In this loose, semi-scripted episode, I'm recording handheld on a lovely spring day in Paris — sharing the stories the city sparked, setting expectations for a more freeform format than usual, and taking a quick scheduling detour along the way. A change of pace from the usual show, and hopefully a fun one.

Jim Prod: Why has this person chosen to hold a microphone in his hand? Well, for that one person who's wondering that, basically I've gone for the handheld option here because he's there sometimes it's nice to be able to um more move freely silly when recording an episode. It means I can kind of move around a little bit more. but When I'm using a microphone in a mic stand, you have to kind of... pretty much stay in front of the microphone stand. You can move it around a little bit, but not it does restrict your movement a bit more. And sometimes it's nice to just be able to relax a bit more and to be able to move a bit more freely. And look, I can move the microphone from one hand to the other hand. i mean thenil up Okay, and maybe you didn't need to know that, but I, but for some reason, needed to tell you. So this is a rambling episode, but it's a rambling episode with a script, which is not what I normally do.

Jim Prod: I'll explain all this stuff in a moment to but let's get started. I'm now going to start recording the audio. benie

Jim Prod: For this, I'm just going to press record on the audio, and then we're going to get started, and you will see a script on the screen. I'll be reading from the script most of the time. Sometimes I'll go off script. Okay, all right. You're going to stick with me? Stick with me. Why not? Just hang out with me for a while, and I'll speak English to you. Okay? All right. So let's start recording the audio now. Hello, listeners. How are you? I hope you're doing well.

Jim Prod: on this episode the yeah is called and reflecting on a wonderful spring day in Paris. And as the title of the episode yeah suggests, yato la i I'm going to be reflecting on a day I had the other day.

Jim Prod: describing the day, things I did, how they caused me to remember some moments from my past ah including a few teaching what experiences I had when im mean near at the beginning of my career and what I learned from them. And I'm also going to tell you a few stories later in the episode, including a short story I read in a book, and also some other things I experienced during the day. ta ya not Just one of those days same but which you don't realize is going to be lovely until you are experiencing it, and it kind of takes you by surprise, and you think, what oh, I'm having a lovely day. Is this going to be the whole day, or just a moment during this day? Okay? That was all one sentence. Devo parlare.

Jim Prod: I think it was. Now, I don't know how long this will be. I have a feeling that it will be very long. I've decided to keep it. as just one single episode though, will wing even if it is you like three hours long. As I said, I don't know, maybe it'll be three hours, maybe it'll be just an hour and 15 minutes, I've got no idea. you be call or more view But it could be a long episode. You get 100 bonus points silver and a special gold medal if you listen all the way to the end of this. onrinata

Jim Prod: Even if you don't do it in one go and you choose to break it up into shorter sessions of listening, aren they right? lefa But if you get to the end... A hundred points they they lost and a gold medal. If you don't listen to the entire thing, that's okay.

Jim Prod: Right? yeah I don't mind. But stick with me for as long as you like. It's completely up to you. and Also, I have an appointment at the barber's. That's a place you go to get your hair cut, and in this case to get my beard trimmed as well. I do have an appointment at the barber's at 3 .30 p .m. my time, which actually... hail no manda but dan is about 25 minutes from now.

Jim Prod: So, he the but why have I decided to do this? Why have i just I decided to start recording this episode knowing that it would be long or with this simply and knowing that it would be interrupted by na be the barber's appointments that I've got with the bo in less than half an hour's time? To be honest, I thought I was going to start recording this much earlier. Time flew away from me.

Jim Prod: And I thought, it doesn't matter. you I'll just record it. I'll just start recording anyway. I have to get you started. If I wait until after, there won't be enough time. So I've got to get started now, even if I get interrupted. hor But thanks to the magic of podcasting, I can i could just, you know, go and get my haircut and then carry on when I... when I get back, we look at and buty right? one I can but um cut the the recording, he na then you get my hair cut, and then i cut back into the episode. So yes, I've got an appointment at the barber's at 3 .30pm, and some of you are thinking, I'm glad to hear that, Luke. what, frankly, you could do with that.

Jim Prod: Well, yes, I have an appointment to get my hair cut and that includes the hair on your face. support

Jim Prod: yeah because I'm going to get my beard trimmed too. But if I'm not finished by then, then I will continue recording this when I get back. And you'll be able to enjoy experiencing both versions of me in this episode. If you're watching the video version, you'll be able to experience the hairy version and the slightly less hairy version. you And you'll be able to judge my haircut. You'll be be free to judge my cause that by my appearance.

Jim Prod: ea which is a human thing, isn't it? That's what we do as humans, we look at people.

Jim Prod: You won't judge me too harshly. I am only only a man, gu after all. I'm, you know, just a human.
