Interesting Non-Conference Matchups

Good, good. Yeah, this is a another short slate as we get fully integrated into conference play. um We get a couple of interesting non-conference opponents in Oregon State and Northwestern, as you mentioned, Northwestern playing ULM, Oregon State playing app.

Yeah. And then you have, as you said, some of the top, I would say there's really only one in-conference game that really projects to be much of a contest.

UL Monroe vs Northwestern Analysis

UL Monroe is traveling to Evanston to play Northwestern, ah who is... I don't think it's too crazy to say is historically a doormat of the P five, um, especially since they fired Pat Fitzgerald.

Um, they have kind of been adrift and are not competitive a lot of times. Um, you know they They had kind of played over their head at times when Fitzgerald was there, but ever since, they just don't they don't have an identity.

And so you've got this UL Monroe team who we've... we've talked to about some kind of some of their shortcomings, especially when it comes to like throwing the football, like they are efficient, but when you press them and, and kind of stop the run, they're, they're not able to do it consistently. Aiden Armenta is, is somewhere around the range of like 14 of 21, 170 yards, one touchdown and one pick, but they've got two guys that have almost 150, 170 yards rushing between them. And that's kind of how they win games and their defense is pretty good too. so um,

I'm interested to see what they do with this Northwestern team, ah just because, ah again, historically, they've not been very good. Their two wins, Northwestern this year, have been against West Illinois or Western Illinois and UCLA, who is another doormat in the ah the FBS.

I would say. Yeah, I mean, it' it's just going to come down to, as you said, the key to beating Monroe is always just going to be make Aiden Armenta make plays because he is an efficient quarterback that will get the job done. He's not going to lose you a game.

straight up. Um, Northwestern has played some weird teams, as you mentioned. I mean, with the losses to a good Tulane team and then obviously Oregon, um, this is, I would say this is the closest Northwestern has had to an even fight all year where they are either heavy favorites or heavy underdogs.

Um, But, I mean, UL Monroe, they started the year against St. Francis. um Then they went to Alabama, so they had their share of unfair fights. But then they played UTEP and Arkansas State, won two games back-to-back.

I think I like Monroe straight up here. Interesting. I mean, i don't I don't hate the call. I just – I could see them losing by, like, a field goal and it being, like – Yeah, kind of wish I had taken the plus 10 and a half. I mean, I've been sending you, I'm sure you're tired of it. I've been sending you like parlays that I've been like kind cooking up and putting together. And it was like, I've been much better on my NFL ones than I have been on college. But last week I had a four, a four team parlay. And the only leg that lost was ah Marshall straight up.

um Preston Stone that has thrown more interceptions than touchdowns this year. So fun to they if they can take advantage of of him and and, you know, get in the passing lanes, I like their chances if they can control the clock and and kind of a game.
South Alabama vs Troy Insights

ah My game of the week is really the only other game or is the only game from the conference slate, as I referred to, that I think is going to be close. It's going to be South Alabama at Troy.

That game, 7 p.m. m in Troy. This is interesting because both of these teams have to kind of figure really need to figure out what they're doing quarterback wise. Troy needs to figure it out in the ah wake of Goose Crowder. Is Tucker Kilcrease going to be what you do?

um Because Troy has a chance to go bowling this season, ah but you're coming up on that point where it's like, all right, well, you need these wins now. You've got to beat the South Alabamas now ah if that's something that's on your radar.

South Alabama, on the other hand, still has to figure its quarterback situation out. ah In that Bishop Davenport, despite some interesting ah performances early in the year, there's just nothing there.

um And this is a South Al team that is kind of spiraling, beat Morgan State, but has lost since lost to Tulane, Auburn, Coastal, and North Texas. um eat you know You can point to the ah a close loss against a good Tulane team, then obviously ranked Auburn, and then you also lose to 5-0 now North Texas team.

You jump up on ah what we know now is not a very good Clemson team, but they were up, I think, like 16 to nothing at one point. Clemson rallies and beats them 27 16. They get smoked, they get smoked by Memphis a couple weeks ago in a game that was maybe one of the least competitive games I've i've seen in a while.

And Tucker Kilcrease looked really, really bad. And it's kind of a Jekyll and Hyde thing with him on a weekly basis. You truly don't know what you're getting. um He could come out and look competent.

We kind of saw a little bit what we had other than Tucker Kilcrease and like Uwe Ale played a little bit. He was even worse than Kilcrease was. So it seems like from from here on Kilcrease is just that's his job until Crowder gets back from I think is a collarbone injury.
Troy's Season Performance

i think was what it was. Yeah, definitely. I mean, he's got to play for Troy. It's game plan wise, and they were already doing this, but it's become apparent that you have to follow kind of the ULM playbook where it's like Tucker Kilcrest is good enough to win football games.

I will say, even with a win, i it there's a world where that's the worst case scenario for South Alabama because after this, you get Arkansas State, Georgia State, and Louisiana, which are three winnable games, right? Those are three very, very winnable games.

I can stomach four and four, right? yeah the So the worst case scenario might be a win here against Troy that sparks momentum and kind of like what we've seen with ah Georgia Southern is just like prolonging kicking that can down the road.

Texas State vs Arkansas State Overview

You got Texas state traveling to Jonesboro to take on Arkansas state. ah Texas state is a 13 and a half point road favorite. Um, again, not really seeing signs of life out of this Arkansas state offense. It's they don't have a running game with Jaquez cross out for the rest of the year.

Uh, clay and Spencer have not been able to fill in for him. Uh, Texas state has looked good this season. Um, Lincoln pair has handled the majority of the, uh, the running game for them.

I think they'll be able to run all over Arkansas State. Brad Jackson is more of kind of a dual threat running quarterback than he is, you know, pocket passer type guy. So, yeah, I mean, I i think Texas State should be able to win this one fairly comfortably.

Yeah, I mean, Texas State is the good ending for Arkansas State. this is what the Texas State is what happens when Arkansas State can figure out how to put points up on the board ah with its only talent being on the offensive end. um And it's again, the good ending where Texas state is able to stop drives where Arkansas state simply can't, uh, last week, Arkansas state's only touchdown a pick six.

And this is a team that's best player is its quarterback. And its second best player is it's, is it's number one wide receiver, uh, in Corey Rucker. ODU is a, an 18 and a half point favorite. yeah, I lean ODU here, but Coastal weirdly showed like signs of life, even if it wasn't really reflected on the ah final like kind of box score.

So um I honestly kind of lean coastal here just because I feel like ODU will beat them, but it'll be like last week when they beat Liberty twenty one to seven I mean, yeah, I will, aside from the head coach and quarterback similarities, I mean, these coast coastal and Liberty are very similar, uh, in, in that they're just offenses that really can't get moving.
