Introduction to Salman and Expat Brad Podcast

00:00:05
Speaker
Hey, hey, everyone.
00:00:07
Speaker
It's Salman Qureshi, and you're listening to the Expat Brad Podcast, man.
00:00:11
Speaker
How are you guys doing?
00:00:13
Speaker
I have started falling in love with podcasting, not going to lie.
00:00:17
Speaker
It's... It just...
00:00:21
Speaker
I don't know why I enjoy it.
00:00:23
Speaker
I enjoy putting together this stuff.
00:00:25
Speaker
I don't know if you guys enjoy listening to it, but I enjoy putting this out there.
00:00:32
Speaker
All right.
00:00:32
Speaker
And it's not about you.
00:00:35
Speaker
It's about me said every failed business ever, I think.
00:00:41
Speaker
But this is good, man.

Exploring Algiers: Beauty and Tourism

00:00:43
Speaker
I'm currently in Algiers, Algeria.
00:00:47
Speaker
Algiers is the capital.
00:00:48
Speaker
I don't know if I'm saying it.
00:00:49
Speaker
I've been here four or five days.
00:00:51
Speaker
You'd think I would learn something like this, right?
00:00:53
Speaker
Algiers.
00:00:54
Speaker
And it's really special.
00:00:55
Speaker
I got to tell you, Algeria is just, I don't know.
00:01:02
Speaker
You come here and you go, why aren't tourists flocking here?
00:01:07
Speaker
to this place because you know those travel vloggers and stuff just running to this place and filling it up with social media crap out there telling everyone how great it is and it should be because you know
00:01:24
Speaker
Firstly, the place naturally is just beautiful.
00:01:26
Speaker
You know what I saw this morning?
00:01:28
Speaker
I saw a rainbow, right?
00:01:31
Speaker
For some of you, maybe it doesn't mean much, but this wasn't, I've seen like faint rainbows.
00:01:37
Speaker
This was a rainbow straight out of a movie.
00:01:40
Speaker
All right.
00:01:40
Speaker
This rainbow was like bright, like red, like it.
00:01:43
Speaker
This rainbow was like, I have a pot of gold at the end of me if you can get to me.
00:01:50
Speaker
And, you know, it was incredible because it kind of started.
00:01:52
Speaker
So the place where I was looking at it from is this exhibition hall they call the CIC Center out here.
00:02:01
Speaker
And from one side, it was kind of like there's these huge trees.
00:02:04
Speaker
I don't know what they're called, but when I say huge, like, you know, those canopy type ones that just have like a tall kind of bark.
00:02:12
Speaker
But then the top is just like a mushroom, right?
00:02:16
Speaker
Like huge ones, huge.
00:02:18
Speaker
And he was like Trump would say.
00:02:21
Speaker
And it starts off from that side, like from the land.
00:02:24
Speaker
And then on my right side was the Mediterranean Sea.
00:02:28
Speaker
And the other side of it was like coming out of the water.
00:02:31
Speaker
You know, it was so beautiful.
00:02:33
Speaker
And the side that was coming out of the water was like extra bright.
00:02:36
Speaker
Maybe there's a bit more sunshine on that side.
00:02:39
Speaker
I think that was it.
00:02:40
Speaker
And so it was just, you could see it arcing up and then there were clouds in the sky.
00:02:47
Speaker
So you couldn't see
00:02:48
Speaker
like it touching, but you could tell that it's like the rainbow arc.
00:02:53
Speaker
And I've never seen the full thing.
00:02:56
Speaker
I've only seen like one side of it or whatever.
00:02:59
Speaker
And like I said, really faint.
00:03:01
Speaker
This was so vivid.
00:03:03
Speaker
It was LGBTQ.
00:03:07
Speaker
It was so bright and clear.
00:03:10
Speaker
It was amazing.
00:03:12
Speaker
And I was just taking it back and was with a bunch of people.
00:03:16
Speaker
And we were all like, wow, this is incredible.
00:03:19
Speaker
And then I sent it to my wife.
00:03:20
Speaker
And she's like, I'm glad.
00:03:22
Speaker
I'm glad you still get excited about rainbows.
00:03:24
Speaker
Yeah.
00:03:27
Speaker
And I was like, yeah, I do.
00:03:29
Speaker
I do.
00:03:29
Speaker
I think I haven't seen enough, maybe.
00:03:33
Speaker
But it was nice, man.
00:03:34
Speaker
What a way to start your morning off, right?
00:03:36
Speaker
It's been nice and cool here.

Cultural and Social Insights of Algeria

00:03:38
Speaker
It's drizzled a few times.
00:03:39
Speaker
It's rained heavy a day or two.
00:03:42
Speaker
It's like...
00:03:43
Speaker
The temperature I love, it's like 10 degrees Celsius.
00:03:46
Speaker
And a couple of nights were extra cold.
00:03:49
Speaker
But it's the perfect weather for me.
00:03:53
Speaker
And the people, they're just nice, right?
00:03:57
Speaker
They're kind.
00:03:59
Speaker
They appreciate.
00:04:01
Speaker
They just love that you're a foreigner as well.
00:04:03
Speaker
How many places do I go?
00:04:05
Speaker
And I tell people.
00:04:06
Speaker
that I'm from Pakistan and the reaction is like, I love the people from Pakistan and your food and stuff like they know us.
00:04:14
Speaker
I think I've only ever felt that in Sri Lanka before.
00:04:18
Speaker
I mean, I've felt that in Pakistan and and I've and it was quite nice out here.
00:04:24
Speaker
Iran had a little bit of it, too, but but out here as well, it was really nice.
00:04:28
Speaker
I do think there's some history that goes back between the two countries where Pakistan helped them out.
00:04:34
Speaker
I don't know the history properly, but so I've heard.
00:04:40
Speaker
Regardless, that might not be the reason, but people apart from being nice to me about my nationality and background, they're just nice in general, really good people, just kind of have
00:04:53
Speaker
a nice attitude towards them and um and also just uh they're good looking people right like just you meet some people uh and you go yeah this is a lot of makeup or whatever like they know how to polish themselves up and great good for you and then you meet certain people and you're like they look uh they look nice in general and
00:05:19
Speaker
Maybe it's the attitude that makes them come across as nicer.
00:05:23
Speaker
And it's just been, like I said, it's just been really nice.
00:05:27
Speaker
I've had a good time.
00:05:29
Speaker
I haven't explored the country as much as I'd love to.
00:05:34
Speaker
Forget the country.
00:05:35
Speaker
I've already explored the city.
00:05:37
Speaker
And I'll take some time out over the next couple of days to do that.
00:05:41
Speaker
But it was...
00:05:43
Speaker
It has so many historical places as well, which all these things put together, you would go, Algeria should be a tourist hotspot.
00:05:53
Speaker
And instead, tourism is like 1% of their GDP.
00:06:03
Speaker
And there's a strong reason, if you don't know.
00:06:07
Speaker
Their visas are notoriously difficult to get.
00:06:10
Speaker
And it's almost like, when I went in,
00:06:13
Speaker
to get my visa, if I didn't have my dad's poll and the conference I was coming for, I wouldn't get the visa, I think, because the guys were just like, what?
00:06:23
Speaker
We don't want to give it to you.
00:06:25
Speaker
They just had that kind of attitude.
00:06:26
Speaker
So they were the complete opposite of all the Algerians I've met in the country.
00:06:32
Speaker
The visa guys were like, specifically, I think they've been handpicked as the meanest Algerians they could find.
00:06:38
Speaker
But I find that in all visa consulates, immigration laws.
00:06:42
Speaker
offices and whatnot.
00:06:43
Speaker
So, I mean, think about it.
00:06:45
Speaker
I went to Ireland, and they're the nicest people I know as well.
00:06:49
Speaker
And yet, one of my rudest experiences at the airport immigration was in Dublin.
00:06:54
Speaker
And there you go, yeah?
00:06:56
Speaker
So, they're notoriously hard, Algeria.
00:06:59
Speaker
I think the main reason that I keep being told is that there was a civil war in the 90s, and they had a lot of terrorism.
00:07:07
Speaker
And so, they had to get strict, and that kind of
00:07:10
Speaker
attitude has prevailed and so they've never looked at it and they've had their own oil and gas.
00:07:15
Speaker
Maybe they didn't need the money before.
00:07:18
Speaker
Generally a closed off country, very protective of its borders and different conflicts going on, blah, blah, blah.
00:07:26
Speaker
But three days before I got here, there was some good news.
00:07:29
Speaker
I just happened to read because I was interested in going, so I was looking up stuff on Algeria.
00:07:35
Speaker
And they announced that Algeria is going to open up their tourism.
00:07:39
Speaker
They're going to do some kind of visa on arrival things through tourist guides, tourist companies, sorry, travel agencies, but mostly for the south.
00:07:47
Speaker
And apparently the south is where the Sahara is, and that's where there's a lot of historical stuff to see.
00:07:53
Speaker
Although...
00:07:55
Speaker
There's stuff all over the country.
00:07:56
Speaker
This one person who was super enthusiastic about telling me about the country, actually two, three of them, they were really wonderful young people from Algeria.
00:08:07
Speaker
They got talking to me about different names and places, and they're like, you have to see this and that.
00:08:12
Speaker
And I was like, I'm going to have to write these down because I can't even remember your names, forget the places I need to go to.
00:08:18
Speaker
So I will take it down because there were different kinds of things.
00:08:21
Speaker
There was like the scenery, relaxed kind of stuff.
00:08:25
Speaker
There was the snow kind of area.
00:08:27
Speaker
And then there's the historical stuff, right?
00:08:29
Speaker
So quite a different bunch of things to see.
00:08:33
Speaker
I'm staying at the Sheraton Marriott campus.
00:08:36
Speaker
combo beach resort, beach and spa resort.
00:08:41
Speaker
And that is incredible.

Culinary Adventures in Algeria

00:08:43
Speaker
It's beautiful.
00:08:44
Speaker
And it's right next to the Mediterranean Sea.
00:08:48
Speaker
Again, staff has been amazing.
00:08:49
Speaker
The food's been great.
00:08:50
Speaker
I tried this local dish.
00:08:54
Speaker
Muharrabah.
00:08:55
Speaker
I'm going to get the exact name because I made a video of the person making it.
00:08:58
Speaker
It's like a flatbread with this mixture of tomato and some kind of chutney in there that they make with onions.
00:09:06
Speaker
And it has a little kick because it's slightly spicy.
00:09:09
Speaker
Just beautifully spicy.
00:09:12
Speaker
Not spicy.
00:09:13
Speaker
Just has that little kick.
00:09:14
Speaker
Just the perfect amount you could ask for.
00:09:17
Speaker
And it was so good.
00:09:18
Speaker
I ate like three of them.
00:09:20
Speaker
And I'm talking about they were big.
00:09:22
Speaker
So...
00:09:22
Speaker
If I can find that outside of Algeria, I will definitely be attacking that stuff.
00:09:27
Speaker
Hopefully, they'll be as good as anywhere else.
00:09:29
Speaker
But that was so good.
00:09:30
Speaker
If you ever come down to Algeria or go to an Algerian restaurant for some reason, get that shit.
00:09:37
Speaker
Or maybe some Algerian family invites you over and they make it at home.
00:09:40
Speaker
I don't know.
00:09:41
Speaker
Yeah.
00:09:42
Speaker
But the chef who was doing it at the restaurant, she was very particular about not making a video together.
00:09:48
Speaker
of her face, she let me make a video of the process, which was interesting.
00:09:54
Speaker
It wasn't like she was a conservative looking person or anything.
00:09:58
Speaker
Anyway, I got good food, man, and that was good.
00:10:00
Speaker
So, yeah, so apparently it's opening up.
00:10:03
Speaker
These young people have been talking to me about it.
00:10:05
Speaker
They told me a little bit of an interesting thing where the north in Algiers, the capital, and the north bit, they love coffee, and coffee is consumed in a humongous manner here.
00:10:15
Speaker
Why am I talking like Trump today?
00:10:17
Speaker
Humongous, huge, blah, blah, blah.
00:10:19
Speaker
And...
00:10:20
Speaker
So they were like, we love coffee in the north.
00:10:24
Speaker
It's a lot of coffee.
00:10:25
Speaker
And overall, in Algeria, coffee dominates.
00:10:27
Speaker
But the south are tea people, man.
00:10:30
Speaker
They're tea people.
00:10:30
Speaker
And they have a special tea.
00:10:32
Speaker
I'm assuming it's I've had it and it's very close to the Moroccan tea as well.
00:10:40
Speaker
A bit stronger, I think.
00:10:42
Speaker
But I've only had it from one place.
00:10:44
Speaker
So who knows?
00:10:45
Speaker
Maybe there's a bit of variety.
00:10:47
Speaker
And apparently that tea is becoming popular up in the north as well.
00:10:51
Speaker
And this group of youngsters, they were all pro-coffee.
00:10:57
Speaker
So they were like, yeah, it's making its end roads and it is good, but coffee it is.
00:11:02
Speaker
And they drink coffee like really strong.
00:11:04
Speaker
You don't find a lot of places here.
00:11:07
Speaker
Well, I haven't been out and about, but most of the places, when I said like black coffee and stuff, they keep giving me espressos.
00:11:13
Speaker
It's like they take their coffee so strong.
00:11:15
Speaker
That's the only way they drink it.
00:11:17
Speaker
And that's crazy because I like a mug.
00:11:20
Speaker
I like coffee, but I don't want to be jittery all the time, man.
00:11:27
Speaker
So they were saying, the bunch again, the group that I was talking to, they were saying how there's almost like a battle between coffee and tea drinkers over here.
00:11:38
Speaker
It's like a real... And apparently there's like a song made on it.
00:11:42
Speaker
It's on YouTube.
00:11:43
Speaker
I got to get the name and the clip.
00:11:45
Speaker
I really want to watch it.
00:11:46
Speaker
But it's this whole rap battle off, I guess, kind of thing.
00:11:49
Speaker
I don't know if it's an actual rap, but it's supposed to be a funny take on it.
00:11:54
Speaker
And it's just about...
00:11:56
Speaker
coffee and tea and them telling each other off or something like talking to each other it's uh it sounds hilarious at least in my head but the fact that they are so obsessed with that battle is very cute i guess and uh so that's there's some great things about algeria i've picked up already and it's nice to know they're going to open up like i said uh i would definitely uh you know come down here a family trip would be nice i don't
00:12:22
Speaker
think it's expensive.
00:12:25
Speaker
I've had my trip paid for.

Promoting Algeria as a Travel Destination

00:12:28
Speaker
But I haven't had to spend.
00:12:30
Speaker
You know what?
00:12:31
Speaker
The biggest expense I had was laundry in the hotel.
00:12:35
Speaker
And that's true anywhere in the world.
00:12:37
Speaker
And I was stupid enough to do it and also ask for it urgently for some stupid reason.
00:12:41
Speaker
So they add another charge to it.
00:12:43
Speaker
And anyway, this pool, this hotel has an indoor pool, gym and spa that is just really great.
00:12:53
Speaker
And yeah, man, so I'm having a ball here.
00:12:56
Speaker
And that's me selling Algeria to you.
00:12:59
Speaker
I think generally people should travel more, but this is a place you should come to.
00:13:03
Speaker
And it's got a nice little piece of history, ancient history as well.
00:13:07
Speaker
I think the Berbers and the French and God knows what else has happened here, man.
00:13:12
Speaker
So that's what's going on with my life right now, what I'm doing specifically.
00:13:17
Speaker
So I've been able to record the last couple of days I got here and the four days have just flown by because I literally have been sleeping four or five hours a night because of just work and stuff.
00:13:29
Speaker
Yeah, so it's been hectic, but at the same time,
00:13:34
Speaker
So just really happy.
00:13:36
Speaker
Just before I flew, the day before I flew to Algeria, I did a gig with Ismo.

Comedy and Performance with Finnish Comedian Ismo

00:13:41
Speaker
He's a Finland.
00:13:44
Speaker
He's a comic from Finland.
00:13:48
Speaker
Very popular.
00:13:49
Speaker
If you know him, if you're into comedy, you'll know him.
00:13:53
Speaker
He was performing in Dubai and I got to perform alongside with him.
00:13:57
Speaker
I opened for him and we had two shows on the same night.
00:14:00
Speaker
And it was a good experience, man, because I always like watching different comics, especially live and seeing how they craft their jokes and how the timing and everything.
00:14:09
Speaker
You just learn so much.
00:14:11
Speaker
And he was a really, really nice guy.
00:14:14
Speaker
Very down toward one of those guys, you know, just happy to talk to and
00:14:19
Speaker
I had a great time meeting him and hanging out with him.
00:14:23
Speaker
And also the producers, Ron and his team at Hollywood Pop-Up Productions where these guys were good.
00:14:29
Speaker
They're bringing a lot of comics out here in the Middle East.
00:14:33
Speaker
So do keep a lookout for them.
00:14:36
Speaker
I really enjoyed working with them as well.
00:14:39
Speaker
And top-notch people, man.
00:14:41
Speaker
So it's always nice to have good producers and a good comic to bounce off.
00:14:45
Speaker
And I feel a little guilty because...
00:14:49
Speaker
I messed up my set on the earlier show, mainly because I had a few things going on, and I was just tired, and I kind of went in, and it's true, I'm just going to admit it, I went in a little, I wouldn't say cocky, but just like, you know, just another thing, I'm just going to do it, and blah, blah, and it didn't land right,
00:15:10
Speaker
And I was having this out-of-body moment where I was just like half didn't care, half.
00:15:15
Speaker
And I walked out feeling a little bad because, you know, this audience has come.
00:15:20
Speaker
Well, they came for Ismo and Ismo gave them a show.
00:15:23
Speaker
But, you know, they paid money and they're there and they want a good experience.
00:15:27
Speaker
And I really told myself off in the time between the first show and the second one because I think I've always tried not disrespecting
00:15:39
Speaker
audiences especially forget the money they pay it's the time they've put in to come out and give it to you so I felt really bad afterwards man and in the second show I came out making a real effort and it was great they had the audience laughing and I felt better about myself going oh man
00:15:59
Speaker
Look, I'm not a complete tool.
00:16:03
Speaker
And that's great.
00:16:04
Speaker
When you get the audience laughing, there's nothing like it.
00:16:07
Speaker
So for anyone who's listening to this and did watch the first show or the earlier show, I apologize for my fault.
00:16:15
Speaker
15 minutes that you may not have enjoyed, I think.
00:16:20
Speaker
I'm humble enough to admit that was a mess up from my side.
00:16:25
Speaker
But yeah, it was nice to do this great show just before I flew off.
00:16:29
Speaker
You know, I was buzzing.
00:16:31
Speaker
Like I said, this year I've really been meaning to hit a lot of the stand-up
00:16:36
Speaker
and get a new show out.
00:16:39
Speaker
Just a lot of planning going on to the first month.
00:16:42
Speaker
And it makes you a little edgy, right?
00:16:44
Speaker
Because you want to start really getting into the things, executing stuff.
00:16:51
Speaker
And not in a dictator kind of way.
00:16:55
Speaker
You know what I mean?
00:16:56
Speaker
But just more like just starting to do the things.
00:17:02
Speaker
And that's the only frustration of having a little bit of...
00:17:06
Speaker
You know, it's just I don't want to be like just just planning, you know, and then I start going into this crazy mode where I get really apprehensive or no, just anxious.
00:17:15
Speaker
No, I don't know.
00:17:16
Speaker
What's the word?
00:17:18
Speaker
Excited, excited, just just impatient.
00:17:22
Speaker
And I start doing more and then I'm not planning stuff.
00:17:25
Speaker
And, you know.

VIP Travel Experience and Family Reflections

00:17:27
Speaker
I got to stop being extremes between the two things.
00:17:30
Speaker
It's crazy.
00:17:32
Speaker
Anyway, there are a few shows planned and I'm just going to learn how to breathe so that I consider just getting it done, you know, and just take it from there.
00:17:45
Speaker
So that's happening and I'm excited like in a few days when I do go back to Dubai, already like it's crazy.
00:17:52
Speaker
It's crazy because the day I'm landing, the next day I've got
00:17:56
Speaker
And then the day after I've got something.
00:17:59
Speaker
And while I'm getting impatient about doing stuff, I am doing stuff.
00:18:04
Speaker
But it's there's some bigger things I want to get done.
00:18:07
Speaker
And I think I'm just like winding myself up right now about stuff.
00:18:13
Speaker
Anywho, remember, relax, be in the moment.
00:18:15
Speaker
I took that, I forgot to add, I took this trip to hang out with my dad.
00:18:21
Speaker
And it's interesting, you know, I'm hanging around his work kind of thing, which means I'm traveling, riding around.
00:18:27
Speaker
And I got to admit, man, I could, I keep forgetting how cool my dad's work is because he gets like protocol for everywhere he goes.
00:18:35
Speaker
There's like a bike, the car, like I got, I got picked up at the airport.
00:18:39
Speaker
and they had those VIP cars with the siren on going nonstop right through the traffic.
00:18:46
Speaker
And normally you get a couple of police bikes in the front just leading the way and stuff as well.
00:18:52
Speaker
And I see how that is with my dad.
00:18:55
Speaker
And I think, man, you're going to retire soon.
00:18:58
Speaker
And I feel bad because I won't be able to give you this stuff.
00:19:02
Speaker
He's going to have to be a civilian again and not get these...
00:19:07
Speaker
kind of VIP treatments, man, because I can't afford it.
00:19:10
Speaker
And I feel bad, but I enjoyed it.
00:19:12
Speaker
I could get used to it.
00:19:14
Speaker
I would love for just be going to places with that kind of travel style going on.
00:19:20
Speaker
Anywho, enjoy it while it lasts, right?
00:19:23
Speaker
Like I said, I'm just really happy to spend time with my dad, man.
00:19:27
Speaker
And it just keeps, you know, it's just one of those things when you grow older and you become a parent yourself, you're just like, I got to...
00:19:36
Speaker
I got to spend more time with them because they're just great people and they did so much for me.
00:19:41
Speaker
I'm really proud of both my parents, you know, and it's great.
00:19:45
Speaker
Anyway, I am, you know what I did?
00:19:47
Speaker
I watched Nope on the way here on the flight and I did.
00:19:52
Speaker
Nope.
00:19:53
Speaker
Did I like it?
00:19:54
Speaker
Nope.
00:19:56
Speaker
I know it's a bit late on that, but yeah.
00:19:59
Speaker
I don't know what people were going on about.
00:20:01
Speaker
It's a real disappointment.
00:20:02
Speaker
Get Out was amazing.
00:20:05
Speaker
Us was good.
00:20:07
Speaker
It wasn't amazing.
00:20:08
Speaker
And then Nope was just, yeah, I didn't like it at all.
00:20:11
Speaker
Maybe it's one of those movies I should have watched on the TV screen or something or the cinema and not on a flight.
00:20:18
Speaker
But why don't they make good comedy films anymore, man?
00:20:22
Speaker
The other movie I watched online, and I rarely go back and watch movies, is...
00:20:27
Speaker
Crazy.
00:20:28
Speaker
Was that Steve Carell?
00:20:30
Speaker
Carell.
00:20:31
Speaker
Steve Carell.
00:20:31
Speaker
Steve Carell.
00:20:32
Speaker
Steve Carell.
00:20:33
Speaker
I forgot how to say his name now.
00:20:35
Speaker
Crazy Stupid Love.
00:20:37
Speaker
Something like that.
00:20:38
Speaker
With Ryan Gosling as well.
00:20:40
Speaker
Funny.
00:20:41
Speaker
Fun.
00:20:41
Speaker
Fun movies.
00:20:43
Speaker
Do they make those type of movies anymore?
00:20:47
Speaker
Maybe that's why he's doing serious roles now.
00:20:48
Speaker
All of them.
00:20:49
Speaker
I don't know.
00:20:50
Speaker
I'd love a good comedy anytime.
00:20:52
Speaker
I'm watching that.
00:20:53
Speaker
I just started Jack Ryan as well on Amazon.
00:20:56
Speaker
I love that series.
00:21:00
Speaker
Two seasons.
00:21:01
Speaker
Yes, two seasons down.
00:21:02
Speaker
If you haven't watched that show, you're in luck because you get to watch two seasons nonstop.
00:21:07
Speaker
I'm watching season three now.
00:21:09
Speaker
I've only got through two episodes.
00:21:12
Speaker
And it's already amazing.
00:21:14
Speaker
And yeah, I can't recommend that one enough.
00:21:17
Speaker
That's a really great show so far.
00:21:20
Speaker
Acting top notch.
00:21:21
Speaker
It's fast paced, but usually has a good storyline going

Entertainment Preferences During Travel

00:21:25
Speaker
on.
00:21:25
Speaker
It's based on it's a it's a book, right?
00:21:27
Speaker
So what's the guy's name?
00:21:29
Speaker
Tom Clancy.
00:21:30
Speaker
The writer, I'm so bad with names.
00:21:34
Speaker
I should look these things up.
00:21:36
Speaker
I should just write them down before I talk about them.
00:21:39
Speaker
But I don't because I'm lazy.
00:21:41
Speaker
I mean, I have my laptop in front of me.
00:21:43
Speaker
I could just Google this and tell you guys the answer.
00:21:47
Speaker
But what's the fun in that?
00:21:51
Speaker
I should use Google less now that they've fired so many people.
00:21:54
Speaker
That sucks, doesn't it?
00:21:55
Speaker
All those

Coping with Layoffs and Mental Health

00:21:56
Speaker
tech people.
00:21:56
Speaker
It just reminds me, man, of the time when the banking system fell down.
00:22:01
Speaker
I was in a bank.
00:22:02
Speaker
And it really upsets you, right?
00:22:04
Speaker
Seeing your colleagues leave.
00:22:06
Speaker
Even if you're left behind, there's that sadness of like you're in the ruins as well, right?
00:22:12
Speaker
And yeah.
00:22:15
Speaker
And then the next year I moved on, but I lost a lot in that in various ways, and I think in terms of my mental health and the effect it had on me.
00:22:29
Speaker
was pretty bad and no one was around to tell me how to cope with it and I didn't and then when you don't cope with something that huge then it comes out in different ways right you start acting out acting strange in different ways and I and I know that couple of two three years four years I I was so erratic with my behavior and I think you know when I look back at it I was like I wish I had addressed it more so I don't know if you're listening or you know someone who's been laid off these by these
00:22:59
Speaker
bastard companies excuse my language then uh tell them to take care of themselves and tell them to take care of their mental health as well it's important all right um yeah i want to leave you guys on that okay you uh take care of yourself as well always take care of these people the world's a hard place sometimes uh but take a holiday to a place that's hard to get to but will be fine
00:23:24

00:23:25
Speaker
Anyway, you guys have a good week ahead.
00:23:28
Speaker
I will see you guys in the next episode.
00:23:30
Speaker
Take care.
00:23:31
Speaker
Bye.
00:23:31
Speaker
Or as a dog would say, woof.
