In today's episode, we go into detail about our hopes for the podcast, how exactly it fell into our laps, and we even play a little "Get to Know Your Hosts" game, with a way for you to play along! We are SO excited to kickstart this adventure with such a fun episode, and we hope you love it!

Introduction to Art of Intention Podcast

00:00:00
Speaker
Welcome to the Art of Intention podcast with Beth and Ayla. Two best friends turn creative entrepreneurs. This is a place for us to discuss everything business, friendships, and faith, and occasionally more. We're so excited for today's episode. We think you're going to love it. Stay tuned. Hello. Here we are. We're sitting down and we're doing it.
00:00:28
Speaker
We did it. We're doing it. We got this. We are. So much prep. So much going on. But here we are. How are you doing? I'm doing good. I'm feeling good. Good. I'm excited. How about you? Me too. Me too. Oh, yeah. So excited. Well, how cool. I'll say hello to everyone. Hello. If you're listening, we are so excited to be bringing this project we've been working on to

Backgrounds and the Importance of Intentionality

00:00:51
Speaker
you. We're Beth and Ayla. I'm Ayla.
00:00:54
Speaker
And I'm Beth and we're two lifelong best friends who now each own their own businesses. We wanted to create an online space where we talk about the things that are most important to us and that's business friendships and relationships and faith. Yeah, you know over the years we've both experienced high school, college, travel, work,
00:01:15
Speaker
and now entrepreneurship. You know, we're both married. We both moved far away from our hometown and overall those life experiences, we've talked time and time again about how everything in life from starting a business, navigating your marriage, navigating friendships requires you to be intentional. You know, when it comes down to it, you get out of life what you put into it.
00:01:37
Speaker
Oh, so good. Yeah, I'm, I'm just so excited to get started

Personal and Professional Lives of Hosts

00:01:42
Speaker
with all this. So I figured Beth and I would both just take a quick little minute and introduce ourselves, talk about where we're at and what we do, our businesses and just everything in between. So I'll go ahead and start. Like I said, I'm Ayla and I live in central Canada with my husband, Chris. Uh, like Beth said, we're both originally from the same small town in Northern California.
00:02:02
Speaker
but I've been living in Canada since summer of 2021. Chris is a native Canadian and we moved up here together. And I own my own photo editing business. So I work for the busy and on the run photographer, editing everything from weddings and allotments to family and maternity sessions. I've been doing that since 2021 as well. And I always did it part time along with other jobs. But as of this year, January of this year, I've transitioned into full
00:02:32
Speaker
time. So that's my whole gig now and it's just been amazing. It's been tons of fun. Oh yeah, exciting things, exciting things happening. Um, so I'm Beth. Um, I am also married. Like Ayla said, Ayla and I are from the same small town in Northern California, but now I live in Hawaii with my husband. Um, I am a full time photographer. I photograph weddings and elopements and sometimes I work with brands and families as well. Some other small side projects.
00:03:01
Speaker
She's amazing, by the way. Oh my gosh. Oh my gosh. You're too nice. Ayla's amazing too. Best editor you could ever ask for. And well, that's something I was going to say. It's so exciting being able to have a career where now I work with my best friend. So we work with photo and editing together, but now we're obviously branching out into other ventures as well. So that's super exciting.
00:03:23
Speaker
Yeah, it's so cool. Yeah, Beth was my first editing client, which was so fun. And yeah, it's just been cool. We've worked together in different ways for a long time.

Friendship and Business Collaboration

00:03:34
Speaker
We've obviously we've been friends since I think we counted back at one point, but like over 12 years now, something like that.
00:03:42
Speaker
Yeah, I'd say actually, it might be more like 15 years now. Is it? Oh my gosh, scary. Yeah. Well, we've known each other forever. And then it was like mid, end of like seventh grade was where like. Sixth grade for me, cause you're one year older than me. Well, we're going to get into how we met too. We're going to do a podcast episode of talking about how we met. Cause it's an interesting story, interesting how we ended up becoming friends. Right.
00:04:08
Speaker
Right. Yeah, absolutely. But yeah, so we've been there for a while and now been working together for a little bit and it's yeah, it's just been such a good time. We're so excited to be jumping into this. We decided to create an online space like this a few months back when it kind of just fell into our laps almost out of nowhere.
00:04:27
Speaker
Yeah, I had been thinking and praying about a podcast on my own. I hadn't actually mentioned it to anybody. You know, I hadn't said anything to Ayla. It was just an idea that was kind of bouncing around in the back of my head. And I just kind of figured Ayla would be the one I'd want to start it with if I did do it. But I wasn't sure if that was something that you would actually want to do, Ayla, when I was, you know, thinking about it. Yeah. Yeah. And at this time when Beth's thinking about it, this was in January. So I had just transitioned into photo editing full time.
00:04:57
Speaker
And I was listening to way more music and podcasts than ever before all the time, just like working at my desk. And I wanna do like a quick episode at some point about what I'm listening to, but there's a few good podcasts going around in circulation.

Inspiration and the Birth of the Podcast

00:05:11
Speaker
A good friend of mine, if she's listening, Sandy, hello. She and her friend Olivia just started one called Want Her and it's everything lifestyle and creativity. And I've been really enjoying that one. But anyway, I started to be really inspired by what I was hearing all of these other
00:05:24
Speaker
like female business owners, entrepreneurs, um, just everything that I was hearing was really getting me hyped up. Cause I've never been that much of like a big business person, very creative brain, but I realized like you can be both and there's a lot to share and talk about and dive in with that. So I started really wanting to create something where I could get into that and maybe help others. And I just knew I was like, huh, if we're going to talk about like creative business owning, it has to be.
00:05:51
Speaker
with Beth. I don't know if I wouldn't do it with anybody else. Right. Well, and this is where it gets really crazy because what had happened was we had ... This was, yeah, back in January, we had our monthly FaceTime call that we have with each other. We got off the FaceTime call. Again, I hadn't mentioned anything about podcasts. We weren't even talking about podcasts, but I got off the phone call with her.
00:06:14
Speaker
I was just cleaning my house and praying and I was praying about the podcast cause it was on my mind again and I was just, you know, kind of asking God if this is what I need to do, open the door for me. And I was also praying that, you know, Ayla would want to do it with me or that if it was something else was to do with Ayla that, you know, that door would open and just, I was just praying for guidance. So I was probably praying honestly for like an hour while I cleaned my house, if not longer, just totally locked. Yeah. Just lost in prayer. So anyways, a couple of days go by.
00:06:43
Speaker
And I didn't check my messages from Ayla, you know, I just, life happened, right? And then I went to go text her, maybe even like a week later, it might've been like a week later. And I opened up the message. Yeah, so I went, yeah, exactly. I went up to open the message and, um, to tell you something, and I just see the words from you. Hey, we should start a podcast. That was it. That was all you would say. I remember. So, um, so I go to check like when you had sent that and.
00:07:11
Speaker
You had sent that the exact time on the day that I was praying about that for guidance. That is so crazy.
00:07:20
Speaker
It was just so wild. I couldn't believe that. So yeah, just chills even talking about it right now. It was crazy how that happened. And it was so crazy when you told me that, like, that you had been praying about it and you got the message like right when you had been. I, on my end, totally didn't think it was going to go anywhere. I was just like, we had just been talking. And I think that was our first FaceTime in a while. Like we went a few months where we didn't talk just because of life and stuff. So we like said a bunch of things and it was just getting me so fired up.
00:07:47
Speaker
about life and just hanging out with you more and stuff. And then I think I got back to work or I was doing something and I was listening to the Heart and Hustle podcast. And I was just like, this could be Beth and I. This could just be what we do. Like just two friends who both own businesses who work really well together. So it was just like for fun. I just sent that to you. I was like, by the way, we should start a podcast and didn't really think anything would happen. And then a week later when you saw it, you were just like, yes. And that was really it. And here we are.
00:08:18
Speaker
Yeah, I think I sent a message back in like all caps and I was like, please tell me this isn't a joke. But yeah, I mean, we're both self starters. We're very much go getters. So, you know, once the idea hit and we're like, Oh, wait, you're like, we're

Podcast Focus and Intentional Living

00:08:31
Speaker
serious. We're on the same page. Oh, okay. And then like, why wait? So here we are. That was in January, a couple months later and we're, we're going for it.
00:08:39
Speaker
Yeah, we hopped on a call pretty much just a few days after that text conversation, we hopped right on a call and just started like brainstorming. That first call was initially like what do we want it to be and then from there we figured out you know gear hosting all that stuff. But
00:08:55
Speaker
Yeah, the initial call was like, what do we even want this to be? Like what do we want to share with everybody? And we realized we wanted to be informative and helpful while also just having a place to just like girl chat and swap stories and then eventually invite other small business owners or whoever on to just do the same and everything in between.
00:09:16
Speaker
Yeah, and we kind of, you know, of course we thought, what are three things that are most important to us? You know, what direction can we take this? And so we thought, well, it's business, number one, and entrepreneurship, number two, friendship and relationships, specifically the friendship with each other.
00:09:31
Speaker
and then faith. So those are kind of the three things that we're focusing on. So this is hopefully going to be a place for us to share what we've learned in the small business community and small business owning so far. And also the lessons we've learned as we kept our friendship alive through all the changes and everything throughout the years. And then of course, the story that Jesus has given us to hopefully share.
00:09:53
Speaker
Yeah, so good and on the same call we were just we we kind of like went off track and just started reminiscing about our friendship and all the things we've seen each other through and Intentionality was the word that kept popping up everything in our lives so far has been like a decision that we've made that we've nurtured so
00:10:14
Speaker
we decided to continue our friendship after both moving away, which interestingly enough, we didn't initially move straight to Hawaii and Canada. We lived in different areas of California when Beth went to school for a while. And that was when we first realized, oh, when a friend moves away, you have to continue to nurture that friendship if you want to keep it around. So we decided to stay best friends. We decided to then get married and pursue marriages that
00:10:41
Speaker
you know, love our spouses and reflect the Lord. And we decided to put the work into starting our businesses. So while we're super like these opportunities came and we're thankful, it took like a lot of intentionality from our end to two, which is the word, like I said, that kept coming around.
00:10:56
Speaker
Yeah, exactly. So this will be a place for us to talk about, um, talk to you about how there are ways you can start integrating intentionality into your life, whether you're a business owner, employee, a wife, a student, a friend, you know, so, and, uh, since we are both in the photography niche, a lot of our business conversations will be directed towards that, but we hope to cover a wide variety of small business conversations, you know, we're going to have different guests on.

Dynamic Differences in Friendship

00:11:24
Speaker
So.
00:11:26
Speaker
Yeah, I'm so excited already for some of the stuff we've talked about that we want to get into. Like, I wish we could just share it all now, but all in due time. Exactly. But yeah, yeah. Oh, all good stuff. And yeah, so as Beth mentioned before, or we mentioned in general, we're
00:11:45
Speaker
One funny thing about our friendship is we're definitely, I would say, an unlikely duo. We've always been different in every way, shape, and form. And yeah, I feel like for friendships sometimes people tend to go like, oh, you're just two peas in a pod. They'll do all the same things, love all the same things. And we've just always been completely different, but it always worked.
00:12:06
Speaker
really well like it just kind of made us try new things that the other person liked and uh we didn't have to compete as much over liking the same things but yeah like always been opposites in every way in the best way i think right well and like when we say we're opposites we mean like in every way like details big and small pretty much i mean we live in opposite climates
00:12:28
Speaker
Like wear Canada, Hawaii. Yeah, exactly. We wear different clothes. I'm the photographer, Ayla's the editor. Like we're just different in so many ways. But like Ayla said, just throughout our friendship, I think in a weird way, being different from each other might have actually made us more trusting with each other too, at least for me on my end. You know, I never had to worry about like fighting with you over wanting the same stuff. Again, you kind of already touched on this, but our friendship was
00:12:55
Speaker
always just worked so well. It was a partnership. Even when we watched movies, we had different celebrity crushes on different actors. Oh my gosh. It worked out. It was just perfect. It's true. We never thought about our celebrity boyfriends. We liked different ones. Exactly. Made it so much easier.
00:13:19
Speaker
Oh my gosh, this is, yeah. Oh, you go ahead. You finished your thought. Well, no, I was just saying that, yeah, it's helped us really get a lot closer. And I think that, uh, I want to talk more in this podcast about how you don't have to search for somebody who is like your identical twin when it comes to friendships, you can have friendships and your best friend can be someone who is very different than you. And that's not something that's shown a lot in society. Usually, you know, best friends are like you said, two peas in the pot.
00:13:48
Speaker
Yeah, yeah, that would be such a good episode, unlike the benefits of
00:13:55
Speaker
Friends were similar and different. That'd be a good one. I think we'll have to talk about that. I think we'll have to talk about that just now. Yeah. I think so. No, I was just going to say this is like such a side tangent, but it reminds me of me showing you Lord of the Rings for the first time. I grew up a very nerdy child, obviously very much loved the Lord of the Rings. And I introduced Beth to it when we were however old, 12 or 13 or something. Yeah.
00:14:20
Speaker
And we even had crushes on like, cause you know, any young girl, Aragorn was everyone's first crush, but I was more of a Legolas girl and Beth was the Aragorn one. So we didn't even have to fight over them. No, exactly. Yep. When, when the scenes would come on in the movies that had like the other person's crush, we would just kind of like be like, Ooh, you know, egg each other on. It was perfect to be like, there's your boyfriend. Yeah, exactly.
00:14:44
Speaker
Oh it's funny though because I mean you know Aragorn is definitely still there and Chris and I talk about this because there was a portion he's very tall and he has dark hair and there was a portion of time where he had long dark hair like down to his shoulders and sometimes he would put it half up half down and I was always like wow you look really good today and he was like stop I know I look like dude from Lord of the Rings
00:15:09
Speaker
Yes. Oh man. It's like I'm exposed right now. If I could get Chad to grow out his hair, I'm telling you right now, his hair is very like a course. So it actually just grows straight up. He just gets like an afro or believe me. I've been trying for years. I'm like, if you can have a man bun, but he won't do it. Even if his hair would grow down and not just straight up, he wouldn't do it. He refuses, but I'm telling you that would be the happiest day of my life.
00:15:37
Speaker
Oh my gosh, that was such, I hope everyone enjoyed that story so much of our first celebrity crushes. We'll do that one sometime, just the shows we watched and who your boyfriends were. Anyways, so in the spirit of getting to know your hosts a little better, especially just like
00:15:57
Speaker
the different things that we

Interactive Engagement with Listeners

00:15:59
Speaker
each like. I actually made a little game and listeners can listen and play along on our Instagram. So I just wrote down some of this or that and general questions and Beth knows some of them. Some of them might be kind of surprised, but she'll give her answer and I'll give my answer. And then the exact same game is live on our stories right now. So you guys listening can play along
00:16:24
Speaker
unless you're driving or something, then you know, pull over, get to where you're going, then get out your phone and play along. So I'll give everyone like 10 seconds to get out their phones and go find, we are at Art of Intention podcast on Instagram. Some of you have followed us already. We can see, we weren't prepared for that, but if you're there, hello, you can find the game in our stories right now. So if you have it open, we will go ahead and jump into it.
00:16:53
Speaker
Bethany, are you ready? I'm ready. I'm nervous, but I'm ready. You're going to do great. It's going to be fun. They better be nice questions. I think so. I think they're good questions. OK. OK. Number one, would you consider yourself to be an introvert or an extrovert?

Personality and Preferences

00:17:13
Speaker
Oh, OK.
00:17:15
Speaker
I grew up really shy and so I think I kind of always consider myself an introvert and I think everyone assumes I'm an introvert, but I will say that
00:17:29
Speaker
After learning what the true definition of introvert and extrovert are, it's how you derive your energy. When I'm around groups of people or hanging out with friends, when I walk away, I'm so energized and I'm so motivated. Still, I'm very shy and I can definitely be by myself for long periods of time, totally fine. I don't ever feel like I need people.
00:17:52
Speaker
I do get super energized around people and after they leave or after I leave like a party or something, I feel so great. So I don't really know which one that makes me. Well, isn't there the ones too where it's like whichever one you lean more like you can be an extroverted introvert or an extroverted you're probably like an introverted extrovert like I think yeah, I think I might be something like that.
00:18:18
Speaker
Yeah, because the one thing that you and I are similar on is I'm pretty introverted as well. I've always been pretty content with my own self. And then the pandemic just sealed my fate with that. My tolerance for any amount of people has just plummeted. I liked it too much. It was just go to work and come home. And I was like, this is amazing. I don't have to come up with excuses for anything. So I feel like I might be even more so.
00:18:46
Speaker
It depends like of course my friends I definitely like to be around like close people in my like closer circle That's the equivalent of like the time getting to getting to spend with them. So, okay So we're pretty similar on that one. Yeah. Okay next one There's a lot of travel questions in here Beth and I are avid travel travelers and it's something close to both of us So this ended up going very travel heavy, but when you're traveling Beth, do you like flying or road trips?
00:19:17
Speaker
Oh, okay. I mean, I'm going to have to say flying because I don't think I've ever done like a formal road trip, like just for fun. Every time I've done a road trip, it's been like driving somewhere for work or for a specific event. So I'm just going to say flying. I like flying. I like the hustle and bustle of airports. I like the chaos and the busyness. Honestly, it's kind of fun. So yeah, that's true. I actually, this might be a hotter take, but I, I,
00:19:44
Speaker
prefer flying too. I used to be a big road trip person, and I still am. We should take one together. I think we might like it. Oh, I'm down. How have we not? Dude, I don't know. I don't know. How have we not?
00:19:58
Speaker
We went to Chico. We did that one. That was a mini one. That was a mini one. Cause yeah, it was just a couple hours, but yeah, like I definitely do love road trips and I love like you stock up on your snacks, you get all comfortable, you throw on music and you just go. I've been on many at this point and I always find myself just like exhausted and like grumpy by the end. Like I've taken road trips with groups of people and by the end, like no one's talking to each other cause you've all just been too close.
00:20:26
Speaker
right and i just i think i spent a lot of time being like we'll just drive we'll just drive and then realizing a plane gets you there so much faster and for less money so i'll have to i'll agree with you on that one that flying is pretty great yeah all right when you sit down to watch a movie at the end of the day you and chad what kind of movies do you guys gravitate towards
00:20:51
Speaker
Oh, okay. Well, first and foremost, Chad and I have different movie preferences. So I will say that when I'm watching movies and shows, I'm very lucky if he's sitting around anywhere near tolerating it. And that's because I love old movies, like old movies, old TV shows. I'm talking, I love black and whites, the Dick Van Dyke show. I love the old road to shows. Yeah. I mean, Danny Kay is one of my all time favorite actors, comedians, one of the best people to ever exist on screen.
00:21:21
Speaker
I won't go off on that. So I love that. And then if I'm not watching an old show, something nostalgic, something like that, those are usually what I watch throughout the day if I'm cleaning or doing laundry or if I'm relaxing. I love a good rom-com. If I'm going with something newer, oh my gosh, romantic comedies. Oh yeah. There are some great ones that have come out even recently that I love.
00:21:44
Speaker
Those are my two categories. I forgot you do like the older movies because I I'm completely different in that. I find them so boring. Sorry. Old movie lovers. I can't. There's like certain like Chris and I like 80s and 90s ones. I like those but like old 50s stuff. I it has to be I don't know. Yeah.
00:22:05
Speaker
Because I remember you used to like throw them on at your house and I was like yeah, this is so boring I tried man. I tried with you. So it's it you got me into your movies You know like right like Lord of the Rings you introduced the TV show psych I will say it that is my favorite TV show probably one of my favorite time and that's not old so you know I I couldn't drag you down to my world though. It is a little bit a
00:22:29
Speaker
grainy and low quality, I know. Well, yeah, there's definitely some within there that I like, but I definitely more in the like action adventure fantasy thing. Like if, if Chris and I are picking out a movie and going full movie night, I really like the like post-apocalyptic
00:22:50
Speaker
kind of doom and gloom ones if we're like a really interesting movie night if we want something a little more funny we'll honestly go to like how to train your dragon or something like that but uh i really love just like fiction stuff is my favorite so and now with that oh sorry go ahead i will say that's one thing you and i really differ on too is that like i when it comes to the doom and gloom stuff you couldn't pay me to watch those you could not pay me yeah so oh yeah we just
00:23:19
Speaker
oh i'll have to talk about this could be its own episode chris and i just finished a show recently and it killed me but anyway oh no you would hate it we loved it it was but it was it was awfully good anyway uh speaking of movies to relax would you rather read or watch tv um
00:23:41
Speaker
Well, okay. So considering I don't know the answer, so I know you're put on the spot right now, but for everyone. Yeah. Yeah. I'm sorry. Movies all the way. Let's be honest. And anybody who knows me who was just listening to that is like, why did you hesitate? You don't read. So it's true. It's true. Um, yeah, movies all the way. I'm sorry. No, that's okay. I already, I already knew.
00:24:02
Speaker
But I only ask because I knew that about you. Like you've never been a big reader. And I read less than I would like to just because my work is so like looking at a screen all day. I find it hard to read. But generally in my free time, I'm a reader. And same with fiction. I like reading fiction. That's my go to. So. Oh, yeah.
00:24:24
Speaker
All right, next one. Perfect, go ahead. Oh, I'm so sorry. I keep speeding into the next question. No, you're good. I keep trying to drag on the topics. I was just going to make a joke. I was going to say, you said you don't read as much as you like to, and I read more than I like to. I don't even want to read the instruction manual that comes out of something I buy, so.
00:24:43
Speaker
Moving on. Oh my gosh, it's true. It's true. I can't remember a specific instance, but I swear there's been times you and I are trying to do something and there's instructions and you're like, anyway. Oh, I remember times with us specifically because you want to sit down and do it right. And I'm like, if we can't forget this on our own, then we don't deserve to have this thing. So.
00:25:06
Speaker
Oh my gosh. I hate reading. Moving on. Oh man. Okay. So this one is more of a general question, but if you got a free plane ticket for anywhere and you left tomorrow, where would you want to go?
00:25:21
Speaker
Oh, Indonesia, 100% over to Bali. I've been wanting to go there for a long time. That's probably the top of my list. Hoping to get out there sometimes in the not too distant future, have some emotional connection out there, some reasons I want to go out there. And also it's beautiful. I think it's probably one of the most beautiful places in the world. So that's for me. And you were out there for a while, right? You were out there for quite a while.
00:25:50
Speaker
I was in Indonesia. I didn't go to Bali. I was on a missions trip. I actually can't say what island I was on because it's a non-Christian island. But anyways, that was fun. I should talk about those at some point. But yeah, I loved Indonesia. I loved the food. The people were so, so sweet. It was so cool. I'd like to go another time for more because that was like for work, I suppose at that time.
00:26:15
Speaker
and I'd like to go more for a vacation to the more touristy areas, but it's so cool. And the weather was just amazing, absolutely. Mine, there's so many places on my bucket list still, but if it was tomorrow, it'd definitely be Japan. Chris and I talked about going to Japan for a long, yeah, you know this, but yeah, we've talked about Japan for a while. We're actually practicing Japanese for the time. No way! Because we get to go. Yeah. Oh my gosh, that's amazing.
00:26:43
Speaker
I can't say much. I can kind of introduce myself, but we'll get better. You got time. Yeah.

Travel Preferences and Exotic Choices

00:26:50
Speaker
Okay. Also, when you're traveling into our next question, do you book hotels or Airbnbs?
00:26:58
Speaker
I tend to gravitate towards the Airbnbs. I will say there's a certain nostalgia that hotels come with for me. I love hotels because when I was a kid, growing up about once or twice a year, my family would go stay in a hotel for a family reunion and they were just some of the most fun times of my life. I loved those reunions. I loved everything about those trips. So hotels have a very good nostalgic feeling for me and I love them.
00:27:25
Speaker
I love the uniqueness of Airbnb. It's not like the adventure. I do like feeling like I'm at home when I'm traveling. And although it has gotten more expensive recently, unfortunately, Airbnb used to be like, oh, the super good, cheap deal finder. If you are going to be somewhere for a long time, Airbnb is still cheaper. So, you know, I gravitate towards Airbnb in general. That's good to know. Yeah.
00:27:49
Speaker
Cuz I I too I've stayed in either I like either um lately I've been moving to hotels just yeah the convenience I suppose I I like to talk to the most minimal amount of people yeah when I'm staying somewhere cuz there's definitely that culture with Airbnb of like sometimes the hosts like want to hear about you and where you're going.
00:28:09
Speaker
And I like that for other people, but Chris and I are just like, we want to get in, get out. We don't want to tell you about ourselves. There are those continental breakfasts in hotels. You gotta like those. Oh my gosh, it's true. I love hotel breakfast. If you get full access to the full continental, oh my gosh, my favorite place. I will say that's a big benefit right there.
00:28:35
Speaker
Yeah. And that's another bucket list item for me to just like the absolute bougiest hotel that I could pick out all the amenities. Like I definitely want to do a stay like that at some point. Oh my gosh. There are some, yeah, there are some destinations I want to go to just because of specific stays like Airbnb's or specific hotels. Right. Right.
00:28:55
Speaker
Cool, so this one's a bit of, I don't even remember writing this one, but we are, it's a bit of a wild card. If you could safely own any exotic animal of your choice, what would it be? Oh shoot, okay. Okay, all right. I must have just watched something, I don't know, but anyway, now I'm curious.
00:29:19
Speaker
Okay, gosh, honestly, I'm not gonna lie, so many of them would be great if you could do it safely. But I will say, I'm gonna say giraffe. And the reason is because I love giraffes. I never think about them, but then when I do think about them, I'm like, oh, I love giraffes. But I will say this, and this is one, we were just talking about this. This is perfect. We were just talking about hotels. So there's a hotel in Africa, and I wanna go here. It's amazing.
00:29:48
Speaker
where you can eat breakfast and giraffes will look in your window while you're eating and you can feed them and pet them. It's called the giraffe hotel. Yeah. In Africa. And I will just say that is right up there at the top of my list for me. So yeah, I'm going to say giraffe. Okay. Let me know when you're going. I'll just tag along. Oh, straight up. Let's go. We'll plan that together. Sounds good.
00:30:13
Speaker
It weirdly popped into my head, but that's also my mom's favorite animal. Oh, yeah. That's one's giraffe. Carrie, let's start a giraffe farm together. And, uh, you know, let's do it Carrie. And if you're listening, what do you think? Oh my gosh. Could you imagine on your photography page? It's like, uh, giraffe package. Come get married. Get married among the giraffes in Northern California.
00:30:42
Speaker
Never heard anything more confusing. Oh my gosh.
00:30:47
Speaker
Oh, my animal. I forgot. I was on. Yeah, I would probably I think I've always I've I've always thought because I think about this often. I would do a cheetah. It's it's always been my favorite, like big cat. Oh, yeah. But I recently I thought about it, though. The other thing that could be interesting is I've always thought also about doing like an ocelot. What? Those are the ones that are like, yeah, they're like the mini.
00:31:15
Speaker
jaguars essentially not mini jaguars all the other animal lovers are going to come after me they look like jaguars and they stay in trees very much and they're small and fast like they're bigger than a house cat but um they're one of the smallest big cats and i just think that would they look really cool so i think that would be a cool one i've never heard of this in my life i'm having to look this up gosh it's literally a mini cheetah
00:31:40
Speaker
Okay. Right. I think I feel like they'd be vicious, but if I got to like safely own it, I feel like that would be a lot of fun. Yeah. I mean, your question was if we could do this safely, there's a lot about this. It's never going to happen. This is cool. Yeah. Yeah. But without all the implications, like if you could just vibe, yeah. Okay. Well, I just learned a new thing. I've never heard of this before. So there we go. Teaching me new things already.
00:32:03
Speaker
Let's see, different, different friendships to learn new things. Okay, with your wardrobe, do you like to wear colors or do you stick more to the neutrals?
00:32:17
Speaker
I will say I like neutrals, like whites and cream colors and all like light, you know, tans and stuff. And then I'll do colors sometimes of course too, like some light blue, like pastel colors, like light blues and pinks and stuff like that. So I, but definitely I, yeah, but I'm very picky about my colors though. Like I don't, I don't like like,
00:32:36
Speaker
to wear certain colors and sometimes colors get me. I like to stick to just honestly like whites and tans because I have a little bit of trouble when I try to mix colors. I feel like it never turns out right, so. Right. Yeah. I'm in the same boat as you, but just black. Yeah, always just black. Oh wait, my soft neutrals are just black.
00:32:59
Speaker
Wait, right now, what are you wearing? You're wearing a black shirt right now. And I'm wearing a plain white t-shirt. Stop it. This is perfect. This is perfect. So just as an example for anyone who's listening, this perfectly sums up our friendship. Ayla, what are you wearing? What pants are you wearing? Oh, I'm wearing like light wash casual pants, like jeans. Oh, like jeans? Oh, yeah. Because I just did a black crew neck and I
00:33:28
Speaker
I knew that no one could see me, so I'm wearing orange sweatpants. Yes!
00:33:32
Speaker
This is it. This is how we are. You know what? I have started to wear colors lately. I'm so proud of you. Oh my gosh. What colors? It's new. What kind of colors? It's new. Right now, well, the pants I'm wearing are like a rust orange. That's kind of been okay. And then like forest greens. Oh yeah. The dark red. That's about as much as I can do, but I'm getting there.
00:33:58
Speaker
You're getting there. That's awesome. I'm proud of you. I still can't do white. I don't know what it is. White makes me uncomfortable. What? I'm worried about getting it dirty. Oh my gosh, this is such a tear. Do you remember hanging out one day and we were going to the lake and I was wearing a white t-shirt dress?
00:34:20
Speaker
And I, guys, I like put a towel down on my driver's seat and I like put something down to sit at the coffee shop where you're at. And Beth was like, you don't wear white a lot, do you? And I was like, I'm going to get it dirty. That was hilarious. Literally about, I mean, it was probably just a couple of hours into us being around each other. And I was like, why does she keep like, I've never seen her put a towel down for sitting. We didn't just get wet. Like what's happening? It was hilarious. I was like, Oh,
00:34:50
Speaker
Yeah, I was like, I can't I can't do. All right, everybody. Last question. This one's like kind of a somewhat deeper question.

Relaxation and Upcoming Episodes

00:35:00
Speaker
So answer as you will. But what is your outlet outside of work? What helps you unwind from work the most?
00:35:07
Speaker
Oh, okay. Well, this is a little bit tricky because I, uh, I'm still learning how to do this properly. And this is an episode we'll get into. Um, we'll get into this later, but my transition from part-time to full-time was a little bit messy in that I got completely absorbed by my work. It just became my whole life leading up to full-time. I had already made it my whole life. So I've been trying to unlearn those bad habits of letting it be every second of every day, you know, seven days a week. So.
00:35:35
Speaker
Right now, what works for me right now is just going and doing something physically. Like I'll go outside and I'll try something. In order to motivate myself, it needs to be something I'm excited about. And I'm always excited about trying new things. So my goal lately, this has been working with me for about six months.
00:35:55
Speaker
I just say every weekend I'm gonna go out and do something new because then I'm motivated to step away from my work and go do that so that's my outlet is going out and doing something new so whether that's swimming in a new place or You know nice I like I love that and it does like work with your job eventually cuz then if you find a new place or something then Right. Yeah, I say I'm stepping away from work, but let's be honest. I'm really just location scouting and
00:36:22
Speaker
Yeah, but that's the fun part. That's the fun part. True. I would say I'm very similar. I have awful work-home boundaries of working on it. But I would say the thing that really helps me step away is I'm a pretty physically active person, and all of my jobs up until this point have allowed me to be that. So this is the first job I've had that's pretty still, which has been hard. So I have to prioritize going to the gym.
00:36:48
Speaker
And part of it's free, yeah, like health and stuff, but it just helps me to move. So that's my biggest step away. Like if I can start or end the day with moving, especially like being in the gym, that really helps. If I can be outside, that's even better, but it's still winter in Canada right now. So not any other fellow.
00:37:09
Speaker
people from where we are will understand not always an option to go out on a jog but yeah if I can just move in some way and then like the other way the kind of the opposite of that is unwinding is Chris and I if we can take like a full weekend or like at least night just full on movie night like pillow fort blanket fort snacks like the world's not even outside that's that's one of my other most favorite things to do so that helps me a lot but oh yeah
00:37:38
Speaker
That's perfect. Well cool. That's all my questions. That was fun. That was great. Thanks for doing it with me. Yeah, that wasn't too hard. I was a little nervous.
00:37:47
Speaker
but that's great. It was, yeah, it was okay. I tried to keep them pretty, like, I wasn't going to ask you like, what's your purpose on this planet or anything like that, but what's your main goal in life? Yeah. Gosh, I don't know. Someone tell me. Yeah, exactly. I'm surviving. I'm surviving. That's my goal. Well, that same, same. And, uh, that actually, essentially that's pretty much everything we have for them today, isn't it?
