Introducing Wine Mama Season Six
00:00:01
Mena
Welcome to Wine Mama, a podcast where two bestie moms whine while they whine. I'm Jemina. It's been a while.
00:00:10
Annie Pyle
It has been a while, so in case you're not sure who I am I'm Annie. Let's whine. And my oh my, Jemina, we are kicking off season six.
00:00:21
Annie Pyle
i Should I say strong?
00:00:23
Annie Pyle
My God, should I say strong or like concerning?
00:00:28
Mena
where We're kicking it off with memory loss. Cheers to that. That just means I've been, you know, ah lots of R&R on my end, clearly.
00:00:36
Annie Pyle
Lots of stuff going on. i you know You know I've done that before. we we all...
00:00:41
Mena
I know. i know. Except your pause was longer. Like, I feel like your pause when introducing yourself was way longer. i at least I caught myself with the look, but you were just like, that but no, now we can vote.
00:00:52
Mena
Now we can both say we've done it.
00:00:54
Annie Pyle
Okay, but yeah, we've both been there, done that. But welcome to season six. Holy crap. Season six.
00:01:01
Mena
That's crazy. That's crazy. Welcome back. Welcome back. And To all of you and to any new listeners that happen to join us on season six, highly encourage you to start with season one because one, we were rookies at it and two, the hilarious unhinged stories are just unbeatable. So I would highly recommend to tune in every week to listen to us now, but also on your spare time, go back and start from the beginning.
00:01:26
Annie Pyle
yeah we Yeah, we find ourselves pretty funny, so maybe maybe you will too. But now we're catching everyone kind of at the, don't want to say middle of summer, but it's still, I mean, summertime's still going pretty strong um with this first episode.
00:01:40
Annie Pyle
So happy summer to everyone. Before we get into kind of catch up and what we've been doing, are we ready to wine with our wine of the week?
00:01:50
Mena
So ready to win with the wine of the week.
00:01:52
Annie Pyle
Amazing. And this week we are drinking Cloudy Bay Sauvignon
Wine Tasting with a Twist: Jalapenos
00:01:56
Annie Pyle
Blanc. And if you are a longtime listener, you might be wondering, hmm, that sounds familiar. Did the Wine Mamas do that before in season two?
00:02:04
Annie Pyle
And the answer would be yes, but we've added a little bit of a twist for this episode. Jamia, do you want to share what that fun little twist is?
00:02:13
Mena
Oh, so stoked to be the one to share. Thank you so much. We have roofied our drinks. No, I'm just kidding. I'm totally kidding. Could you imagine?
00:02:23
Annie Pyle
We're going to make it through about another five minutes.
00:02:24
Mena
Well, obviously, that's probably why I already forgot. i got some of the roofie in the beginning. no, We noticed that over the summer break, there was a very, very viral trend going on with Savvy B's, okay?
00:02:43
Mena
And if you're anywhere on social media, then you know the twist is we froze jalapenos and put them in our Sauvignon Blanc. So the reason why we wanted to do a sauvignon blanc that we've already done is because we didn't feel it was fair to get a new sauvignon blanc and rate it based off of jalapenos being in it.
00:03:03
Mena
So we took one that we knew we rated a decent rating for, and we went all the way back to beginning season, so season two, and added the jalapeen the frozen jalapenos to see whether this ups the drink or kind of bunks the drink, if you will.
00:03:20
Annie Pyle
I love that. I love that. Also, I hope we don't get canceled by talking about roofies on our first episode back. Oh my God. you guys, please don't cancel.
00:03:28
Mena
cancellor so great Rufies are not a joke. Okay. Remember, always go to the bar and ask for an angel shot. I don't know if anybody knows that, but I recently, you don't know this.
00:03:37
Annie Pyle
No, what's, what's that?
00:03:39
Mena
Okay. so I've recently found this out, like maybe like a year ago.
00:03:41
Annie Pyle
Oh, we are segueing. So pause everyone.
00:03:43
Mena
We're segueing it like this is if you're new here, this is totally normal. But um reason I recently found out like a year ago, which I wish I
Safety Tips: 'Angel Shot' in Bars
00:03:50
Mena
would have known in college. But if you feel like you are being like either harassed or like a date is going wrong or you feel like someone may be doing something to you or trying to do something to you, you go up to the bar and you tell the bartender you need an angel shot.
00:04:06
Mena
And that, you know, like kind of like a name of ah a shot that you can take.
00:04:10
Annie Pyle
Sure. Sure. Sure.
00:04:11
Mena
the bartender knows that that means you need help and they will escort you. Like they will get security and they will help you get escorted to your car safely or put you, you know, basically get you away from whatever danger you're feeling in that environment.
00:04:25
Annie Pyle
Right. Oh my God. That's amazing. Wow. I did not know about that,
00:04:27
Mena
Isn't that amazing? I know started as a joke, but now like this is a serious topic. And I did not know that. I wish i would have known that like in college. Not that I ever felt unsafe in college, but like I'm sure there's tons of girls that
00:04:37
Annie Pyle
but still Sure.
00:04:40
Mena
in college that are naive at bars or like maybe are already a little tipsy and not realizing things are being inappropriate, go to the bartender, angel shot. Anyways, I'm going to stop deviating on that note and let's get back to the wine.
00:04:53
Annie Pyle
my gosh, this is so crazy. I, I never have heard of that. And I'm sure if I've ever heard of it, I'm sure there are people out there who have also not.
00:05:00
Annie Pyle
So thank you for that piece of information and turning this, the more, more you know, that ter turning this roofie conversation into a positive
00:05:09
Annie Pyle
light shed on angel shots. But I'm going to do a little bit. going to a little bit of background on
Exploring Cloudy Bay Wine
00:05:15
Annie Pyle
Cloudy Bay. Again, if you really want the full details, go listen to season two. I think it's the final episode, but maybe just pick your way through season two and you got to find it. Okay.
00:05:23
Annie Pyle
So in 1983, David Honan tasted his first Marlboro Sauvignon Blanc. Captivated by its intents intensity, he began a journey to bottle the essence of Marlboro and share it with the world.
00:05:37
Annie Pyle
He and winemaker Kevin Judd launched Cloudy Bay in 1985 to international acclaim with a Sauvignon Blanc that put New Zealand wine on the map. And if you know anything about us, I'm sure you guys are like, oh we get it.
00:05:50
Annie Pyle
You love a New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. Yes, yes, we do. We do. yeah Literally, it's Bible. It's Bible for the wine mamas, okay?
00:05:58
Mena
Lock me up and take me to jail. Lock me up. If it's a crime, I'm guilty. Okay.
00:06:04
Annie Pyle
she'll take the She'll take the handcuffs too, okay?
00:06:09
Mena
As long as they're soft.
00:06:15
Mena
Okay. Anyways, moving on more about this. A quote from the website, quality is our obsession, our hallmark, and our promise.
00:06:25
Mena
We know making exceptional wines takes acute attention to detail in all aspects of wine production. We love a company that is going to produce a solid, good wine and that cares about the details in not that only production, but their marketing, the way they display it, where they sell it, like all all inclusive.
00:06:43
Mena
and I'm here for it.
00:06:45
Annie Pyle
Agreed. This wine has a zesty and vibrant nose with notes of juicy citrus and lime underined underpinned, underpinned, underpinned, underpinned by subtle white nectarine and passion fruit notes.
00:06:56
Annie Pyle
The palate is complete with ripe, vibrant passion fruit and citrus at the fore and meld with tropical hints of peach and guava. The price is anywhere between $25 and $35. So a really nice price point for a good quality Sauvignon Blanc.
00:07:11
Annie Pyle
And when we say good quality, Jameen and I, do we want to say we rated it previously?
00:07:16
Annie Pyle
So we rated it, I rated it an eight or corked it an eight and Jemena corked it an 8.2, which is a really good corking for a wine. But again, we know and love our Sauvignon Blancs and know the potential, um, we can have with the, I mean, listen, Sauvignon Blanc, if I ever rate a wine a 10, I can get almost guarantee you to probably Sauvignon Blanc. So I know that this has potential maybe to be higher than that. If this jalapeno, um, thing that everyone's doing is, is, um,
00:07:44
Annie Pyle
is true and it, it, it adds something to it.
00:07:46
Annie Pyle
So are we ready?
00:07:49
Mena
yes i'm ready for for reference here i have i think you do too we have three hal frozen jalapenos inside how many do you have you have two right well then
00:07:56
Annie Pyle
I have two, i have two, I have two. So this, I mean, this is going to be crazy.
00:08:03
Mena
Well, this is going to be crazy. Well, one's going to be, well, I'm Latina. I like things spicy. So it adds up.
00:08:10
Annie Pyle
Yeah, you can take more spice than me. You guys, we're already, we're already, I feel like a little off the rocker here for season, season six. So.
00:08:16
Mena
Okay. I want you to smell it first though. Now that they've been soaking a little bit, you can kind of even smell the spice of the jalapeno.
00:08:25
Mena
I'm kind of digging it.
00:08:26
Annie Pyle
Wait, this is great. Watch me burn my freaking tongue off.
00:08:30
Mena
Okay. All right. Well, with that, cheers to season six. Welcome back.
00:08:34
Annie Pyle
Cheers. Cheers. Welcome back.
00:08:39
Mena
wait we were were were we Wait, wait, wait, wait.
00:08:46
Annie Pyle
ah Did you, you didn't try this at all, right? Like not, I'm not in the cloudy Bay, but you have not tried this like jalapeno trick.
00:08:51
Mena
i am yeah This is my first time trying this trend.
00:08:53
Annie Pyle
Okay. Same, same.
00:08:53
Mena
This is a live reaction and I'm here for it.
00:08:56
Annie Pyle
Okay. So I will, I will always, I will say, and you can ask Greg this. I've always liked the flavor of the jalapeno itself. So I can take some spice, but like, I like the flavor.
00:09:06
Annie Pyle
have If you've ever had a jalapeno, that's like not
Podcast Pranks & Catching Up
00:09:09
Annie Pyle
spicy. on know that's it because it's not ripe yet or it's too ripe or what it is, but like I've had like a, he like a fresh jalapeno.
00:09:14
Annie Pyle
That's like not super spicy. I love the taste of the vegetable. guess it's a vegetable, right? Jalapeno pepper.
00:09:23
Annie Pyle
Right. I don't know.
00:09:23
Annie Pyle
Like I like the taste of it itself, like without the spice, And you're getting that with it. So, I mean, you're getting a little hint of spice maybe, but you're getting the actual flavor and it's so good.
00:09:36
Mena
yeah Yeah. Yeah. it It's honestly transforming the Sauvignon Blanc. mike and and The palate, I'm here for. I understand why this is going viral right now.
00:09:49
Annie Pyle
Not me rating this a 10 and getting a little jalapeno pepper as my tattoo.
00:09:53
Mena
we discussed this at the end of last season.
00:09:55
Annie Pyle
I know. I'm like, wait a second. It's it's come all du coming full circle.
00:09:57
Mena
I feel like it's only right at this point. Like, I feel like I truly feel, I feel I just relate to the jalapeno pepper at this point because when I'm an Aries, I'm a fire sign instant. I'm Latina.
00:10:09
Mena
I like it. um Just, it all points to the right.
00:10:13
Mena
i like it. Like it all, it's all pointing to jalapeno tattoo. You know what I'm saying?
00:10:18
Annie Pyle
Yes. Greg's going have to come top me off here in a few minutes. I'm like, I'm ready to party.
00:10:22
Mena
I may honestly, I think, I think I may add a jalapeno. I feel like I could use an extra.
00:10:27
Annie Pyle
I could definitely add another little jalapeno in here to, to, I mean, quite literally spice it up, spice things up this evening.
00:10:34
Mena
Yeah. Oh my gosh. Yes.
00:10:38
Mena
But anyways, any of,
00:10:40
Annie Pyle
Anywho, our first episode back is always, i i look forward to this episode so much because we always record as close to some stuff we record in the off season and kind of like post it or launch it obviously throughout the season.
00:10:53
Annie Pyle
But this one, we truly try to record as close to launch like season launch as possible. And I always love it because I mean, we talk literally all the time, but it's different than talking on the podcast and like truly catching up.
00:11:07
Annie Pyle
So that's what this episode is, is just catching up with ourselves and with you guys, but you're just basically listening to us catching up with us.
00:11:17
Mena
You're catching up with us. i'm Because again, if you're a new listener here, we usually have a topic, a motherhood related topic that we whine and whine about. But you know,
00:11:29
Mena
It feels like almost like now we're just so relatable that now just having normal conversation is just as fun. So, i mean, the opener is always just us catching up anyway, but I just feel like we need to sprinkle it in a little bit more just because, i don't know, I think people just like listening to our shenanigans at this point and honestly listening to real live, like comedic, like stories of our lives.
00:11:54
Annie Pyle
I agree. And I am glad that you said that because I think we are going to start, jimmy mean we've we've talked about this.
00:11:59
Annie Pyle
I think we are going to start kind of sprinkling in more of just like everyday life things. Of course, we'll keep guests. We'll kind of talk about guests later on in this, which I'm so freaking excited about the guests that we have this season.
00:12:12
Annie Pyle
But you know we have our guests that we we love to chat with and we have our typical, not typical, we have topics that you and I go over, but sometimes it's fun to just be like, if there's something like big that happened to you this week or like some trip that you went on or something going on in your family, it's kind of fun to just like talk or to take a pop culture thing.
00:12:32
Annie Pyle
Like you watch the latest episode of like love Island because I know you are head first.
00:12:37
Mena
where That is on my topics list to discuss tonight. Like,
00:12:40
Annie Pyle
Okay. Well you can't do it too much because we still have our pop culture episode in what two, two weeks, two weeks, one or two weeks.
00:12:43
Mena
oh my God, yes. You're right. You're right. we do We do have our pop culture in two weeks.
00:12:47
Annie Pyle
So we can't get too, yes, we can't get too far into it.
00:12:48
Mena
Maybe that's when I need it.
00:12:51
Annie Pyle
But, um, Yeah, we'll start kind of dabbling a little bit more in like just just chatting because I think you're right. A lot of people kind of just resonate and like our listeners resonate with.
00:13:01
Annie Pyle
Yeah, they want to hear like a certain topic and our opinions on those topics. think they also just like to just relate and talk with us.
00:13:10
Annie Pyle
And listen. Yeah.
00:13:12
Mena
Like I said, comedic relief. You're welcome.
00:13:14
Annie Pyle
ah comeicli I said talk with us because I saw this thing. You guys, it was so I think I sent it to you. It was like, you will never feel more like a ghost. You will never feel more like a ghost than when you are like screaming at a podcast, like an answer to a podcast or like talking to a podcast where they can't hear you and people are just going back and forth.
00:13:30
Annie Pyle
And do you know how many times you and I have been talking?
00:13:32
Annie Pyle
We're like, who is that person? What is their name?
00:13:36
Annie Pyle
How do you pronounce this?
00:13:36
Mena
I can imagine the yells.
00:13:38
Annie Pyle
And I thought, Yes, I thought was so funny. It's you will never feel more like a ghost than when you're yelling at a podcast that can't hear you. And I'm like, that's literally me and Jamina. People probably screaming answers and things at us.
Summer Adventures & Family Fun
00:13:51
Mena
Not only that, I think a lot of people, like specifically me, they're correcting me and my challenges of reading. Like I think like, I think that's a big one boy
00:14:02
Annie Pyle
You mean people are probably cringing when we we we're reading the wine descriptions? and They're like, that's actually not how you say that.
00:14:09
Mena
one. 1,000% that is. um But before we get into like what we've been like chatting about, I told Annie I have a big announcement.
00:14:19
Annie Pyle
You guys, I'm for okay. Mine is tasting more and more jalapeno-y and I love it. You I'm freaking the F out over whatever this is.
00:14:24
Mena
my God, it's so good.
00:14:28
Annie Pyle
Jaminah could say she painted her toenails and I'd be like, oh my God, this is so amazing. Okay. You guys know, of course, when my best friend tells me i have an announcement, I have something I want to say.
00:14:37
Annie Pyle
And I'm like, any person in their right mind is going to immediately guess something specific that we all know where my mind goes.
00:14:46
Mena
and Yeah, something that everyone, it's on everyone's mind. Everyone's always asking me, sorry, my brain light just died and I'm like super dark now. So I'm literally going to just live plug my other one in because nobody wants to be ugly on the podcast.
00:14:59
Annie Pyle
You have, you have to,
00:15:02
Mena
Not that anybody's even watching us.
00:15:04
Annie Pyle
should we start YouTubing this? I feel like YouTube is now like a thing again. I'm i'm hearing, oh my God.
00:15:08
Mena
Oh my, oh my i Who uses that one?
00:15:11
Annie Pyle
the angel said, there she is.
00:15:14
Mena
um my, let there be light.
00:15:15
Annie Pyle
God. You okay? Are you blinded?
00:15:18
Annie Pyle
Where are the sunglasses?
00:15:18
Mena
I'm so blinded. i think it a little bit better, like brighter.
00:15:21
Annie Pyle
Um, a little brighter, like do it a notch up. Yes. A notch up. You're fine.
00:15:26
Mena
No, i I'm already pale. I'm going to blend into the wall. you're just going to see eyeballs and a head of three hairs like that. but seems so bright to me.
00:15:35
Annie Pyle
No, it's not bright. It looks good. Okay. Now you're delaying and it's stressing me out.
00:15:39
Annie Pyle
Are you moving to Tampa? Are we like what is happening?
00:15:41
Mena
Oh my gosh. No big, big announcement guys.
00:15:44
Annie Pyle
Okay. Okay. I'm going to throw up. What is it? Tell me.
00:15:46
Mena
and And the reason why I waited just now to tell Annie is because I want to capture her reaction on camera. All
00:15:52
Annie Pyle
I'm literally sweating. I am sweating. You know, I already am a sweater. I'm sweating.
00:15:57
Mena
right. So the big announcement that I have to make, which is life changing, honestly, it is a life changing announcement I'm about to make.
00:16:04
Annie Pyle
I mean, I'm going to punch you if it's something small and you're messing with me. I swear to God, I will march my ass over to Orlando.
00:16:17
Mena
like yeah okay okay okay i'll stop i'll stop i am finally on tiktok
00:16:23
Annie Pyle
fucking swear to God, I'm going to kill you, dude. i
00:16:28
Mena
did i also i just want to point out too that is also a lie i literally have been planning and plotting to say this announcement this fake announcement by the way i'm not on tiktok
00:16:28
Annie Pyle
Do you am? Do you see my hands like literally, literally shaking?
00:16:42
Annie Pyle
Jemina. oh my God. you guys.
00:16:45
Mena
Because I literally just wanted to prank you and get your reaction.
00:16:49
Annie Pyle
I wasn't even looking at, I wasn't even looking, i wasn't even looking at what I looked like.
00:16:49
Mena
And it was everything I dreamed of and more.
00:16:53
Annie Pyle
I was looking straight you. So I was probably like having a conniption.
00:16:57
Mena
i I know. And i it was everything I wanted. Thank you so much for that moment. I really appreciate it I will make sure to post that on our one mama social just for the better.
00:17:05
Annie Pyle
I love you so much for that. The funny thing is I'm now going to take that clip and post it to the wine mama. Tik TOK you guys, we are trying to grow on Tik TOK. Tik TOK's really freaking hard.
00:17:15
Annie Pyle
Um, but I will say i have started posting more on there and it's so cool because you're just seeing so many random people, right? Like when you post on Instagram, it's people typically, I mean, there's the search or like the, the found page where you, yeah.
00:17:29
Mena
Yeah. Or sounds or things like that.
00:17:32
Annie Pyle
where you can like see other people, but it's really the people that you already follow that you're seeing. TikTok is so unique where it's like, of course, you're goingnna see the people that you follow, but you're seeing so many new people.
00:17:41
Annie Pyle
So I'm really, we're going to really try this season to also get ourselves a little more ingrained on the old TT, the old TikTok.
00:17:49
Annie Pyle
So thank you for that TikTok joke, because now we would love for you guys to follow us.
00:17:54
Mena
Exactly. That is where I was going with this is basically saying that I know ah HR is going to force me at some point to download Tik TOK, to be a part of our wine mama Tik TOK community.
00:18:06
Mena
I it's coming. I already know. i already know it's coming and she's just waiting for the right time to tell me to download it. It's probably going to be when we get together and she's just going to literally take my phone, download it, sign in and force me to use it.
00:18:18
Annie Pyle
one, one million percent. It's going to be after you guys remember the Aji limo margarita mix we had last season. Yeah. It's going to be after we finished a whole bottle of that because we have done that before.
00:18:28
Annie Pyle
it's going be after we finished a whole bottle of that.
00:18:31
Annie Pyle
And then like, Oh my God, this is so silly.
00:18:33
Annie Pyle
Give me your phone. And I'm goingnna do it on, on your phone.
00:18:35
Mena
Yeah. yeah I know. Yeah. I know she's going to force it at some point. So that's why like, I'm like, oh my gosh, I'm going to beat her to it. And I'm just going to prank her by telling her that because I know she's going to think I'm going to say something totally different.
00:18:47
Mena
and knew you, I knew your first thought was gonna be like, oh my God, she's pregnant. And she literally thought I was drinking non-alcoholic wine right now.
00:18:52
Annie Pyle
Yeah. I was like, go get your wine bottle out of the fridge right now. Show me your wine bottle that you have, you big liar.
00:18:55
Mena
Yeah. Yeah. She was, she was panicking, but. No, I just really enjoy to kick things off with a good time. And that was very fun for me. So I hope everyone else also enjoyed it. And if you're on the line listening and you also thought I was going to say I'm pregnant, my apologies. I am not.
00:19:11
Annie Pyle
My apologies. That's not it. But i I mean, that would be fun to like announce something like that on the podcast. But I mean, anywho...
00:19:17
Mena
Oh, on the podcast. Yeah. Hopefully, hopefully one of our listeners wants to come on and announce their pregnancy on here.
00:19:24
Annie Pyle
Yeah, this is this is the platform to do it, right? You've got you've got listeners that people don't even know. People you even know. You can announce it to us. We'd love to celebrate with you.
00:19:31
Annie Pyle
But anyways, yes, for spiraling, please follow us on social media.
00:19:36
Annie Pyle
We're really going to be putting our best foot forward this season, getting on to some fun trends, really trying to post more clips. We are on a new podcasting platform as of this season, which is super exciting.
00:19:48
Annie Pyle
And um we are learning.
00:19:50
Annie Pyle
There is some Definitely some learning curves for for both of us. You should have seen us messaging each other but before the show because we couldn't hear each other. It was a whole whole thing.
00:19:59
Annie Pyle
But, you know, there's some newness and things like that. But, you know, what's been going on until between now, between the end of season five, the beginning of season six, what's been going on?
Home Renovations & Personal Stories
00:20:09
Annie Pyle
Tell our listeners.
00:20:09
Mena
What has not been going on? um I feel like I have been so busy. i i'm I've gone to the beach. And by beach, I mean 30A. We usually go once a year to thirty a I've gone three times, which is crazy.
00:20:26
Mena
I mean it's a blessing. Don't get me wrong. like Because I love nothing more than 30A. Let's see. My brother got married. i have a new sister. um it was absolutely...
00:20:37
Annie Pyle
Okay. you looked goge You looked gorgeous. I mean, the wedding was beautiful. The wedding was gorgeous.
00:20:40
Annie Pyle
The wedding was beautiful, but you looked
00:20:41
Mena
Thank you. Yes. Chef's kiss loved my dress. Um, I will say, I wish I would have sized down in my dress because it made me look bigger than I was because it was a little too loose.
00:20:53
Mena
And also my son kept pulling my dress down and exposing me. So, because it was so loose in the back, like my bra, like I had to be, someone had to be on bra check for my back.
00:21:03
Mena
because it kept like kind of falling, but I loved the dress. Shout out to Petal and Pup. They were amazing um because they were actually sold out of that dress and that was the bridesmaid's dress I wanted.
00:21:14
Mena
And they worked with me to make sure it would get in stock.
00:21:19
Annie Pyle
That's amazing.
00:21:20
Mena
Yeah, they, I harassed them basically via email. So it's not, I'm giving them a shout out basically being nice to me via email. Yeah.
00:21:29
Annie Pyle
Well, no, because they could simply be like, man, what like sorry like, that's too bad. Like, there are companies that will just be like, that's too bad, so sad. And good for them.
00:21:38
Annie Pyle
for i always This is what I always say, and this isn't mainly in my work life, but home life too. The squeaky wheel gets the oil. So if you're going to sit there and annoy the shit of them, and they're seeing you probably annoy shit of them, and they're answering to that and not ignoring you or being like, I'm sorry.
00:21:53
Annie Pyle
you know, but you got what you needed and the dress was like, you looked, you looked beautiful.
00:21:56
Annie Pyle
mean, again, the whole wedding was beautiful, but you looked great.
00:21:57
Mena
Well, thank you. Thank you. It was stunning. It was gorgeous. It was in Pigeon Forge. Um, Where we stayed, we actually were the only two homes that were next to the venue because this venue, you guys, was literally at the top of the mountain. We were above mountains. It was incredibly scary to drive up. There were nights and days when it would rain that we couldn't even take our car up.
00:22:19
Mena
Thankfully, my brother-in-law, Kyle...
00:22:20
Mena
had a four-wheel drive he rented, and he would literally have to come down, pick us up, and take us to the house because it was like on such an incline. um We saw bears. we i mean, it was just incredible. And to all those wondering, yes, we absolutely took our Dolly Parton queen to Dollywood.
00:22:39
Mena
She had the time of her life. She was in shock most of the time that Dolly's face was on everything and that it was Dolly's place. Beckett also loved it. And honestly, i would highly recommend it Like one, if you love roller coasters, that's the place for you.
00:22:54
Mena
It is packed with roller coasters, but also their kid areas.
00:22:58
Mena
Yeah, it was crazy, but their kid areas, they have two separate kid areas and they were incredible. Avery was able to ride everything in the kid areas and it wasn't just like two or three rides. They were like multiple rides. They could like they could ride like It was so good.
00:23:13
Mena
I would highly recommend going to um Dollywood. I know a lot of people say that. We didn't even get to do everything just because, one, it was literally the day after the wedding. So, you know, mom and dad were feeling it.
00:23:24
Mena
But we toughed through it. We also stayed at one of Dolly Parton's resorts. It was our splurge one night stay, but it was so convenient. It had the bus. We took the bus back and forth from the park.
00:23:38
Mena
It was also so kid friendly. They had a dolly part in kids camp where there was games, coloring. They had s'mores. Like it was just 10 out of 10. I would highly recommend that is such a good um like family oriented trip.
00:23:51
Mena
I would say i next time i would totally love to go to Dolly's Stampede. I guess that's like the, that's kind of like what we did for our senior night with the show, the nighting show, but it's like Dolly Parton themed, I guess, like a stampede.
00:24:02
Mena
I don't know. Anyways, would love to do more, of course, but most importantly, it was so amazing because we had a lot of our family from Paraguay fly in for all those that don't know.
00:24:13
Mena
I know I talk about this all the time that I'm Hispanic, you know, proud Latina human being over here.
00:24:18
Annie Pyle
my little My little Latina mommy here.
00:24:21
Mena
mamacita but mommy mamacita oh my god don't even get into love island i'll spiral anyways it's such a blessing to have so many come like my abuelita has been here they're actually um just left and but yeah yeah abuelita is a blessing on this earth she turned 85 we celebrated her birthday here like
00:24:22
Annie Pyle
Mamacita, mommy, mamacita.
00:24:34
Annie Pyle
and ah Just a blessing on this earth, Abuelita.
00:24:43
Mena
just having that family come and like spend so much time. Like I just, even though I mostly have grown up here in the States longer than I've been in South America, the bond that I have with my family has never left. Like we literally talk to what's up every day. Like it's just still there. And it's when they come visits, like nothing's changed.
00:25:02
Mena
We went to universal. I mean, we did so many things. It was amazing. It was exhausting, but amazing. i like tough through it with working and all of that. Um, i trying I feel like I'm babbling about everything I've done. Like, what else have I done?
00:25:14
Annie Pyle
Well, that's what this is for is to just catch up on because I feel like so much things, I mean, um like Memorial day, what'd you do?
00:25:21
Annie Pyle
You, oh no, you were, that's when you were at the beach or Memorial day, right? you were at the beach.
00:25:24
Mena
yeah Memorial Day, we're at the beach. Like, it's just been so much back to back, but it's also been so fulfilling.
00:25:29
Annie Pyle
But that's what it's all about. That's what it's, that's what all about. That is summer, but also like, if you have the time with your family, like take it.
00:25:38
Annie Pyle
And I'm so happy that we have these little gaps in
00:25:43
Annie Pyle
producing, not producing, that sounds really fancy, but like, okay, producing the podcast. So we can kind of like take the time away that we need, because it does take a lot of creative energy to do this.
00:25:54
Annie Pyle
And you and I love that creative energy, but we also need the time to just like not have to even worry about it.
00:26:01
Annie Pyle
And it makes us come back even better and hopefully funnier and more, don't know, just connected with each other to keep doing this. So you, you deserve to just be go, go, go if you can.
00:26:13
Mena
Thank you. I mean, it's exhausting, but it's amazing at the same time. im But speaking of that, i i am going to transition to you and what you guys have been doing because I think everyone's heard enough from my end.
00:26:25
Mena
um If more stories come up, I will be happy to share, of course. But i just want ever i want to forewarn everyone because... And I told Annie this because like Annie mentioned in the beginning, we do kind of pre-record some episodes and Annie has gotten funnier. I just want everyone to know this ahead in advance of what you are looking forward to hearing because some of the pre-recordings that we have done, you guys i still think about them in my sleep because they're just so funny.
00:26:54
Mena
i like unwell like just so funny so I just want everyone to be prepared for the unhinged like you guys thought I was funny I think it's rubbing off on my co-host over there because some of the things she has said lately in the pre-recordings have been so freaking funny and I'm not going to spoil it because you guys have to tune into the episodes to hear it but they've been great and I know you can agree because you laugh about them too
00:27:15
Annie Pyle
I am, i I know I laugh at myself and I'm like, man, that was really funny. Like that was just off the cuff, really funny. Also, what an honor. um Well, I'm going end up working at an episode. um Thank you for listening so much.
00:27:27
Mena
We're going to end it with that honor. Thank you so much.
00:27:29
Annie Pyle
Yeah. We're going to end on that high of me being so funny this season. Thank you so much for that.
00:27:35
Mena
I mean, it's still young. Like don't lose your pizzazz just by me saying that, like don't lose the pizzazz because it was, it's there.
00:27:39
Annie Pyle
I know, man, and I really,
00:27:41
Annie Pyle
Woo. I gotta, I gotta sharpen the, what is it?
00:27:44
Annie Pyle
What, what my whistle sharpen myself, whatever, is whatever it is.
00:27:44
Mena
No, I'm happy to, yeah. like lala I'm happy to continue just, um you know, fueling that fire and, Because we are on a double video now, you guys can probably see if this going to be clipped.
00:27:59
Mena
Annie has her peasant coming to pour the wine for her.
00:28:05
Annie Pyle
You guys, I had to get more. I was like, Hey, I'm probably going to need some more wine and another jalapeno. He was like, do you like it? I was like, yes.
00:28:11
Mena
Yes, with the jalapeno, it's life-changing. Like, it's honestly...
00:28:13
Annie Pyle
It is, it is elite. This is like a new fresh, um, one that just came out of the freezer. So let's, let's see, hold on.
00:28:19
Mena
I know. oh yeah Oh, with the new one. i think like it probably hasn't thawed enough yet, probably.
00:28:25
Annie Pyle
It's you guys, this is deaf. I mean, this is definitely getting, if I take couple more glasses, this could be dangerous for the corking.
00:28:32
Annie Pyle
This can be very dangerous.
00:28:32
Mena
Yeah, we're getting jalapenos. Okay, done. So anyways, so reverting to you, what's been going on over there? You guys have also had some trips in the books. um You have been very busy as well. I feel like it's go, go, go when it's summertime, um whether it's trips, birthday parties, but what's going on in the pi pow home over there? Like, what have you guys been up to?
00:28:54
Annie Pyle
A million things. And I love it. It makes me so happy. um And as people like know, like my mom, especially mom's like, you're always taking the kids place. You're always doing things. and she like loves it. Like that's not an everything. She said, love to see you guys just out and about. And I'm like I wanted like, there are times where i'm like, we got to go, go, go. And there's times where we were like, we got to take it slow.
00:29:12
Annie Pyle
But yeah, it's been go go, go. So far this summer, it's crazy to think that Charlie, we had not had Charlie's birthday yet when we finished season five.
00:29:22
Annie Pyle
So Charlie has since turned three and she is as sassy as ever.
00:29:30
Annie Pyle
You guys, she is so funny, but she is, she's naughty. Like I think I've said that a million times and it's, it stays true. It wasn't terrible. It is, it was terrible too.
00:29:41
Annie Pyle
So now it's naughty threes, naughty threes.
00:29:44
Mena
everyone say that no i everyone warns about terrible twos i experienced terrible threes so oh my god
00:29:49
Annie Pyle
Yeah, it's, But she's cute. And she, you know, you know i she can, sometimes when I look at her, I'm like, she can do no wrong. And maybe that's why she is the way she is.
00:30:00
Annie Pyle
But neither here nor there. But that was right around Memorial Day weekend.
00:30:03
Annie Pyle
And I can't remember, my gosh, where was her? ah was it was at the park. Oh my God, that was, I'm not even gonna go into it. That was the park when it was raining.
00:30:11
Annie Pyle
Talk about sweating. i was just nervous wreck with the, there was issues with the weather, the food, all this stuff. But you know what? She was, she had a frozen, Elsa birthday party.
00:30:22
Annie Pyle
it was, you know, she was happy.
00:30:24
Mena
And you know what? All she will remember is she had a party. She had her friends there. She had cake. She got presents. And it was ah theme that she loved. So check, check, check, maybe.
00:30:34
Annie Pyle
Exactly. Exactly. She's good. She's doing great. So we also just went a few weeks back. We went to my parents' house for the fourth and my brother and his family there were there. My sister and her family were there.
00:30:48
Annie Pyle
Um, my parents have a really great, like, um, uh, like, I don't want to say like a state, it's like a destination home. Cause we have, they have like the back patio, they have a huge pool and like patio area where we can just kind of like be for the day.
00:31:01
Annie Pyle
The kids love it. We rented a boat for a day. So it was very just like, it was a nice, it was nice be able to get away. And Greg and I both work from home. So we're able to go there for the week, work for a couple of days, take a few days off ahead of 4th of July and really take advantage of being
00:31:16
Annie Pyle
with our family. I literally came, but right before we started recording, I wrote stuff down because you know, my memory, I'd be like, I, I i don't know what I did in my mind.
00:31:26
Annie Pyle
I did nothing, but then I was like, okay, let me, let me recall, um, what I've done.
00:31:31
Annie Pyle
So Aubrey started her job. I can't remember if I was already said that, but Aubrey started a job and she, can you believe that?
00:31:37
Mena
has a yob, you guys, yob. Yeah.
00:31:40
Annie Pyle
It's so funny because it's in the hospitality industry and she'll come home talking and like sharing stories. And I'm like, yep, like all things that I have heard and seen and done and thought, like literally everything she says, I'm like, yeah, I've been there.
00:31:54
Annie Pyle
or I've had a story like that. I've had a coworker like that. I've had a customer like that, like things we can all relate to.
00:32:01
Mena
1000%, everyone should always, always, always work firsthand in some sort of hospitality style job. Whether it's a hostess, a server, ah whatever it may be that involves other people.
00:32:16
Mena
Because boy, will it humble you. it will grow you. And ah will you will just learn so much from it.
00:32:27
Annie Pyle
Yeah. You learn so much about other people and situations. You also learn about how you're yourself and how you react to the way you are treated, the way other people are in that situation.
00:32:38
Annie Pyle
So I absolutely, i absolutely agree with you.
00:32:41
Annie Pyle
um Something you don't know, we're getting our backyard redone.
00:32:45
Mena
oh my gosh finally this has been a dream what's happening tell us everything the full thing it's her oh jealous
00:32:46
Annie Pyle
A dream, finally. Pavers
00:32:52
Annie Pyle
and turf. And turf. turving the whole, turving the whole rest of the yard. it was going to originally be pavers. It's, um, people that my friends have used their family had like so many people we know have used them.
00:33:05
Annie Pyle
And I, and it, it, I've wanted to this.
00:33:07
Annie Pyle
We lived in this house for seven years. It was a new build. We bought it brand new and we've always wanted to do it And we were just like, I don't know. We've always used the money for something else or done other things.
00:33:18
Annie Pyle
Um, and I went to a friend's house who they just bought a new home. And I saw it before the pavers went in. And then I saw it after the pavers went in. And I was like, all right, send me his name. And i was only originally going to do pavers.
00:33:31
Annie Pyle
And right now we were going through some issues with patchiness in the grass, like things dying.
00:33:35
Annie Pyle
Our like lawn people were like, oh, it'll grow back. Like it just needs to be watered. I'm sorry. We live in Florida. It rains every day and it's still dead. Like are we are we looking at the same lawn?
00:33:46
Annie Pyle
So he was back there and we were talking about the pavers. He was like have you thought about turf? And it wasn't like my mom was like, oh, he he was good at upselling. I'm like, no, it was the most natural s thing.
00:33:58
Annie Pyle
And I was like, no, but yeah, we're going to do that. Like we're going to do turf.
00:34:03
Annie Pyle
So I'm so excited.
00:34:04
Annie Pyle
By the time this episode airs, it will both it'll all be done. In this current state, it is just pavers and they're doing turf tomorrow. um
00:34:12
Mena
um I need photos immediately. i want to see.
00:34:14
Annie Pyle
Insane. Insane. I'm so excited. I have photos on my phone, but i'm not going do this.
00:34:18
Mena
Right, right, right. No, you just text me that offline.
00:34:20
Annie Pyle
So it's all happened very quickly. But me and Greg both were like, yep, done. Yep. Okay, great. Let's go.
00:34:26
Mena
Just because you're going to love to be able to spend more time in your backyard now. Like we have talked about um like our backyard, like one of the sides is very flat and it's just a straight long line. But the same thing, our grass is dead. It's not growing. It's just weeds in a dead central. So Ben's always talking about like, why don't we turf it?
00:34:44
Mena
And it's is is it turf when you do like a little mini golf area?
00:34:49
Annie Pyle
Yes, it's still, yeah, it's still turf.
00:34:50
Mena
Yeah. yeah So he just wants to set that entire row for like a little putt-putt mini golf. And I'm like, do it. Like we're going to die in this home. I will never be able to get the interest rate that we have in this home again.
00:35:01
Mena
So like, just do it because ah might as well enjoy the backyard.
00:35:02
Annie Pyle
No. Do your thing. Do your thing.
00:35:07
Mena
Right. So I'm so excited for you guys because this has truly been a lifelong dream, if you will, for quite some time for you.
00:35:15
Mena
Um, so I'm so happy that you finally bit the bullet and I cannot wait to see it. Oh my God. You have to send me pictures.
00:35:20
Annie Pyle
I know. I'm so excited. Yeah. He asked Greg, cause we have a little strip on the side of our house too. And he's like, Mr. Greg, he's like, do you like to golf? And I was like, oh man, here we go. So we like tossed around the idea it.
00:35:30
Annie Pyle
Greg was I don't if big enough to truly like take advantage of it, like a little putting green, like hole.
00:35:36
Annie Pyle
So we're just going to, we're turfing and then we're putting on some big rocks and I'll do some plants, um, on one of the sides. So, but we're super excited, super excited about that.
00:35:45
Annie Pyle
And then I did Morgan Wallen in Miami, which if you're counting, yes, this is the third time I've seen Morgan Wallen. It was the best he has been. i so I'm very, very happy that I went because the first two times I saw him, he was just, there was always some things going on.
00:36:03
Mena
He was not in his best state. I think he's got, I think as he's growing older, he's realizing like a lot, you know,
00:36:09
Annie Pyle
yeah, yeah, yeah. When it's like his, like your fans are like, we're trying, we're really trying
Concerts & Music Accountability
00:36:15
Annie Pyle
really trying we're really trying to hang on here so that i mean the first two um concerts i went to he like cut songs like one of the first one was at the amphitheater and then he he like canceled everything for the next few months and then when he was at raymond james he canceled the show the next night at raymond james like it was just a lot and so he looked and sounded and like the energy was just so good so i'm so freaking happy that we that i went
00:36:40
Mena
Good. Honestly, as as someone who loves Morgan Wallen's music, but not the person itself, I'm happy to hear this because maybe this will, maybe he just needs another year of growth before I i go and see him in concert.
00:36:52
Mena
But I am jealous of the fact that his opener was Miranda Lambert because the i would love, okay, can we normalize this? Can we please normalize famous people being openers? Like I get like everyone needs their spotlight. Gracie Adams has clearly thrived off of being a nobody opener and now to this huge success.
00:37:09
Mena
But I also want to see a famous person. like I'm down for seeing Miranda Lambert before Morgan Wallet. I love that for that concert.
00:37:16
Annie Pyle
Yes, and she played like all of her hits. And so it was like, this is so cool. It's also crazy. think that Miranda Lambert is opening for Morgan Wallen. But it was so good.
00:37:26
Annie Pyle
And there was somebody else before him. I can't remember the guy's name. Gavin. Gavin Adcock.
00:37:31
Annie Pyle
have No. my God. um and then and then Saturday was Brooks and Dunn.
00:37:36
Annie Pyle
So, which is great.
00:37:38
Annie Pyle
Which is great. I know.
00:37:39
Annie Pyle
Which is so crazy. Yes. Yeah. So, anywho, he did an incredible job.
00:37:43
Annie Pyle
I would recommend a few... are thinking you of going when he's coming.
00:37:46
Mena
Maybe next year. Think of me next year. If he continues on his growth path, I'm happy to support him.
00:37:52
Mena
Again, I love his music. Ben, and I've said this before, Ben is not a country music guy, but he loves also Morgan Wallen's music because he doesn't just talk about trucks and dirt.
00:38:00
Mena
So like, he's very much.
00:38:01
Annie Pyle
He just talks about, yeah, he just talks about his heartbreak and drinking, but we love him for it.
00:38:05
Mena
Right. But we love him for it.
00:38:05
Annie Pyle
We love you. MW. My gosh.
00:38:07
Mena
well, I just need to continue to see the growth in him. Like again, you know, and, and I said this, Justin Bieber went through it.
00:38:16
Mena
Miley Cyrus went through it. I think he should, he, he's going through his growth process now.
00:38:21
Mena
Like he is shedding off that layer of like, I did some stupid shit and now he's, so I'm happy for him. Honestly, I'm happy for him and I'm happy for his fans because now they can actually support someone and not feel bad.
00:38:32
Mena
they go, you know, you know, he like threw chairs and almost hit a cop, right? Like,
00:38:36
Mena
they can move past that era, you know?
00:38:38
Annie Pyle
Yeah. Well, his, his album is called I'm the problem. And he's saying that during the show and they had a huge, you would have died.
00:38:42
Mena
I love that song. Love that song.
00:38:45
Annie Pyle
ah have to find um a video to show you. He had like a huge screen above his, like the stage and all of it was news articles and clips of things that he has done and stuff that's coming out about him, like all of this stuff.
00:39:00
Annie Pyle
And I was like, good for him to just being like, like I'm the part, like, yes.
00:39:05
Mena
Accountability. I can support accountability. Okay.
00:39:08
Mena
I can move past if you're accountable for your actions. And I would honestly, I wish I would have gone to have seen that because that would have probably reset him in my mind.
00:39:17
Mena
Because I'm about accountability.
00:39:17
Annie Pyle
It was so good.
00:39:18
Mena
Like I love because I love that song.
00:39:21
Mena
And I kind of can, I can um like when you hear it, when you hear that song, you can kind of hear like the tone in his voice. Like he really truly is realizing like, holy shit, like I am the problem.
00:39:32
Mena
Like I did all these things.
00:39:34
Mena
And this has now turned into a Morgan Wallen podcast.
00:39:37
Annie Pyle
Bye. You guys, I um i didn't do anything else or anything.
00:39:39
Mena
Yeah. But we're now just deviating to that. But no, like that has been my problem with him. Like, I just feel like, how can I like, like somebody that doesn't, that's not a nice person. And that's not doing nice. Like if you're on a platform like that, I expect more of you, you know, like if you're on a high platform, I expect you.
00:39:56
Mena
But again, like, I also, i feel like I'm saying that as a double standard because I like Miley Cyrus. I like Justin Bieber. And let's not even talk about the Biebs. First of all, shout out new album. Have not listened yet. Looking forward to it.
00:40:07
Mena
But like, again, he's also going through it again. Like he's on a spiral, you know, that's i'm saying.
00:40:13
Mena
Like I feel, but like it's like a spiral, but I do love his music.
00:40:15
Annie Pyle
It's like, it's kind of like a little roller coaster, but
00:40:19
Mena
Like I love it. And I, I, like I said, I wish I would have gone to that concert to have seen that because I love someone that can take accountability and to take accountability in public like that on his platform, on his show, on his concert.
00:40:31
Mena
Good for him. I'll give him that.
00:40:32
Annie Pyle
yeah. Yeah, it was good.
00:40:34
Annie Pyle
I'll have to send it. I'll find a video and show you. um but yeah, this is now Morgan Wallen. It's now a Morgan Wallen podcast.
00:40:41
Annie Pyle
But no, I'm kidding. um I got my hair done as you complimented before before the episode started.
00:40:46
Annie Pyle
um I love it and I'm so happy with it. I got my hair done. And then when this episode drops next week, I'll be on ah true family vacation, living living life out, I guess it's west.
00:40:57
Annie Pyle
Yeah, west with my but my family.
00:41:00
Annie Pyle
So I will talk all about that when we're when we're back, but I'm super excited. Yeah. When this drops, we'll be.
00:41:07
Mena
And I'm hopeful that Coming soon, sometime in August, too, we are going to, um I'm going to relive this and rehash this for you because now i'm I've looked at flights.
00:41:19
Mena
um ah Hopefully, we can take a little girl's trip away to good old Nashville. But um I looked at flights two days ago.
00:41:24
Annie Pyle
we listen, listen.
00:41:28
Mena
So that was just my inner thoughts.
00:41:31
Annie Pyle
Okay, great. Cause i was going to text you today about it because a little birdie told me little birdie told me that you were very interested.
00:41:36
Annie Pyle
And I said, Ooh, tweet, tweet, bitch. Let's go.
00:41:42
Mena
Tweet, tweet, bitch, let's go.
00:41:47
Annie Pyle
to swallow my wine.
00:41:49
Annie Pyle
had to swallow my wine.
00:41:50
Annie Pyle
Anywho, yes, things to come.
00:41:51
Mena
I have things to come.
00:41:52
Annie Pyle
Who knows? Who knows?
00:41:54
Mena
A lot has happened. i will say this summer we also, um not going to expose our business out there, but we did experience some very low lows umm in the Fray household, but now we're back on a high.
Parenting Challenges & Routine Changes
00:42:08
Mena
nothing that needs to go into detail. It's over and everyone's fine. Everyone's healthy. We're all well.
00:42:13
Annie Pyle
Nothing relationship wise.
00:42:14
Mena
Nothing relationship.
00:42:14
Annie Pyle
I'm like that.
00:42:15
Mena
Praise God. Praise God. Just saying that there were some low lows, um but we have overcome them.
00:42:15
Annie Pyle
Let's put that, let's put that all out there.
00:42:22
Mena
And so now like, I'm just like in a state of like YOLO, you know, like you only live once. Like I want to really like, yes.
00:42:32
Mena
Oh my gosh. We just, well, I'm deviating ins instantly. I'm a squirrel. You know this, but
00:42:38
Mena
my beautiful, handsome, sweet, kind, loving six-year-old husband really testing my patience lately. But I just need to start reminding myself like YOLO, my YOLO mentality, like he's just going through it. Emotions are high. I get it. my God, have the emotions been there?
00:42:54
Mena
Like bedtime has been ah very, very big patience tester lately. Like I, i
00:43:00
Annie Pyle
I think you said six year old husband. I think you said husband and I was like, does she mean 36, but he's not 36.
00:43:04
Mena
did I say six-year-old husband?
00:43:07
Mena
No. Oh my gosh. No. I'm talking about Beckett.
00:43:09
Mena
I'm talking about my child. Did I say husband? Well,
00:43:09
Annie Pyle
I know I thought you were, then I'm pretty husband or we could, we could listen to this back and you'd be like, Annie, I, okay.
00:43:15
Annie Pyle
Also, I don't know.
00:43:17
Annie Pyle
Either way, you're talking about Beckett, your son.
00:43:19
Mena
Anyways, I'm talking about Beckett. Just bedtime has been very like patient testing lately. Like every little thing is like sloth mode. You guys like I'm to the point that I'm like, all right, we're no longer doing TV before bedtime. Like,
00:43:32
Mena
we are going to find an activity. I'm cutting TV off. Let's see if that changes anything just because it has just been so like, I have to repeat myself way too much, which I know that's normal.
00:43:43
Mena
I get it. Don't come for me. I get it, but more so than normal. So it's like to the point that I'm like, I need to cut something out to see if there's an improvement.
00:43:52
Mena
but Maybe like i need to wind down a different way, you know, because
00:43:53
Annie Pyle
Change it up. Yeah. Yep.
00:43:57
Annie Pyle
Yep. Well, think we all, I am with you there because I have also experienced that too. And that's like, we have found that if she's watching something or seeing something and around bedtime, If I so have to say it more than twice, all right, now it's time to put it down or turn it off and we're done.
00:44:18
Annie Pyle
And then that will bleed into the next day. If it if it's a continuous thing, it's not a one-time minute and she's done. But if it's a continuous thing where it's like two or three nights in a row where that happens, all right, we're done.
00:44:28
Annie Pyle
Because I'd like to let her at the end of the night, once Charlie's in bed, I'd like to let her watch what she wants to watch for maybe 30, 45 minutes.
00:44:35
Annie Pyle
But if you literally completely just, should I'm not there, mm-mm. No, this is a privilege. And if you're not gonna listen to mommy or daddy, you're gonna, it's gonna be taken away.
00:44:43
Mena
Right. Right. And that's like, that's where I'm at. Like I'm trying to get him to understand like, this is a privilege. Like you, you get to stay up. 20, 30 minutes later than your sister because you're older because you, you know, you, you want your own space. You want your own wind down time. I get that.
00:45:00
Mena
And I get it. Like sometimes I just want to veg out on the TV. Like, but at the end of the day, like my dude, bedtime is bedtime.
00:45:08
Mena
Like you're pushing it. Like I, and it's just like one of those like whosa moments. Like I'm not going to say it again. I'm not going to say it again. or you're just go upstairs by yourself. Go potty, brush your teeth, tuck yourself into bed.
00:45:20
Mena
If you want mommy's help and you want to read a book and you want to do the full 45 minute routine, I swear it's 45 minutes long. on Because now too, I'm letting him read the books, right?
00:45:31
Mena
We're in that stage.
00:45:34
Mena
Lord, I'm, I'm going to send this out to all of you. Please pray for me. I do not have the patience for children learning to read.
00:45:41
Mena
It is the most difficult thing.
00:45:43
Annie Pyle
is so hard. It is so hard.
00:45:44
Mena
It's so precious and so cute. And I love when he gets like a long word, right? Like incredible. Like tonight tonight he read incredible or he read, you know, overwhelming.
00:45:55
Mena
And when he gets those big words, I'm like, yes, but he's getting it.
00:45:56
Annie Pyle
Mm-hmm. Yes. He's getting it. He's getting it. But say give me a nu it's like, give me another two months where you're really good at it, and then mommy will start reading the books with you.
00:46:06
Annie Pyle
But until then, um out.
00:46:09
Mena
You guys, I like, we truly need, we need all the patience in the world for children learning how to read. Like, again, we say this all the time.
00:46:18
Mena
Teachers, I love you. and love you. You're a saint. You're a literal angel on earth sent from the heavens above. Because how do you do this with more than you're just one child?
00:46:30
Annie Pyle
I can't, I would lose, I would lose my mind.
00:46:33
Annie Pyle
i would lose my mind. I can't imagine. No, I'm, I'm right there with you because it is, it's such a struggle, but yes, then when they actually get it and you start seeing them and they're like reading more advanced books and they're saying bigger words, you're like,
00:46:47
Annie Pyle
Like you, like, yes, you got this. Or they want to read, you know, they want to like, he'll, or not he'll, but like when he'll start to read books with Avery, like, does he do that now where he wants to read Avery's books to her?
00:46:57
Annie Pyle
it Kenny does that too.
00:46:59
Annie Pyle
And it is just so easy. Oh, I want to read. It's like, oh, I want to read the book. It's like, yes, yes, you do. Like that is so sweet.
00:47:05
Mena
I melt but then it's also like okay it's 45 minutes deep and we're on page 10 and there's 25 pages
00:47:12
Annie Pyle
this is going to be a chapter book tonight. Chapter one, chapter two. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, this is a chapter book tonight. This kid's book is now a chapter book and it's going to be two chapters. And depending on how tomorrow goes, if you don't, if overwhelming doesn't sound the same tomorrow night, it's going to be three chapters, baby.
00:47:26
Mena
literally like why can you say overwhelming but forever it takes forever to read like what
00:47:36
Mena
for for four boy just split it in half you know both of the words just combine it like you guys I anyways pray for us as we both go into first grade because first grade is like the deep deep it's not just sight words it's like the deep reading intel but also oh my gosh
00:47:40
Annie Pyle
Forever, forever, forever. any thing Anything, anything.
00:47:47
Annie Pyle
Oh my God. Oh my God. We've had, we've just had so we've had so much going on.
00:47:57
Annie Pyle
I feel like you guys, we have, we put in some work in this off season.
Podcast Dynamics & Listener Engagement
00:48:01
Annie Pyle
I will say like hats off to us. I'm super proud of us because last season, if you guys listened, it was all Jamina and I, we just ran into some bumps in the road, some things that happened and not on anyone's part.
00:48:15
Annie Pyle
But we just kind of like had some, we weren't able to get guests on in the way that we wanted to. And so we were like, at a certain point, we were like, let's just pause it.
00:48:25
Annie Pyle
Like we're, this is going to be a season of you and me we'll recalibrate, relook at everything going into season six. I'm so proud of us because we've got some amazing guests this season that I really cannot wait.
00:48:39
Annie Pyle
We've recorded with a couple of them already. We've got a few more to come. And I just cannot wait. They're all so different, but the topics and the discussion, it's just, I can't wait for you guys to listen and just be, and i can't wait.
00:48:55
Annie Pyle
It's going be great.
00:48:56
Mena
Yeah, it's unreal. It's unfiltered because if you know us, you know we're very unfiltered. We keep it professional, but we are still very unfiltered. But also, like, I, the one thing that upsets me about guests is, like, i want to hang out with them the next day.
00:49:10
Annie Pyle
I want to be their friend.
00:49:11
Annie Pyle
i want to be their friend.
00:49:12
Mena
aye I want to be your friend forever. Like I'm going to constantly message you now on all social media platforms. Like be my friend forever. Like you are the best person I've ever talked to.
00:49:23
Mena
Like just, that's like the one upsetting thing. Like I hope they feel the same way because otherwise I'm just annoying the hell out of them. Like I am just continuing to.
00:49:31
Annie Pyle
Like I, I think they have fun and we've, we've gotten in comments where it's like, this is more like a chat. Like, I don't feel like I'm, pressured, asking questions like on a podcast. like I feel like this is more just very like easygoing chat with friends.
00:49:44
Annie Pyle
And that is our goal, even between ourselves. like this is never
00:49:49
Annie Pyle
We don't ever want it to feel like a chore or two script or anything like that. So that's what we hope to bring our guests into. And we've gotten some comments like that, which is which is nice to hear.
00:49:59
Mena
That's refreshing because
00:50:00
Annie Pyle
But it is. It's very...
00:50:02
Mena
We don't want anyone to feel pressured. Like we want it to be fun. Like that's why we come on here. That's that's literally why this started. It was a way for us to literally vent and have a glass of wine because that's how we wind down. And that's our version of winding down at the end of the day.
00:50:18
Mena
So to like include the guests portion of it and let them also experience that and get those comments and feedback is really nice. It's refreshing to know that we're doing something right, which we knew we were.
00:50:30
Mena
Like we may not be Emmy nominated, but like we should be.
00:50:32
Annie Pyle
We have our own validation by ourselves, okay? We do not need outside opinions or validation, but it is nice to have, okay? It is this very nice to have.
00:50:41
Mena
It's very nice to have when they come.
00:50:42
Annie Pyle
Yeah, so come on our episode or else.
00:50:47
Mena
That's what we need to do. We need to do that video. um indian These are our guests and you better be nice to them. Better blow them up in the comments.
00:50:56
Annie Pyle
We actually should. We actually should. Also when Jamina mentioned HR earlier, you guys were not making money in the sense of having an HR. The HR is me.
00:51:04
Annie Pyle
I am HR. So just in case anyone's new here, when she mentions HR, it's usually me.
00:51:11
Annie Pyle
I try not to be HR, but sometimes I gotta like put on that little
00:51:14
Mena
No, no. Someone needs to be HR and it's best that it's you because if I was HR, we would have been canceled season one. but Because there's a lot of things that, again, I'm not, I did not grow Can I say I didn't grow up in this country?
00:51:28
Mena
I mean, I wasn't born in this country. Like there's a lot of things that I don't know like terminologies, you know, that may not be appropriate, and but I think are just silly and funny.
00:51:40
Mena
And and he's like, nope, no. no
00:51:43
Annie Pyle
She'll see my eyes get really big and she's like, um, and then one time I went to the grocery store and went shopping by.
00:51:48
Mena
Yeah. I have to pivot so quickly, which is so easy for me because I pivot at any moment in time.
00:51:49
Annie Pyle
Yeah. Just diverts, diverts.
00:51:54
Mena
I am the definition of unmedicated ADHD.
00:52:00
Annie Pyle
And that's me. Oh my God.
00:52:02
Mena
Self-diagnosed, of course, self-diagnosed. But um no, I'm so excited for the season. We have so, so much good stuff coming up. Great wines. Yeah. coming up to try um that's why we kind of like wanted to to do this like viral trend for like the beginning wine because one yeah
00:52:21
Annie Pyle
And do a wine that we liked because sometimes we like last season we had some, some misses and we knew that we had already rated this wine like decently high. So we're like, give ourselves a good wine, add in the trending jalapenos to it. and also, um, I keep taking this as my water.
00:52:36
Mena
let's see what happens
00:52:39
Annie Pyle
I love my Stanley, but, and this is not sponsored. love my Stanley, but I'm a hydro jug girly now.
00:52:46
Annie Pyle
Thanks to Amazon prime day.
00:52:48
Mena
Yes. Same, same, same, same. My children have switched to Hydrojug. We went from Simple Modern. Our Simple Moderns, we love them. Don't get me wrong. Absolutely love them. They keep the ice cold. They're absolutely amazing.
00:52:59
Mena
But they have just been beat up because we've had them for a couple years.
00:53:01
Annie Pyle
Speed up. Because you bring them everywhere and they they can take it.
00:53:06
Mena
everywhere so I have also recently switched to the hydro jug and but I actually switched to the one that's not the side handle I switched the one that's the top handle and it has changed my life for the gym like it has absolutely because I used to take my Stanley and i yes so much
00:53:21
Annie Pyle
I had an accident at the at at Barry's with the Stanley and it knocked over without me knowing it. And a girl was back there like during workout cleaning up my water. I was like, I want to literally...
00:53:33
Annie Pyle
die so that's why i had to get one of these and i'm so obsessed like the straw like you guys this is not this is not in any way sponsored but like i'm
00:53:35
Mena
1000% with a straw folding. Yes.
00:53:41
Mena
No, it was on a major deal for prime day, which by the way, we did try to do Amazon deals on prime day. It was four days long. i tried my best to get everyone the best deals on the first day.
00:53:52
Mena
and And then I just stopped because honestly, like everything was posted on the first day. Like I did not see anything else pop up that was worth even sharing.
00:53:59
Annie Pyle
No, but you did amazing because I was like, oh, I like to buy this. i like to buy this. And you were just toooo dooooot on there.
00:54:04
Mena
i I literally love, i I love Prime Day.
00:54:08
Mena
Like, i it's my Super Bowl. I will be happy to always post. Like, I think it's so fun finding the deals.
00:54:13
Annie Pyle
there were some, there were some really good deals. There were some really good deals this time.
00:54:16
Mena
So many good deals. So many good deals, especially on skincare. um i I don't want to say how many orders I had because actually and doesn't listen, so.
00:54:26
Annie Pyle
I had to, I have stuff, so I have stuff still, I have stuff still that's still on its way now.
00:54:31
Mena
Oh, 1,000%. Because you,
00:54:31
Annie Pyle
so no big deal.
00:54:35
Mena
I will tell you like, It's better to like go ahead and buy it and just return it. I'm like, if you change your mind, just return it.
00:54:40
Mena
But I will say HydroJug, not sponsored at all. I love it. I've loved it so far.
00:54:46
Mena
It does not spill whatsoever. Got the kids the 20 ounce for school.
00:54:53
Mena
I got myself the 32 ounce for the gym and just to take like toggle around because I want to be able to put in my bag. Honestly, that was my one thing that was missing for my Stanley.
00:55:00
Mena
I love my Stanley too, but I need to be able to throw it in the bag. Okay. So 10 out of 10. love it literally sipping well can i can i can i pause to refill i mean i'm happy to continue chatting
00:55:07
Annie Pyle
Right. I'm not veering from the Stanley, but hydro jug is being added into the rotation specifically for workout. So, okay. I'm going to segue back into the wine because I'm almost done with my second glass and I'm kind of concerned and you're literally sipping on jalapeno water right there or jalapeno wine. And I'm very concerned about this.
00:55:28
Annie Pyle
How are you feeling? This is this, this.
00:55:33
Annie Pyle
I mean, we could probably pause and just come back if you wanted a little bit more of wine to finish the corking with. I can just kind of edit it out.
00:55:41
Annie Pyle
I hear her in the vicinity with her refilled glass.
00:55:47
Mena
And I brought my frozen jalapenos.
00:55:47
Annie Pyle
Oh my God. And, and the bag of frozen jalapenos.
00:55:51
Mena
Yeah, I brought it back.
00:55:53
Annie Pyle
Not the ASMR with the bag. Come on, let's do it.
00:55:55
Mena
Oh, can you hear it?
Wine Hacks & ASMR Experiments
00:55:58
Mena
I'm going to be putting jalapenos in my sauvignon blanc.
00:56:01
Annie Pyle
Okay. Okay. Give it to us. We want to hear it.
00:56:04
Mena
Let's see if you can hear it.
00:56:04
Annie Pyle
that sounded really yes drop it in I couldn't hear the drop but I saw it and loved it
00:56:14
Mena
Guys, honestly, I get why people are behind ASMR. It's kind of fun to whisper.
00:56:18
Annie Pyle
I know I gotta I like to do it and then I like to see you do it because I think it's funny you guys someone's probably pausing this episode being like I fucking hate
00:56:31
Annie Pyle
Anywho, okay, let's cork this wine because mine's definitely getting higher than an eight and yours was an 8.2 last time. so
00:56:39
Mena
I mean, you can tell, oh my gosh. Okay. So I also brought like a tiny little fan cause I was, you know, spicing it up in my little closet office here.
00:56:44
Annie Pyle
I saw that pop into the screen. i did. I did see you coming.
00:56:46
Mena
Oh, did you see my little fan?
00:56:48
Mena
So if you see little wispies flying away, that's motherhood. Okay. They're still growing, but I did add three more jalapenos in here. guys, I'm blown away by this hack.
00:57:05
Annie Pyle
It's so good. It's so good. Okay. When I come visit you in a couple of weeks, have probably two bottles of the Savi B and like three whole jalapenos.
00:57:13
Mena
Jalapeno's frozen, ready to go.
00:57:14
Annie Pyle
Yeah. Ready to go.
00:57:15
Mena
Yeah. Like it's unhinged.
00:57:16
Annie Pyle
Great. This is wonderful.
00:57:19
Mena
The content that would will be filmed will be unhinged.
00:57:22
Annie Pyle
It's going to be so silly. I can't wait. I can't wait. um Okay.
00:57:25
Mena
Will be unhinged. Yeah.
00:57:26
Annie Pyle
Season two, I rated, I corked this in eight. You corked it in 8.2. Do you think that you are ready
00:57:35
Annie Pyle
with your new corking.
00:57:38
Annie Pyle
Oh my God. Okay. but
00:57:39
Mena
I'd like no doubt in my mind. i feel like I already knew my corking after those first couple steps.
00:57:47
Annie Pyle
Wow. Okay. Oh, wow. When you get down to like the little depths here, it's really new and it's so good.
00:57:55
Mena
It's so good. i know. I'm kind of sad that I refilled. im and I'm not sad, let's be honest. But that those last couple few steps were just like hitting spice.
00:58:09
Annie Pyle
so good oh my gosh cloudy bay okay again we're gonna drinking cloudy bay sauvignon blanc we have added the trendy viral whatever you want to call it uh frozen jalapenos to this and it is it has kicked it up a notch so give us your corking i have mine give us your corking
00:58:28
Mena
So my previous corking was 8.2. I have bumped this up because it has really transformed this Sauvignon Blanc. I have bumped it up to an 8.7.
00:58:39
Mena
Like that is how, ah honestly, I'm debating 8.8. I was teeter-toring between 0.8 and 0.7, but I'm just going to keep it at 0.7 and keep it kosher. It's the first, first one of the season.

01:03:50
Mena
So You're welcome to Ben and Greg, because I literally just went out to refill my wine and that's exactly what they're doing.
