
shop. The angels! you an angel? And he said, are you an angel from the moons of Diego? And here we are back there for And he meets an angel.
00:47:58
Speaker
And he meets an angel while he's trying to say Padme, who is his angel. It's just like poetry. It rhymes. Yeah. That was my note, was Anakin's just met an angel. What? Yeah. That was a really bizarre sequence. I was like, this is weird. The ragtag bunch of creatures and things that are on Yego is quite impressive. It is. Yeah, the Yego sort settler, Remainers, they're trapped there. Yeah.
00:48:27
Speaker
They're all led by this kid who i really enjoy, J-Bo. j J-Bo Hood. What a great Star Wars name. J-Bo Hood. J-Bo Hood. So while we're here, who else had J-Bowhood as their favourite character? Yes, I did. Yes, you did. no i but I partly did because i almost did another Western Geek Girls because in the rulebook, like the very first rulebook, they give you a load of character templates that you can choose from to like get you started. And one of them is the kid in quotes. Oh. In my memory, he the kid picture, which was actually in the second edition rather than the first edition, they give you a picture of the kid and he does look a bit like J-Bo. And I thought he was very, very, very like J-Bo. yeah So I thought this is a West End Games reference. I think it probably is, but the character of the kid in the book, in the West End Games, like Rogue One game, is not so self-sufficient, not so clever. He was more just an annoying kid that hangs around him. wants to be part of the rebellion and everything else so it's a little bit different but there was a thing but yeah did you pick him then see i did yeah i picked him rebecca no i didn't oh who did you go for well this is tricky because actually i had two favorites in the last episode which meant i just sneakily rolled one into this one even though i like it only made a very small appearance in the beginning of this episode i thought well it's still there so actually it was the droid that you were talking about earlier the leptroid right yeah definitely count just right at the beginning the whole kind of bomb and i've never really chosen i mean there's the obvious droids isn't there along the way in the in star wars but um this one just The fact that he scream her and he was running around this bomb. it was just And it was just this kind of singular mission, I've got to protect this bomb. i just thought it was the droid for me this time around. Excellent. I like it. So I rolled It literally only appeared at the beginning of this particular episode, but I thought, well, it's still in it. So I'm going to play my two from the one before. That works. Well done. He played an important role in this episode because he's the one that kept the virus you know alive a way.
00:50:35
Speaker
Or as a threat, because they'd removed all of the things from the bombs, but this one was still there. He does have a full name. I'm trying to find him. Is is it just called a general purpose droid? No, he's got an actual title.
00:50:49
Speaker
you know what I labelled him as? Oh, yeah. The rabbit-eared droid. Yes. That's what I call them. I did not know. And I could have looked it up online, but i just I wouldn't have that. And I thought, I bet Sia and Bradman will mention this before I do with the correct title. And alas, you did. so He is a Lep droid.
00:51:08
Speaker
um He's Lep... bear with. your info, Rebecca, we've got these books, which are really helpful. The character encyclopedia, Clone Wars character encyclopedia, Join the Battle, and they are just so good. There's just like little bits of info about each character. oh that's great. And all of the characters that are featured in the Clone Wars are in here. Sometimes you have to look Because they're kind of grouped quite weirdly. Yeah, they are. Right, okay. I found him. He's called Lep 86C8. Nice. Of course.
00:51:39
Speaker
And he's a Lep series service droid, and he has no allegiance apart from to Nouveau Vindy. Brilliant. Yeah. but Yeah. That makes sense. They are very like neutral droids. Like I called them general purpose earlier on. They do all sorts of things for all sorts of people. And yeah, it's kind of cool.
00:51:55
Speaker
I love that chose that droid. I nearly chose Obi-Wan again, but you know, J-Bo cinched it just for just for being like kid genius is why he cinched it for me, I think. like I loved that. I loved his like little army of you know droids, repurposed droids. He's painted faces on them. he' yeah He's got a hammock. Great. One of them is like programmed to play reggae to him. yeah He's got the two Vulture droids suspending the hammock. Yeah, yeah.
00:52:26
Speaker
And he uses them to rock him. Great. I did think it was great, but... Yeah. For me, yeah. No, not this one. yeah And he does help my homeboys out of trouble very well. Yeah, he does, to be fair. yeah that's my other thing about He's kind of a callback, like his the link with Anakin, because Anakin is immediately like, ooh, how did you do this? yeah yeah And it reminds us of Anakin at that age, which again ties into the whole Yego opening line of Anakin.
00:52:53
Speaker
Are you an angel? Yeah. yeah He had a great line, 50 of the best star pilots in the galaxy have tried. 50 tried, 50 died. so yeah Yeah, that was And he's just so chill about the whole thing as well. He's so like, well, I live here and I've repurposed all these droids. I've got a warehouse full of them and I'll just do what like. Yeah, just making the rest out of this. Audacious child. Yeah. And also he's like, he's, was just going to say, it's that kind of like young energy, but old wise man vibes of, I've seen it all before. 50 years. 50 gone. So that's why I chill about it. I know what's going to happen. What shame. What a shame these ones are going to get. Which was contrasted with the old Coran, Amit Noloff was his name. Cursed we are. The planet is cursed. I feel like...

J-Bo is possibly almost a bit disappointed the fact that Anakin and Obi-Wan, the kind of climax of the episode, they break the barrier, the the kind of like electricity net thing that's keeping the people up on the moon.
00:53:56
Speaker
And I think a lot of those other aliens and and people who are living there would be happy and they would get off the planet and they would go and do whatever they were doing before they got trapped there. But I feel like J-Bo might even be a bit like, well... He was living his best life there, yeah. I mean, he did say about like how they were left to rot since the Separatists left and the spice trade kind of dried up and all that. But I think, yeah, like you say, he he was having a good time. He's become feral. Yeah.
00:54:21
Speaker
yeah And now he's going to have to go back to school. yeah exactly But there's nothing they can teach him because he knows it all. Because he already knows how to reprogram battle droids, yeah. but And vulture droids. There was lots of peril. I loved back on Naboo, you've kind of got these two storylines going on. Obviously, we've got Padme and Ahsoka have been infected. Padme is super chill about being infected. She was really relaxed about it, wasn't she? she's She's made her peace with, yeah. Yeah, she's just like, and she even tells Anakin not to open the bunker as well. She's very much like, no, don't.
00:54:55
Speaker
Don't say that to Anakin. Like, they're ratcheting Anakin up any more than already is. Yeah, yeah, yeah, there he is. Yeah. He's already quite on edge at this point. Visually, I loved the effects of the forest on Ahsoka and Palme. Yeah, they turned blue. They looked really rough. And I know there was a lot of talk in the behind scenes how they spent a lot of time on the little veins and, you know, around their eyes. Yeah, blue veins. It was really creepy. I liked it. Yeah.
00:55:22
Speaker
It's a whole like sequence of them getting the route and they have to climb, you know. oh they fight a hydra plant. Yeah. Directly, it's just a hydra. Venus flytrap, hydra.
00:55:33
Speaker
Not to mention the Zandu. It's like, oh, it's a Zandu. Which isn't in, I couldn't find it in the best tree. So it's so niche. It's not even in the Star Wars best tree. Wow.
00:55:45
Speaker
But yeah, high adventure. Loved all of that. there was yeah what wasn't in this episode i mean there's everything in there was everything in this episode the only thing that wasn't is it was this is the one where i was like how are they going to wrap this up in 10 minutes because there's so much going on and like they did a really good job of wrapping it up but the way they did that was to just not show just skip a load of

Rex's Pragmatic View on Clone Deaths

00:56:08
Speaker
it yeah just skip oh we're back on the moon it's all fine oh yeah it's fine yeah great yeah Yeah. By the way, your Padawan was brilliant. Yeah, yeah, yeah. By the way.
00:56:20
Speaker
Meanwhile. Great. She did really well. Yeah. And they lose one of the clones. That was really heartbreaking. One of the clones died from the virus. And Rex just went, this is what they're made for, which is oh my kind of really like, no? Again, it's like, the question, like, Anakin is like obsessed with Saving Padme. And yeah, I get that. I get that. The clones are dispensable. Yeah.
00:56:44
Speaker
yeah Yeah. Constantly being asked questions about the clones. I think that's really cool. And the same in the first episode of these four, Rex did the same. He gets gives a report at the battle and he's just like, 11 dead, rest wounded.
00:56:59
Speaker
And like, again, he's just super chill about it. And i know you kind of have to be as a commander and yeah he's doing his job and all that, but it is still a bit like, I don't know, it's a bit jarring. Before we wrap up, there was a bit of music in this episode. i think it must have been on Naboo and it was very Phantom Menace-y. It's kind of mystery music at at the beginning when the contamination starts and we I think we go back to Typho and as we're kind of cutting back to Typho and Anakin talking about Yego, there's that mystery music. It's tremolo, strings and harps and little glissandi. I can't um remember what the mode is, the scale, but it's very watery, very Naboo. That's really cool. Very Phantom Menace. I loved it.

Shout out to my favourite line said by Obi-Wan. Cursed by whom, my twitching friend? My favourite line was also Obi-Wan at the

Obi-Wan's Humorous Wit and Charm

00:57:45
Speaker
beginning. He says, oh, well, just another boring day saving
00:57:50
Speaker
the universe. And it's Obi-Wan, isn't it? That says, oh, Poodoo. Yes. I love that. Again, I was like, I'm going to take that forward. Oh, Poodoo. It's like great. Back into her T's. Yeah. It's just so funny. There were some Obi-Wan heavy episodes these times. It was great. Yeah. I enjoyed this. Like said earlier, I just loved these episodes. was a bit of everything.
00:58:12
Speaker
and We had some clone stuff. We had some droid stuff. We had Anakin, Obi-Wan, Ahsoka, Padme. Yeah. All of the things. Creatures. Yeah. All the stuff. Different environments. Yeah. Space stuff. Like weird space net thing. Separatist weapons. by the way, looked like the Death Star thing. Yes, did notice that. Yes, did. noticed that, yeah. a precursor, isn't it? Bits of all of it.
